It's never a good thing when you have to take one of your fur babies to a vet ER. Unfortunately my puppy ate a grape & I went into full panic mode. This place was the closest to my house, so I rushed here. From the front desk to triage to when the doctor finally spoke to me, everyone made me feel a little more calm. This is an emergency clinic, so they will go by which patient is more of an emergency & if your case isn't, then you may have to wait. They saw Paddy & did treatment right away. Induced vomiting, blood work, & fluids. We were here for only a few hours due to waiting for blood work results, but overall a good experience. The techs were all so great with my baby. Definitely recommend this place.

Early this evening, we found a squirrel nest that had fallen from our palm tree in our backyard. We found two babies that also fell with the nest. One baby didn't make it. The other was still alive. The mom was not around, and I wanted to do what I could to save this baby. I was able to grab it and take it inside. I wrapped it in a kitchen towel and got our electric heating pad to help keep it warm. I called the Peninsula Humane Society, but they were closed. They do partner with the Veterinary Emergency Group in San Jose, which is open 24 hours. I called them and explained that I had a baby squirrel that fell from our palm. They said I could bring in the baby squirrel, and they will care for it until they are able to transport it to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in the South Bay. I got the baby ready for transport. Since the hospital is about 30 minutes away, I had to find a way to keep it warm. The animal hospital recommended using a sock filled with rice and then microwaving it until it's warm. I followed their instructions, and it worked perfectly. I placed the warm rice-filled sock in a small box, put a small towel over it, and then placed the towel-wrapped baby on top of that. My husband drove us to the hospital. When we got there, I explained the situation to the staff. They had me fill out a form for my information and how I found this baby animal. They were very helpful and said they will take good care of the baby. I was so relieved that we were able to bring the baby squirrel here, where it will get the proper care it needs.

For the sake of your pet... please take them elsewhere. We usually go to SAGE but VEG was closer. & I never want to "talk ill" of a bet clinic.l However, I've never in all my years working for veterinarians, and even as a client of pets who've seen many clinics in their life as they are over 14 years old-- I've never seen the extreme disregard for professionalism and quality of care as I witnessed when I brought my dog in. I'll start by saying, I was not the only client who saw this. I witnessed an owner trying to advocate for his dog who unfortunately passed not shortly after. RIP sweet pup! It was a busy night but I called ahead. I explained my dogs symptoms, SLUDGE symptoms. Once we arrived (6:00-6:30pm) we sat in the middle of the flow until passed midnight.. as my dog declined in their care. She was passing before my eyes. I wish I was told they were busy, I wish I would have known what I know now. At this point all we knew was that she ingested something. It was either 1. mushrooms or 2. Pesticides from the gardener. But my poor dog sat on their floor.. vomitting, unable to walk or lift her head out of her own drool or vomit.. started spewing bloody diarrhea. While the doctor keeps telling me we have to identify this mushroom. "I can't treat her if I don't know what for" were her exact words. I worked with poison control for a few hours and FINALLY identified it. This is somewhere around 10:00-11:00pm. After no immediate action for her treatment, I questioned the doctor if I needed to take her elsewhere because she was dying. It was heartbreaking to see her that way.. the smell was something I may never forget. She said they were finally starting treatment. We went back and forth because she was explaining liver enzymes which is yes very educational but per herself and poison control- her liver was not the concern. Her heart was. So with that information I wanted the clear picture of her treatment since we've waited hours for her to only worsen and I became more frustrated / direct with my questions. She explained that the treatment remains the same. So EKG, fluids, and monitoring with anti nausea meds.. So I was confused and confirmed with the doctor that identifying the mushroom did not change the treatment? She confirmed thats correct. However, poison control recommended a specific medication (that was added to the treatment but never administered) that would counter act the mushroom itself.. Atropine was what she needed. I finally was given the estimate as she advised it would be texted to me and I approved it immediately. I was not informed a following message for the payment would be sent. I actually overheard an employee talking to another employee "Bella's owners haven't paid". Which baffled me because i was ready to spend whatever cost to get my baby taken care of. I was just busy holding her out up so she didn't choke on her own drool or vomit.. and using towel after towel to clean her and the surrounding area up. :( Instead of just advising me that payment was needed, I overheard it from an employee talking among themselves. We immediately got on to pay of course but simple communication could have helped. Though, this did not impact the quality of treatment or the urgency like you would think. My partner put on her EKG and I had to ask for the charcoal to administer myself. They said she needed to be more alert.. but no efforts were being made to try to stabilize her more.. attaching why photos I did take which wasn't many. After staying with my dog the entire night and little improvement from the fluids. She was now drinking again and interested in food at around 6am. Right before discharge, I let them know that she was still dripping bloody diarrhea (because she lost control of her bowels hours ago). They said "that's fine and normal." Not even an hour after discharge she started showing all the same signs. We took her to SAGE where they were concerned with her current state. Started to not be coherent again and losing control of her bowels again. So we admitted her right then and there. It was hard because we just spent so much money at VEG for us to do the same thing with another clinic. I'm glad I did though because she received fluids, ekg again; but also finally got administered Atropine. I was told more than once that "she is an old dog" throughout our time there.. Regardless of age, I brought her there with trust that they would help. Always always advocate for your pet and honestly, if you can, take your pet elsewhere. Anywhere else. (Some of the techs were kind but unfortunately kindness was not enough during this situation but I do appreciate their attempt).

