It's rare these days to find a restaurant where "everyone knows your name." Venus is that place. They not only know your name, they know what you like to eat. What more could you ask for? The food is consistently good and we've been going there for years. Salads are fresh and plentiful. Moussaka is freshly made and comforting. Spinach casseroles are delicious and filling. Galactoborecko,, or however you spell that Greek custard dessert, is to die for. Whether you want your pita fried or plain, baked potatoes instead of fries! This is a good location for Greek food but they really sell a lot of other things. The wait staff is always good and you can always get a table. It's a good go to spot near Northport. Be sure to order the SAGANAKI, it takes a while for them to make it so you have to order it when you first sit down but trust me it's worth it! read more

I am Greek and have been going to this restaurant for years; with this in mind it saddens me to say I will never return. The decor is outdated and droll and is reminiscent of being in an interrogation room. The food is overpriced and the menu confusing, to the point where you will receive different and superfluous charges each time you order. Yippee. For example, three times in the last week I was given a different price for the same order: a Greek salad with gyro. Tonight, I was charged $50 for two salads with gyro. When I said there was a problem with my order and the price because they had inadvertently given me a double portion, they made me wait another twenty minutes instead of just giving me the extra. Then they gave me attitude as if it was my fault... When I returned home, the meat was cold and burnt, and they included the olives I specifically excluded and am highly allergic to. Also, stay away from Karen. She is miserable, inept, and daft, and knows nothing about customer service. After being a loyal customer for ten years she tries to tell me I want something for nothing? That's why I left the other girls (who are always friendly) a $10 tip after waiting before you were so blatantly RUDE due to your own mistake. Venus is a wonderful addition to a town filled with great restaurants. I usually go for the generous Greek salad with chicken. The salad dressing is so perfectly spiced. The fried pita bread sopping up the dressing is my idea of dessert. Try the rice pudding anyway. The staff is friendly and helpful if you are new to the Greek food experience. read more

Pretty good Greek food. We just moved here so we ordered gyros and what I thought would be lemon rice soup. The soup they served was similar to the soup back home but not as "lemony" as I am used to. And it had chicken which was different but added great flavor. I was also hoping they served dinner rolls with the soup, not so much. They gave us a kaiser roll and charged $1.95. This turned me off a little. But it's definitely the place we go to when we have a craving for gyros. read more

Pretty good Greek restaurant. Ate there while in northport. The pastichio (sp?) was good. I liked the dinner better than the lunch. The dinner gives you a good portion of pastichio with a veggie medley in a tomatoey sauce. The lunch version is a quarter of the dinner portion and some salad. Greek food is my weakness. Venus has the most consistently amazing food I've had in a long time. They really accomodate anything that you are looking for in your meal. I can sum this place up in 2 words: overpriced and mediocre. Atleast the lunch was. My sandwich was 90% bread with the thinnest sliced tomatoes and most disappointing piece of lettuce. A little less than a handful of fries, coleslaw that was not appealing, you have to pay for soft drink refills as well. TAKE YOUR CHANCES!!! No doubt when you get food poisoning you know where it came from and in this case it was Venus. I've been a customer for years and did love the food, but after a 7 hour bout and no acknowledgement from the skipper in the black hat....I certainly won't be back! I did call the next day to let them know that someone in the kitchen needs to be looked over a bit better and ensure they're handling food properly. I also let the person on the phone (not the owner or manager who weren't in) know that I wasn't looking for anything other then to be sure my message got passed along. She took my name and number, but the owner never called me back. Good neighborhood go-to place. We most often get the chicken gyro sandwich (yum) and the chicken egg lemon soup (double-yum). The greek salad is good, the dressing is good...but my major complaint is: the tomatoes are always BLAH. I hate leaving a bad review. I ordered moussaka which I LOVE. I will also say I eat pretty much anything and it wasn't even good. They forgot the sauce. And the mixed veggies it came with were gross. My wife and I visited Venus Greek restaurant for the first time today. Having been to many Greek restaurants, we knew exactly what we wanted. So we glanced at the menu to make sure the prices were in line with other greek restaurants. My wife ordered a Greek salad with some tahini and some Yogurt sauce instead of salad dressing. We also got an order of hummus and I ordered a chicken souvlaki sandwich without onions and tomatoes but with some cucumbers and peppers instead. The waitress was very nice and was eager to please. When we got the check, each item; salad, hummus and sandwich were priced quite higher than the listed price on the menu. A few dollars more for each item. So what gives??? We asked the waitress to explain. She told us that it says in the menu that there are no substitutions of any kind. We were charged for Tahini, yogurt sauce, and cukes and peppers. Overall, almost an extra 6 bucks. Not at any time did the waitress inform us that there would be extra charges! We eat fairly often at Skorpios in Huntington Village. At Skorpios, there is NEVER an extra charge for the above mentioned. I find it very clever and cunning of the Venus Greek Rest to add the extra charges to the main ordered items instead of itemizing what they are charging me for. REAL CHEESY AND LAME!!! That will be our first AND LAST visit to the Venus Greek Restaurant. Skorpios will get my money and will earn it honestly! read more

