They have great service here, honest, fast and very nice to work with in general. They have very reasonable prices for German car repairs. They don't gouge on the price for parts and from what it seems they don't really even markup the parts price. I'm always amazed at how affordable and inexpensive my repairs are including the parts. They have definitely saved my wallet a few times, especially with what other shops have quoted me on repairs. I've taken a couple of my VW's here and also refer them to my friends that own VW's. Went in today when I was referred to this shop by another local VW mechanic who could not help me. I own an 1984 Mk1 GTI Rabbit and had a hot start problem (car difficult to start after the engine has been running and is hot, for example, after fueling up at a service station or after briefly running into a store - sometimes, after 3 to 5 minutes with the engine off, it has difficulty starting up again or maintaining an even idle). The old K Jetronic CIS system can be tricky and many modern VW mechanics are not familiar with them. Many other seasoned but less courageous mechanics shy away from CIS. Not this owner. I read the negative reviews prior to arrival and can't explain their experiences - mine was very positive and outstanding. Perhaps if you know a little about cars, especially older ones, you are a bit more patient with their maintenance. Regardless, my interaction with Abdon the owner was refreshing. He took an immediate interest in helping and narrowed the problem while I waited - which I didn't expect. After a few choice adjustments, my car's symptoms improved remarkably. If you have an older water-cooled VW, this is a mechanic you should definitely consider. I was treated well and charged a reasonable price. While there, I met a few other locals who have been loyally going to Volksgolf, now Vera's, for decades. I suspect I've now become one of those loyal locals - I will go back to these guys in the future. Many thanks Abdon. Supplement: I recently went back to Abdon this March 2017 with another German car I own, a 2000 BMW M Coupe - he replaced a water pump, solved a clutch problem and repaired a power steering leak quickly, without drama and charged a more than fair price for the work. I'm a bit mystified by some of the earlier negative reviews - perhaps folks are expecting a hand-holding "dealer" experience here. This is a family-oriented shop that seems to have a loyal following in the immediate neighborhood. If you are looking for competent German mechanics and wish to avoid dealership pricing, this is a great spot. These guys can repair anything!! They did a great job on my EOS!! I'll be coming back for an oil change. Who needs the overpriced VW dealers when there are other auto body's that will service your car at better prices. The price is right here for repairs, oil changes, and lights coming on your consol. Also, when I asked them when I could come in, they said 30 minutes! Short wait time! And they take cars after 3 on Saturdays!!! All the other body/repair shops in the area close at 2 or earlier. Let's just say the prices here are so good and they'll stop at nothing to repair your dents, that I will be bringing them lunch next week! Yep! The worst mechanic experience EVER magnified by 1000. I am the world's biggest idiot for continuing to give these guys the benefit of the doubt but as of today - I am done. I have never taken my car here and gotten it back 100% fixed. Of course it was something completely different that was wrong each time so for a while I was thinking it was just dumb luck and the age of the car - coincidences happen. Things go wrong - surely they would not blatantly eff something up, would they?? They are affordable and close to my house and extremely apologetic every time it happens, but today I am completely convinced they purposely break something on my car so that I will bring it back. I am imagining them laughing over beers at the bar paid for by yours truly 10 times over. Save yourself some time and money and go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Convenience and affordability do not matter if you can't trust them to do the work right the first time. Or the second. Or third. A simple A/C repair turned into a new compressor. Belt changes turned into broken belts a week later and more engine repairs. An electrical problem has turned into an ignition systems issue - and on and on and on. From a resident living by Vera (a.k.a Volksgolf): This shop leaves customer cars sitting on our residential street, in front of our homes, all week long. They abuse the public street here, forcing resident to park 2 or 3 streets away and walk to our homes many nights. To add to the fun, they regularly floor the cars, just flying up and down our residential street... Asked them kindly to stop parking customer cars (5-10 at a time) on our street, they refused. read more

$80 for a 3" hose? My engine light came on, took it here to get the status. The code read "fuel running too lean" which means there's either a problem with one of the air sensors or a leak in a hose. I inspected it with the mechanic and immediately we found a hole in a 3" hose that was likely causing the problem. The hose was on top of everything and was making an audible hissing noise. It couldn't be easier to get to. They said to come back in 2 hours. I called 3 hours later because I still hadn't heard from them, and they told me to come down. I asked for an estimate and they said "oh I dunno, we did some engine work, come down and we'll tell you." Red flag. I go in and for replacing a 3" hose and for checking for leaks: $80. BS! He said it was because they looked under the car. So what? Unless they lifted the car with their arms, there's no way that costs $80. I get my oil changed for $30 and that includes leak inspection. I honestly could have replaced the part myself if I didn't live in LA and had any tools on me. Anyone could have. It's a 3 INCH HOSE for God's sake. It is my sincere hope that this review makes them lose business. Enjoy my $80, losers. You made short-term money, but will lose money in the long-run because people read these reviews, and I intend to keep mine online forever. read more

