It's a frightening day when you have to bring your pup here but this is 100% the place to bring them to if you have to. From the moment you check in, they're attentive and they legitimately care. The doctors sat on the floor in front of me and my pup to understand the situation, they listen, they took their time and they took excellent care of my pup. Unfortunately we had to stay the night, they had a suite for me to sleep in next to my pup with a pull out chair so she wouldn't be alone. Expensive, yes, as you would expect from any emergency services but worth every penny for the way they took care of my baby. Nurses, doctors, front desk staff, they were all amazing, caring, understanding for the duration of our stay. Never pushed for any extra services, they're straight shooters which we appreciate very much. Five stars to every single person we encountered during our stay. We took our 12 week old puppy due to a fox tail being stuck in his mouth, everyone at VEG were incredibly helpful and took excellent care of our Lucas, Dr. Lemons and Ginna were both exceptional - not only were they super sweet, but they also made Lucas as comfortable as possible and put our minds at ease with their thoughtful attention to our concerns. Another emergency for Panzer! He had pain walking. Sunday night and it was VERY busy. However, they took us right back and he was examined by a wonderful Dr Rozalyn Donner. Her examination was thorough and she suspects a bruise or pinched nerve in his thoracic area. Most clinics would have required Xrays $$ and more tests, where she suggested meds and rest first. My bill at an ER has never been so inexpensive! Within an hour, we were leaving a VERY busy, but well staffed, ER! This is the ONLY emergency Vet I'll now take my dogs to. You can be with your pet the whole time! This fabulous "open in person" way of treating animals is by far the least stressful way of doing things. read more

Brought my cat in almost two weeks ago due to being unable to having a really bad balance issue even though he was fine in the morning, , which me and my wife noticed when we got home from work. We had brought our cat to VEG for a kidney crash and ear infection in the past, with good outcomes. This last time around was not as good. The first vet that saw our cat said he was having a neuro episode and should go somewhere else. Horrible advice looking back at it. If it was me at ER, I really hope the ER wouldn't tell me to go somewhere else if I was experiencing a neuro issue. The second vet was friendlier and trying to help but slow to provide service and tried to help by locating nearby hospitals with a neurologist but most did not have one available anytime soon or could guarantee our cat could be seen. Eventually, we started receiving service like blood pressure check, sedatives (because our cat was yowling and rolling), and oxygen chamber but had to wait much longer than necessary for those services. Ultimately, they diagnosed a possible middle ear infection to explain the imbalance issue and prescribed ear drops. They still suggested finding a neuro to make sure what happened though I would have appreciated a true list of available neurologists but I guess that's not as accessible as human doctors. We took our cat home and had him home the next day, for monitoring and administering ear drops as prescribed. His condition was not getting better, so we got in touch with UC Davis the next day, who made a tentative appointment at their pet hospital that morning and saw our cat right away, did an MRI, and diagnosed a stroke. VEG might be good at obvious emergencies or less serious issues, but the wait our cat had to endure while suffering instead of being stabilized right away was very stressful. 3 stars for nice support staff, clean facility, and friendly doctors that tried to help but were not equipped for this emergency. I probably would still consider VEG based on past experiences but I know now to advocate hard for my pet if I'm there and my pet needs help. read more

Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place. I wish I had a better experience but the staff is incredibly unprofessional. I came in to get my cat's eye checked out, and I experienced and witnessed many poor practices. To start, upon arrival I saw two employees wheel off an unconscious dog, accidentally hit a wall with the bed it was on, and then proceed to laugh about it. My cat needed to be sedated to get her eye checked on. We told the staff that my cat is very skittish so they put us in a separate room. They said we could get her procedures done in there (eye test and urine test) while she was sedated. After sedating her they had us carry her(as they seemed to not want to touch her) out of the room and into the open room with other pets. We were not expecting to have her procedure done out in the open as we mentioned previously, but they had already set up the table outside. This miscommunication on their part (the staff not communicating with each other that we had planned to do it in the room) caused my cat to jump out of sedation upon hearing the dogs bark and run back into the room. Part of her waking up out of her sedation could be because they didn't check if she was fully sedated, they looked at her for a split second(didn't touch her or come closer) and said she was ready. After she was startled out of sedation she was hissing and growling and they had to sedate her