Cute store fronts with early 1900 architecture always makes it enjoyable. It's our regular stop for lunch on the trip. We were on our way to one of our usual restaurants, when we took a shortcut and came across this little gem! Inside and out it was just a delight! The hostess and servers were pleasant and engaging, but let's talk about the food. There were at least three items on the menu that I was struggling with choosing. My wife had the same problem. She ended up with a deconstructed hamburger bowl that was everything that you would want in cheeseburger but without the bun. I, on the other hand, opting for my unspoken new year resolution of eating healthier, went with a chicken sandwich. Even though the menu called for it to be deep fried, our assured me I could get it blackened. It was delicious. A nice little added bonus was that they make their own Datil pepper ketchup, which was served on the side with my chicken sandwich. As soon as I tasted it, I realized I would need some more for my french fries. Another server, who I now presume might be the owner, came by and asked how things were going. I mentioned how much I loved the ketchup. When I asked for a little more, she said "no problem, I've got you covered". She came back, with not only another side serving, but a small mason jar full that she said was "a gift" for us to take home, listing all the different things we could use it on. I can hardly wait!

We shared the fried green tomatoes with me actually not hating the homemade pimento cheese, (I usually hate it) and we shared the fried gouda Mac n cheese which was great! The restaurant was not busy, but she was usually nowhere to be found. The chips were REALLY stale. We asked for fresh chips, but they just came back with more stale chips. Our entrees arrived BEFORE our appetizers. Our server had given the wrong ceviche order to the kitchen. When they did bring out our apps, it seemed like the fish had not had enough time to "cook" in the acid. A lot of it was still really raw. We took it home and ate it later, and it was much better. We also ordered the Mexican street corn, which had the SMALLEST kernels of corn on it that I've ever seen or eaten. I was especially disappointed about that because I'd been craving it all day. For entrees, my boyfriend ordered the steak super burrito, and was reasonably happy. It is a MASSIVE burrito. I ordered the nacho cheese burrito. The first time we were served by Angel at the bar and she made rum runners on the rocks & my wife had the mango paradise. Both were very refreshing! So much so we had several each as we watched the Cubs on TV. Fly the W! Angel and the vibe at the bar is very chill & welcoming. Our second encounter was for dinner a couple of hours after our first encounter and even at 8:30PM there was still a wait. We actually ate outside at one of the booths where its first come first serve. This time we just had a couple of beers each along with our entrees. Service however.... Was questionable. When we got there it didn't seem busy and everyone seemed laid back but I guess according to our waitress it was busier than usual on a TUESDAY. I am not sure if she was new or she only works Tuesdays because originally it's slow by what she made it seem but... I hope that the next busy Tuesday she is more locked in and keeps up with everything. Overall despite the service, the restaurant was well maintained, great decor, and food was great. I recommend trying the blue crab dip.And my wife absolutely loved the oysters. Definitely a nice spot for lunch or dinner.
