We brought our 18-year-old dog in around 4 AM after she had been lethargic and regurgitating for hours. She was barely responsive, and we were honestly terrified. From the moment we arrived, the staff was ready for us--someone was at the door waiting, which immediately put us at ease. The facility is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The open-concept emergency area lets you stay with your pet the entire time, which meant everything to us. Sadly, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to put our sweet girl down after 18 years. But I can't say enough about how the staff handled everything. Every single person was kind, compassionate, and professional. We were there from 4 AM until about 2 PM, and not once did we feel rushed. They gave us the time, space, and support we needed to be with her through her final moments, and treated her with so much love and dignity. They also showed the same care to my mom and me during one of the hardest days of our lives. Easy 5 stars. I hope I never need emergency services again, but if I do, I would come back here without hesitation. TY to all the staff.

These people saved my cat's life and the gratitude I have for them is hard to put into words. My cat, Virgil, who's a year and a half old, suddenly started showing signs of straining in the litter box one Friday afternoon. We have two set up for our cats, and he'd go from one to the other, visibly straining but not producing anything. But he was silent, and I only happened to notice it because I saw how he kept going back and forth between the front room to the boxes and back. I immediately called our vet, who told me to take him to an ER right away because it was possible he was experiencing a urinary blockage, which is deadly in male cats. They recommended VEG. We took him in and they wasted no time taking us into a back room to start examining him and getting all the background info they needed. They call this an open concept hospital, meaning that while they have private exam rooms, all of the procedures happen out in the open in the middle of their airy, large space. I had mixed feelings about it, plus I'm not sure how the animals feel about it when they're already distressed, but I also won't act like I know more than the experts. They also have rooms to accommodate pet owners who would like to stay overnight with their animals so they can get some sleep. This facility is open 24/7. Virgil did have a urinary blockage and needed to stay for two nights to have his bladder drained, be put on antibiotics, and observed to make sure he could pass urine on his own. Luckily he was resilient and made it out ok, but it was a very scary weekend that could've ended differently if I didn't notice and act as fast as I did. The doctors were extremely communicative, calling and texting throughout the days and nights to update us. One minor critique of this is that their text service is one-way only, meaning you can't reply via text, you can only receive them. I do think that should be updated. Virgil received the best possible care and he's still here because of them. Now, I'm not going to pretend this wasn't one of the biggest expenses we've ever had -- it was over $7000 in the end, much of that due to the cost of the overnight stays. It is insane how much pet care costs, and the amount due was eye watering. I can't recommend enough that every pet owner get pet insurance because you never know when something like this is going to happen. Most of the cost was covered by our insurance, but we still had to pay $3000 out of pocket. I'm not sure what the cost would've been at another hospital, but I can at least say the doctor was extremely thorough in explaining what every line item on the bill was and why they needed to do every test and procedure they did. Virgil is home and made a great recovery, and we're extremely thankful for everything VEG did to help him and to educate us on how to try to prevent this from happening again if at all possible. Veterinary Emergency Group in San Ramon saved our senior cat's life. We rushed in during the middle of the night with Kiba suffering from a life-threatening urinary blockage. It was one of the most frightening experiences our family has ever faced. The team responded immediately with urgency and professionalism, but what truly stood out was their compassion. The receptionist staff was incredible. They handled all payment and administrative details with patience and clarity while we were exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed. They made a chaotic moment feel organized and manageable. Dr. Caitlyn Wilson took care of Kiba through the night and was exceptional. She explained everything thoroughly, answered every question, and treated both our cat and our family with genuine empathy. This was our first emergency of this magnitude, and she guided us with steady confidence. Nurse Gina provided overnight care and was outstanding. She is warm, deeply caring, and a wealth of knowledge. Knowing she was caring for our cat gave us peace during an incredibly stressful night. When Dr. Casa took over the next phase of care, she continued that same level of excellence. She was attentive, professional, and compassionate. The continuity of care was seamless, and we always felt our cat was in capable hands. They also worked with our budget and helped us navigate options without pressure. Five stars is not enough. This team gave us our cat back.

It might make me emotional even writing this review, but VEG saved our kitty's life. Two weeks ago he escaped the house and fell out of a tree; we came rushing up to VEG with a barely breathing, bleeding, banged up little guy. I had called ahead and multiple staff came rushing out to get him, and went to work immediately. Based on what we were being told, we thought he wouldn't make it. Pneumothorax, fever, broken leg, sky high lactate levels, the whole nine yards. We had the kids say goodbye and everything. But between amazing care at VEG, a femur surgery at another clinic we were referred to, and a stubborn will to live, he's still with us. I don't think I was in my right mind that night, but thinking back I appreciated everything from the open floor plan where we had access to him at all times, staff constantly checking on us and giving us updates (both treatment and financial status), a comfortable waiting room, giving our boys quarters for the stuffy machine, and just the general understanding of the staff. I think it's a given emergency care is pricey, so we had that in mind at all times, and they were able to accommodate the options we chose. Special thanks to Dr Sana and truly everyone else we interacted with that night.

