My family and I shared several dishes. - Creamy sweet corn chowder - I thought this was delicious and so rich but not in unhealthy way. - Chef's green salad - light and flavorful with different textures. - Kobe BBQ bowl - so delicious, must order! - Pan fried tempeh curry - I really enjoyed the tempeh, but curry was a little strong for my taste buds. Absolutely love this little Tokyo dining spot in Huntington Beach. I love all things curry but unfortunately most Japanese restaurants are unhealthy and deep fry everything adding mSG to fake you into thinking it tastes good. Not here, all fresh made by the owners, and they will host you with open arms and with generous hospitality. I've been To Japan a couple of times and so I kind of know if a place is legit or not just by the atmosphere when walking in and this place is one of those. Simple in design but they pay attention to every detail from the beautiful artwork on the walls to the fresh bar of soap in the bathrooms. It's definitely a place to relax and enjoy a home cooked Japanese meal. The food is all Japanese traditional but surprisingly all vegan. That may be surprising to know when you see things like Kobe beef steak or a Teriyaki burger on the menu, but it's true. The menu is fairly extensive yet simple in how they prepare things here which is how I like it. For example they take popular fried foods like fries, chicken tenders, or a Katsudon type dish and bake them instead. Same great flavors but with your health in mind. Everything I've had here is delicious. All the salads are simple yet very flavorful. I've tried their angle hair salad and chefs green salad and they are simplest made and with super fresh greens. Their salad dressing is miso based and tangy tasting and not over sweet. The wealthy God'd pickles are great to try if you like those typical fermented veggies with your meal. Based it's daikon fermented in gluten free sweet soy sauce. I also recommend their soups including their ramen and even their simple miso soup with tofu and seaweed is great. For main courses I totally recommend the Kobe beef. I've had the their curry version with rice and it's super tender and savory with the curry sauce. The burger is also very tasty if you want a smaller meal. My girlfriend likes the curry with veggies with the mixed brown rice. Five grain rice is $1 up charge and definitely worth it. Also don't forget to ask for their magic sauce to liven up your dish if you like spice. They even have some for sale should you want to take some home. The only thing I will knock them on and it's only a half stars is when they get busy it can be quite a long wait here. They are only a two team operation here so you may need extreme patience. I always come here as my one experience for the evening and just enjoy the nice atmosphere. The lady is also very apologetic should you have waited a little longer than normal. The other thing is I do like a beer or sake with my Japanese meal and that's not possible here. So that the only other thing that I would wish for. But other than those minor points this place wins my heart for good old style Japanese food with nice arigato hospitality. Thank You back! read more

I was a faithful customer at Vegilicious until I moved to Northern CA 3 years ago. I was thrilled to learn that Akira and Ana sold their business to a company that intended to keep the same recipes and standard of excellence. Vegioasis did not disappoint. We ordered the infamous Kobe BBQ bowl and it was delicious as always. We also tried their new menu item... combination handrolls. Each roll had its distinct flavor and texture and I enjoyed them all. I was so grateful this was in the vicinity of where I was. I walked into what appeared to be a very quaint BoHo chic whimsical Japanese vegan restaurant. The owner came out and greeted us very Japanese like. There is an outside patio so we were able to sit and eat which was very nice. I ordered The most popular thing on the menu which was kind of like a teriyaki chicken bowl with brown rice and some vegetables. It was everything! My dad was not trying to eat anything vegan but Once it came out he had to have some. . I also got some chicken tenders that were more to the equivalent of the size of McDonald's chicken nuggets those were whatever. My wife (not vegan) had been wanting to try this place and after the place we were supposed to eat closed early for Christmas (Asian restaurants are usually open on American holidays) we found ourselves in need of a new restaurant! We called up Vegilicious and even though they had been closed for an hour, they took our order! They were doing a fixed menu/soft open due to Ana's injury, so we all had the Kobe bowl. It was probably the best vegan dish we have ever had. It was however very pricey. We will be back to try other items but if you have big eaters in your party, you may need to consider the price vs. value equation more carefully. FOOD: (Top 3) Kobe BBQ Beef Bowl (Recommend) * Deeeelicious with a pretty convincing presentation (it's not beef). The ingredients mixed well. The oil kept the ingredients moist and the soy sauce was gently covered with the onions/green onions, and tofu. The texture of tofu to beef is almost unnoticable, just mildly more chewy. Little pricey but a nice experience. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Excellent. I enjoy their accommodation and service. Definitely positive vibes. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. I adore this spot. This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I'm not even exaggerating one bit. I'm satisfied with everything about my visit. The customer service is the best customer service you'll probably ever get. Both of the owners are pure, sweet, caring, & attentive. They go above & beyond to make sure that you're happy with your experience. With the check, they also leave a survey that asks for your birthday so you can get a birthday present that month! My food was AMAZING. I ate the angel hair salad, meatless "chicken" tenders, & chocolate "cheesecake" with vegan tiramisu ice cream. All of it tasted fantastic. I also had a bite of my boyfriend's tofu curry & rice. Those tasted great too!! The restaurant itself is cute. The decorations are mostly handmade, & everything is really colorful. They were playing relaxing jazz music. They even have laminated papers that educate you on how Veganism is good for people & the planet. Even the bathroom smelled good! It gives off a good aura. My sister and I went this past weekend to grab the Kobe BBQ bowl. We live about 30min away so it's quite a drive but it was worth it! Ordered takeout of two Kobe bowls, spicy ramen, and corn soup. Location - the parking lot has a lot of spaces. It's by the Trader Joe's area nestled in with other small restaurants. Ordering - the place is run by a husband and wife team, it's very much a small business. I ordered with the lady and she was really sweet. The wait was quite long for prepping our order but they make things from scratch there and to-order with just the two of them so honestly not a big deal. Maybe I'll try to call ahead next time? Food - I really recommend the Kobe bbq bowl! It's so good and satisfying but doesn't feel heavy. The texture of the plant meat is really juicy and the rice they serve with it is soooo good. Paired with the onions and red pepper strings is a blast of flavor. I would go back JUST for this and buy a large size so I could have leftovers haha. The ramen was good too, worth a try although I wish it was spicier. The broth wasn't super heavy or oily like a lot of places, so I appreciated that! The corn soup is vegan alternative so keep that in mind comparing it to a creamier non-vegan version. It's also not overly sweet so it's pretty light. A cute little spot behind Trader Joe's. As soon as I walked in, I noticed a very calming ambiance about the restaurant. It wasn't crowded, but the wait for my food was very long, unfortunately. I did notice the small menu on the table advising the restaurant is operated just by a husband and wife so I felt bad and tried to be understandable. I would say they could use some help though because my bf and I waited for almost 2 hours.., that was tough since we were starving coming from being at the beach all day. I would suggest not to come here on an empty stomach since there will most likely be a wait. Other than that, the food was wonderful and delicious! Two out of the Three of us are Vegan, and the other not. We all love all the dishes, including the non-vegan. We had the corn chowder soup, and the Miso Soup. Best Miso I have ever tasted. Broth was amazing, and quality vegetables. My daughter had the curry, and my wife had a bowl. My salad was delicious. The food is made to order with care, so it is not fast food. But it is definitely healthy, and high quality ingredients. This is a healthy food place, and I encourage everyone to eat like this. The owners are also the chef, the host, and the waitress. Very nice and sweet service. Located in a mall near the trader joes. There is a very good Vegan Japanese restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles and sister restaurant in Culver City, that charges very high prices, and this restaurant is far superior quality and quantity of food.