I had no expectations when I was referred to VEG by my regular vet during an urgent visit today because all of our emergency vet visits in the South Bay had been terrible. The moment I stepped in, I immediately knew it was different. My cat had an accident on the way there so I went in first to ask for some gloves as I am used to him throwing up in the carrier and had all the cleaning supplies. The receptionist, Marisa, offered to help clean up & throw away the trash and even gave me a towel. I said no because I thought they were going to charge me cleaning fees like all the other vets do, and they didn't. Once we went in, we were welcome into the open area, which I really liked. I can see what everyone was doing and how the staff treated each other. They were joking around and helping each other out; it really showed me that they actually liked working there, and that makes a big difference in the veterinary industry. It was Dr. Lin who came to understand the situation and let me know there might be a little wait. Marisa then took my information while the vet tech, Ryan, assessed my cat. He was sweet with my cat. The whole process was calm and kind, and I was even offered beverage while we waited. Then Dr. Wickham came to be our assigned doctor. She sat on the floor and patiently let me walk through the whole situation. She prepared a room for us so my cat could try to use the litter box. The only thing I would say is the room wasn't the cleanest and had stains & hair on the couch and the counter, but I could only imagine how chaotic it gets and my positive experience there was enough to make up for it. Not too long after, Dr. Wickham performed ultrasound and walked me through potential solutions. She was attentive to the medical records I provided, and the important thing was she did NOT push me to get unnecessary work done. She was honest and transparent on what we should do as she prepared the estimate. She first suggested a couple things but after some thoughts, she even told us to not do it yet. I hate it when veterinarians suggest 100 things that are obviously unnecessary and can't tell me why I need it. Lastly, I am surprised to see they included the ultrasound in the visit flat rate and not as a separate item. They also extracted a urine sample from my cat and did charge me all the annoying disposable fees etc. It's always stressful when you bring your pets to emergency, but VEG truly made me feel like we were welcome and were safe to be treated. I will 100% recommend this place to everyone I know who has a pet.

Today, I lost my dearest honey boy, fancy pants, BoyBoy due to congestive heart failure. The entire staff at VEG was very caring, supportive and understanding. Dr. Cook did everything she could to alleviate my BoyBoy's pain and suffering. She was so understanding and patient with me and helped him transition the best possible way from our world to the next realm - whatever it may be. Thank you Dr. Cook, Tessa and the nurses who were by my BoyBoy's side with me in his journey.

We came here in March for rapid breathing and the techs found out that our baby boy had HCM and drew fluid out of his lungs and pericardium, a condition common with Persians and maine coons, our Killua was both. They referred us to Apex Vet, a cardiology specialized clinic operated and opened by Dr. Block. We saw Dr. Block for two months afterwards and received amazing care, until our boy cut his tongue this Wednesday whilst rummaging through trash. Unfortunately the clopidogrel, the blood thinner that was administered alongside the stress proved to be very deadly. Thus he was rushed to the emergency which gave him anti nausea and pain controller. He was unable to swallow his torsemide and pimobedan which stopped his fluid build up from happening, and on Saturday at 3am, my siblings took him here, where he was given tests, and his condition was unsalvageable. They made a difficult decision to euthanize him and he fell asleep peacefully with the help of the vet. Thank you VEG, for helping with the cremation process, urn process, and euthanasia. It has been a painful day and a half to say the least, but we are incredibly grateful for your love and care.

Incredible staff and open all hours. They helped our guinea pig pass on. She passed before the euthanasia and they returned the cost of it. Professional, great customer service, and consoling thoughts. The memorium booklet is a nice touch in the waiting room.

Dear VEG Team, This was our second visit to VEG, and once again, we had an outstanding experience. My dog, Charlie, injured his paw, and Dr. Tiffany Lee has cared for him on both visits. She is amazing and along with the entire staff, has been incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate--I truly appreciate everything you do! I also want to give a special shoutout to Rob, the tech who assisted us. He was fantastic and so kind to Charlie, making the visit much less stressful for both of us. One thing I truly appreciate about VEG is the transparency and fairness in pricing. While emergency care can be costly depending on the situation, I have always felt that the charges were reasonable and necessary--no unnecessary tests or inflated costs. Unlike traditional vet practices, I love that VEG has an open floor plan, allowing us to stay with our pets the entire time rather than waiting anxiously while they're taken elsewhere. That level of trust and care makes a huge difference. If anyone is in need of emergency care for their pet, I highly recommend VEG over other options. Charlie was in the best hands, and I am so grateful for the care and attention he received. Thank you again for everything!