again. While doing her urination test they spoke negatively towards her because she was growling saying "calm down it's not a big deal." Now I realize that my cat doesn't speak English but I don't appreciate them downplaying her reaction as she had already been there for hours and doesn't usually go out. The entire time they were very cold to my cat and didn't want to touch her which was clear as they had us take her temperature, hold her down for sedation, move her while sedated and take her out of her carrier which are things I believe they should be trained and comfortable doing. Additionally, upon leaving, the front desk staff made a joke about wishing they could drink while on the job as there's a taco bell near by. These are all very unprofessional practices in my opinion and I will not be coming back. I hope others have had better experiences but I cannot say that I did. read more

You are able to be with your pet through the entire process. It is premium cost. But running an establishment of this caliber is costly in the Bay Area.I felt my dog got great care. I cannot recommend VEG enough. After a move, my cat stopped eating and ended up unable to keep food down. Unfortunately, since I work full time, it was about two weeks before I realized she was in trouble. After taking her to my local vet, I was told she needed an ultrasound to diagnose her and allow for treatment, but not a single vet in the area had the equipment or a specialist available to complete it. I was looking at having to drive all the way to Berkeley to get her treatment so she wouldn't die, as she already lost about 40% of her body weight and had become rather lethargic. Thankfully, I found VEG and they were able to see her immediately. This establishment and the entire team working there treated her and myself with so much care. The team here truly saved her life and I genuinely could not be more thankful for the superior level of treatment they provided my cat--especially since she's already a special needs senior animal who's extremely skittish and suffers from separation anxiety. They made sure to keep me updated every few hours on her treatment and how she was doing. They took special care to ensure she was as comfortable as possible, and I observed the same compassion for the other animals that were also being cared for. VEG is nothing short of exemplary, and I only wish they were the industry standard. It felt like they loved my pet as much as I did. Afterwards they provided me with all of the supplies and specialized food needed to be able to continue caring for my cat. They provided detailed instructions and even demonstrated what would be needed, also allowing my mom to be involved via video call. While I genuinely hope I never need their services again, I know I will purposely make the 45 minute journey to VEG should any of my pets need emergency veterinary care ever again. Turned out he had a tumor on his spleen and was bleeding into his abdomen. We of course said YES to the surgery! The VEG clinic is open concept - meaning you can watch everything! You can be with your pet every step of the way. You can spend the night with your pet. The surgery went very well and Rookie is home today resting! Fingers crossed for negative pathology findings. VEG went above and beyond to help care for my pet rat. After an unfortunate fall, he could hardly breath with excessive blood coming from his airways. Fearing the worst, I quickly started driving to the local emergency vet. Calling ahead, they wouldn't see him and pointed me towards a clinic in San Jose. After 6 more calls, VEG was suggested. I called ahead and explained the situation, VEG had vets waiting on my arrival. Being located in the mid peninsula, I didn't think my rat would make the 45 min drive but I was committed to not losing him that night. On arrival he was quickly attended to. I walked through the doors at 11:30 PM looking like a mini crime scene with blood everywhere and my nerves shot. Not knowing if he was going to make it with the amount of blood lost, the vets immediately sprung into action and placed him in an oxygen chamber until x-rays were taken. After reviewing the results, the vet was optimistic on my rats prognosis. He stayed in the oxygen chamber the remainder of the night. Despite a rough night, in the morning he was already looking much better. Everyone working that night was extremely nice and truly cared for my pets well being. The moment I walked in, there was a sense of relief with how helpful everyone was. The open floor plan was also comforting because you're witnessing vets in action and receive constant checks and updates. My rat became a little sensation with the staff that night after hearing he was 3 years old. Everyone was in disbelief with how good he looked for his age. Ironically enough, his third birthday was right around the time of this accident. Not the best way the celebrate but the gift of having more time with my pet means the world to me. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Nia Powell. She was super welcoming and very patient with my baby Lily. She understood that it was a really stressful time for both of us. I came in to VEG because my vet didn't have any available appts right away and I had suspected a UTI or something worse for my dog. Dr. Powell quickly explained the procedures she would do to detect the issue at hand. They were able to confirm it was in fact a UTI and I left relieved that there were no other issues to be worried about. She explained the home care instructions very clearly. By that night I had my discharge paperwork and everything I needed for my insurance claim and explanation of procedures that were done and why. Everyone at this location was super sweet and made me feel at ease. The place was clean and had the state of the art equipment. Once I had an update of my dogs diagnosis I was able to calm down and enjoy a coffee and cookie in the waiting area before being discharged :) I would definitely come here again! Amazing overnight crew on 8/28! Our girl Whiskey was foaming at the mouth and having breathing issues. The Dr and team was quick to action and very calm/informed. His kidneys were failing due to an unknown cause. I opted to have him cremated and returned to me but they do have options for your preference. His ashes are in the most beautiful box and surprised me with a clay mold of his paw print. This was the BEST emergency vet experience i have ever had. I cant say enough good things. Hopefully i wont need to go to an emergency vet any time soon, but if i do i will definitely be coming back here. I am fully convinced they saved my cat's life. He had an infected abscess from what looked like a bite. I wanted to take him in sooner but he hid somewhere to sleep for a few days and when i found him his wound had turned blue, he had an obvious migraine and could not walk straight. I usually go to a different emergency vet and wait 4 hours to be seen, but when i called my regular they said the wait would be at least 7 hours and recommended that i call around. Veterinary emergency group told me over the phone the wait was only an hour and a half which is unheard of. On the drive my cat peed himself and had the worst diarrhea in his carrier, but all the employees here were very kind and immediately helped me get him cleaned up as soon as i got there even before they had time to see him, which they seriously did not have to do as i would have been fine with just getting some paper towels so i could clean him myself. They also let me wait with him in the room, and when it came time to do his surgery they even offered to let me sit by the table and watch the whole thing and be with him. They did an amazing job making sure he was comfortable and not in any pain, the whole procedure was done extremely carefully and quickly. They also talked me through everything they did and even allowed me to pet him while they were sedating him. After the procedure they went above and beyond by offering to trim his nails for me and they bathed him before they gave me the anti sedation so I would have one less thing to worry about. They have me detailed instructions on how to care for him, and warned me that he was at risk for facial necrosis because his skin and turned blue around the infection. They also gave me a little gift bag me two full sized bags of pill pockets, at least 10 churu tube treats and a couple cans of tuna for him at no extra charge. They also gave me a carrier box for him because he barely fit in the carrier i had grabbed in a hurry so that he could be more comfortable and also fit with his cone. He is still healing but by the next day he was completely back to himself except WAY more clingy and affectionate than he already was before. (I think this is because he is grateful for the help they gave him and knows they saved his life) and his wound looks amazing and is back to a healthy color. He is also loving his little gifts. I took my dog here because he wasn't feeling good they instantly tried to charge over 2000 dollars wouldn't tell us what's wrong with our dog then we left after they said we could leave because the bill was ridiculous they told us our dog needed to be put down. Then they called the police and said we were mistreating and neglecting our dog. The next day he was totally fine and eating. They also said he would need surgery and it would cost 12000. Today is a sad day for me because I found a cat that was hit by a car. I LOVE animals and hate to see any animal suffering or injured. I was told by a friend (and the San Ramon police) to take the cat to SR VEG. I am so glad I did because this veterinary hospital is top notch. The woman I spoke to at the front desk was very nice, helpful & welcoming. This veterinary hospital has an open setting where I was allowed to be near this cat during the exam & treatment (instead of some hospitals where they do everything in a back room and you can't see what they are doing). Since this cat was not my cat, VEG did not make me responsible for the payment. I am very grateful for that since I am currently experiencing financial difficulty. They claim "helping people and their pets when they need it most" but his response tells me all I need to know about this place. This is a fantastic establishment. I took my two cats to see Dr. Ogg after they became ill. They were able to see me immediately on a Saturday morning. The hospital was well staffed and clean. Dr. Ogg and the other employees were professional but not stuffy, and made the stressful visit relaxing and positive. You can tell the staff are passionate about their field and the visit was informative and gave me some solitude. I did not get the other employees names but the two young ladies who administered fluids to one of my cats were friendly and made it look effortless. They saved my dog's life - both a matter of deep capabilities, and of caring approach. We came in at 3 AM and they saw us immediately. I quickly noticed that the facility was wide open, and they didn't take pets away from their peeps and scurry them off the a back room. There were several pet parents sitting with their fur babies as they received care. So I did the same - parked myself outside of the oxygen chamber while waiting to see if my baby could recover. I stayed for 3 days - no joke! Wanted to be sure that whenever my baby looked up, he saw his family was there with him. The facility was welcoming. The Vets and Techs offered continuous, thorough care, clearly explained what they were doing and hypothesizing about my dogs condition. I just wanted to thank the VEG team and our nurse Gina (also wanted to thank our doctor too but we forgot her name, sorry ). They have been nothing but caring, patient, and transparent. It sucks that finance is always going to affect our decisions but the fact that the doctor broke it down and gave us different estimations was appreciated. We unfortunately had to make a decision to ease Emma's passing as her condition was critical and the doctor didn't think she'd make it through the night... We were transferred to a quiet room where we given as much time as we needed to be her until about 10:04pm on 4/7/23 when she passed. We opted to take her body home, Gina answered most of our questions (the other done by our doctor), cleaned her up and returned her back to us in the provided container. We really wish we caught what was going on with Emma earlier, maybe she could've been with us for a couple more years... But we are glad we could be with her in her final moments. Our dog injured his eye and we noticed that he had an issue. Of course, it was at 10 pm. So the question became do we take him in now, or see what the next day brings. We took him in to VEG. What an amazing operation! We were seen almost immediately, the staff couldn't have been more emphatic or professional. I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to other pet owners. read more

Hands down, this was the BEST experience my fearful malti-poo, Rex, had at a vet's office. Rex was in pain from jumping off the bed and my regular vet couldn't see him for another week so they referred me to VEG. VEG was able to see Rex right away. Rex is a fearful maltipoo and nips/bites when he's scared. But the front desk staff reassured me that they could handle him with care. The entire VEG staff was AMAZING. They gave Rex positive energy and respected his space. Dr. Alex took his time to evaluate Rex and he came up with a treatment plan to get him out of pain - all while keeping my fur baby relaxed and safe. They all seem like they genuinely enjoy what they do and it shows in how they care for their patients. If I could give Dr. Alex and his staff 100 stars I would!! :) read more

So grateful to VEG SAN RAMON! First the set up is amazing. Our lil one was so comfortable. The open concept and being able to stay and help while they examined her with the exception of X-rays was amazing. Everyone from the moment we came in was so nice! We were seen right away both times we came in. Once in the afternoon when it was really busy and almost every table was filled with patients, and once in the late evening when we were the only ones there. Both times she was taken care of by the nicest doctors. They were very thorough each time. They don't do any major tests like X-rays without giving you a price which they text you. I thought I could wait until the next morning to see her primary for x-rays and the doctor said she was stable and could go to her appointment but let me know we can come back at any time if we see change. Which we did later that night she couldn't wait 8 more hours. We came right back. They took X-rays, bloodwork, discussed her radiology report, gave her meds made sure she was stable, gave us care instructions and we went home. I wasn't charged for the second visit later that evening! They counted it as one visit!! I just paid for blood work, x rays, and meds. This ER is so honest and truly cares about their patients and their families. Everything helps during these times and this made a huge difference. It's so great to know that there's such a great place to take my babies! And we can be with them the whole time. I love the San Ramon location it's a bit of a drive from us but worth it! I haven't been to their others but will most likely only go to this one. They were very compassionate and responsible with our lil one. And they were beyond supportive of us as well. I highly recommend this place! I have miniature dachshund and she has eaten toxic stuffs to dog and we had to go to emergency rooms a few time. This place was the only place where I could actually be with my dog during the treatment, and I could help them a little bit, too! I felt much better helping my dog instead of just waiting out side wondering if she was doing good or not. My dog seemed less stressful because We don't need to get separated,too. Waiting time was way more shorter than other places. The cost for the treatment was also a lot more affordable than other places, too! I had to drive 30 mins to get there but it was worthy. There were many stuffs and they are all sweet and caring. Momo was a little sassy but they all understood her and gave her good space, too! I'm very grateful that we found this place! read more
