I have unfortunately been to several emergency veterinary clinics through the years and this was by far the best experience I've had. It is NEVER pleasant and this was my first time as the parent of a pet with an emergency, as opposed to just a family member, and also my first time caring for a cat, and the staff made me feel so safe and welcome, validated and not judged in my initial panicked state and my emotions throughout the visit. Being able to stay with my pet through 95% of the visit in a private room was an unexpected but great experience. I was kept updated through the long waits, which goes a long way in staying patient in these situations, and the care that I as the human parent received made the experience as painless as possible. Dr. Brittney Nguyen was amazing with both my cat, who is usually very picky about new people but loved Dr. Nguyen by the time we left, but me and my family as well. She was kind and understanding, kept us updated throughout the visit, explained everything very well, answered all my questions patiently, and was generally the best doctor and advocate for my pet that I could have asked for. We are so thankful for VEG. Our 13 year old boy Gunnar was such an important part of our family and we had all the intentions of having someone come to the house for our final goodbye so it could be as peaceful as possible. But when the dreaded morning came we knew it was about that time, I frantically called VEG and was immediately connected to a doctor who was so genuinely empathetic and comforting I decided to just bring him in. We were immediately met with the entire staff stepping into action to take tests but also showering our boy with all the love as they confirmed our fears. They made him as comfortable as possible and told us we could have as much time as we needed allowing for us to pick up our kids from school to say their goodbyes. We were put in a room that was warm and quiet w dimmed lighting and he was so content. After we said our goodbye they made sure to include extra paw prints for our 2 kids to have one each. We are so thankful that he had such a peaceful departure and we owe that all to everyone at VEG. We picked up his ashes today and found a surprise "nose print" along with his paw prints. My 1 month blue merle puppy went in because she was having issues with eating and breathing she was their not even 2 hours with a breathing supporter and the doctors were telling us to put her down and she was going to die ! We refused and took are puppy home it's been two weeks since she's been home and she's back to normal! Words can not express how grateful I am that such a veterinary group exists in my home town. They truly are here for you. We had gone before for my English Pointer and they helped us manage the issue when we couldn't get into see our regular vet. We had no one to turn to and they were there. This time was huge as our boy now was on the decline. He had a seizure at 10 PM and they guided us through the whole trauma including putting our dear boy to sleep with dignity and grace. I was alone when the seizure happened. They took my call and let me talk with the vet there. The vet talked me through what she could. But did say I should get my dear boy in. I appreciate the vet talking to me on the phone as I was freaked out trying to figure out at 10 PM what to do as again I am alone. I got my daughter to drive home as she lives an hour way then we loaded our boy to head to VEG. They honored our wish to help us get him home so we could put him to sleep at home. However, once we got home our boy was getting worse. Where they helped us in all ways was to say we are here for you. Call. We did and they got us through it but we also knew we may have to return. Our boys symptoms were worsening where we knew we couldn't make him suffer more through the wee early hours so back we went. They guided us to a private quiet room where we were able to honor and love our boy one last time where he was no longer suffering. The biggest gratitude I feel with VEG is that they are there for you. By far the best experience we've had taking our pup, Zuki, to the emergency vet (which unfortunately we've had to do many times). Everyone is so compassionate and friendly. We love the transparency and the fact that we were able to stay with Zuki the entire time. Dr. Alex and team made us feel comfortable throughout by explaining everything step by step along the way. They also showed such empathy towards Zuki, who is super nervous and insecure, and did their best to make sure she was comfortable as well. I called the next day to address some concerns about our her behavior and was able to speak directly with a doctor, which has not been my experience elsewhere. I would highly recommend to anyone in need of emergency vet services. Although it's a bit of a trek for us, this is my first choice if we have an emergency again. read more

