"I don't know where to begin about how incredible my experience was with the team at Veg. They saw me right away, took fabulous care of Pumpkin and were very attentive and informative. AND they did not charge me for my visit! AND they gave me kitten food to take home. AND I asked them if I could give them each a hug. We brought our 18-year-old dog in around 4 AM after she had been lethargic and regurgitating for hours. She was barely responsive, and we were honestly terrified. From the moment we arrived, the staff was ready for us--someone was at the door waiting, which immediately put us at ease. The facility is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The open-concept emergency area lets you stay with your pet the entire time, which meant everything to us. Sadly, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to put our sweet girl down after 18 years. But I can't say enough about how the staff handled everything. Every single person was kind, compassionate, and professional. We were there from 4 AM until about 2 PM, and not once did we feel rushed. They gave us the time, space, and support we needed to be with her through her final moments, and treated her with so much love and dignity. They also showed the same care to my mom and me during one of the hardest days of our lives. Easy 5 stars. I hope I never need emergency services again, but if I do, I would come back here without hesitation. TY to all the staff.

These people saved my cat's life and the gratitude I have for them is hard to put into words. My cat, Virgil, who's a year and a half old, suddenly started showing signs of straining in the litter box one Friday afternoon. We have two set up for our cats, and he'd go from one to the other, visibly straining but not producing anything. But he was silent, and I only happened to notice it because I saw how he kept going back and forth between the front room to the boxes and back. I immediately called our vet, who told me to take him to an ER right away because it was possible he was experiencing a urinary blockage, which is deadly in male cats. They recommended VEG. We took him in and they wasted no time taking us into a back room to start examining him and getting all the background info they needed. They call this an open concept hospital, meaning that while they have private exam rooms, all of the procedures happen out in the open in the middle of their airy, large space. I had mixed feelings about it, plus I'm not sure how the animals feel about it when they're already distressed, but I also won't act like I know more than the experts. They also have rooms to accommodate pet owners who would like to stay overnight with their animals so they can get some sleep. This facility is open 24/7. Virgil did have a urinary blockage and needed to stay for two nights to have his bladder drained, be put on antibiotics, and observed to make sure he could pass urine on his own. Luckily he was resilient and made it out ok, but it was a very scary weekend that could've ended differently if I didn't notice and act as fast as I did. The doctors were extremely communicative, calling and texting throughout the days and nights to update us. One minor critique of this is that their text service is one-way only, meaning you can't reply via text, you can only receive them. I do think that should be updated. Virgil received the best possible care and he's still here because of them. Now, I'm not going to pretend this wasn't one of the biggest expenses we've ever had -- it was over $7000 in the end, much of that due to the cost of the overnight stays. It is insane how much pet care costs, and the amount due was eye watering. I can't recommend enough that every pet owner get pet insurance because you never know when something like this is going to happen. Most of the cost was covered by our insurance, but we still had to pay $3000 out of pocket. I'm not sure what the cost would've been at another hospital, but I can at least say the doctor was extremely thorough in explaining what every line item on the bill was and why they needed to do every test and procedure they did. Virgil is home and made a great recovery, and we're extremely thankful for everything VEG did to help him and to educate us on how to try to prevent this from happening again if at all possible. Veterinary Emergency Group in San Ramon saved our senior cat's life. We rushed in during the middle of the night with Kiba suffering from a life-threatening urinary blockage. It was one of the most frightening experiences our family has ever faced. The team responded immediately with urgency and professionalism, but what truly stood out was their compassion. The receptionist staff was incredible. They handled all payment and administrative details with patience and clarity while we were exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed. They made a chaotic moment feel organized and manageable. Dr. Caitlyn Wilson took care of Kiba through the night and was exceptional. She explained everything thoroughly, answered every question, and treated both our cat and our family with genuine empathy. This was our first emergency of this magnitude, and she guided us with steady confidence. Nurse Gina provided overnight care and was outstanding. She is warm, deeply caring, and a wealth of knowledge. Knowing she was caring for our cat gave us peace during an incredibly stressful night. When Dr. Casa took over the next phase of care, she continued that same level of excellence. She was attentive, professional, and compassionate. The continuity of care was seamless, and we always felt our cat was in capable hands. They also worked with our budget and helped us navigate options without pressure. Five stars is not enough. This team gave us our cat back.