I can't thank VEG enough for the care they gave my cat during an emergency visit. He had an open wound, and the moment we walked in, we were triaged within minutes. What impressed me most was that the actual doctor was already in the room--I didn't have to repeat the story a dozen times to different people, which is such a relief in a stressful situation. From there, the vet techs came in to check vitals, and before I knew it, we were in the procedure area. I was shocked (in a good way!) that I was allowed to stay and watch--it really gave me peace of mind to see everything happening in real time. Dr. Nina Matsuo and Nurse/RVT Destiny were absolutely wonderful. Kind, patient, and so sweet--they walked me through every step and made sure I understood what was happening. Their compassion really made a scary situation so much easier to handle. While I truly hope I never have to step foot in an emergency vet again, VEG will always be the first place I think of if I ever do. To Dr. Matsuo, Nurse Destiny, and the entire VEG team--thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my sweet boy and for treating both of us with so much kindness. I will never forget the way you turned such a frightening moment into one filled with care and reassurance.

it's already so hard saying goodbye to our beloved pets. thankfully, the staff at VEG made that process as smooth as it could be, given the circumstances. if you need empathy, patience and knowledgable staff from the first call to exiting the facility, this is your place. the receptionist was super kind, offering cookies and warm/cold temp water when i was falling apart and stressed out. while also being efficient in getting my info/the details of my chinchilla's condition over to the doctors. the doctors were very honest and caring of my chinchilla. it's hard enough finding an exotic animal vet near where i am but thankfully they have colleagues with more experience with chinchillas/rodents. they were very sweet to my baby chester. they also have a space with separate rooms with cozy lighting, tissues and a comfy couch, for people to say goodbye to their pets. as i was saying bye to him, they provided different options for cremation and offered to take fur clippings for me. they were very respectful when taking him away because they wrapped him in the blanket that i had brought him in. i requested his whiskers, his tail bristles, and fur from his leg area. they went the extra mile as they captured his white chest fur, plenty of his long whiskers and the softest part of his fur which belonged to the top of his head (that i had kissed prior to letting him go) ultimately, they brought clarity in a situation that i hadn't prepared for and instead of me scrambling in confusion, they were able to guide me through. shoutout to the staff at VEG!

Our vet is closed on weekends, and the emergency vet near us was slammed - so we found ourselves here after my dog, Rocky, woke up this morning shaking and refusing to jump or run (very unusual for him). We were seen at VEG within 10 minutes and seen by a vet, then given a treatment plan with an estimated cost. The X-rays took forever, but it's an emergency vet so that's somewhat expected. Amazing service, compassionate care, well worth the extra drive. They even have a play area for kids and a Keurig with free pods!

My dog ate raisins and I called my go-to vet. They recommended VEG. When I arrived, they were so kind and welcoming. Their customer service is top tier. I'm so impressed with their whole set up. They quickly eased my anxiety by having Dr. Nina Matsuo talk to me. I was given some options and we went through with their suggestions. Everything turned out fine. I couldn't ask for a better experience at a Vet ER. I told my partner that our dog has a better emergency room than we do!

Took my little frenchie girl Aiko this morning at 5:30 am because she was breaking out with hives. I'm from Hayward so it was a drive out. I just picked the first one on yelp that was open with good reviews. When I walked in I was like wow this is the nicest looking vet ER I've ever seen! The girl checking me in was super nice and let us sit on the couch comfortably while she took our information. The doctor and all the vet techs were all very sweet and came up to give pets to Aiko. There was no line when I got there which was amazing. I loved the open concept but could imagine how it might be hectic with multiple dogs there at the same time. Thanks for taking care of aiko today!

We unexpectedly found ourselves at VEG ER for Pets from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. with our kitty, and I truly can't say enough good things about the care we received. She's already on the road to recovery thanks to their incredible team. The staff was compassionate, attentive, and amazing during a very stressful night. Highly recommend keeping them in mind if you ever find yourself needing an emergency vet.

I've unfortunately had to bring my dog Maple here twice, once in February and once last week. Every single person that I've encountered here has been awesome. Stellar service, empathetic, efficient, knowledgeable, thorough. Clean clinic that you're allowed to accompany your pet directly into. Most vets due to covid don't even let you enter the lobby, let alone be with your pet throughout their entire visit. Can't recommend them enough for your fur babies. read more

Such an amazing place to be especially during a tragic time with your pet. I can not thank this place enough for their amazing customer service and care! My dog coco was hit by a car and I was feared he was not going to make it. I called this place and told them what happened. Front desk staff was very comforting and even allowed the veterinarian to speak with me who also calmed me down. I walked in with my dog I was immediately greeted and staff took my dog with open arms back to the emergency room and asked me if I wanted to join. I was both shocked and stressed. My stress slowly lower because of the environment it was very clean, music playing, staff walking around caring for the pets with a smile and working as a team! I was informed of the whole process of what was going on . I was asked if I needed water, coffee and a cookie. I was asked to leave my dog over night for more care and to be observed. I walked out of VEG feeling confident that my dog was in good hands! I got a text messages with an update and my dog is alive in recovery! Thank you VEG!!! read more

I would like to start off by thanking all of the staff members at the clinic. Everyone is extremely nice; they listen and truly care about your pet. They make you feel welcome and provide comfort for both you and your pet during visits. The clinic is exceptionally clean, and the doctors and nurses are very knowledgeable. I've been to many Vet ERs in Bay Area in the past, and San Ramon Vet ER is by far the most professional and caring ER! I brought my dog, Peachy, to this clinic twice. The first time was for an anal gland rupture, and the second time was for a severe cough. Even though I live 50 miles away, this is the only ER I will ever trust with my baby, and it's worth the drive. The care they provided to Peachy was outstanding. They went over every detail and provided a step-by-step explanation of the procedure. The lab results, x-ray results, and any other test results came in super quickly, within 10-15 minutes. They allowed me to stay with my pet, and they performed the procedure in front of me, so it didn't traumatize either of us. Other ERs make you stay there the whole day and don't allow you to see your pet until you're called into the room. The San Ramon Vet ER gets you in and out quickly, depending on your pet's condition. Both times, the doctors were able to provide excellent care and get us out within 1-2 hours. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who is looking for true care, quick response, and great results. It is also the most affordable clinic compared to other ERs in the Bay Area. read more