i took my little dog in for an ear infection, she is only 17 lbs and very sweet. They sedated her without telling me and did not discuss the cost with me before treatment, very frustrating, and now one month later she has another ear infection and their attitude for followup is horrible, not any compensation for being there one month earlier or help about why so many ear infections. This place has a ton of 5 star ratings and I can see why! I had to bring my dog in because she had vomited twice and wasn't acting like her usual self. Before coming in, I had called and spoken to the receptionist who quickly passed me on to the vet on the phone. It was such quick and efficient service. They decided it was worth a visit to bring my dog in. Once we arrived, we were checked in and within a couple minutes of sitting down, one of their vets came by to ask me some questions and examine my dog. They could tell that my dog was very nervous so they completely took their time and they were SO sweet to her, to make her as comfortable as possible. They take the time to speak, ask questions, let you ask questions, and explain things in a way where you don't feel rushed at all. They also are not pushy to do unnecessary tests, they want what's best for your dog depending on their symptoms or situation. Another thing that I appreciated was how transparent they were about the pricing of things. They give you time to think about what services you would like performed and they don't try to push you to run any extra tests. They truly do their best to inform you first, and they let you make the decision! There was also a nurse who came by to check vitals and she was also so kind and caring with my nervous girl! Every person that I interacted with during my short visit was helpful, friendly, and caring. You can tell that they love the animals and love what they do. Close to a month ago, I had to transport my son's snake to VEG due to a fire in his apartment complex. His snake suffered from some injuries due to the fire. Upon arrival we received the best care for his snake. The staff there immediately tended to Versace. I've never experienced such caring individuals before. They made us feel comfortable and safe. This is the best 24 hour/emergency vet I've been to. On Friday night our little dog got a cut while wrestling with our big dog and she needed stitches. Our normal vet recommended this VEG and I am so glad they did. When you arrive they have someone come and check our your pet right away. Some places if it's not an emergency makes you wait forever before someone even looks at your pet (I once had to wait over 6 hours for an emergency vet to tell me they thought everything was fine and sent me home). Once they assess your pet, they give you a plan on what they think the best path forward is, they send you a proposal of costs, and then give you an idea of how long wait time is. They whole team is great, and so kind. I had questions post our visit and they were great to answer quickly via email. I wish they could be our normal vet, but honestly I am so glad this place exists for emergencies or after hours issues. read more

I have a 4.5 year old German short hair pointer. I called yesterday because I noticed that her eyes were closing and going in and out. I knew something was off as she wasn't acting like herself. I got there and they took us in right away. The doctor I saw yesterday was very thorough and did so many eye tests as well as checked my dogs ears as I told them I think she has an ear infection. Turns out my dog had a bad ear infection that was causing her to eyes to close. With the proper care and tests and antibiotics my dog is on she is back to her normal self today. read more

Dug was having an emergency ear infection; symptoms included disorientation, circling, head tilt, and circling eyes. No other ER was available after hours but were referred to VEG. When calling, we spoke directly to one of their vets and we're advised to come right away. I was expecting hours long wait and sitting in a waiting room. The team was kind, empathetic, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind! We we triaged, examined, and discharged in under an hour! Plus we never left Dug's side and we're hanging out in treatment with the rest of the patients. When I arrived, they took me & my pup right into their beautiful, open exam area (and they didn't demand payment ahead of time, as most ERs do!). Within a couple of minutes, we were taken into a private exam room. The Dr. was very kind with my pup and after taking his vitals & my information on the issue, she took the necessary steps, without pushing unnecessary tests, to determine the issue. She thoroughly explained her findings with me and made sure that I understood what was happening and what to expect. We were provided with a diagnosis & follow up instructions. The facility is completely open and pet parents are able to remain with their owners/caregivers throughout their exam. It is very efficient, clean and the entire staff was outstanding! Looks like a cult... feels like a cult... probably is one with the red shoes and red fleece jackets. Lots of high tech and very high bills with not so high quality vets. You want to have a VEG on every block like a Starbucks you need to send your child vets back to school. Unbelievable incompetence. I brought a feral cat in there to get checked out because she was loosing hair. I was charged $900 for flea meds and a blood workup. I asked all the vets surrounding the cat if she is spayed. They said no and sent me home. 3 months later I capture the cat again and take her to get spayed at a real vet. This is not an easy task. While the cat is under anesthesia they discover she is already spayed and ear tipped. So your wonderful vets missed this?!?!?! read more

