This place was amazing, 100% worth the drive from San Jose. After calling around to multiple 24 hr places and finding none in San Jose with rabbit savy vets, it was a huge relief to find VEG. Every single employee I came in contact with was super friendly. It gave me such piece of mind that I was never separated from my rabbit the entire time I was there. Dr. Sullenberger is a serious Rockstar with a wide range of knowledge. While I was waiting, I saw her treat a guinea pig, a German Shepard and a water monitor. I came in for my Bearded Dragon, Gabriel. Everyone that worked with him (and those who didn't) were so kind, took time to make sure he was comfortable, taken care of, as well as making sure I was comfortable in-between tests being done. I was there for several hours (as one does at any ER, human or animal) and everyone there were so accommodating and caring. Dr. Kate had to be the one to give me some very hard to hear news; which was delivered with such compassion and made sure I was understanding the information she was trying to pass on to me, about my dearest Gabriel. She went through step by step of the process and results of each test Gabriel had done, including showing me the different Xrays that were done and explaining what it all ment. Our third time at VEG and each time the vets and staff have handled our needs well and with compassion. Our most recent visit was very sad, as we needed to put our elderly dog down at a time when our regular vet was closed & it had become urgent, our dog was suffering. They did a great job and helped us through it with compassion and empathy. They have a special room for that, and it was set up thoughtfully and warmly, with a couch etc. to allow you to spend time with your pet & say goodbye. They explained the process clearly & dealt with us so kindly, even though we were sobbing the entire time. The only part that I disliked was that the vet, understandably, had to ask questions as part of the intake bc it's an emergency vet & they don't know us or our dog. Some of the questions were along the lines of, what else have you tried (to keep the dog alive)? Have you tried this, or that? Felt like the vet was suggesting we hadn't done everything possible for our dog or should stop now & do more medical intervention... even though that wasn't right for our dog. He was near the end of his lifespan, had been degenerating for months and we'd tried everything we could with our regular vet for months prior. I do understand they need to ask to ensure there is sufficient cause for putting the dog down & they don't know the history- it's just such an awful time to probe the family (with the kids present) that way when we were already so extremely stressed and sad. So I'd recommend if you do need to use Veg for end of life services- it can be a good experience, and overall we were glad we went to Veg, but come prepared with the details of what's wrong and what you did to treat it so you don't feel like I did, racking my brain to try & recall details from months prior during a time of extreme stress. read more

Sadly... 6 stars wasn't an option Took my poor 15 year old Shih Tzu to see this clinic today. First, it's a large open clinic with lots of space and clean as can be. Secondly, the staff were amazing and supportive. We brought our boy in for hip pain and not weight bearing on hind leg. The doctor came out and listened intently. She understood we were in human healthcare and spoke to us in terms we understood. We expected our poor baby would need to be put to sleep. Veterinary Emergency Group is a wonderful place to take your pet of any kind when they are in distress and need medical care urgently. They are very caring and allow you to stay with your pet as long as you want, rather than leaving you outside like most places have to do now. We very recently had to take our 3 yr old girl kitty Luna to VEG when her seizure disorder worsened greatly and existing medications were no longer helping. She had to stay overnight for intensive care and they tried so hard to help her. Unfortunately, even with everything they did for her, she was getting worse and worse and had suffered neurological damage, so we had to make the devastating decision to let her go (we are still grieving and missing her so much). They did not pressure us and were very kind about everything, and let us spend as much time as we wanted with her in a special quiet room for this purpose, both before and after her passing. We opted for individual cremation and received her remains within a week in a beautiful little box - we were surprised by also receiving a paw print ceramic ornament which we will treasure as well. This has been a heartbreaking loss especially since Luna was so young, but the compassion of the caregivers there meant a great deal and made it a little easier to cope. We noticed during the time we were there that they had a variety of animals that came in for care (cats, dogs, rabbits, and more). We would highly recommend VEG. read more

Last weekend, I took my dog to another vet hospital. Unfortunately, they couldn't handle overnight care so she was sent to VEG for that. The next day I moved her to VEG. The care she was getting was so much better at VEG. The doctors kept me updated after every test, discussed her treatment plan with me and were fully transparent. I was blown away by the staff at his location. In my time of panic and confusion (1st time experiencing an emergency with my 10 yr old dog) they were a god send. Lydia greeted me and held the door open as I carried my dog in. She asked if I needed help and they actually let me inside with her. They let me look through the window as she was taking the X-rays . Dr Chuck was so patient and knowledgeable. For the first time in 10 years a vet has actually sat down to show me X-rays and blood results and explain what everything meant. I was asked if I wanted water, or a blanket to warm me up(I was there around 12:30am so it was getting cold out) the facility was super clean and organized . They even had an extended waiting room with coffee, dog treats , couches , tv and toys for kids. It is very evident that they care about their patients, and try to make what would be a horrific time in a Pet lovers life a little less complicated. I just wish every vet was like this. read more