Went here with my family the other night. My parents are usually "diner" eaters, so they were a little hesitant about a new place. The food was very good! The hummus was excellent! I lived in Israel for a few years and the hummus at Venus was one of the best I've ever had. My father said the lemon chicken soup was also delish. Two people got fish and spinach, which they said was tasty, but a little greasy (as you might expect in this type of establishment). Decor is minimal. Agree with the comment about the chairs. Well the first 2 times I ate here things were very good. I LOVE spanakopita and theirs is (was) very very good. Last night we had a small take out order small salad - the feta was not fresh it was bordering spoiled. There was no pita in the bag as there usually is. The gyro meat was totally dried out. The spinach pie was a burnt over cooked old brick! It was THE WORST I have EVER had. I am monumentally disappointed. They had old left overs and gave them to the poor schmuck who could not see what they were getting. I am certain no one would be served that piece if they were in the restaurant- it would have been immediately sent back. We often eat in Venus and find it reliable--the spinach pie and pizza are family favorites. However, tonight we ordered in and my meal was inedible. Every piece of meat in my pork souvlaki was burnt black and tasted so bad I threw the whole thing away. It seems to me the kitchen took advantage of the fact that we ate the order at home rather than in the restaurant, where I'd certainly have sent the food back. A very disappointing experience. I called to complain and the order take apologized but did not offer to send a replacement. So beware those takeouts! read more

I live in the neighborhood. Big fan of Greek food. Eaten there 2 other times. Expensive and decor is extremely dated. I usually go into Commack, NY for better Greek. Working late yesterday and wanted something different. Was not feeding wife or kids, so I decided to pull into restaurant and order a simple Gyro sandwich to go. Walked in at 7:30 p.m. Restaurant was 1/2 full. Ordered my sandwich...nothing more. Girl who took my order said it would take 5-10 minutes. OK. Seemed like reasonable amount of time to wait. Nearly 30 minutes later I told her to cancel my order. She seemed surprised. Why? I do not know. I worked for 7 years in the food service industry back in the 90's. There is absolutely no reason why a simple sandwich should take 30 minutes to prepare. I don't care how busy you are. There is always time to adjust the order tags to squeeze in a very small order and send the customer away happy. Now, I remember why I drive 10 miles away to get my Greek food when I live less than a 1/4 mile away from Venus. I wont be going back even if all other Greek restaurants close. Here's the funniest part of the story. I saw the owner in the parking lot of Home Depot in Commack today....the day after. Strange coincidence. He was buying a hibiscus bush and some mulch. I recognized him immediately from his Greek style looking black cap. I was soooooo tempted to walk up to him and tell about my experience last night, but I had my little boy with me and did not want a confrontation with my kid standing next to me. I am IN LOVE with this diner! The chicken orzo soup is dynamite on these cold winter nights and they rock a mean chicken gyro! The wait staff is super attentive and so friendly. The prices are fabulous, my boyfriend and I went out for dinner the other night I got the soup and a chicken gyro (of course, yum) and he got a spinach pie and a lamb gyro and it came out to around $25! What a steal for appys and entrée on LI. I highly recommend this establishment to all my family and friends. read more