It might make me emotional even writing this review, but VEG saved our kitty's life. Two weeks ago he escaped the house and fell out of a tree; we came rushing up to VEG with a barely breathing, bleeding, banged up little guy. I had called ahead and multiple staff came rushing out to get him, and went to work immediately. Based on what we were being told, we thought he wouldn't make it. Pneumothorax, fever, broken leg, sky high lactate levels, the whole nine yards. We had the kids say goodbye and everything. But between amazing care at VEG, a femur surgery at another clinic we were referred to, and a stubborn will to live, he's still with us. I don't think I was in my right mind that night, but thinking back I appreciated everything from the open floor plan where we had access to him at all times, staff constantly checking on us and giving us updates (both treatment and financial status), a comfortable waiting room, giving our boys quarters for the stuffy machine, and just the general understanding of the staff. I think it's a given emergency care is pricey, so we had that in mind at all times, and they were able to accommodate the options we chose. Special thanks to Dr Sana and truly everyone else we interacted with that night.

I can't thank VEG enough for the care they gave my cat during an emergency visit. He had an open wound, and the moment we walked in, we were triaged within minutes. What impressed me most was that the actual doctor was already in the room--I didn't have to repeat the story a dozen times to different people, which is such a relief in a stressful situation. From there, the vet techs came in to check vitals, and before I knew it, we were in the procedure area. I was shocked (in a good way!) that I was allowed to stay and watch--it really gave me peace of mind to see everything happening in real time. Dr. Nina Matsuo and Nurse/RVT Destiny were absolutely wonderful. Kind, patient, and so sweet--they walked me through every step and made sure I understood what was happening. Their compassion really made a scary situation so much easier to handle. While I truly hope I never have to step foot in an emergency vet again, VEG will always be the first place I think of if I ever do. To Dr. Matsuo, Nurse Destiny, and the entire VEG team--thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my sweet boy and for treating both of us with so much kindness. I will never forget the way you turned such a frightening moment into one filled with care and reassurance.

it's already so hard saying goodbye to our beloved pets. thankfully, the staff at VEG made that process as smooth as it could be, given the circumstances. if you need empathy, patience and knowledgable staff from the first call to exiting the facility, this is your place. the receptionist was super kind, offering cookies and warm/cold temp water when i was falling apart and stressed out. while also being efficient in getting my info/the details of my chinchilla's condition over to the doctors. the doctors were very honest and caring of my chinchilla. it's hard enough finding an exotic animal vet near where i am but thankfully they have colleagues with more experience with chinchillas/rodents. they were very sweet to my baby chester. they also have a space with separate rooms with cozy lighting, tissues and a comfy couch, for people to say goodbye to their pets. as i was saying bye to him, they provided different options for cremation and offered to take fur clippings for me. they were very respectful when taking him away because they wrapped him in the blanket that i had brought him in. i requested his whiskers, his tail bristles, and fur from his leg area. they went the extra mile as they captured his white chest fur, plenty of his long whiskers and the softest part of his fur which belonged to the top of his head (that i had kissed prior to letting him go) ultimately, they brought clarity in a situation that i hadn't prepared for and instead of me scrambling in confusion, they were able to guide me through. shoutout to the staff at VEG!

Our vet is closed on weekends, and the emergency vet near us was slammed - so we found ourselves here after my dog, Rocky, woke up this morning shaking and refusing to jump or run (very unusual for him). We were seen at VEG within 10 minutes and seen by a vet, then given a treatment plan with an estimated cost. The X-rays took forever, but it's an emergency vet so that's somewhat expected. Amazing service, compassionate care, well worth the extra drive. They even have a play area for kids and a Keurig with free pods!

My dog ate raisins and I called my go-to vet. They recommended VEG. When I arrived, they were so kind and welcoming. Their customer service is top tier. I'm so impressed with their whole set up. They quickly eased my anxiety by having Dr. Nina Matsuo talk to me. I was given some options and we went through with their suggestions. Everything turned out fine. I couldn't ask for a better experience at a Vet ER. I told my partner that our dog has a better emergency room than we do!

Took my little frenchie girl Aiko this morning at 5:30 am because she was breaking out with hives. I'm from Hayward so it was a drive out. I just picked the first one on yelp that was open with good reviews. When I walked in I was like wow this is the nicest looking vet ER I've ever seen! The girl checking me in was super nice and let us sit on the couch comfortably while she took our information. The doctor and all the vet techs were all very sweet and came up to give pets to Aiko. There was no line when I got there which was amazing. I loved the open concept but could imagine how it might be hectic with multiple dogs there at the same time. Thanks for taking care of aiko today!