If I could give VEG 6 stars I would. They truly saved my rabbit's life. My recently adopted bunny experienced some severe symptoms of GI stasis - something I'd never experienced with my other rabbit. A big shout out to Dr. Kalb, Dr. Gascoyne, and to the rest of the VEG staff. My sweet Lola was such a fighter but did not stand a chance at survival without their help and intervention. My fiancé had to take my bun as I was away for vacation. Even while I was away, the doctors were happy to answer my calls and gave detailed updates regarding my rabbit's progress. It was a scary situation for us not knowing the outcome but I truly believe that she was very fortunate to be in such good hands at VEG. read more

Came in today at around 10:15ish and was out by 12:45. After my initial Check In I went to the lobby to use the restroom and it was a bit crowded so try to get there early. My poor old lady Hershey had multiple hotspots that got infected, she was shaved in all the areas and cleaned. They gave us the medications she needed and we were out! Literally saved my dogs life. Went to another vet first and could not afford to get her operated on but they told us about VEG and they were able to help. We came in on a Saturday and were seen immediately. They actually prioritize the health of your pets. I will only ever go to VEG for emergency pet care. As an RN, I can truly say this emergency vet is top of the line! You are able to stay with your fur baby every step of the way. We initially brought my cat Luna in twice for an open wound on her paw and the staff was so kind and knowledgeable. Her lacerations were stitched up and healed without complications. Then we brought in our 2 year old Doberman, Diesel and found that he had severe kidney failure. He stayed overnight with quality care. We then transferred him to Sage for higher level of care. Unfortunately a few months later we had to put him to rest at VEG. Our vet had us take the time we needed and I truly appreciated the empathy and support from all the staff. Big shout out to Dr Margaret Powell and all the staff at VEG! We rushed our fur baby here on Tuesday night at 9:30pm and we were seen immediately and treatment began immediately as well, without a bunch of needless paperwork first! It was a true ER situation and they responded as such, which was beyond comforting! I'll save everyone the long story, but wanted to share that the care and attention our dog got was amazing and after some much needed medical attention and an IV overnight, he was good as new and back home by 7am and you'd never even know he was sick! The topper was we even got a partial refund from what we had agreed to pay, as the treatment worked quicker than originally thought! Definitely our go to place now in a time of need for our pets! Really over the top care and attention for our fur baby during the late night hours! Thanks VEG! read more

First off, when I called to see if it was necessary to bring in my dog, I spoke with Dr. Donner (if I remember correctly) and she was super helpful and nice. I usually take my pets to the VCA in San Leandro but when I called them, they were extremely rude and unhelpful and they even told me to go elsewhere. Based on the wonderful phone call I had with the doctor, I decided to go with VEG. Best choice I could have made. They sent a check-in form for me to fill out thru text message, which was super quick and easy. When we got there (around 9:30 pm) we were immediately attended to, the front desk staff were extremely friendly. We were placed in a really nice and comfortable waiting room with a couple of other families and their pets. Overall, the entire process of checking in, getting seen, and getting taken care of was amazing. The entire staff is highly professional and kind. If I ever have another pet emergency, I will most definitely be coming back! Details of my visit: The entire process only took about an hour and a half. They checked my dog out, made a diagnosis, gave her a pain medicine injection, some IV fluids, and sent us home with a couple of medications. Overall, it costed $580, and honestly I think that's a super great price for the experience we had. We were included in every step of the process and we even got to bond with the other families that were in the waiting room. Idk. I just simply can't express how great this place is. Highly recommend! read more

My French Bulldog Gus was starting to breath a little different and also has a bump in between his paws. Dr. Kate was great. She instantly came out to talk to us. Her and the rest of the team were great with Gus and made me feel comfortable/in the loop on what was going on at all times. There was a bit of a long wait which is to be expected in any emergency facility. I understand they have to treat the most severe cases that come in first but I never felt like they forgot about Gus, they were very transparent about timeline and what was happening next. High recommend for anyone who has an urgent need or concern with their pet. Everyone I spoke to was very kind and I knew Gus was in good hands. The front desk girl even came around with warm fresh baked cookies for everyone around 11pm. read more

10/10 would recommend this emergency room vet! We took our 4 month old kitten here after she had been vomiting and not eating or drinking for 2 days. We received excellent care here for our kitten and were so impressed with the overall experience. The entire staff including the receptionist, techs, and Dr. were all SO professional and kind. We were brought into a room right away and seen by Dr. To very quickly. Dr. To asked good questions, listened, and did a physical exam and ultrasound right then and there. Dr. To was communicative and transparent with us as far as the treatment plan and cost. While waiting the receptionist came back in to check on us and see if we needed anything; water, tea etc. The entire staff was kind and truly went above and beyond for us. Our kitten got blood work done and an injection for hydration and anti nausea medicine. We were told to monitor her and come back for an X-ray if the problem persisted. This ER did what was necessary/best for our kitten, but was not trying to sell us a bunch of unnecessary medical treatment like some other vets do just trying to scam vulnerable pet owners out of money. I would trust them with any of our pets. read more

