We had a great experience at VEG in San Ramon! We had to bring in our 3 year-old kitty since she had some gastrointestinal issues that warranted an emergency visit at midnight the day before NYE. Upon entering, the receptionist was quite warm and welcoming, which immediately helped to ease our anxiety a little bit. We also spoke to her over the phone before visiting and she provided us with rough estimates for some of our kitty's treatment which was very helpful. I was relieved to see how clean and open everything was in the hospital, since veterinary hospitals can often be unclean and daunting for both pets and owners. We were immediately led to a clean exam room with ample, comfortable seating for my partner and me. When it came time for our kitty to get an x-ray, we were allowed to watch the technicians take her scans. Afterward, it didn't take long for us to get her results and for the doctor to give us next steps for treatment. We were also given a price breakdown for everything, which was quite helpful, and informed of credit options we could use for payment plans. Luckily, our kitty is feeling a lot better after visiting VEG. We were so glad that we got to stay with her while she was being treated. Thank you so much to the team that helped us! read more

Service was amazing! Our family cat was able to get great care here. He had an obstruction in his stomach and small intestine, but the vets and nurses were able to perform surgery and lead him to recovery. They were kind and gave thorough explanations. We were also able to see each step of the process, so we could make sure he was okay. The lounge/amenities were also great; they included coffees/teas/waters, home baked cookies, trivia, and games for the little ones. I'd definitely recommend this place. read more

We came to this ER vet location a couple of months ago sadly and brought my mom's older dog who had been sick and was having labored breathing and was having a really difficult time breathing. She was scheduled later that afternoon to see our vet but we didn't want to have her suffer anymore even with only a couple more hours to wait to see our own vet. Those hours prior were so critical and just seeing her that way broke our hearts. We called VEG before coming and so they were expecting us and were so very kindhearted. They quickly got us in a room and we soon met Dr Hayder and his team and Zoe. They were all very compassionate and sympathetic. It seemed like we were waiting forever in the room because of circumstances and seeing our dog's rapid downhill condition, it was very emotional and even when I went out to get one of them for help, they didn't make us feel bad. They treated us like family and more importantly Dr Hayder was the sweetest and was so gentle with my mom and her dog. You can see the compassion in his face. They let us take our time in the room and didn't rush us at all and gave us a sweet succulent to take home. We appreciate the people there who were so kind to us on this day. He has anxiety when it comes to doctors and Dr. Willis was patient and kind and let him smell the stethoscope before using it so he wouldn't freak out when it touched him. Shantel was the best RVT too. She was also gentle and accommodating to my dog's anxiety and had a soft tone as she talked to him to give him a sedative. Our French Bulldog (George) swallowed a mango pit 5 days ago. He has been vomiting bile for the last five days. George has still been playful and active while still eating regularly (strong appetite). We decided to go to the vet to see if an x-ray is recommended to verify the mango pit was there. The x-ray results came back the vet noted that the x-ray cannot determine the seed to body tissue. They said they could usually see if it was a foreign object (I.e. metal, sock. etc). In conclusion, overpriced anti-nausea meds given and we were recommended to have him stay overnight to monitor his symptoms. Vet also noted that we can follow up with another x-ray if needed (what's the point if they can't determine seed to body tissue right??). I did not find this visit very helpful and understand that doctors are just so well acquainted with protocols (I.e. diagnostic testing, medications, treatments) and concealing with bandaids. We decided it was best to just take him home and monitor him ourselves. They say don't get lost in the google search engine but honestly Google was way more helpful with personal experiences from pet owners and interventions. I do want to note this may be a GREAT urgent care vet clinic but we did not have the best experience. $1,000 charged for them to tell us they are unsure if they see a mango pit is purely frustrating as a pet owner. At all costs it's always best to avoid going to the vet. Feed your pets a great diet and they will live long and healthy. Big pharma and pet food industry is the culprit to our pets existence. read more

Once arrived, we were checked in and sent to a pleasant and very tidy waiting room. I explained KJ's issues to the Vet who then proceeded to check his vital signs. She also suggested an ultra sound of his bladder. All indications were that there was nothing serious. KJ was given an IV of fluids and they gave me some complimentary cans of digestive care canned food. Within a day, KJ seemed fully recovered, regained his appetite and pooping commenced again, in the litter box. Obviously the return of good health and behavior adds to my overall good feeling experience with VEG, but beyond that, I am so grateful/thankful that they have the ability to see animals w/o appointment, that the facility is immaculately clean & organized, and that the staff (vets & support staff) were so caring, knowledgable and friendly, this will unquestionably be our go-to Veterinarian henceforth. read more