Our care team was fantastic! This was our first visit to this clinic. Although my cat's medical situation wasn't an emergency, she did need an abdominal ultrasound, and I was relieved to learn this clinic offers this procedure. My cat becomes very stressed in unfamiliar places and around strangers, and can exhibit defensive behavior. The team was incredibly compassionate, patient, and gentle with her. I was so grateful to be allowed to stay with her during the procedure to try to help keep her calm. She had been sedated, but was still aware of her surroundings. Special thanks to Dr. Hayley Bernal (intake vet), Dr. Eryn Del Monte (radiologist), nurse Anise, and assistant Morgan. The staff at reception were also very friendly and welcoming. It is a very busy emergency clinic, but we never felt rushed. They provided a complete explanation of the findings and answered all questions. This was the most amazing experience I have ever had in terms of veterinary care. I have been to so many and they are all the same except for this God Sent of a place. The space is huge and wide open, Doctors everywhere and everyone else working there are so extremely intelligent and know their craft. I witnessed a dog die on the table which was very traumatic but there were people asking me if I wanted to move and just concerned souls everywhere. They all took turns doing chest compressions for literally 20 min before they called the time of death. They have an enclosed waiting room as well with coffee and cookies. This place was amazing. They never once mentioned the price of anything and the first thing they did was pull out the sonogram. That's unheard of, every other vet will send you on your way if you have no financial resources. They don't care if your dog is going to die. I will never take my animals any where else. I cannot say enough good things about VEG!!! I have never had to use them, but had heard great things, when my Pug woke up at 3AM unable to really breath. I took him here, Dr. Kate and team got right to work, and within 90 minutes we were on our way home with meds and instructions. Unfortunately, the meds did not work and Monday afternoon it was time to say good bye to my puggers. He had a seizure, I called VEG just to talk through what was happening and Dr Melissa was so good at walking me through options, expectations, etc and when we got there to say good bye to him the experiencing was beyond comforting. Took us right back into a comfortable room, walked us through what was going to happen, gave us ample time to say good, and then did everything quickly to put him at peace. They, as a team, are phenomenal and although we don't like to think our pets would need an emergency vet, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this amazing group! read more