We unexpectedly found ourselves at VEG ER for Pets from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. with our kitty, and I truly can't say enough good things about the care we received. She's already on the road to recovery thanks to their incredible team. The staff was compassionate, attentive, and amazing during a very stressful night. Highly recommend keeping them in mind if you ever find yourself needing an emergency vet.

On Christmas weekend, my dog was attacked by another dog. I called VEG and they answered on the first ring and said to come right in. The staff were ALL amazing and everyone pitched in to help. You're greeted immediately and told the approximate wait time (I was seen much quicker than they estimated). I was offered cookies, water and a blanket for my dog. Nicest group of professionals I've met in a long time. The care and kindness they were showing everyone was just incredible. I highly recommend this practice if your pet has an emergency. I'm really impressed with the care my dog received while being here. When I realized my dog had a blocked I started looking at vets to take him to. He's a trickier case because of how many surgeries he's previously had. I saw the amazing reviews and decided that It was worth a shot to bring him here. Marley previously went to a vet in Santa Cruz for the same issue a few years prior. My main issue was the lack of communication of the Santa Cruz vet, so I didn't want to take him there again. Not only did VEG communicate, they truly did go above and beyond. I love how I was able to spend time with him whenever I wanted when he was hospitalized. The crew y'all have is amazing. read more

I've waited awhile to post this review just to grieve and wanted the chance to not let my emotions take over. In February, we brought my cat in. We noticed he was acting off for 2-3 days and when we brought him in he was going into kidney failure. Listen, Ollie's always been a sick boy. He's had issues with anxiety.. amongst other things, since he was a kitten. We even had him medicated for the last two years on anxiety meds daily because he would rip out his own hair. Maybe he wasn't a fighter and maybe if we would've brought him in a day sooner the outcome would've been different but we ended up having to put him down. Now, when we first got there- they were ON TOP of everything. Very quick, we were seen almost immediately and they got to work on him with test etc. Now here's where my issues come into play, when they were tending to him the vet broke down the cost within let's say 30-45 minutes of him being there. He was going to need to stay there for three days, so the charges were over 10k.. yea ten thousand dollars. Oh my god?? That ticket was enough to make me literally puke. I was freaking out because, i obviously didn't have that much money BUT I talked to the vet and she said if I could get 6k she could work with me on the rest. So, I did. ( which was kind, and I appreciate that) I was very willing to pretty much do anything I could honestly.. ollie was my baby. Anyway, the vet I talked to that night assured me that if he got this treatment he would be okay. Maybe she was trying to be nice, I was bawling. But nonetheless, she assured me it would be okay and that it was common enough and blah blah. We were there all night, I didn't leave till 6:30am with the intention to go home, shower and go back later in the afternoon after work. We got a call in the afternoon saying even if we spent a million dollars there was no saving him. So, my issue was I feel like the vet was not transparent with me and If she would've told me of that outcome I probably could've saved myself a debt of 4,500 ( we were refunded for the days ollie did not stay). When we got to the vet 30 minutes after we were called, ollie was Awful, he looked so much worse than when we brought up. I think that was just because of the drugs they had him on but im not really sure. The vet we met with to put ollie to sleep seemed very nice, she seemed to feel so sorry for us. To make a long story short, this place is insanely expensive..most places are but ten thousand for three days of treatment.... I think that would be hard for most people. But I just wish they were more transparent with me. I did not expect this. When I left that morning, I felt like I was going to get my baby back and it would be okay. I learned that pet insurance is a much and a no joke, we have an insurance plan with banfeild pet hospital currently for another 5 months with our other cat.. after that's up we will be getting a different plan and with a different vet that does surgeries and emergencies. Which im now just encouraging for everyone. read more