It's the weekend, and all the veterinary offices around me are closed including a VCA that was listed under an emergency contact for the weekend that my original veterinary had stated was closed. So, what did I have to do? Take my dog 30 minutes out to San Ramon, but that's not really the bad part. I have an American Pitbull Terrier who had been getting worse after taking a flea medication, Bravecto. Not even a few days in, my dog had started having side effects. Her back legs started giving up, she started having seizures, and she was throwing up constantly. It was truly terrifying. When I had initially called in, the doctors/nurses had checked me in and the service was fast. They wanted to run tests, which was fine. We told the doctors that we believe that it was the cause of Bravecto as we have read the side effects and everything had matched it completely. Instead of taking our consideration, our doctor immediately said no that it can't be the cause. Not even considering that certain dogs have had an adverse reaction before. Of course, she came back with charts off the wall. While my dog was constantly seizing, they put her in a brightly lit room and just continuously sedating her. My heart was torn as she kept having seizures and the doctors just said we had to let her go or go 24 hours and advising us that the probability of survival was very limited. I initially asked them if we can try to get all the Bravecto out of her system, and they did not even bother trying. The only problem my dog had prior to taking Bravecto was a UTI in which she was already taking medication that she had been taken before. Her original veterinarian that I had taken her to already ran the tests and we were in the clear before we had taken her here. It was the worst experience of my life. I feel like a lot of these doctors are fairly new, and do not do any additional research and only listen to the sales pitch of medications. They don't actually read up on adverse reactions, in which made me feel like all their doctors were negligent. I definitely do not recommend these doctors. read more

My dog was very sick. In the middle of the night, I tried Sage ER but they're doctor was in surgery. I tried another ER (don't remember the name) but their doctor was in surgery. So, I drove all the way from Brentwood to San Ramon to VEG. Best decision. They are wonderful. Every single person from the doctor (Dr. Forsythe) to the support staff, were so caring and attentive. I love the set up. It's an open clinic so you can see how your pet is being treated. They only took my dog in the back for xray but even then there's a little window so you can watch. I wish I could use them as my regular vet. read more