Veg is the best. The staff is very friendly and compassionate. Brought my cat in last night and they diagnosed him immediately, with a urinary blockage. Started pain meds and prepped for a procedure. The whole time making sure I'm ok, gave me waters, and let me watch the whole procedure. The transparency of their procedures and operations is very comforting and gives me confidence there's nothing going on behind the scenes. I spoke with Dr Perkins over the phone, she was alarmed by the noises my cat made over the phone and urged me to come in. Thank you. Dr To did the procedure, with a straight and serious face, very confident and kept me informed the whole time, answering my constant questions. Holly was the nurse (sorry if this title is incorrect) who assisted the procedure, helping Dr To, and monitoring vitals of my kitty. It's really hard to see your baby sedated and floppy having "surgery" but I knew he was in the best hands. Dr Powell updated me fist thing in the morning. Like 6am first thing!! Came in Saturday morning with my dog who was vomiting bile. We eventually found out it was an obstruction in his small intestines... he needed immediate surgery. Dr. Ogg, CJ, John, Angelica, Dr. Jason, Petra, Dr. who took my dog's ultrasound but I forgot to ask their name.... Just want to start off by saying that this review is going to be a long one, but worth a read. I came to VEG last Wednesday because I found out the puppy that I had for not even 2 days had parvo because of her previous owner. I called every hospital in my area to see who could treat her immediately, because I knew how fatal this infection could be if not treated fast enough. At 5 am, VEG said they could see my puppy within 20-25 minutes. After her test for Parvo came out positive, the doctors told me my options for her and said that it's best to leave her here for a few days to recover. I was reluctant at first, because of how far I would be from her but decided that this would be the best option. She was here for a week, and with the help of all the nurses, Doctor Ogg, Doctor Baker, and another doctor (sorry I forgot her name), they nursed my puppy back to health. Even though she was small (2 months), they made sure to help her as best as they could, and no words can express how grateful I am. I genuinely think if I didn't bring my puppy to this hospital she wouldn't have made it. They had very good communication with me and kept me updated everyday on how my puppy was doing, and I was able to see her everyday. Their hospital is very clean, big, and everyone who works there is so incredibly nice. Thank you so much VEG San Ramon for taking care of Peppa and reducing my nerves and worries down to zero. read more

VEG is amazing! We recently made a visit when one of my dogs had a broken dewclaw. Since it was after hours of operation at our regular vet and the beginning of a holiday weekend, we were advised to go to VEG and I'm glad we did. The staff was kind, professional, and proficient throughout our visit. They quickly got us checked in upon arrival and helped my dog feel more comfortable by allowing our other dog to accompany her into the exam room. The vet quickly evaluated and treated the dewclaw; even though it wasn't a severe injury they still treated our concern with respect and care. While going to the vet can be stressful, the VEG staff put my dogs (and me) at ease throughout our visit. They absolutely prioritize the pets' well-being. Highly recommend! read more

I can't say enough great things about VEG. We brought in our cockapoo (Bella) in the middle of the night because she was having difficulty breathing. Turns out she was in congestive heart failure. (CHF) The doctors there immediately got to work, put her in oxygen and took X-rays. They even set me up with a chair, right outside her oxygen booth so I could sit with her. Everything there was completely transparent. I was able to be with Bella the whole time (while in the oxygen booth, viewing the X-rays from a window, and I was even rubbing her ears while the placed the port for her IV) After spending two nights there, she came home. For her follow up, they arranged for a cardiologist to come in and assess her heart. Now she is doing great. Night and day from where she was 48 hours prior. Unfortunately the CHF will shorter her life (maybe only 1 -1 1/2 years). But we will cherish every second we still have with her. Thank you VEG for taking such great care of our fur baby. read more

I brought my 19 year little girl to VEG in San Ramon. She was suffering from advanced arthritis and ulcerated eyes. The VEG doctor and assistants, descended upon my little girl like angels. (Corny I know but that's what I felt.) All performed their jobs beautifully. My dog's doctor, was so good. After conferring we both decided it was time to say goodbye to Beasy, my girl. She brought us to a comfort room complete with bed. It gave me a private place to hold Beasy for the final time and to say thanks, I love you forever and goodbye. Euthanasia was quick and painless. I stayed with her after her passing and reflected on all those 19 wonderful years we spent together. They made some paw prints for me which I will cherish always. To the doctor and technicians of VEG. who took such kind care of the little girl my sincerest thanks. I shall always remember this time together. You made it so special for my little girl and me. Please use extreme caution if you bring your pet here. We brought our 11 year old dog in due to breathing issues. We were immediately told that she could pass within minutes to half an hour and that we should put her to sleep. We refused and they put her on oxygen and began running tests. Our dog pulled through and her vitals were good/normal, it was just her breathing. After 12 hours, their running theory was that our dog's cancer returned. Although we truly felt she had pneumonia, the doctors (shift changes brought in new doctors twice a day) were adamant that she should be better by now. We saw multiple doctors overseeing our dog and every doctor would tell us they recommend putting her down. One doctor in particular was extremely rude, Doctor To. While other staff would make the recommendation to put her to sleep, they would follow our direction and reassure us they would do what they could. However, Doctor To would continuously come back and tell us that we should put her down, despite our wishes. This doctor was even bold enough to ask us what our goals were. We were immediately taken off guard, given that it's an emergency medical facility, and told the doctor our goal was to take her home. Doctor To's response was, well I don't think that's going to happen. Our dog ultimately stayed at VEG for 8 days on oxygen. At day 8, they had no answers and suspected it was cancer (for reference she had a tumor removed 3 years ago and we regularly get scans, the last scan was 2 months ago and it was clean). We requested a transfer to another facility for more care and that was like pulling teeth. The same rude Doctor To was assigned to our dog that day and it was very obvious she did not want to help and we were left feeling that our dog's life was in this persons hands who likely is going to tell facilities that she's a lost cause. We ended up calling the facilities that Doctor To called afterwards to fact check and some information she gave were untrue. In the end, a specialty facility accepted her case and she was transferred. Note, as we're in our car about to leave and follow the transport nurses (with our dog on oxygen) to the next facility the front desk decides to run out to our car and tell us we have to pay another invoice. We were there from 5am that morning and all afternoon and they could have come to us anytime for that. We end up at the new facility and the criticalist that took in our dog immediately states that she's not in nearly as bad of condition as VEG made her out to be. In short, the next day after they took her in, they diagnosed her, took her off oxygen, and 2 days later she was discharged. The new facility let us know that VEG should have told us to transfer her earlier, that she had a severe case of fluid overload (at one point we watched Doctor To increase her IV fluid intake by double, when asked why that's happening the response was that our dog needed it) causing acute damage to her kidney. The specialty hospital noted that our dog's kidney values were normal when she was first admitted to VEG but now she was battling kidney failure and edema due to VEG's actions. Just by the doctors touching our dog, they suspected that she was overloaded with fluid and our dog had gained 2lbs of water weight just from being at VEG. The specialty hospital had to take immediate actions to try to undue the damage to our dog done while at VEG. The specialty hospital also confirmed multiple times that the issue was not cancer and it was very evident from looking at the X-rays (even a 3rd party radiologist review confirmed the same). If you're wondering why we didn't move facilities earlier, it's because the doctors told us she wouldn't survive the transfer and that other facilities would likely not take her in. We spent tens of thousands of dollars here, which easily could have been put towards the new facility who not only provided the necessary care, but also needed to try to reverse what was done at VEG. We were at VEG at all hours of the day for over a week. We saw and spoke to several pet owners come in and leave without their pet. It breaks our hearts wondering if those pets could have been saved. Understandably, every situation is different, but based on our experience we seriously question the level of effort and care that these doctors are providing and how many pets didn't need to be put down. The facility is open, so you hear from other owners that VEG's doctors seem to always recommend putting the pet to sleep. Please use extreme caution when considering taking your pet here. There are other options available and don't feel that you have to use this facility because it's open 24/7 or because you can be beside your pet. If you do bring your pet here, please take caution and know that it's valid to advocate for their health and well-being. As a pet owner, I would much rather my pet get the care they need. read more