My cat had large wound and started bleeding. Normally we go to Bishop Ranch Veterinary center, but they were busy and suggested for us to go to VEG. We were seen fairly quick and doctor seem knowledgeable. However we were not comfortable with nurse and some chares we felt were unfair ( fixed by administration). I had a spectacular experience with VEG recently. This was my first trip there and I can't say enough about how well our dog and we were treated. I called VEG at 1:30am with my concern about my dog and the woman who answered the phone put a vet on to consult with me right away. The vet told us to bring our dog and when we arrived we were immediately greeted by the staff and brought back to the examining area. The vet with able to come talk with us within five minutes even though she had other situations she was dealing with. She was not rushed and explained everything she could offer and the costs involved. Both the vet and the vet assistants were warm, kind, and were concerned for how all of us were doing. We left with medications that helped our dog get out of pain and ultimately treat the infection he had developed. I have been a dog parent my whole life and had many emergency vet visits. This was BY FAR the best experience I have ever had and I strongly recommend VEG if you are experiencing a veterinary emergency in the area. The model of emergency veterinary they have put in place is something other businesses could learn a great deal from. read more

I never write Yelp reviews but I can't say enough good things about this place. My dog needed emergency surgery and VEG was more than happy to take him in right away. Everyone there was amazing- so nice & helpful. Going to the vet (especially during COVID) sucks, you usually can't go inside and you're always left wondering what's going on. At VEG, everything is in one big room, you can see them working on the animals and they're more than happy to let you stay by your pups side the whole time. Dr. Gonzalez was amazing and kept me updated on the surgery immediately before and after. We will definitely be back here if we ever need an emergency vet again! read more

I have a very dramatic, very nervous puppy named Heidi who gets terrified at vet visits. The staff went absolutely above and beyond to try to comfort my puppy (who was definitely making their jobs more difficult!) and make it a less terrifying time for her. On a really scary night for both Heidi and I, we felt comforted by the compassion and kindness of this wonderful staff. BEST VET BY FAR! Had to bring in my French Bulldog for an ER visit. While there was an ER Vet nearby, given the Yelp reviews, I gave it a shot and drove an extra 15 minutes to seek care here and I am glad I did. Called prior to walking in, was sent a check in link via text message where I provided all pertinent information then made my way to the vet. Check in was quick and easy and was sat with a doctor within 5 minutes. The staff was very kind, supportive, and answered any questions I had. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Went to Sage in concord initially waited 2 hours to be seen by the vet tech who then told me that it was going to be another 5-6 hours before a vet could see my cat. So I left, found this place online and it was great from start to finish. As soon as I go there they knew her name i registered her online, I was seen quick and she was treated and I was sent home with her within 2 hours. We brought our sick Samoyed in late Friday night and the staff was professional, caring, and talented. The vets told us that this is their favorite place they've worked because they treat their people well. We're so appreciative that a business like this exists and will do the 45 min drive from San Francisco again if we need to because the experience was so much better than any emergency vet in the city. read more

This place is so unprofessional. First I brought my dog there because my friend said they were good and it was cheap or free when she took her dog there. I told them I didn't have a lot of money from the beginning. They couldn't even take my dogs temp. The vet said let me work up an estimate and I'll get back to you. They left us in the room for two hrs. Then my friend went out there and they said oh we texted you the estimate on your phone. It was for 3,000 dollars. I was like omg. Then they gave me a bill for 400 dollars for the visit that night. They didn't even do anything for my dog. Why is some dogs visits free and some 400 dollars??? Sounds like a scam if you ask me. read more

We ended up at VEG after discovering mysteriously bloody paws at bedtime. It is scary when your pet is suffering. I didn't have an appointment and showed up in a panic. I was very impressed by the kindness and patience of the greeter and doctor who worked with us. They were very transparent about the cost, and very fair. Honestly for what should have been a very stressful night, it was nothing but calming. We rushed our dog in and were seen immediately and after 15 minutes of being seen they got him all set up with X-rays they were so on top of everything and explained Everything to us in ways we could understand and were patient when we had questions or concerns. They act so fast the second they see the problem and get it solved and the atmosphere is not like a typical vet. It's calming in there you can see everything and talk to anyone at anytime. They are so caring and not only with the dogs but with their owners too. I had asked a question while they were prepping things for surgery and we were able to help where we were allowed to, to help our pet feel most comfortable. There are not enough nice words I could use to describe this place. They let me come and go as I please to visit my dog and even let me lay in the kennel with him. They were so attentive and patient. I just would recommend this place to anyone who will listen. The atmosphere the staff everyone is so kind and it's so clean in there. Our dog was so well taken care of I felt at ease leaving when I couldn't be there with him and when I came back I was just able to go in his area and hang out. While it's no fun event taking your dog to the emergency vet, if you have to this is the place to go. read more