Rolled in with almost NO brakes, my Vanagon was hurting. I explained the problem and without even LOOKING at the van, I was told $500 to replace front brakes. I suggested we look... he walked over and glanced through the wheel at the front rotor told me "yes, definitely, $500 for new master cylinder, pads , rotors, etc." I got a HORRIBLE vibe. Had my car towed to another shop and repaired for less that $400. These guys really seem to be taking advantage of people. Do not bother. This is the worst kind of mechanic. read more

I own a 2001 Eurovan. I bought it used in late April of 2012 and after about 3k miles the transmission started acting up. I brought it here to Volksgolf because they're right by my apt. They replaced the transmission and for 6 months we went back and forth because it still never shifted properly, kept slipping out of gear, failed to down or up shift on hills. The long and short of it all. I had to replace the transmission again at another shop because Volksgolf just couldn't figure out how to fix it. Also two sensors they replaced were both bad and had to be replaced at the second shop as well. I feel they have done more damage to my van than they have done good. I would give them: 3 stars for brake work. 3 stars for an oil change. 4 stars for their bright cheery attitude and willingness to take my vehicle in right away. Note: Every time I got my vehicle back from them I had to return to get pieces they forgot to replace. The engine cover twice. The battery compartment cover three times. As for the plastic lug nut covers for the front wheels, I started with ten (5 per side) I now have only four. I took my vehicle in about 6 or 7 times to them. I'm done. read more

This place is awesome. My GTI was leaking coolant and every time I parked, I had to get out of the car, open the hood, unscrew the coolant tank to release the pressure before turning off the car or else coolant would stream out. Yeah it was a pain in the ass. After I was quoted $300 by the stealership and over 100 starting at Exclusive Volkswagen in Santa Monica, I decided to give this place a chance, expecting the same BS ("oh we gotta remove that, remove this, and probably flush this and flush that") Drove up to Volksgolf and talked to Abdul(I think he runs the place)...no bs, no guessing games, brought out a coolant pressure tester and immediately diagnosed it as the coolant flange and told me $100 to fix, no approximates, just a set concrete price. Since I had already bought the part online, he only charged me $60 for labor. At the end, they even filled up my coolant tank with G12 coolant and filled up my oil tank with a quart of oil free of charge! I love working on my car but living in a dinky apt. in west LA, I dont even have a garage to be a garage mechanic so sometimes I just gotta bend over and let the mechanics go to town on me which is never fun for my wallet. But since I am left no choice, this place is definitely the legit alternative. read more

I've been going to Volksgolf for years, mainly because they are very close to where I live and it's hard to find a decent VW repair shop. I've had some mixed experiences with them but in general they know the cars well and will fix them quickly. Not necessarily cheaply. My one recommendation would be to get an estimate before they do the work just to ensure you're aware of everything that they think will be required and how much it might cost..or you may be surprised now and then. That said, I still recommend Volksgolf. They'll fix your Vdub. read more

They tried to con us into getting a brake repair service that we did not need. Our brakes are squeaky so we took our car to Vera and asked for a quote. They said we needed new brake pads and rotors which would come out to $500. And they even suggested we were getting a deal. I decided to get a second opinion from a different mechanic shop since we rarely drive this vehicle and the brakes have been changed within a 3 year period. The shop we went to for a second opinion told us that our brakes were at 80% and did not need any repair whatsoever and sent us on our way. read more