Editing after their response back to me to say this: This dog was clearly not in immediate danger. He had been bitten by something and had welts on his skin. He needed a shot of Benadryl which they gave to him, AND they also gave him an ULTRASOUND on his gallbladder. Now, I have had 7 dogs and I have an excellent vet. So, you better believe I know that dog did not need fluids or an ultrasound after being bitten by something. You know how I know this? Because I'm not dumb. You are taking advantage of vulnerable people and if that is your practice, I doubt it will last. The only reason they're getting two stars is because they see your dog quickly, but here is what they will also do. You know how you go to get your oil changed or you go to get your car serviced and they make you think you need a bunch of extra services? That's what these folks do here. I sent someone there for a basic thing for her dog and they talked her into $600-$700 of services that her dog didn't need and one of those things they actually did BEFORE asking for her consent!! So, I'm really disappointed that these people run this kind of business. I told my friend not to go to SAGE simply because the wait would have been horrendous and it was late and she wanted her dog seen quickly for peace of mind and these folks (FOR WHATEVER REASON) have pretty good reviews, but if I had been there, I would have given that doctor several pieces of my mind and I'm telling my friend to demand that she get her money back for an ultrasound that was never agreed upon and that her dog didn't need. You guys suck. May your business close if you continue to have a lack of integrity. If you have any conscience at all, you should give my friend her money back for the ultrasound she never agreed to until after you did it, and for the fluids her dog didn't need. read more

VEG was amazing! As a pet parent, normally an emergency hospital would be my last option. My pup started squealing and panting excessively when his back was touched. He didn't have any pain or accidents prior so I was super nervous it could have been something serious. Unfortunately, my vet was closing for the day and I just came home from work. I didn't want to wait for the next day and remembered seeing this emergency hospital along the freeway and near my house. We carried my pup inside and the staff acted fast to open the door for us, get him on a table, and take our info as Dr. Kelly and her staff started to assess him. We felt very cared for the second we walked in. Dr. Kelly asked us questions, let us know possible reasons, and gave us options. Any pet parent knows vet bills/prices are not reasonable! We were let some time to discuss and initially opted for a blood test, pain meds, and lots of rest to see if he would get better in the next weeks. We loved how the staff was caring--gave us a fan so he wouldn't overheat, asked us if we wanted beverages while waiting, asked if we wanted a bed for him to lay on, and just gave us time to discuss overall. We didn't feel pressured to opt for everything recommended on our bill. Dr. Kelly was so kind, knowledgeable, and patient. We really appreciated her and all the staff! Thank you VEG :) read more

Updating our review since the facility owner personally reached out to us for clarification, and our first visit with a different doctor back in November actually went well. I know the challenges of working in an ER all too well, but I can only imagine what it must be like in the veterinary world. That being said, good assessment skills go a long way especially with a non-verbal patient population, and the subject of euthanasia is never something to be brought up nonchalantly. read more

I was skeptical about the 5/5 stars before coming here, in fact I almost didn't want to go because I was worried. BUT I stopped by unfortunately here after having my dog's tail get injured during a cross country flight. (note-- take that items may shifted warning seriously.) They were able to provide prompt, friendly and professional care! We had a short wait but it wasn't a worry since she was stable. The vets were knowledgeable, super attentive and very kind. Even though going to the emergency vet is never a fun situation, they made this a great and smooth experience. Price wise-- it was the best cost I've seen compare to the other two main emergency vets I've gone to in San Jose in the last. I was surprised at the cost. Overall, I highly recommend this place for emergencies. I like that it was open concept and I was able to be with my pup every step of the way. read more

Thank you to everyone at VEG who attended to my baby Snowball when he was feeling sick. Everyone who I interacted with was so warm and kind and I genuinely felt cared for. The techs were transparent and accommodating. I had the best experience here. I was offered something to drink while waiting and was checked on by staff periodically. I had to take my Tuki, my cockatiel for an emergency visit, but everything seemed to resolve by the time I got to the hospital, but I wanted him checked out regardless, to be safe. If you have a bird/exotic animal, you know how hard it is to find a vet, nonetheless a emergency vet, for them. I was seen right away and was able to know he was okay. With birds even the smallest thing can become an emergency quickly, so I was happy to be seen right away. Also, the open concept of being able to be with your animal (even overnight) if needed is awesome. I was with my pet throughout the whole process and can see everything which was just so comforting to me. I definitely recommended this place 100/10! (Not the greatest picture but that was my little guy in the oxygen chamber while we waited...) read more