This place is the bomb ! They take care of your pet & you. Very reassuring and so glad I took my 1 year old pup here. I still have to pick her up tomorrow but they give you the option to stay and constantly check on your pet while they are under care. We love this center. We have come here for several of our animals, but most recently I was so impressed with how caring they were towards the end of our cat's life. She had been on chemo pills for lymphoma for 2 years, and was doing well until she took a very quick turn for the worse. We brought her in to VEG for IV fluids because she was very clearly dehydrated. We were just trying to make her comfortable for as long as possible. We clearly came at a very busy time, but they recognized how uncomfortable she was and were so quick to send the doctor out for the quick exam needed and they were happy to teach us how to give her the fluids twice a day and provided enough supplies to do this for the days she had left. They got us in and out quickly despite how busy they were, and the doctor and her assistant were so sympathetic and sweet with her. We have never had anything but the best experience here. And they treat all kinds of animals, and do surgeries, it would be a fascinating place to do an emergency vet show! I would definitely watch. We're so grateful to have this center nearby. read more

I have had to bring my dog Toph in a few times and although no one ever wants to have to bring their dog to the emergency vet, this place made the entire process very easy. The staff was amazing! Toph suffers from pretty bad anxiety and vet visits are extremely stressful for her but the the vets and technicians here were all so attentive and patient with her. The facility itself is very clean and well kept. I love that I was able to stay with my dog throughout the entire process and they have complimentary tea and coffee as well as homemade chocolate chip cookies! Although I do not wish to have to bring my dog back to the emergency room, if I ever do have to I will always return here. read more

There's a simple reason that VEG has all these 5 star reviews... they nail every aspect of taking care of your pets and therefore, you too, as the nervous pet parent. I was panicking after my cat, Olive, stopped eating much, if anything, on a Friday. It was Sunday and I didn't think we could wait to see her regular vet. They answered the phone quickly, sent me a pre-check-in link, and then checked us in when I arrived. We were put in a quiet waiting room, where coffee, tea, bottled water, and human and pet cookies were. Dr. Perkins walked in, sat on the floor, and took a look at Olive. She took a detailed history and there was someone with her who took notes on a computer. This way, the doctor was focused on Olive and me. Then vet techs/nurses came to the waiting room, sat on the floor, and took Olive's blood and urine in front of me. No back room. I was able to be there with her the entire time. After the results came back (they have labs on-site), Dr. Perkins came back in the room and went over everything, including recommendations for further care at a specialty practice. Olive need to be admitted overnight and get IV fluids. I was told multiple times to stay as long as I wanted. I was next to Olive as they inserted the IV. Then we were moved into a very large cage that had a clean cat bed with sides, roof, and walls. Towels lined the cage. Litter box was setup. Eventually, I left. The next morning, Dr. Perkins called me and she already left a message with a specialty practice and arranged to get Olive the tests she needed and where she would have access to specialists (otherwise, it could take much too long to get Olive the care she needed). When there was a hiccup at the new facility, Dr. Perkins picked up the phone to help. When I had questions, they were answered. Everything the specialist told me aligned with what Dr. Perkins suspected. Every step along the way, was met with understanding, compassion, professionalism, and a very clear love of their patients. One of the most remarkable aspects is that even after discharge from VEG, the timeliness of the response time from Dr. Perkins was crazy fast. I'm not a frequent reviewer... only if my experience was above and beyond outstanding. Do not hesitate to head to VEG if your pet needs care emergently. read more

This week I had to take in my rescue a little brindle elderly pup named Samantha for strained breathing as she could not breath. After many months of repeated vet visits to a so called holistic vet, her health issues only worsened. Leading her to not being able to breathe . She was finally treated with proper protocol and effective vet care diagnosis and medication after physically being rejected and turned away by these so called holistic vets who literally pretended to not see or notice her pain. Acting as if her obvious chest and body contractions were not noticeable. Her symptoms were lethargy, depression, and stiff tail pointed down and strained breathing with strange contractions in her chest and abdomen. All wrote off as simple explanation of pain due to arthritis. I tried 2 different holistic vets and they both turned away a dog who can't breathe without even treating the obvious symptoms of not being able to breathe. Luckily my friend told me about veg some years ago as they saved her German sh life and her vet happened to be the daughter of famous pilot sully. So I remembered that and drove straight there! I'm really grateful for Dr Jason and Dr Alex for literally saving my rescue pups life! She's had a hard life from her past of being abused and neglected and being found running loose in the streets , pregnant. I really feel I need to make sure she is comfortable in her elderly years. I think we need to be very careful with who we trust in caring for these animals and I feel safe at VEG because a lot of these small boutique type vets don't have certain access to important medications and or testing facilities but pretend they do, So choose wisely! read more