We had to come back for a second visit, Uni had a really bad flare up again and I called VEG right away. They answered super fast and confirmed I needed to bring her back in. (It was Saturday around 5pm) I was so surprised they even answered with how busy they were but let me tell you... they were so professional in making sure everyone there was being helped. They have so many staff members it's crazy. Everyone was being seen and helped! The Vets were literally non stop in seeing patients. They brought us to the waiting area and we were able to be seen almost right away again even with all the other emergencies going on. Dr Wilson came and saw Uni this time. She was amazing, just like Dr Sullenberger. She had a game plan for us too and made sure Uni and I were comfortable with the treatments. She even apologized that we had to come back for the second visit! I told her I appreciate that VEG was able to help Uni. (I personally didn't even mind the second visit, I knew uni was going to be well cared for based off the first visit) and of course all the techs who came and gave her the injection she needed were great as well. Superb care, excellent experience from beginning to end! After decades of owning pets, we finally had the kind of experience we always thought was necessary and compassionate, both for pets and for their owners. We were walk-ins after we called in the morning to see if they could see our hamster for wet tail, a life-threatening emergency situation for young hamsters. We showed up on a Sunday morning and were checked in right away. Front desk reception (Max) was friendly, caring and efficient. The layout is completely open, so you share the space with other owners and their pets. The treatment stations are side-by-side, and you can see sick animals recuperating in their kennels, plus the dedicated docs and techs efficiently handling every case that came in. There is something dignified and profoundly comforting about sharing the visit with other pet owners. No claustrophobic waiting room, no scary hallways leading back to the treatment rooms, no cries from terrified animals from behind closed doors. It was extraordinarily peaceful, and I think it was because owners were with their pets, and all of the pets who had received care were comforted by the presence of people. Wow! Who knew a visit to the emergency vet would be so amazing and pleasant! My dog (almost 15yo French bulldog) woke early on a Sat morning (430am) with a big ear hematoma from an ear infection. I took her right away bc I knew this needed to be addressed and couldn't wait until the Mon when my primary vet opens. I pulled up in the early morning hours and the registration person already had the door open. They checked me in within minutes on iPad and offered if I would like water/coffee/tea. I was directed to sit on the couch in the open exam environment. The nurse came over to us and did a quick vitals and brief triage. I provided history and then the vet came right over and examined my elderly dog while she stayed with me. This is so nice bc it decreases any stress of taking the pet back to a room without their pet parent. Every other ER vet visit (at different hospitals) are hours and hours of waiting, and then finally my dogs have been taken back without me which is disconcerting. This visit felt very patient focused and owner engaged. While we were waiting on a treatment, the initial registration person came over and offered me a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie (for the human!). Wow. My dog then had her ears cleaned by the nurse and we did this together all while we were on the couch and my dog was in my lap. She was patient and allowed me to ask for breaks bc I could tell it was a lot for my girl. Again, the registration person came over shortly after and kneeled and said "I don't want to overwhelm you when I know you have so much going on, but I'm leaving for the day, is there anything else I can help you with before I leave?" Seriously...what amazing care and compassion!! The vet and I discussed the different options to handle a complicated situation due to my dog's age (sedation is dangerous in elderly dogs and frenchies are even more risky!!) We decided on a more conservative treatment plan with ASAP follow up with our primary. Again, focus was on compassionate and owner engaged care. I would 1000% recommend this place! From the call on the phone, to helping her inside from my car, to the entire time she was there, the entire staff was so good to her. An amazing experience through a difficult time. Going to the emergency vet is not something anyone wants to do. Our first visit we were greeted by the friendly staff willing to help us bring our girl in for her exam. Upon entering the open concept took me by surprise and made me feel comfortable. You get to watch everything they are doing with your pet. Nothing is off-limits. The doctor, I think her name was Melissa, was one of the most compassionate doctors we've encountered. She walked us through what might help our girl and told us if things didn't improve bring her back after a few days. Today 12/15/23 we took our girl back as things weren't going too well. A new Dr started to talk to my husband, When Dr (Melissa) saw my husband she immediate walked over and told the other dr she would take care of our girl. After doing some X-rays which we requested, the results were not favorable. The dr was very open about our options. Unfortunately We knew what we needed to do. The dr and staff were so compassionate. The dr took us to a private room and gave us the time we needed to say our goodbyes. Super compassionate staff throughout the entire process. No one wants to go through this difficult decision, and our experience was unbelievable. Everyone gave their condolences as we left. I have had to come here 1x for hamster and another for puppy. Both issues popped up and veg couldn't get them in and found this place that is open 24/7 and allows walk-ins. This is major as a pet owner that is already scared for their animal children. I called ahead to see if they had anyone who worked on exotic animals (hamster) and they said they did. Lady emailed me forms so I could do ahead of time to save me when there. Everything was able to be done on my cell phone as I drove in. (Both hamster and pup - separate events) When we arrived: - hamster visit they actually didn't have an exotic vet when I eventually showed up, but were still able to examine and o felt comfortable with their overview. They also have an open area so I was able to go with him. - pup visit we had to do a test - tech came to car, waited 20 min and were let in after confirmed clear. Did exam and information. Didn't push meds which I liked, but details on what to look for. The place is super clean and allow you to go with you animal (extra points). Have waiting area in case need to be there longer. I just tried this place out last Sunday when my dog Luna got attacked by another dog while being boarded. Dr Chuck and