On 08/07 My dog was attacked and needed stitches. The minimum wait for our local emergency clinics was 10-12 hours. We called VEG and we're immediately given a link to an online registration to speed up the process that my husband could fill out while I drove. When got there, we were actually allowed to come in. We were greeted warmly and someone immediately came out to take vital sings. We were immediately told the number of patients ahead of us and clearly communicated that critical cases going in to the clinic will have priority. The clinic was so busy that night, but communication from front end staff (blond long haired person and a blue/green haired person. I'm sorry I didn't get their names but their contribution to this fantastic experience was none the less!). frequent about delays with continued apologies for delays. When it was our turn, Dr Lauren and Christopher G were outstanding. Both were kind and compassionate and were very upfront and clear about what they needed to do for him. I was allowed to come back to their beautifully arranged open concept exam stations. They really worked so well together, like they've been working together for years. Dr Lauren quickly stitched my boy up and we were on our way home. I'd like to add a few more details that were just icing on the cake in our decision to go nowhere else from now on. All staff demonstrated genuine care and concern for you and your baby, whatever the species. They also took their time, seemed to really care, and usually ended with an anecdote about their personal pets and/or similar situations with their own pets. This place is horrible, they need to be shut down ! Due to negligence. I will not bring my pet here ever again in the future. I rather drive further and get the correct help for my pets. I had a bad gut feeling after leaving this place with my kitten but I trusted them because I thought that they were PROFESSIONALS. 2 days later my kitten is dead because they failed to give him the proper care and treatment that he needed they played it off as if his sickness was no big deal he'd make a full recovery with the antibiotics that were given to him. Reading the HORRIBLE reviews from other people about this place makes me sick. No one deserves to be treated the way they treat their paying customers and their pets. My puppy, all of a sudden after a morning walk, became wobbly and lethargic. I thought it might be something serious like a viral infection, so I called Veterinary Emergency Group and was able to speak with a veterinarian right away. I explained the symptoms and because of the sudden occurrence the veterinarian believed that my puppy might have eaten some marijuana. That was surprising to me. I don't use pot but people in the neighborhood do so it seemed possible that that's what happened during the walk. He suggested waiting for it to pass, but if things got worse that I could bring her in at any time. Lo and behold, after about 8 hours my puppy was back to her normal, energetic self. I woke up to my dog vomiting and bloody diarrhea all over the house. Called most emergency vets in the area all said 4-6 hour wait at least. So I took a chance on the highly rated business. My boy was seen within MINUTES of walking in and describing his symptoms. Also very fairly priced for an emergency option (it was at least half of what I expected to pay). They did not force a bunch of unnecessary tests to up the bill and very prompt phone availability for all types of concerns after discharge. I'm so thankful there is finally an emergency vet that are willing to see birds. Finding a great avian vet isn't easy, and finding an ER that sees birds is even harder. My vet's office was closed today and I had an emergency with one of my birds. They were so polite over the phone and very welcoming and when I got there. They looked over my bird and were able to put my mind at ease about her well being. Words cannot convey the ultimate gratitude that I have for the ENTIRE staff at the San Ramon, CA VEG. I walked in at 3:30am with (2) dogs that needed urgent care because they had both consumed half of an 8ft garland of yarn balls. Having to decide on a life saving procedure for one fur baby is more than enough but having to do it for two is suffocating because of how your breath gets taken away at the reality of it all. We were literally there from Monday morning at 3:30 am until 10:30 pm Monday evening. Because of being at the hospital for ~ 19 hours, we were familiar with all shifts and the changing of staff and through it all, the care and consideration we were given the ENTIRE time was seamless. Each of the staff members had their duties to carry out and each staff member seemed to know what the other was doing at all times making for a very smooth operation. Additionally, we were consistently asked if we needed anything--drink, chair, food. More importantly, we were constantly reassured that our fur babies were in good hands. There is nothing better than to have empathetic people surrounding you in times of extreme duress and the staff at VEG are so good at what they do for their clients and their patients. I will always recommend VEG to anyone whose pet needs critical care and who needs understanding and reassurance for those tough decisions which ultimately need to be made. What can I say about this veterinary emergency group? Honestly the most hard-working, caring people I've ever met. I came in with my dog that had a seizure and luckily she had a seizure while we were there and they took care of it right away. I was able to stay the whole night with my dog because I wanted to take her to UC Davis the next day for a MRI. These people care about your animals and will use their best ability to care for them. I came upon an injured possum and there was no place to take it on a Sunday morning. I was advised by the local animal control to take it here and it's because the Lindsey Wildlife Museum will be here. Had I not taken this critter here it would have died on the side of the road. This hospital acted fast. They gave it a pain injection and then it went with the team from LWM. This hospital is great. It's very clean. The people are very friendly and understanding. my small puppy likes to eat things he shouldn't. last week it was a paper clip, today a rubber door stop. I became alarmed after he threw up multiple times and he pooped clear liquid with blood. I called a place near my house, was told they were full. I called another place , was told it was a 4 hour wait. my vet suggested VEG. I got here, waited about 10 seconds to be taken back, saw Dr. Jason in about 5 minutes. I was with my puppy the whole time. the doc explained that his system was probably shocked. I asked about x-rays, he said it wasn't necessary. he was very reassuring. my bb was given SQ fluids and anti nausea meds and we were in and out within an hour. this will be my new emergency go to for all of my dogs. read more