Our dog was in pain, and couldn't move. We waited in one emergency vet for over 12 hours without being seen, and another told me I would be waiting overnight, and I'd have to sleep in their parking lot or else they would destroy our pet as abandoned. I heard about VEG, and traveled there. They got her in quickly, diagnosed the problem and fixed her up. The wait was minimal. They were recommend by Bishop Ranch veterinary, which I love. The nurse and doctor saw my dog with in 20 minutes, very reasonable. The doctor gave a very reasonable treatment that I was happy with. It required a blood test before the medication could be given. I paid for everything upfront, and told it would be a moment. I waited in the lobby for an hour. Staff came and got coffee and tea for themselves, chatted with each other. Nothing was told on why it was taken so long. They were avoiding eye contract, the woman sitting next with me leaned over and said, "do you think they forgot about us?". I finally said something when someone was getting coffee again...and she goes have you gotten blood taken? How do you not know that? It was additional 40 minutes to get the meds. Very honestly I don't know if I would have gotten the meds if I had known it would be 100 minutes, but I couldn't leave because I paid upfront. They don't seem to manage there staffing and communication well. I won't be back. It was a pretty poor experience. read more

Took my dog here recently because she was sneezing out of control! I knew a foxtail probably got up her nose. Everyone was so friendly at VEG and were quick to get her in. The doctor went through all the steps in finding the foxtail and getting it out. They also have a nice waiting room with a coffee machine, fresh baked cookies, and WiFi. My son's parakeet, Percy had renal disease for about a year and was in renal failure. It was time to put him down. I called 6 or 7 different emergency vets and regular vets but none of them would euthanize a parakeet. I was referred to Veterinary Emergency Group by a vet in Lafayette. VEG was able to see us immediately. While putting your pet to sleep is a heart wrenching experience, they really helped us get through it. They showed great compassion and let us decide if we wanted to hold Percy during the injections so he would be more comfortable. I love the care, the cleanliness, the customer service. Almost everything except for the intense markup of over the counter meds. Like eye drops and critical care. Both for for $15 at the local Walgreens yet the markup here is $40-$60. With the emergency charge already at $175 which I'm reluctant but still happy to pay for the great care (Berkeley Cat and Dog charged $85 when they did emergency) I can't understand the one thing. $60 for $15 drugstore eye drops. I don't know how to feel about that. But thank you earnestly for taking care of my pets! read more

I am so grateful for VEG. Unfortunately, my beloved dog spent two nights in their facility due to congestive heart failure. To say I was a mess is an understatement, but I was blown away by the professionalism, kindness and empathy provided by the staff - everyone from the front desk folks to the vet techs, to the doctors, were amazing. They saw us within minutes of us walking in and quickly had a game plan. On the second day they were even able to get a cardiologist from out of the area to come and do an echo and assess our dog and next steps. I'm convinced what without VEG my dog would not have made it. Her prognosis is not good long term, but she is stabilized and on proper medications. I cannot recommend this place enough and want to give a shout out to Missie at the front desk (so kind and caring to me and all the others I've seen her interact with), the sweet vet techs who treat your dog like they would their own, the amazing doctors especially Dr. Maria (you were so kind), Dr. Casa (sorry for all my tears) and everyone else. I don't know how these VEG folks stay so upbeat, positive and calm in the face of what is a constant barrage of life and death situations...but however they do it, THANK YOU! I sincerely hope VEG management appreciates and recognizes their employees for all that they do. read more