This place is great on so many levels. My cat Lucy Brown wasn't well after losing a fight and getting nibbled on. Dr. Li and her staff were compassionate, efficient, and incredibly nice. I would recommend this vet to anyone who needs help quickly for all animals at any time day or night. I was referred to Veterinary Emergency Group by MedVet in Campbell, California. Veterinary Emergency Group answered my urgent call promptly and the team helped me late at night, in my most dire time of need, and their Veterinarian even spoke with me personally in order to provide me with some emergency assistance, over the phone, during an urgent/emergency situation that I was facing regarding my cat Guass' and his urgent urinary tract issues! I will forever be grateful to Veterinary Emergency Group for all that they did to help me and my Emotional Support Animal/cat Gauss! When you go to an emergency vet, a ton of expectations hit you. It's going to be expensive, the staff will be stressed, you'll get lost in the shuffle, and you'll constantly be wondering if you're gettin the best care. This is not the case at VEG. I was impressed. It was the weekend. Our dog got a very bad ear infection, which lead her to scratch at it to the point of bleeding. I called our normal vet, but they were booked out until the following Thursday. I researched anything I could on the web for remedies and they basically all said: "Don't F with it. Get a vet to make sure." So I took a chance and contacted VEG Sunday morning. They were great on the phone (although not super instructive). They send you an intake form and then you decide when to go in. Once there, about 3 or 4 other patients were there. Because I checked in online, they got me seated right away. Here's the first differentiator: You don't sit in the waiting room. You're in the middle of their triage center watching the doctors and staff helping everyone. And you're in a comfy couch where you're offered coffee and water. The place was clean and modern. The second differentiator: The staff are NOT stressed. They're busy, but they're not rude or curt. One of the techs insisted that my dog lay on a pad so they weren't uncomfortable on the ground. And when my dog, who's a total diva, wouldn't get on, she brought out an even fluffier pad. That worked. They were a bit understaffed because only one doctor was there, so they called in another one. Unheard of at other facilities. Once a doctor finally got to us, our dog was all taken care of. And while expensive, it was no more expensive than any other vet ER. But the quality of care is beyond anything I've experienced. The other thing that happens to owners in that space is that you see the humanity at work. Staff one moment are singing to the songs they're playing, another they're examining a hamster (which is the funniest thing you've ever seen), and in another have the unenviable job of putting an animal down. They do it with efficiency and kindness. Which honestly they don't have to. You could just as well never go back to them because you're one-and-done, so they really don't owe you loyalty. But they act like they want it anyway. And I never realized this, but vets are constantly on the computer writing notes. Your dumb dog gets a full writeup as if they were Brock Purdy getting a new elbow. This takes time, and if you were sitting in a waiting room, you'd never see it. You'd be completely blind to the mental effort. Great, trustworthy place. Truly. read more

This veterinary practice is outstanding! The practice operates on the principle of keeping pets and their owners together during the stressful emergency environment. Patients and families are met at the clicic entrance door and quickly triaged. Animal families are kept together in private rooms where there are comfortable small couches. Labwork can be drawn in the room. XRays and other procedures are done within the owner's viewing. Estimates for care are reasonable. The vets, techs, assistants and front office staff are friendly and skilled! I spent several hours with my diabetic cat at the clinic today and was exceptionally pleased with the care! These folks are the future of veterinary care! PS: A special "shout out" to Evan the Bird Whisperer! You need to become a Vet! read more

I brought my doggo Taz here twice. Once for some tests bc I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him and I got an ultrasound done. I found out he had cancer here. And they let me stay for everything. The ultrasound, the sedation and bc they're open floor, Taz was comfortable with me around while they did what they had to do. I ended up getting his steroids from his primary vet bc they suggested it'd be cheaper and it was. I unfortunately had to return about a month later to put my baby to sleep. And they were so gentle with him in his last moments. They strolled him in and my entire family was put into a room with him to say our goodbyes. We were given so much time alone with him before during and after. There was no rush or pressure to leave the room or building. And they were very compassionate. Thank you guys for being gentle with him. Even coming back for his ashes , they showed compassion. The bag and his urn was also beautiful. I'm very grateful i came across this Vet to help Taz in his last few months. read more

We unfortunately needed an emergency site to euthanize our 15 year old cat because our vet couldn't fit us in during the day. The staff were helpful on the phone and so professional, caring and understanding in person. You do not have to sit and wait in a waiting room, they took us back immediately. After a terrible experience someplace else, found this emergency facility. From the second we arrived with our sick cat they were attentive, professional, always updating us on the status of things. All the vet techs were very kind, and Dr. Molly was extremely thorough and explaining what was going on with our old kitty. Abigail was ready to cross the rainbow bridge and through this entire process, everyone was kind and caring. I will cherish the card and the personal touch of the crocheted heart we received with her fur clippings. I won't go anywhere else for my future emergency pet needs. read more

what did I tell you? response as expected. Be very careful. My precious Buddy Buttons is dead. I am 71. I will never have another Buddy Buttons. Maybe go on but never will I trust these money making facilities on any pets. you rushed that night. Before I was even at the table you were starting an IV. before I gave you any PERMISSION!!!!!!! For IV fluids too. knowing f damn well y placed catheter for killing my dog. you never even gave me a chance to stay Stop and let me take Buddy home. I came for pill help, that's it. Now your words mean nothing. I told you to stop writing. I told you comments were insincere, are you trying to console me? Not working. stop all contact now. This is the best emergency vet! I love how involved they keep us pet owners. The wait is a bit long but you see all the action they are not fooling you these vet techs/assistant are everywhere. Ever seen greys anatomy emergency room(lol)? It's exactly like that when they have a dog who is more critical all hands are on them. Like I said I was with my dog the whole time from xrays, then doing blood work in front of you, an ultrasound in front of you. You even get to stay the night with them if your dog needs an overnight stay. Of course the prices are high same as medvet, but it is an emergency room. They try to help out with installments. Do not hesitate to let VEG take care of your pets. From past experiences medvet is the worst... They saved my dog, took very well care of her as well taken care of me offering water, tea. Ps. I overheard they take in all animals that are not venomous, they mentions ferrets, snakes, rabbits, etc. read more

