Owner(asian guy) is extremly rude and obnoxious and this is very least I can tell.This guy is exploiting that there is very few bike shops in that area of Bay Ridge. Scammer who try to rip you off and he been there for some time now.I was in this shop few times before and felt like I was overcharged for very minor repair which was not even done well,but I leave nearbuy. I came and asked him how much will be to assemble bike from my new parts.He told me "at least 100$ just for work".I was OK with the that. I brought my bike and all new parts I want to install next day by car. This guy didn't even looked carefully at sad "this parts don't match each other", "I am not a magician" and some other crap like that. I was very surprised,because I used advise of very good bike mechanic and all parts were selected well. I felt this as...le just wasted my time. Soon after that I seen new bike shop opened at 9124 4th ave. I came and asked this guy Juan if he can assemble my bike. He looked and told me "come back in 1 hr". When I came bike was ready and it cost me 55$ for labor. I had to spend another 40$ to add some parts, but its OK. I will highly recommend this new bike shop at least for now. Don't go to Verrazano Bicycle shop.Avoid this place. Don't pay for substandart service and help them to stay in business. read more

I recently bought a new bike and wanted a bike shop to check the bike to see if everything checks out. As I walked in an older man (owner?) asked can I help you. I said I'd like to get the bike looked at to see if everything is ok. He spent about 15 seconds looking at my bike and said it looks good. He felt he was done with me and walked away as I said I have another question. He heard me because he turned around and looked at me but kept walking anyway. I have no idea why he was so rude. I was about to leave when a younger man came up to me and asked if I needed help. He listened to my questions about issues I'm having with the bike and eased my mind a bit, but what I wanted was for the bike to be completely checked out. They just insisted everything is fine and simply didn't want to take the time to see if the bike was put together correctly with the proper torque and if the brake system is properly set. They look to me like they were either written by competitors trying to soil the business name or they were written by people with bad attitudes. Any, I have known these guys for many years and just visited them for the first time in a very log time. I am a long time shopper at Verrazano bike shop. I first went there when i purchased a bike elsewhere and needed service on my bike. Thomas and his staff treated me as their own customer and made me feel welcome. I have been going back for the last 10 years. They always treat me with respect and listen to what I have to say. Thomas never offers more than i need. I never feel like I have been sold at this bike shop. He offers his advice when asked and will also listen to the needs of the bike shopper as well. Its better to spend a couple of $ more and visit your LBS than shop online and then have no where to go for follow up service. I like that human interaction that a LBS offers. Goto Verrazano bicycle. Buyers beware they are scam artists. I bought a bike for $3000 and after a few weeks there was a creaking noise when I was riding . I took it back and the guy tried to tell me that the pedals were broken because I was putting my foot on the edge of the pedal. He told me it wasn't under the warranty and said I needed new pedals and would need to buy new ones for $80 I left and got it fixed at Bay Ridge bike world. All it needed was some grease on the crank. I will never set foot in this store again. read more

I purchased all the bike's for my whole family, wife and 3 kids bikes! The kids test drove a couple around the block to see which one they really liked. (can't do that a big box sporting goods store) thats why I like going here, plus they have a nice selection to chose from. I even bought the baby a Trek Tri-cycle, sweet! I recommend adding an odometer to your bike, is shows how many miles you ride and how fast you are going. They will install it for free with the purchase. lots of fun add on's!! How about this, i just dropped them off a 4 person "Surry" bike and they are adding an electric assist to the rear wheel, to make it easier to peddle. Thanks again!! read more

I purchased a Trek Fuel EX 7 a few weeks ago and I must say I couldn't be happier !! The staff was incredible and very very knowledgeable and they helped me choose the right bike for me. Rude & overpriced!! Buyer beware!! After not liking any fenders in a catalog, I returned with my own fenders I bought online. I asked how much to install these fenders, & they quoted me a price double what my LBS charge. I didn't mind, b/c I wanted it done immediately, & I was away from my neighborhood. But, after taking the fenders out of the packaging with an attitude, the bike mechanic blatantly stated, "we can't compete with online prices & these fenders won't fit" When I asked what fenders should I get, he said in a rude tone, "I'm not telling you. You're not going to use my expertise & buy it cheaper else where. I told you what fenders you need for your bike, but you bought your fenders else where. We don't make any money when you buy your stuff else where & then come to us for the service." Fact Check: 1. My LBS was able to HAPPILY retrofit it, no problem, at half the price he quoted. 2. When you provide services, that is 100% profit, b/c your not paying for product. 3. You can't force customers to buy stuff at your over priced store if they don't like what you have. So much for that bike mechanic's "expertise." Extremely arrogant, rude & unprofessional. As a whole, the entire staff there is cold & unwelcoming. BOTTOM LINE: Don't waste your time or money, go else where. I really wanted to like this place, but if you read the most recent comments on this page, you'll understand why no one should give this place a 2nd look & walk right on by to bay ridge bicycle shop, where they are more welcoming, helpful & professional. read more