I couldn't be more thankful to the amazing doctors and staff at VEG. My dog began throwing up profusely and refusing to eat. I was in a panic and I immediately called and was met with kindness. I was nervous about bringing her in since I didn't think she did well with people and other dogs. They immediately said that they could meet us at my car and help us get into a room to help ensure she was comfortable and not bothered. I cannot emphasize enough how kind and empathetic the staff was to our situation. I was a mess but they kept reassuring me they would do everything they could to help. My dog had an obstruction in her intestines that initially was believed to need surgery and I was preparing myself for her to go under. But thank goodness for the care and love they gave her and after spending the night and with constant care, she was able to pass everything and avoid getting major surgery. They even got a room ready for me to sleep in overnight since I expressed that I could not leave my dog and wanted to stay with her during the whole process. She was able to sleep with me on the bed throughout the night which eased my heart and she was frequently checked by the vet techs. They were absolutely amazing with her and they truly made us feel so cared for and welcomed. They also helped me to realize that my dog IS good with people and ok with other dogs. We had many talks about things during my stay and that was one of them. Not only did they save my baby girl but they also helped me realize what needs to be done to help her even more so after she got released from the hospital. I will take all the advice they have given me and give her the best life I possibly can. I wish I would have gotten everyone's name who helped me. But thank you to Dr.Matsuo, Dr.Kate, Maddie, Marlena, and everyone else at VEG who ensured my baby girl was alright. I truly cannot thank everyone at VEG enough for all the kindness, love, and support through this difficult time. My dog had injured her leg so I called our regular vet for an appointment. There were no appointments available so they recommended VEG. We took her there and felt good about all the positive reviews. I was surprised that they had an open concept of examining your pet. Meaning everyone can see your pet being worked on. One dog was sedated and lying on their back as they were doing some kind of procedure on the dog. I had to ask for a private room so my dog would stay calm and not get agitated. The vet went over the bill and tried to charge us with unnecessary procedures. They wanted to do blood work, heart and health exams. I had to show the vet her last health exam report from our vet so those charges were deducted. They also wanted to charge us an extra $500 for a second opinion on the X-rays. Aren't you qualified to read and examine an X-ray? Finally after 2 hours of waiting they took her in for X-rays. Which they say she had to be sedated for. Ok fine. On her return they just dumped her on the concrete floor with no blankets. I had to request one. The vet finally came back after multiple times asking where she was and says she thinks she has torn her ligament. I ask you mean a TPLO surgery. She says they don't do that surgery there. Thank goodness. I've gone through the TPLO before and fortunately have a surgeon for that. Warm Springs Pet hospital in Fremont. Had to call several times to get VEG to forward medical records to WSPH. The vet reviewed the xray and confirmed she needed a TPLO. Easy as that with no additional $500 for a second opinion. I personally would not go back there. I've been to Sage and will definitely go back there again where the doctors show understanding and compassion for your pet. read more

UPDATE: After my initial review Jason reached out to me and really took the time to listen to my concerns about my experience and took it as feedback in ways they could improve. I was very surprised he took the time to reach out and try to make it right, a lot of other businesses don't make the effort. I may give them another chance in the future, however hoping I don't have the need for an ER vet for quite some time. I was really disappointed with my recent experience at VEG. This place came highly recommended to me by multiple people so maybe I just had high expectations. We had two visits back to back. Our first one being Sunday morning. They got us in pretty quickly to see my 5 month old puppy and got us into a private room so she wouldn't be stressed out. The vet came in (Dr. Courtney Dewlaney) and we went over symptoms and said she wanted to do a more in depth fecal exam to send out to a lab for testing. They gave her probiotics and fluids, we were there about 3 hours. I loved that dr, she was very thorough in explaining everything and answering questions however no pricing was ever given to me so I was a bit surprised when I went to check out and it was $929. It definitely would have been helpful to have the cost gone over with me before they did anything. Fast forward to our second visit here, the following day on Monday. We show up and are put in a large community type room with other dogs and cats. I was a bit surprised since I didn't notice that room before. I know they were busy however this room gave my puppy so much more anxiety. We were seen by Dr. Michael Michael and he said he wanted to do a urine test to test for a UTI and an in house fecal exam (the results from the day before would take a few days). So he brings me containers. Few mins later i saw him pass by and asked if that was enough of a urine sample. He said yes and walked away, didn't take the containers. He proceeded to come in that room multiple times talking to other people and completely ignore us, keeping his head turned not making eye contact. Finally after an hour i went up front and gave them the samples. We continued to wait... now 3 hours later i finally asked what was going on.. I was told it was a simple 10 minute test and thats all we were waiting for. Whoever was at the desk told me they would ask the Dr and have him talk to me. When he came he said ours was the next test they were doing and he hasn't gotten to eat dinner because its been so busy (because i made a comment about being there over 3 hours and having nothing to eat). Another 30 mins goes by and nothing. I asked again. Finally the dr comes to talk to me and tells me their system is "glitching" and not showing the results. At this point we've been there 4 hours. I said to just give us antibiotics and fluids and let us know when the results come in. I know they were busy but being completely ignored by this Dr and sitting there for 4 hours for what seemed like a simple urine test was extremely frustrating. So fast forward to today, a week after our initial visit. Still no test results for the in depth fecal. So I call them and ask. Whoever answered put me on hold then comes back and says oh yea the results are in and shows no parasites but there was bacteria that would need to be treated with antibiotics. Ummm ok??? Why was I not called and notified of this?? With all of the 5 star reviews and recommendations I expected better care and very disappointed. I only gave two stars because the vet and tech the first time we went were very nice and thorough. Not a good first experience. read more