This place is such a blessing! I feared the day I'd ever need after hours care for our 3 rats only because it's hard to trust others and know that they have your animals best interest. I stumbled upon VEG when I noticed one of my rats having noisy breathing. It was so reassuring that when we saw the doctor, they knew about small animals. The doctors assessed their breathing and overall health/appearance. They gave us prescriptions to treat a respiratory infection and our little guy ended up making it. These people really care about you and your animals and they listen. I will always suggest this group to any pet parent whether it's for rats, hamsters, rabbits, guineas, dogs, cats and even birds. I just had to write a review about my experience with V.E.G. It was exemplary! I was hesitant to go, even though my cat was in bad pain and fear, sure that I would receive similar treatment to what I had received (and observed) at a more local Vet Hospital a few years back. I was certain both of us would be better off if he died at home (and not because of the money). Rather, because of my previous experience where I was made to be apart from my dying cat - sit in the waiting room - while they tended to him somewhere in the back. While waiting I watched as a dog was brought in in breach labor - and they refused to help her until the owners came back with enough money. So I thought ALL Emergency Vets were money-hungry and compassionless. But someone pushed me to go to VEG (for my cat's comfort) And my experience there was so VERY different! You walk in and are led to a exam table where you wait WITH your pet while the doctor works on him/her. They explain what the cost will be in 'real time' so you can make your best medical versus financial decision and not get a big surprise bill. (I told them how much money I had to work with* and they did as much as they could to stay within that amount and still help my cat properly) The staff was extremely caring and compassionate And they went the 'extra mile' & did little things, all which cost them money, to offer dignity to me and my cat under very trying circumstances. While I hope to never need an Emergency Vet again (but unfortunately I probably will) I will, if circumstances permit, drive past the two other Emergency Vets again to go to them. And I recommend that you consider going to them also. * Bearing in mind that Emergency Vets are considerably more costly than is my regular vet. read more

(Content Warning: pet death) We took our 2 year old hamster Oolong here. We were seen very promptly, and were able to check-in beforehand via a texted link. The receptionist office (and the clinic itself) is very clean, with snacks and soothing music, and the staff was polite. Dr. Michael Hyder handled Oolong (and us) with great gentleness. We followed him for Oolong's diagnosis and ultrasound, and he walked us through every step. It was a very in-depth evaluation. Unfortunately, Oolong had a cancerous mass, and we had to euthanize. Dr. Hyder walked us through euthanization with great empathy. We requested Oolong be put in a cardboard box so we can bury him in our garden, and Dr. Hyder tore up some tissue so that he could lie in it like bedding. We didn't request that, and it was a stellar gesture of humanity. (It also stopped his small body from sliding around in the box when carried, which would have been awful.) Dr. Hyder empathized with us that hamsters are usually seen as disposable pets, but they are living beings who deserve good husbandry too. I can see he truly believes that through his conduct. It's wonderful to find animal care that believes in the welfare of the smallest and overlooked creatures. read more