Great group of people working here, with wonderful bedside manner for both humans and pets. They seem to work quickly but have a positive upbeat vibe and lots of smiles and humor, which is helpful in emergency situations. Also they bring around water and soft baked cookies which is epic, as I've never seen that anywhere. It makes all the waiting one has to do at an ER more tolerable for sure. Very kind staff, doctors and nurses. This is definitely a new go to emergency vet although I don't hope to be back. read more

I brought in Meelo on Friday 11/29/2024- he was immediately taken care of and assessed by Evan and Dr. Lee. They stated that his temperature was low and needed to be placed in an incubator. Following that, Dr. Lee provided me with a treatment plan which included diagnostic testing. As I addressed my financial concerns- she did her best to provide me with alternative options to perform the testing elsewhere; however other clinics were closed so we continued with treatment there. It was then decided that Meelo needed to have a decompression in which Dr. Holly, Dr. Lee and Evan performed. It was so nice to be able to be there with Meelo every step of the way. The team was so kind and informative which is so comforting. Meelo was then in recovery for the next 12 hours in which Dr. Solomon and the night staff proceeded to watch him through the morning. I went back at night to see Meelo and everyone once again was super welcoming and updating me every step of the way. In the morning, I received a message that Meelo was ready to go home as he had been eating. He is now happily at home enjoying his treats. A huge thank you to Dr. Lee, Dr. Holly, Dr. Soloman, Evan, a wonderful young lady who discharged Meelo this morning and provided me with his medications, and the entire VEG front office and back office staff for all of their help in making Meelo's stay great. There are two things for sure about going to a Vet Emergency. 1. It is always scary dealing with an emergency (especially in dealing with an unknown). 2. It is expensive. Another big potential is non personal service, it generally can be a desensitized interaction of facts, lacking in bedside manner. This is NOT the case here. To start with they offer either a private room or an open floor plan where you are with your pet as they do their work. They dealt with us friendly and quickly and interacted with our girl Zoe, earning her trust and keeping her calm. They got into action doing vitals, taking blood and went over a plan. Then came sedation and X-rays, what is amazing is that we didn't just wait and wait. They went over the X-rays with us while examining Zoe and told us she has a torn ACL. As expected emergency visits are not cheap, but this was a bit less then expected and coupled with such excellent, prompt, friendly service it made it better. We left with meds and a plan. For many like us, our pets are family, our babies, they deserve care and respect and that is exactly what we got with Zoe today. My past reviews will show issues with other emergency visits (with other pets), this place is 5 star! Please, don't just take my word, their seems to be many 5 star reviews. read more

I called ahead to confirm this was a walk in urgent care. I took in my 11 year old cat who developed a respiratory infection and was struggling with breathing. My tech, Hailey, was terrific. She trusted my knowledge about my pet, which helped make the visit easier. My cat didn't scream or hiss at anyone for the first time, and I am incredibly thankful. Dr. Tiffany Lee let me move my pet around so she wouldn't get more upset. Her medications were filled onsite and we were out in an hour. It's never a fun feeling when you have to bring your pet into an emergency vet. After a long night of initially going to MedVet and Sage, we ended at VEG. My 2 year old cat, extremely healthy otherwise, got into a party streamer and it got wrapped around her stomach and intestine. We recently came from the other emergency vets in the area with insane quotes of 10k to 12k for surgery. This was completely out of our price range. I was scared, heartbroken, and anxious. We brought our cat in around 1am, it was relatively slow at the moment. The doctors and nurses and vet tech immediately triaged my cat. The doctor took the time to explain everything to me and helped us with the cost. This is the only vet service that I've seen that takes any form of credit. This was my last resort, a pet isn't just a pet, they are another family member. The entire staff at VEG understands that bond and wants to help. Once we had everything squared away, they took her back and prepped her for surgery. The doctor called me after she was done and gave me a full update. I couldn't believe how kind, caring, and compassionate everyone was. There was always a doctor ready and willing to talk to me on the phone while she was in recovery. I truly want to express my deepest gratitude for everyone at VEG. The whole team is exceptional and appreciate each person going above and beyond. I also want to mention how clean the entire hospital was. While I never wish anyone to go through an emergency with your pet, I cannot recommend VEG San Jose enough. read more