I visited this store yesterday and purchased a bike. The employees were very kind and knowledgeable. They let me try out the bikes before I bought one, and even threw in the kickstand for free. I'm not a regular customer, it was my first time visiting this store. The bike has no defects, and is fully functional. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to buy a bike. Complete scam!!! We took our 8 year olds Bike here for a missing part. They were supposed to order the part and fix it they kept the bike in the store. When we returned to pick up our sons bike it was missing. The owner said he didn't know where it was and that it was a inexpensive bike anyway. He didn't care at all that we brought our kids bike there and it was stolen or he sold or from his store. Our child was crying bc he didn't understand how we roll his bike there and a few days later was missing ??? The guy offered us to buy another bike from him for 250$ instead of 500$ he usually gets for the bike... Is he for real??? I have done some small repairs there in the past and have always received a good service, however today i picked up a brand new bike, the bike was custom ordered for me as it was limited edition model, when i came in to pick it up, the bike was fully assembled and ready to go, i noticed it didn't have a kick stand or a water bottle holder, so i requested for them to be installed, to my surprise Tomas the owner of the store, did not even attempt to charge me for the items, i was expecting to shell out an additional 20 or 30 bucks otherwise. Very expensive bike store for purchases and repairs. Rather walk with my flat tire than go there. Went to fix a flat, they put a new tube for 18.50, a month later got flat in the same tire and changed it elsewhere for 11.00. Plus the tube that they had installed was a cheap one. read more

They were really nice ... i took one out to ride around the block and went home to think on it for a couple of days .. made my choice and called it in .. picked it up that day - it was ready for me .. forgot to add a kickstand - they added it in about 3 minutes; bought a lock for it and it, too, was installed in another minute and a half; I'm a happy customer read more

I have brought my bike in here twice for a tune-up and once for a repair-type question. My first clean-up/tune-up required a few things to be replaced, which made sense because (embarrassingly) it was the first tune-up/cleaning I had w/ the bike, which I had bought at least 10 years before. The prices were fair. Second time I brought it in last April (which was maybe 2 years after the first tune/clean), it only needed the tune-up and cleaning. The cost was comparable or lower than other bike shops, and like the first time, it ran like new! Last time I was in the shop I thought I needed a rim replaced. I didn't, and the owner showed me my problem was not with the rim. I was happy because it saved me a lot of money. After reading some of the negative reviews here, you would have thought the shop would have taken advantage of me and tried to get me to replace the rim (which I told them I thought I needed to do). Luckily, it was something else- and they only charged me for parts (no hidden service charge even though they put the tube and tire back on my rim. I mention this only because the negative reviews seem a bit unfair. I have no horse in this race - don't know anyone in the shop, etc. I just hate to see a shop unfairly labeled. I can't speak for buying a bike here, but I will be returning for repairs and an annual cleaning and tune up. read more

This is a thinking man's bike shop. There is no hard hitting sales pitch. The owner, Tom? (it's been over a month since I purchased my bike) seems genuinely interested in selling you the best bike for you. Usually, when I enter a bike shop and mention a brand that is not sold in that particular shop, the salesmen will badmouth the brand. Tom did not do that. He will simply show what he has........and give you time to think about it. He understands bikes on a whole different level.....Definitely attentive and fair. Understands things on a different level than most other bike sellers...from the gears to the colors..he knows his stuff...... Bottom line...I felt he was honest and I plan on using him exclusively... Criticism? I do believe this store will do better with an educated consumer. I imagine if someone just wants a fast, quick bike at a great price and is not necessarily interested in the specifics/quality, etc.....this might not be the place... read more