First timer to VEG and I am beyond impressed with how kind and caring the staff is. The doctor and vet tech were out of this world, and my dog gave them plenty of kisses to say thank you. The only thing I'd warn people about is, if you're sensitive to seeing dogs sick or in pain, ask for a private room. There was a dog next to me in (what seemed to be) severe distress. The staff was on top of it, but I barely made it to the private room before I embarrassed myself and proceeded to cry for most of the visit. They were incredibly accommodating when they realized I wasn't handling it well, though. I just wouldn't want to go through that again if I didn't have to. Hopefully I won't need them again anytime soon, but I'll be a happy return dog mom if we do. read more

Had another very good experience yesterday 04/21/2025 with VEG. I found the remains of a juggling sack in my back yard. Not knowing which of my 2 GSD's had eaten it I called and asked about bringing them in. I was sent a text to sign in before I arrived. Greeted quickly and for lack of a better way of putting it given a place in line, they were quite busy on this day. It was only a few minutes before they were talking to me to clarify what had happened. The options for treatment were discussed and a plan was agreed on. Things went well and I took them home with instructions on what to watch for. I know people some times complain about the cost of VEG and the wait which when you are worried about your pet can be painfully long no mater how fast they react. The cost must be accepted your bill go towards keeping their doors open 24/7 so that we have the ability to get these life saving services when ever they are needed. read more

There are pros and cons to this place. I have been there 3-4 times with my cats. The pros are i have never had to wait that long and they are nice. The cons are, it depends on the vet you get. I took one cat in with a respiratory infection. I know my cats very well and the symptoms they get. The vet said, "Well it could be allergies so let's try an inhaler." I knew it wasn't allergies and sure enough i was right. The second time i took another cat in with a respiratory infection that was affecting his eye which was very goopy, runny etc. The vet gave him no medicine except eye drops and said it would resolve on its own. I told her he needed oral antibiotics and she said he didn't need them and that it would resolve on its own. The eye drops made his eye very red and inflamed. Using common sense, i stopped using them after one day. I called VEG, told them the problem and they told me to keep using them. I again used my common sense realizing they were causing some kind of reaction. ( This was later comfirmed with my regular vet that he had prob had an allergic reaction to them). I took this cat back to VEG a day later and saw another vet there and described the situation. I basically said, " Look, i know my cat and this will not clear up without an oral antibiotic." She prescribed one and he was markedly improved in two days. Had i listened to the first vet, he prob would have greatly worsened or ended up with pneumonia. So depending on which vet you get, this place can be a good experience or a bad one. I trust my gut if sonething doesn't feel right and i advocate for my pet. And i know in the future if i have to, i will go to another emergency clinic if i don't feel that what they are telling me makes sense. read more

Thank you to Dr. Chuck Kalb and his staff at VEG! After my pug got a tiny piece of tree bark stuck in his eye (ah!!), I called around and around for a vet that could help him out ASAP. After 9+ calls and feeling helpless, I'm happy I contacted VEG who was able to squeeze Gus in. Dr. Kalb was so gentle with Gus' (my pug) eye and removed a hidden piece of bark with ease; Gus felt immediately better. Hopefully we won't have any more emergencies, but if we do- I know where I'm going to take Gus. read more