his team were very thorough with her and even sat in the floor and pet her to make her more comfortable. I was pretty stressed out given my dog is a senior and a tripawd so we treat her like family. The staff treated her the same and I was so appreciative. Dr Chuck even found a bonus cotton ball lodged deep in Luna's ear that was forgotten by the kennel when she was being groomed as well! even though her bite was on her back, he checked her teeth, ears and everywhere else to make sure she was okay. the front office kept coming back to offer water and ask if we needed anything which was awesome! I was back tonight because the area Luna was bit got swollen with fluid and we were worried it was an abscess. It was pretty busy when we got there with a dog having a seizure and another that appeared to be in critical condition, so we had a wait a little bit but we were just happy to be seen. When Dr Cat came to us, she apologized for the wait (we didn't mind at all- we were actually happy to see they took the more critical care animals first!) and she was very personable with Luna (lots of belly rubs and snuggles) and was very kind to me and my husband. All the nurses that helped us were so kind as well! Luckily, Luna didn't have an abscess but fluid from all the inflammation. She was so gentle with Luna and didn't even charge us to drain it. It's a bummer to need emergency care for your animal- but seriously? This place is legit. EVERY staff member has as amazing and I'm so grateful to have found them. Thank you VEG team! I have brought my pup here on two occasions since they opened and I would recommend everyone in the Bay Area to go here when their fur baby gets sick. The first time I had to go was when my chihuahua got really sick late at night. I called all emergency vets in San Francisco and no one had time for the next ten hours (my dog was barely responsive so waiting 10+ hours was not an alternative). I got to VEG and saw the vet right away. The vet gave me multiple options on treatment and transparent pricing. After some pain medications and fluids (and help with nail trim from the sweetest staff members!!) we went back home. The vet also told me that I could call the day after to update them on my dogs health and ask any additional questions. The next time I had to visit VEG was when my dog got an allergic reaction while on a walk. Again, all emergency vets in San Francisco said that I could wait in my car for a minimum of 4-6 hours before seeing a vet (while my dogs whole head was swelling in big bumps). When I got to VEG, the reaction had gone down a bit and the vet told me what I could do myself if it happened another time in the future, (They did offer to do tests and treat it there but said that it was probably not necessary). Kellsi is the best! I can't remember the front desk persons name but he was very kind and understanding as well! The entire staff seemed very nice and I felt positive energy all around. I caught a little mouse on a mouse sticky pad around 8:00pm and I felt so sad for it and knew it was scared and struggling. I didn't want to leave it overnight and wait for our local wildlife to open the next day because that would mean waiting until 11:30am and I couldn't imagine this poor little thing stuck and struggling for that long. I looked up wildlife after hours and found VEG. I took the mouse over around 10:00pm and just followed up over the phone right now to see if it was doing okay and Kellsi said they were able to get the mouse off the sticky pad SAFELY and that the mouse had no serious injuries and that they will release it to the wild! My heart is so full and happy right now. I love animals so much and want to help as much as I can. Hi There- if you're in a hurry there is a summary at the bottom of my review. Our bearded dragon was looking dull, dehydrated, and practically lifeless. Our daughter was in a panic, and every vet we called said that they don't see Reptiles or "we have an opening next week." (Side note: did you know that there is a vet group called "All Creatures" who do not in fact treat ALL CREATURES??! What in the false advertisement is going on? They were nice over the phone though. ) I called VEG, and they said "Come on over." We were put in a room quickly, and offered bottled water and cookies. They brought a portable heat lamp in for our beardie, so he wouldn't get cold or stressed. One vet came in and examined him, and then consulted another vet before moving forward. We were given a diagnosis, and decided upon a treatment. Our daughter is very interested in veterinary medicine, and this team had her so informed and involved, I was blown away. They recognized that he was her pet, and she was so grateful. They even let her assist! I would pay this bill just for that alone. Our guy needed: IV fluids, pain meds, an abscess drained, an antibiotic, and an RX critical care reptile food. All were explained, demonstrated, administered, and sent home with us. The bill was not as expensive as I would have expected. The customer care was exceptional, and we highly recommend VEG. The facility is large, clean, and bustling with veterinary care professionals. The waiting room is spacious, the exam rooms are comfortable and have a window in the door so you don't feel boxed in. Something else I appreciate about VEG is the extremely thorough print out you are sent home with. Detailed instructions, referral numbers, step by step and crystal clear. Expensive BUT, worth it. The team there are so welcoming and so friendly and they never turn Luna away, no matter how petty the issue (Luna breaks nails). Luna is prone to nail breakage and she's a cutie so I never want her to feel any discomfort (broken nails hurt and bleed). The team here always takes us in, we sedate Luna, patch her up, and wake her. Luna wakes up unaware of how much more painful this would be with other vets. I definitely recommend this place if you don't mind spending a little on your pets. Well worth it. read more

It is still so raw and painful for me to write about the loss of my beloved bunny, Sprout, but I felt that I had to commend VEG on their incredible care and service to us both in his final moments. My darling bun had been going through some weight loss issues, and after what seemed like bouncing back to normal, he began declining rapidly on Feb 17th. I rushed him to VEG at about 11 at night and was seen immediately-- directed to just walk in and come right to a table where the techs and vet got to work right away, taking vitals. I was gently advised by the vet (and I am so sorry I didn't catch her name) that Sprout was nearing the end. They were all so kind as he took his final breaths in my arms, giving me space and time with my little guy as he left me. I feel so blessed to have been able to say goodbye in this way, it has always been my worst nightmare not to be there when losing my loved ones. Thank you, VEG, for your help, your time, your empathy, and for caring for my little one as best as you could. read more