Unfortunately, the earliest appointment available at SAGE was a week away, which I completely understood given the demand for specialty care. In the meantime, Peaches needed immediate attention, so I took her to an emergency veterinary hospital in Fresno. There, they sedated her and discovered a foxtail deeply embedded in her vaginal wall. Although they removed it, they couldn't say with certainty that it was the sole cause of her symptoms and strongly recommended that we keep our appointment with the internist at SAGE. I'll admit that after reading some of the reviews online, I was worried that I might be pressured into unnecessary procedures or expensive treatments. I couldn't have been more wrong. From the moment we arrived, I was impressed. SAGE truly operates like a full-service hospital, with the equipment and specialists needed to address complex medical issues all under one roof. Most importantly, the care and professionalism we received were exceptional. Dr. Miller was absolutely amazing. He came into the room already familiar with Peaches' medical history and had clearly taken the time to thoroughly review her records before meeting us. That level of preparation immediately put me at ease. After examining Peaches, Dr. Miller explained that she appeared to be in very good health. He discussed the option of performing additional diagnostic procedures to investigate further and provided a detailed cost estimate. While the procedure was expensive, it was understandable given its complexity. What I appreciated most was his honesty. He told us that, based on her exam and improvement, he didn't feel additional procedures were necessary at that time. Instead, he recommended monitoring her closely and reassured us that if the bleeding returned, we could contact him directly and he would make himself available. His honesty, transparency, and genuine concern for Peaches meant so much to me. Rather than pushing unnecessary testing, he helped us make an informed decision that was truly in our dog's best interest. We also discussed some ongoing digestive issues Peaches has experienced over the years. Dr. Miller offered helpful recommendations, sent us home with food samples to try, and even offered to write a prescription should we decide to switch her diet. As pet parents, we all want veterinarians who are knowledgeable, compassionate, and honest. Dr. Miller and the entire team at SAGE exceeded my expectations in every way. I am incredibly grateful for the care they provided to my sweet Peaches. Thank you, Dr. Miller and the entire SAGE team!

* We rushed our dog to Sage Emergency in Dublin after he choked on a dental treat that got stuck…read more The X-rays showed that it was lodged at the junction between his esophagus and stomach. Dr. Beth Lieblick assessed everything quickly and chose the least invasive option first. After anesthesia, she was able to push the blockage down into his stomach so he could digest it naturally instead of going straight to a major surgery. Our dog stayed overnight for monitoring and came home the next morning safe and stable. Communication was clear the entire time, and the team was professional, calm, and genuinely kind during a very stressful situation. * In terms of cost, this is emergency care, so it is expensive. The initial diagnostic alone was around 1300 dollars. With bloodwork, X rays, anesthesia, the procedure, overnight monitoring, and medications, the estimate initially went up to 14000 dollars. The final total ended up being about 6600 dollars after adjustments. Even knowing emergency care costs more, it is still a financial shock when you are facing a possible life threatening situation for a family member. * We are giving 4 stars. The doctor and team absolutely deserve recognition for their professionalism and friendliness. The only reason we are taking off one star is the price. While we understand emergency care is costly, the numbers can feel overwhelming. Our advice is to get pet insurance if possible. If a bill in the thousands or potentially over ten thousand would be difficult, it is worth researching emergency options ahead of time. For us, what mattered most is that our family member came home safe.

I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.

We played around with the numbers to help us fit it within an easier budget. Veronica was very thorough, patient and informative. My baby was sick so we had to do something. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Within a matter of a short period, diagnostics came in with not so good news that left us with two options. Neither of which I was prepared for. After hearing the extent of my babies sickness, it was evident we needed to set her free. As painful as those words and that decision was, it had to be done. We drove back to that hospital to be with our baby. Sage has a special room just for the letting go process. Although we were not ready to say goodbye, we appreciated the quick return on labs and such, that gave us the answers needed to make the right decision for our girl. If you have been trying and struggling to piecemeal answers for your ill pet, I'd suggest going to this one stop shop. They have the doctors, staff, equipment and specialists on hand to get you the answers your pet and your family deserves. We love you Tabitha and miss you greatly. Instead of acting quickly, the receptionist was incredibly rude and told me to wait for a nurse just to decide "if they could stay or not." I ended up waiting for over 40 minutes. While I was waiting, three other clients walked in, and all of their animals were taken back to see a nurse immediately. When I questioned the staff about this, they claimed the other animals were emergencies. How are 4 starved and dehydrated kittens not considered an emergency? What makes this worse is that this place is supposed to work with local animal shelters, yet they couldn't care less about these rescue animals when it actually mattered. It felt like because these were rescues and I wasn't a standard high-paying client, they didn't want to bother helping them. A veterinary hospital should care about saving animal lives, regardless of where they came from. The lack of care, terrible communication, and rude behavior at the front desk are completely unacceptable. Avoid this place if you actually have a real emergency.