This review is for Dr. Holly G and the whole care team that was there on the evening of 07/26 to the early morning of 07/27. I brought in my bunny Nico for what I thought was GI stasis. The diagnosis turned out much worse (obstruction), and they had to decompress her tummy. Everything was so sudden and heartbreaking, but Dr. Holly kept us informed the whole time, and we were allowed to stay by Nico's side during the whole procedure. There were many close calls, but thanks to the team for their perseverance, patience, and compassion during the whole ordeal, she was able to get past it. I will never forget that overwhelming relief we felt on that last try to get out whatever was obstructing her tummy. They monitored her heart and her temp and everyone was just so kind and caring. By the time I left Nico for overnight monitoring, she was stable. Unfortunately, 6 hrs later I got the call that her heart had stopped, and they had been performing CPR, to no avail. They let us stay with her to say our final goodbyes as long as we wanted. She looked peaceful and almost asleep, wrapped up in a soft blanket, and I believe she left us knowing she was cared for even if she wasn't in the comfort of our home. For that I will forever be grateful. Today I picked her up and brought her home, and her urn was wrapped up beautifully along with her paw prints (I'm amazed how they also do this for bunnies) and a card with some of her fur. It's never easy to write this kind of review, but I just want to thank the team at VEG that attended to us. I really felt their care for my bunny up until her final moments, and I want other bunny parents to know that this is a safe place they can bring their little ones in case of emergencies, and get the utmost attention and care. Thank you again especially to Dr. Holly and her amazing team that night for doing their best and giving us those extra hours with our precious Nico. read more

We came here after an astounding ridiculous treatment plan with prices from archvet. I am so glad we did. I'll never go anywhere else for emergency services. Not just because of the prices but because of the people. Thank you so much to Dr Wickam Chloe Diana and Hailey. These ladies are amazing. We felt immediately comfortable and they seemed happy to help us. I absolutely 1000-% recommend this place for any emergency pet needs. You can tell it isn't about the money but about making sure our pet is ok and that we are too. We were told at archvet that she may need a drain for almost a $1000 and 6-8 sutures for $1800. But only two sutures and no drain. Our baby is resting comfortably around home and we didn't have to find the meds elsewhere. It was all in our price quote and instead of a 5200 bill it was less than 1200. I have no words to thank them. But thank you so much anyhow. read more

Recently this weekend I took my cat in for not eating, lethargy, and overall acting abnormal. I ended up taking him in twice due to the fact that the first time I went, I just treated his current symptoms without further analysis. The first thing that stood out to me about this vet was the super kind staff! I am so appreciative that they loved my baby the way I love him! I would have given 5 starts but wish for the xray they would have done more testing throughout his whole body because after going to a regular vet, they found something in his esophagus which wasn't analyzed in the xray at VEG. However, this emergency, VEG, did what they needed to do! They provided amazing service, handled my baby with care, took him in quick, made sure his safety came first, prescribed great antibiotics and medicine and provided great follow through. I definitely recommend this place! read more

6/5: Not many emergency's I would recommend (we have been to a lot of them with our dogs) but this place is exceptional! I wish I could give them more than 5 stars because the staff and Dr.Kelly are truly some of the best in the business. Our Experience: our chicken was in our yard limping which was obviously a bit abnormal and we picked her up to check her foot and came to quickly notice a large portion of her chest skin was ripped open. We immediately needed to find an after hours vet that would see her and potentially operate on her. After calling another emergency clinic and them not having a bird vet on staff until a week from today they referred us to VEG. From phone call to arrival they were nothing short of amazing. When I called one of the vet techs answered the phone and due to their open concept, the doctor was able to advise over the phone from overhearing the conversation (luckily this wasn't a life threatening case as she was stable). We arrived in with her and before we could get in to take a seat Dr.Kelly already had eyes on her looking at her checking her vitals and ensuring she truly was stable. We waited about 3 hr before we were truly seen as there were more emergency cases coming in in front of us which is how emergency goes. But the staff continued to offer us water and coffee ask if there was anything they could do. Just truly caring. After a through exam with Dr.Kelly (very knowledgeable) she provided us with an estimated time and cost of surgery to sew it up, we decided to have it stitched up and the chicken sedated. The suture job was stunning and our chicken is back running around less than 24 hr later. read more