I read so many great things about VEG. I didn't hesitate to bring my mothers dog there to help him pass after he began to decline rapidly. I called and asked if I needed an appointment. They said no but asked for my name to send confirmation. When I entered I was greeted by two friendly attendants at the front counter. I was escorted in to a private room. It has a lovely couch, chocolates, and dog biscuits. I was asked a few times if I'd like water or coffee. After some time two woman came in the room and said they would insert a catheter in his vein. I told them I wasn't new to this and I knew what was to be expected. I told them he was fragile and very thin, mere 3lbs and likely would be very difficult to find a vein to insert a catheter. I sat there and watched as one of them shaved his arm and cut him saying, "it was a razor burn from thin skin", which is totally unacceptable - it was a cut and he bled! She then tried to insert the needle, wrap up his little arm 3 times with tape that she was having difficulty managing, it seemed like an eternity. Then try to insert saline in to the port which turned out to be a no-go. They had to try again in his right arm. The other woman took over and managed to get the needle in his other little arm, wrapped up with tape and so forth, leaving the incorrect catheter in his left arm instead of taking it out. The whole time I'm watching this unfold I was horror and I wanted to scream because I realized the first person was learning/practicing this procedure on my dog who was already suffering. This was not the time nor the place to use my dog as learning tool, especially one so fragile and tiny who was at and end of his life - - it was just so wrong! And this will be instilled in my memory forever. It was a horrible experience!! The doctor came in and did two injections. It was so fast. He was very kind and I appreciate that. I give him 5 stars. I was given a little succulent plant which I thought was nice. The bill came to over $780, that just about floored me. Just for an injection and his ashes. I've lost many pets over the years so watching my pet being euthanized was not new to me. My biggest regret was not being able to make an appointment for vet to come to my home as I usually have done. It would have been much more dignified and affordable. I was so distraught upon leaving I don't even recall getting an itemized receipt or any idea when I'll receive his ashes - I was told nothing. I won't be back. read more

Five stars because it is now a common experience that it is impossible to make a timely appointment for a sick animal with a regular vet. Perhaps because everyone got a pet during Covid. The Bay Area needs more honest decent veterinarians. Woodminister, VCA, and SPCA vet had no appointments for weeks thus it is now The Way to be sent to an emergency vet if your animal is in question of needing immediate attention. Expect to wait all night, pay quadruple the price, and be grateful that it wasn't worse. Five stars for that! I was recently on a vet odyssey with my dog who had enlarging mass that needed a reasonably timely examination. Unfortunately all of the vets that I have ever seen my dog in the past were booked solid many weeks/ months in advance, therefore I was relegated to seeing an emergency vet, thus, wait for hours in the hospital with my dog and pay the insane emergency vet fees. This is a brand new place that was recommended by another emergency vet who had a 6 hour wait for care. The VEG staff are new, cheerful, and very kind. The design of the place is one vast space where all the staff and animals are in one space. I can see that that is a good idea for social distancing but I question how safe the animals feel. It was a bit sad to see a wall of post-surgery dogs recouping in a cage with IV's hanging off the bars, and a cat on a stainless steel car receive treatment in the midst of customers, animals, and staff moving about. Most vets are cozy spaces that have separate entrances for cats and dogs, which makes me wonder about the level of stress the pet clients might have in this environmental design. Four hours later and nearly $800 lighter I was relieved to find out that the same thing I had paid $27 to find out a week earlier at a pet vet clinic. Grateful that I did not have to leave him there or have any procedure done , although like I said they are competent and kind, the space itself is rather sci fi. read more