They have the bedside manner of rabid jackals-especially the administrative staff. THE FIRST TEMPERATURE CHECK CAUSED SUDDEN DEATH On June 22, we had the traumatic experience of losing our cherished guinea pig under the care of VEG San Ramon. We hold Rhiannon Desideri and Nurse Tye Laver primarily responsible for this grievous event. The unprofessionalism, lack of transparency, and sheer negligence displayed during our visit were deeply unsettling. Upon arrival, our guinea pig was diagnosed with lung issues and recommended an X-ray. Despite the clear distress and vulnerability of our pet, he was subjected to sedation twice. When Nurse Tye faced difficulties with the initial X-ray, Rhiannon Desideri rejected to provide necessary assistant and let Nurse Tye "just give another sedation" without adequately addressing the potential risks. The facilities, too, are ill-equipped to handle pets like ours; our guinea pig was placed in proximity to predators, and all animals and equipment were housed within a single room. The troubling events further unfolded when Tye handled our guinea pig roughly. Despite our guinea pig's crucial need to remain inside the oxygen box and without any prior communication of her intentions, she abruptly grabbed our guinea pig by his upper body, forcing him out of the oxygen box. Her strong grip made our guinea pig scream twice distressingly. When we tried to intervene, Tye used her shoulder to obstruct us from reaching our guinea pig and rebuffed our offer to administer the medication ourselves. She quickly moved our guinea pig to her workspace, ignoring the clear distress it caused our already stressed and weakened pet. Tye hastily administered three oral doses to our guinea pig before enlisting the help of another nurse for a temperature check. In a distressing sequence of events, our guinea pig was forcibly being in a belly up position while one nurse held him upper body and the other rapidly inserted the thermometer into his rectum. No prior explanation or indication of the invasive nature of this temperature check was given to us. Our guinea pig then peed and died while the thermometer was still inside his body, within a few hours after arriving at VEG, instead of what they suggested at the beginning - 3-day hospitalization. The subsequent attempt at CPR was fraught with further errors, including their inability to find suitable equipment in a timely manner. While the entire process was heart-wrenching for us, Rhiannon's actions post the incident, including downplaying critical events in her report, were particularly jarring. We were contacted by Jason Dombrosky, who identified himself as the owner, after we reached out to them seeking clarity on important details including the rush of performing an invasive temperature check immediately after forcefully feeding three antibiotics shots within a few minutes, which ultimately caused the sudden death of our pet. Instead of providing clear answers, Jason Dombrosky focused on deflecting blame and emphasizing medical jargon and non of our questions got answered. As pet owners, we sought compassion, understanding, and clarity, but were met with defensive responses. This facility showed a stark lack of care, professionalism, and expertise when handling our beloved pet. The upper management lacks basic veterinary ethics. We trusted VEG San Ramon with our pet's life and have been left utterly devastated by the outcomes of their negligent practices. I urge pet owners to consider our experience before seeking care here and hope no one else has to witness the unnecessary loss of their pet due to medical malpractice. We have submitted our complaints to the California Veterinary Medical Board. Regardless of the outcome, we determine to pursue justice. read more

Life-Saving Care for My Frenchie - Amazing Staff and Compassionate Service I cannot thank the team at Pleasant Hill Emergency Vet and San Ramon Emergency Vet enough for saving my dog Frenchie. After he had his teeth cleaned, things took a terrifying turn when he developed pneumonia and had to be placed on an oxygen machine. He was very sick and, at one point, I honestly thought I was going to lose him. For over five days, Frenchie fought for his life, and it was touch-and-go several times. The level of care, professionalism, and compassion from the staff at both clinics was absolutely incredible. Dr. Dombrowsky and the entire team at Pleasant Hill Emergency Vet, along with the staff at San Ramon Emergency Vet, were amazing. They treated Frenchie like family, and I could see just how much they genuinely cared for him. Their kindness, attention to detail, and constant updates gave me hope even in the most uncertain moments. They went above and beyond to ensure Frenchie's comfort and recovery. I also want to specifically mention Dr. Casa at the San Ramon office, who was truly exceptional. She was not only compassionate but also incredibly honest and transparent about Frenchie's health. Her words, "Take it one hour at a time," really helped me stay grounded during such a stressful period. Her approach was exactly what we needed, and I'm so grateful for her care. After Frenchie was stable and back home, I went back to Pleasant Hill Emergency Vet a couple of days later with him in my arms. The staff was so excited to see that Frenchie had pulled through and was doing well. It was such a touching moment and really showed how much they care about the animals they treat. I am forever grateful to Dr. Dombrowsky, Dr. Casa, and the wonderful team at both of these emergency vet clinics. The love, kindness, and dedication they showed throughout this stressful and emotional time made all the difference. I don't even write reviews but I had to come on here and write a review because my heart aches for my dead cat every single day. My 1 year old cat was having a hard time breathing and all they did was put him in an oxygen cage and give him an antibiotic that made him sleepy. The whole night they kept walking past him ignoring him but gave their full undivided attention to the dogs that came in playing with them giving them love and attention. Then when it came to my cat there was a complete change in energy (clear bias) Finally gave him an x-ray and said he has pneumonia. Prescribed him with an antibiotic and said he's good to go. Literally the next day he collapsed had foam coming out of his nose and experienced the most painful passing Brought his body back and another doctor "suspected" heart failure and he "should've" stayed at the hospital that night to be monitored. That's two different opinions from two different doctors that work under the same building so be cautious that your care will vary depending on the doctor you have. Even realizing they messed up and offered to cremate him for free as an "apology" for the miscalculation This place is a joke. Expect to pay 1k minimum just to pay for medicine, hours in an oxygen tank and a foot in the behind out the door. Don't be fooled by the ratings. On 6/8/2024, I brought my puppy KoKo in to be seen and per usual, we left feeling much better. VEG San Ramon doctors, the front desk staff and all of the care staff are AHHHHMAZING! The staff work together like an award winning orchestra, which is extraordinary for an emergency center. I drive from Stockton to VEG San Ramon without hesitation and with confidence knowing that my fur babies will be in great hands and that VEG staff will do everything possible to identify and resolve their health concern. As a pet parent, great veterinary care is extremely important. The front desk staff promptly emails invoices and medical records to pet parents and they are extremely sympathetic and understanding. I recently brought my small dog (3.5 lbs) to VEG after she ingested a raisin, which can be extremely toxic (although the vet did provide reassurance that this is rare. I wasn't willing to risk the health of my beloved pet). From the moment we walked in, the care and compassion we received were outstanding, not just for my dog, but for me as well. The staff was kind, patient, and attentive, clearly understanding how stressful this situation was. I was impressed by how they got down on the floor with the animals, meeting them at their level to provide comfort. They even tried a couple of different foods to find something my very picky dog would eat before safely inducing vomiting to help her expel the raisin and avoid toxin absorption. Their calm, compassionate approach immediately put me at ease. They explained everything thoroughly, cared for my dog as if she were their own, and also checked in on my well-being throughout the process. We had an amazing experience at VEG in San Ramon after bringing our little one in after midnight. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted right away and made to feel welcome during a very stressful situation. This is not your ordinary veterinary visit. The open layout was incredibly unique and reassuring, no hidden back rooms or closed-off areas. You can actually see the equipment, the medical teams working, and the level of care being provided in real time. It was very eye-opening and created a sense of transparency and trust that we really appreciated. The waiting area was also so thoughtful and comfortable, with coffee, tea, and cookies available for guests. The atmosphere overall felt calm, modern, and supportive rather than cold or overwhelming like many emergency clinics can feel. My experience at VEG has been exceptional, and it truly stands out compared to most other vets I've visited. While their services can be pricey, the level of care and transparency they provide is unmatched. For example, during my cat's ultrasound, they brought me into the room to show me exactly what was happening in real time, ensuring I understood the situation fully. This is a refreshing contrast to other clinics, where they often take your pet to another room and return with a generic "everything's fine" update. The staff at VEG genuinely care about the well-being of the pets they treat, and it shows in every interaction. This level of compassion and professionalism was especially appreciated after a frustrating experience at SAGE, where they misplaced my carrier and then implied I wanted to take someone else's property--despite paying $4,000 for their services. If VEG had a more extensive oncology department, it would truly be the perfect place for specialized care. Evidently I am not the only person who feels this place is by far the best for vet care. I brought my dog, a Labrador Retriever, in because he was very lethargic and making wincing sounds - totally like the bouncy, happy dog he is usually. As I came to the door a young lady greeted me and asked me what was wrong. She signed us in, had me sit on a lovely bench seat, offered me coffee or water and said to get her if we needed anything. Within a few minutes the vet came over, Dr. Ogg, and she examined Buddy in the most tender but thorough manner. Buddy was never uncomfortable or upset. The vet techs who drew blood did so with such kindness, Buddy didn't even know he had blood drawn. After the diagnosis and meds we were sent home but with reassurances to contact them if he didn't begin to be better. Honestly, I felt they treated my dog as if it were their own. Believe me, this is truly the most outstanding animal care facility I have ever been to.Thank you so much for the wonderful care you gave to my dog. read more