There's a reason this place has a bunch of five stars reviews! Open 24/7, doctors and vet techs are super nice and helpful, you're greeted immediately and taken to an area where you and your pet can be triaged. They're walk in only, and in terms of emergency visits, the prices are fairly average compared to some other urgent pet care centers I've been to. On the phone, they initially cautioned me that their drs aren't rabbit specialists, but they turned out to be super knowledgeable and handled my rabbit so gently. I visited today for my leopard gecko Chowder and I could not have been more pleased with the care I received. I came in around saturday noon time and waited around an hour and a half but it's okay, I understand it's urgent care and a weekend. They were the only one able to see me on short notice when everyone else was either booked up completely or closed so I really appreciate their ease of hours and availability. The technicians and doctors alike had incredible bedside manners and were very patient with all of my questions. Big shoutout to the hard working team. My 4.5 yo Dutch bunny Oreo was lethargic & not eating, and after 3 tries of baby gas drops & Oxbow critical care to stimulate her GI tract, finally drove the 30 minutes from Fremont to San Jose to be treated at VEG by two very warm & patient vet technicians, friendly Dr. Wickham, an exotic animal specialist, who gave off good, positive vibes, and kind & knowledgeable Nurse Anya, who was very informative in explaining the procedure of giving Oreo subcutaneous fluids. From the clean waiting room to the open concept examining area to private rooms for our bunny, this is a well-maintained facility that clearly values their animal patients & their worried guardians! We also appreciated John at the front desk nicely asking if we were 60 or older in order to give us a senior discount! (Who doesn't like to save money?) My cat decided he was going to have some hematuria and urinary frequency over the course of a long weekend. I brought him into VEG after seeing some other reviews and, dang. This place is unlike any other veterinary clinic I've been to. My experience from the beginning: I entered the "sally port" entrance and the receptionist was a gentleman who greeted me at the second door and asked some basic questions. I wasn't able to really take in much of the lobby (not a complaint!) because he then quickly ushered me off to the triage nurse who took the first set of vitals and gathered additional information. However, it looked like they did offer some refreshments (coffee, etc.) in the lobby for guests. The back treatment area has a few stations, but it's very much an "open concept". Next to the exam tables are chairs for the humans. Every step of the way the vet technician explained everything she was doing and then reported to the DVM in my presence. Nothing was secret, everything was said and done in the open... they don't hide anything which is GREAT. This absolutely builds trust. The DVM who took care of my cat was Dr. Kelly Lin. She was great! She asked additional questions and further explained everything she was doing. She gave me her differential diagnosis and explained why she didn't think some would be the case. The next step was cool - she was able to forward me some reading material on the likely diagnosis directly to my phone. So very "digitally forward"! Then came the least exciting part - the estimate. I knew going into this clinic it would be far more costly than going to my kitty's regular doctor. But, Dr. Kelly gave me the option to drop a few things off the estimate to make it cheaper. She was not pushy at all. Like, at all. I asked for her honest recommendation and she gave it and we went with that. Paying for the bill: EASY. EASY. EASY. They will send you a link to make a payment. While doing this they let me hang out in the treatment area while they drew up his medications. Because my kitty was a bit nervous (what cat wouldn't be, right?) they took us to a private treatment room and let us hang out there. The absolute coolest part of this clinic is that they let you stay with your pet if you want. I was able to watch the exam, the x-ray, the ultrasound... all of it. The vet tech that primarily worked with us was Anya. She was so gentle and great with handling my cat. X-ray was ordered and I got to go watch him get that as well (albeit through a door, you know, radiation and all...). Then Dr. Kelly Lin came back and did an ultrasound-guided cystocentesis. And sure enough, she asked me to stand with her as she completed it and talked through the entire process. Not once did they ever take my kitty to some back office where I had no idea what was going on. I was there with him every step of the way. This is something I have never experienced at a vet before. Me and my kitty walked in, got amazing care (x-rays, medication, cystocentesis, pain medication IV) and walked out in ONE HOUR. While I know you likely can't expect this quick care every time I was extremely happy I wasn't there for multiple hours. Sure, it was the most expensive 1-hour of my kitty's life, but worth every penny. And hey, I even got a $60 refund on my invoice- haha. Anyway, my takeaway is that if you need emergency care for your pets and you're in the San Jose/Milpitas area then this really should be on the top of your list. I will only be recommending this emergency vet going forward. read more

After realizing that our neonatal kitty wasn't eating and was very stressed, we were terribly worried. I called about 15 vets and shelters till I finally found VEG. This place is absolutely amazing. The staff incredibly nice and comforting. They explained everything that they were doing, allowed us to watch the procedures, ask any and every question while answering so kindly. I replied asking for both the exam fee and availability. They responded by booking an appointment date and time, again without answering my question about pricing. I had to follow up a third time explaining that I needed to know the cost before confirming, and I was finally told the exam would be $60, which seemed reasonable. Since it was actually my brother's dog, I sent him to the appointment. After the visit, he was quoted $1,600-$2,000 for treatment, which was unfortunately out of his budget. While that happens and isn't necessarily the issue, I was disappointed to find out he had been charged $80 for the exam instead of the $60 I was originally told. When I reached out via text, they explained they "forgot" to apply the new client discount -- something that had never been mentioned to me beforehand. They offered either a refund or to apply the difference toward future services. Since we had already found another clinic that could do the same services for around $1,200, I asked for the $20 refund back to the card. After that, I never heard back. No confirmation of the refund, no apology for the overcharge, nothing. I understand veterinary care is expensive, and it's not their fault my brother is a broke college student. But basic customer service and communication go a long way. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we won't be returning or recommending this office.

The person at the front desk even called me back after she talked to a technician and had additional information for me! We ended up taking him in, as we just couldn't get things under control on our own and he was clearly in a lot of pain. A technician took him back to assess him quickly, got him cleaned up, located the source of the bleeding and cleaned his wounds. And of course he was an angel for her... (why can't he be like that for me?!?!). Once again, everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, and efficient. They never minimize what you're dealing with... if they thought it was silly reason to be there, they sure didn't make it seem that way to me. They took our concerns seriously and were very supportive, and took excellent care of our cat. The other thing I really appreciate with the team here is that they aren't trying to add on or charge for unnecessary services. Costs are explained clearly and feel very fair. I haven't once felt like they were taking advantage of the emergency nature of a situation. Again... really good people here.