I know us reviewers have our good days and bad days and so do the merchants. So I had a good day. I needed a front light bulb replaced in my S10. I have the manual and was gonna do it myself, but I was like not today! I also needed my brake master cylinder replaced on my Jetta. I roll up to the spot at like 9am praying that I could get my light installed as I knew it would be an easy task. I spoke with Abdon who I believe is the owner. As I ranted about my light he calmly continued to glue his broken ceramic structure. Not being rude but nodding...I told him I had the manual for the light bulb if he needed it and he smiled while gluing and waved his guy over to do the job....FREE....and he didn't need the manual. Took about 7-10 minutes. Again I was willing to pay and he was nah nah. I was on a roll and asked if he time to repair my Jetta...he said yes and I was back with my Jetta within 20 minutes. Initially he gave me a higher quote as he thought my Jetta was a newer one....I quickly assured him that my 1997 Jetta (soon to be a classic) was not new. He quoted me a figure that was comparable to my mechanic. Speaking of my mechanic in Van Nuys...he got upset and said the sky would fall when I told him that I was going to a mechanic a few blocks away... Anyway...I will go back to Abdon! 2004 VW Passat was having engine problems and stalling out on me. (dashboard EPC light would go on followed by Check Engine light). From my online research seemed like a stubborn fix...around $700 or so at the VW dealership. Found out about Volksgolf and took it there instead. Luis (owner?) diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and had the vehicle ready for me by the afternoon the same day. Best of all, the repair cost me less than half of what I was expecting to pay, plus Luis even gave me a further break on the price to boot. Oh, and he put some gas in my tank too! I highly recommend this place for quality and low price. They know what they're doing, they do it right the first time, and they charge fairly or less than they should. I have a 1971 VW Bus and a 2007 VW Beetle, and I've owned both of them for over 10 years. And I've been taking them both to Volksgolf exclusively for over 10 years. Following week my rear left signal light went off, stop by and they changed it in 5" with no charge !!!! I didn't asked for free, but he said it cost nothing. Wow !!! This is my first bad review for any place i've ever gone.. I've gone to this guy several times in the past.. Never paid much attention to what he was doing because i felt he was an honest man.. I have a toyota highlander that had squeaky brakes... now I do want say I also have a motorcycle and I do all the repairs and maintenance myself.. Usually squeaky brakes are due to dirt and dust that's been collected.. a simple cleaning solution to the rotors will clear that up.. But I still felt that I wanted him to look at it incase my brakes were low.. So I stopped by and he told me I need new rotors, new front and back brakes.. I went to oreilly's auto shop and purchased my brake pads. Let me go back for a moment.. I told him if he can shave my rotors instead of buying new ones and he said sure.. The price he gave me at first was $350 for everything.. I thought it was pretty steep. So i told him I'll bring the pads, how much for labor? He said $200... Now I had called him the previous day on the phone and he quoted me for labor .. $60 for front, $60 for back and $60 for shaving my rotors.. I did the math, cost is $180....So already i'm having second thoughts because his prices are all over the place.. But I figured maybe he's tired and just forgets.. So the day of my repair I show up with my own pads.. His mechanic begins the work.. as he works I start asking him question about things he's noticing with my car.. The mechanic told me my rotors were just fine.. No need for shaving, my front brakes are 50 % used and my back bakes still had 90% left.. So I told the mechanic to please hold a moment.. When I spoke to the owner "Abdon" he took a look and said no they are low and need to be changed.. After the work was done I looked at my old pads.. I was sooooooo upset.. my pads were still almost new.. so I told the owner " Abdon" and his response was , " you said your brakes squeak " I said that doesn't mean that i need new brakes.. He just smirked and walked away.. So I ended up paying him $120 for the labor of two brake pads.. I don't make much money these days and that was a big hole in my pocket.. $120 plus my brake pads of $40 a pair plus tax was just over $200 that I did not need to spend.. At one time his mechanic, while working on my car rudely told me to stop talking to him because he didn't have time to answer my question.. I know the real reason.. because the mechanic tells you what he see's witch is the truth. The owner doesn't want anyone to talk to his workers because then they will get caught in lies.. I really try NOT to leave a negative review, BUT I took my car into the shop because my blinkers, brake lights and hazards stopped working on my "68 bug. I was quoted $200 for parts and $210 for labor! What??? oh and he said I needed new brakes. The parts he described were for drum brakes. I have disk brakes (installed aftermarket) That is when my Red Flag Flashing WARNING light went off. I graciously thanked him for the estimate. I offered to pay him for a diagnostic fee and ran as quickly as I could. I looked up the parts from several places that still sell parts for my gently used classic. The max price anywhere was $45. The was marking them up over 300%. Long story, I went to Westdale Auto in Glendale. That honest mechanic did the repair for $120 Parts and Labor, confirmed I did NOT need brake shoes on my disc brakes and gave me a recommendation for a repair I may need in 3 or 4 months depending on how much I drive the car. Honest mechanics exist! just not at this shop. Save your pocketbook the shock. Keep on driving right past them. read more

Just saw this place right when I needed it - didn't want to wait for nearest dealer to be open or make an appointment for low tire pressure warning light. Had already had another auto shop check my tires but light was still on a day later.