Updated review. I am pleased to say my issues were handled. I received a very nice call from Kevin the director of the hospital and he made it clear that they were going to make things right and was apologetic about some of the confusion and mix ups that happened with me. I believe what he said that they will learn from all input and make sure to do things differently and let everyone know. He also offered me a substantial credit for my bill to be fair and that was important to me. I have had issues with emergency veterinarian places before and complained but never has anyone reach out to me and want to make things right. So I feel happy about the outcome. I believe in second chances when people try so I am happy to say I would give this place another shot. Hopefully I won't have any sick furbabys but if I do I will still consider VEG. We needed to have our Aussie seen quickly and the wait at VAC in SL was at least 6 hours so we decided to check out the Veterinary Emergency Group known as VEG, which came highly recommended on YELP. The reviews are correct. The vets and staff at VEG are very knowledgeable, quickly came out to get more information on what was going on. They were all kind and caring and we were in and out in less than 2 hours. Dr. Sullenberg texted the next day to check on how our dog was doing. We now highly recommend them as well. read more

We took our dog Lola to our vet because she topped eating, was not able to walk, barking weird, and salivating a lot. They orginally thought she could have ate something toxic. After a bunch of test, all her blood work was coming out normal. Because Lola was not stable by the end of the day and since our vet is not a 24hr clinic they reffered us to VEG for our dog to stay over night and try to diagnose what was wrong. While she was there, she had 3 set of xrays, lab work, and 2 ultrasounds to try to figure what was happening. The first ultrasound was done the night we arrived but were asked to do another one the following day since the doctor who had done the 1st one was NOT a specialist, thats what we were told. After 24hrs they could not determine there was anything inside that looked concerning. In fact, the doctor told us it wouldn't be a good idea to do surgery since they don't see anything concerning and could just make things worse for her walking issue. They recommended we take her home since she was keeping her food down and the only big concern was to follow up with a neurologist about her walking if it did not improve with rest. After we took her home we contacted the office about multiple concerns (Lola had not popped since we brought her home and when she finally did poop, she pooped black). Each time we contacted them, it took FOREVER to get a reply. We had to keep texting/calling to follow up. When the front desk passed us to the doctor to address our concern, it seemed like they were annoyed we were calling. 2 days after leaving VEG, Lola pooped black. We texted the office a picture and asked if we should be concerned. We had to call the office again, as no one followed up with us. We were told to bring her in but because we were not satisfied with how things went there we felt uncomfortable bringing her back to VEG.That afternoon Lola vomitted her food, saliva and was choking and couldn't breathe. We had to rush her to a different emergency center close to our home. They had to do lab work, xrays, ultrasound all over again. Within 3 hours they were able to diagnose her and tell us what the exact issue for all her problems were. She had a foreign object in her stomach, aspiration pneumonia, and disc disease. All of which this vet office did not find, yet we paid thousands for them to send us home as if there wasn't a problem. We went to the office to get answers about what was going on with our dog and we were given no real answers to her issues. We wasted money doing xrays and ultrasounds to not get any clear answers. The doctor's don't seem to care or pay much attention when we would bring something up. They wouldn't look into it and would just brush off our concerns. We did all the tests they were recommending and trusted them with Lola. We spoke to Jason, the Medical Director, about our experience and requested a refund from the office for missing what was wrong internally with Lola. Our new emergency clinic was able to determine just by the ultrasound, her stomach did not look normal. We spent over 4k at the office, which is what we could have spent in the surgery she needed all along. We wasted time and money with the office, putting our dog at risk by sending her home not knowing what was to come. After speaking with the Jason, he agreed that his doctors should have pushed for surgery more verbally but they failed to. He admitted this during our phone call. They offered to give us back 1k which doesn't even cover half of what we spent at their office, plus all the new vet bills we had at the new emergency center we had to take her to. Ultimately, Lola ended up needing to be put down which was a very hard decision for us. After surgery at the other vet, she was not able to breathe again on her own. This could have been prevented if VEG was actually competent and diagnosed her correctly. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! There are so many more emergency vet clinics that are better qualified then VEG. They are money hungry and have no empathy towards you or your pets! read more