When I picked Maui up, he urgently needed to go poo. After we got home (about a 45-minute drive), he drank almost an entire bowl of water. This made me question whether he was being given enough water or regular opportunities to relieve himself during the day. The same thing happened the second day. When I picked him up, he immediately drank water from a bowl they had outside immediately and had an extremely long pee--lasting over a minute--which again made me feel like he wasn't being let out frequently enough. On top of that, I noticed a very unpleasant smell coming from him in the car. When I checked, there were stains on his chin and belly that smelled far worse than urine. This raised concerns about cleanliness, either in the kennels or play areas (which were not included in the tour). I truly wanted this to be a good, budget-friendly option, but based on my experience, I would rather pay more elsewhere to ensure my dog is properly cared for. Saving money isn't worth compromising my pet's well-being.

Regarding my pup contracting Giardia--I already stated in my original review that I understand parasites are common and my puppy was probably more susceptible, so I wasn't placing blame on the facility. Just a warning that these things happen. However I would like to point out that my dog did not go anywhere else besides home and their facility (since theyre insinuating that it could've been contracted elsewhere). Additionally, the fact that Furrtropolis requires a negative fecal test every 6 months is a warning in itself that any dog could be carrying a parasite between that time, so this requirement isn't full proof. This is just the nature of daycares and boarding facilities, and it wasn't the sole reason I decided we wouldn't be returning. 2. Regarding kennel cough--again just spreading the warning of what my dog experienced coming back from the facility. I'm fully aware they don't have control over the health of every dog that enters. 3. Records show that we were in contact, because as I stated in my review, I would have to continously badger the staff in order to get any updates. Yes, responses were prompt but that wasn't the issue. It was getting updates to begin with, without me having to reach out on the 4th day of boarding to ask how things went. I've seen other boarding places have cameras or provide daily updates (on meals, training sessions, nap time, etc)--totally fine if this isn't one of those places and you're a dog parent that doesn't mind. It's just not for me. *I also want to clarify that I directly expressed to the staff multiple times of wanting more communication/updates and it not being met before I came to yelp* 4. This just further proves my point on the poor communication from this facility, the fact that I wasn't made aware my pup might have had a decrease in appetite or activity level is serious alarm bells. Both of those things would indicate to me that something is off since my dog normally has endless energy and a black hole for a stomach. At the very least, a simple update that my dog just finished his additional 1:1 training session/1:1 play session that I paid extra for would've been nice. My dog is the love of my life and I'm sure other pet parents feel the same. It's important for me to share my experiences to provide insight for others and so the business can improve for others.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this pet hospital. I brought my sick dog in after he had been experiencing diarrhea for four days. When we arrived, I was immediately told to go outside to get checked in before anyone even asked me about my dog's symptoms. We were then told to wait outside just in case he was contagious. The male receptionist was unpleasant and never followed up with me while we waited in the heat. After an hour and a half, I called to get a status update and see if we could get into a room. The same receptionist told me I still had to wait outside and that they couldn't get us in because there were only two techs available and they had other "appointments before me." This was frustrating because when I called the day before, I was told they don't take appointments and operate on a walk-in basis only. To make matters worse, my dog was never even seen by a tech. Despite waiting an hour and a half, there was no attempt to check his vitals or assess the level of urgency of his condition. I observed that every other person who came in with their pets was checked in inside, and I never saw the receptionist go outside once to check in other patients. I also didn't see any other patients waiting outside or in their cars. It's a complete disservice to make a customer and a sick dog wait outside in the heat, especially without any updates or care. The lack of empathy and compassion shown during this entire ordeal was extremely disappointing. As someone who works in customer service, it's hard for me to write this review because I didn't want to give an already stressful situation any more energy, but this just didn't sit right with me. I hope that management sees this review and takes steps to better train their staff on customer service skills. The lack of communication, care, and consistency, paired with the rude attitude, made an already stressful situation even worse. I will not be returning to this hospital. read more

She was in significant pain and too weak to be transported to the office without causing further distress. Despite my heartfelt plea for additional pain medication to ease her suffering in her final moments, my request was denied due to a strict adherence to office policies. I cannot say enough good things about VEG. My dog Luna was attacked out of nowhere while we were out on a walk, and it quickly became one of the scariest moments of my life. From the second we walked through the doors, the entire team treated Luna with urgency, compassion, and incredible professionalism. The veterinarians and technicians kept me informed every step of the way, answered all of my questions, and made sure Luna received the care she needed immediately. Their expertise, calm demeanor, and genuine love for animals gave me confidence during an extremely stressful situation. Because of the amazing team at VEG, Luna received life-saving care when she needed it most. I will never forget the kindness they showed both Luna and our family during such a difficult time. Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) did a great job helping my cat, Meghan, get through a veterinary emergency. I wish I would have kept her in their care instead of transferring her to another hospital facility.