I brought my 9-year-old dog to VEG after noticing some rapid and concerning changes. They got us in immediately, helped us bring her in from the car, and quickly began evaluating her. Within minutes she had an ultrasound and the doctor was already talking me through possible options. What ended up being the worst day of my life happened there, but I'm incredibly grateful we were at VEG. They gave us a private room, made sure my dog was comfortable, and consistently checked in on me throughout the entire process. The care and compassion from the staff meant everything. One of the nurses went above and beyond and brought me paw prints, nose prints, and clippings of my dog's fur before I left--something she absolutely did not have to do, but did because she could see how much I was hurting. Our doctor was also incredible--patient, kind, and understanding. While I wish I never had to be there, I'm so thankful for the care VEG provided on the hardest day of my life. read more

100%, hands down, the BEST Emergency Vet Clinic. I arrived at VEG after being turned down by 4 other Emergency Clinics for wait times over 12+ hours! VEG took in my 1.5 year old Golden Retriever (Cooper) who had been vomiting all day in immediately. After a series of x-rays it was confirmed that my pup had eaten something he shouldn't have and surgery was immediately scheduled. All staff were comforting, professional and caring. I was even allowed to stay 2 nights with my pup and held his paw through it all. During what was a very scary time, being able to be right there with my pup made the world of a difference (to both of us!). The staff made me feel at home and even took care of me (reminding me to eat and sleep!). Dr. Jason, Dr. Melissa, Morgan and all the other incredible team members (sorry I am horrible at remembering names) at VEG that took care of us - thank you, thank you, thank you. Our 9 yr old Aussie Cooper was in bad shape on a Sunday. VEG took him right in and to say they did a fantastic job is an understatement. We have been to a lot of vet clinics. This one is different. None of the, "We haven't seen your dog/Cat before so" (take a hike...) None of that. They had a crew on him within one minute of walking in the door before we even filled out any paperwork- shocking right-, it was crazy good compared to the 10 other vet clicks we have been to over the decades. I really liked the way the place is laid out- all open with the tables there in full view. One of the last places that you ever want to find yourself is at an emergency vet. It's something that strikes great fear and anxiety in most of us; I know it certainly does me. My puppy recently ate something that he shouldn't have (hair brush bristles) and I immediately rushed him to VEG - and though he appeared stable - they still took him back right away. In the meantime, the staff and techs went out of the way to make sure that I was also ok. They were so kind, calm and polite. The vet also came out and introduced herself to me and walked me through everything and was so sympathetic and wonderful. No pet parent ever wants to find themselves at the emergency vet in the middle of the night, but I could not be more thankful for VEG. From the moment we walked into the door, they worked to set us at ease and immediately took our sweet girl back for an evaluation. They explained everything along the way and were so kind and reassuring. They went out of their way to comfort us as they worked on our girl. We have had some really bad experiences with previous vets, but I cannot say enough great things about VEG. I would highly recommend them. The team here is absolutely amazing. I brought my dog in very sick, and the moment we arrived, they immediately called a doctor to check on her. Unfortunately had to come here recently with my sister's cat who was very ill, and everyone here was amazing. They are all so kind, full of compassion and great at what they do! They offered for us to stay with our cat and did everything they could to make her comfortable.