This is by far the best emergency care provider we've been to for our dog . Everyone here is exceptionally patient, sweet and kind to the animals. The open floor plan is the best feature.. You can stay with your pet the entire time while they're being treated and when/if they need hospitalization regular visits are allowed. It's quite a big facility and can accommodate multiple clients at the same time. The doctors are so competent and patient ( especially with first time dog parents like us). We had a foreign object obstruction in the intestine and our fur baby required a surgery. We went in at 3am and the night shift staff made us feel so comfortable.. they answered all our questions, even explained the x-rays to us and gave us the option to choose how we wanted to proceed. Our little one was hospitalized for 24 hours and Dr. Baker took care of him in the morning. He too, like everyone else here, knew exactly what he had to do and was always ready to explain things and recovery process to us. I literally cannot thank the staff enough! This is such a hard time for all pretty owners when their precious little ones are in pain... And it's so so important for us to know they are well cared for. This place deserves 5 stars. I'm sorry I can't remember the names of the staff... But there were 3 ladies ( 1 doc and 2 nurses I think) at 3 am on Jan 14 who were epic! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I actually texted all of my friends after taking my cats here because I needed them to know of this amazing staff and service. I've taken two senior cats here in the last month and driven over 40 minutes each way to get great care with no wait. My local vet is still doing curbside drop off and I just feel like I haven't been able to really communicate with her about my cats. VEG helped me put one cat down had finally met the end in her 18th year. They had a private room for me and let me take my time saying goodbye to her. I was able to hold her while they put her down peacefully. They also took care of all the arrangements for her remains for a private cremation. It was the most awful thing I've had to do, but VEG made it better. I even appreciated the book of love notes from all the owners that have had to go through the same thing I have. In a strange way, an emergency vet is the best place to do this because on the same day I said goodbye to my cat that I've had since college, there was a vet right next to us welcoming puppies into the world. Three weeks later I had to bring my other 18-year-old cat in whom is just on his last life. He wasn't quite ready yet, but VEG clearly explained all of my options, all of the potential consequences, and really help me make a decision that was right for my cat and for my family. I really appreciated that they understood I knew I was getting close to the end, but I wanted to try to keep as many good days as possible. They didn't try to talk me into over treating my cat, or trying to cure her kidney disease, or her cancer. She's an 18-year-old cat and they were able to help me put together a treatment plan that kept him eating and energized for a little while longer. I guess poor Newton has one more life left. :) I find their price is very reasonable and actually comparable to my normal vet. At this point, I would rather drive my cat all the way to San Ramon for any treatment, or check up. They worked really well with chewy when I had to re-order some meds, and the vet checked on me several times via text the week after she saw Newton. I just don't know how to say thank you for giving me this extra time with Newton and for giving me such a peaceful experience with the cat I had to put down. I just wish I could do more than write a review. read more

Despite their best efforts, her veterinarian was unable to determine the cause because they didn't have the specialized equipment needed to perform an endoscopy and take a closer look. Unfortunately, the earliest appointment available at SAGE was a week away, which I completely understood given the demand for specialty care. In the meantime, Peaches needed immediate attention, so I took her to an emergency veterinary hospital in Fresno. There, they sedated her and discovered a foxtail deeply embedded in her vaginal wall. Although they removed it, they couldn't say with certainty that it was the sole cause of her symptoms and strongly recommended that we keep our appointment with the internist at SAGE. I'll admit that after reading some of the reviews online, I was worried that I might be pressured into unnecessary procedures or expensive treatments. I couldn't have been more wrong. From the moment we arrived, I was impressed. SAGE truly operates like a full-service hospital, with the equipment and specialists needed to address complex medical issues all under one roof. Most importantly, the care and professionalism we received were exceptional. Dr. Miller was absolutely amazing. He came into the room already familiar with Peaches' medical history and had clearly taken the time to thoroughly review her records before meeting us. That level of preparation immediately put me at ease. After examining Peaches, Dr. Miller explained that she appeared to be in very good health. He discussed the option of performing additional diagnostic procedures to investigate further and provided a detailed cost estimate. While the procedure was expensive, it was understandable given its complexity. What I appreciated most was his honesty. He told us that, based on her exam and improvement, he didn't feel additional procedures were necessary at that time. Instead, he recommended monitoring her closely and reassured us that if the bleeding returned, we could contact him directly and he would make himself available. His honesty, transparency, and genuine concern for Peaches meant so much to me. Rather than pushing unnecessary testing, he helped us make an informed decision that was truly in our dog's best interest. We also discussed some ongoing digestive issues Peaches has experienced over the years. Dr. Miller offered helpful recommendations, sent us home with food samples to try, and even offered to write a prescription should we decide to switch her diet. As pet parents, we all want veterinarians who are knowledgeable, compassionate, and honest. Dr. Miller and the entire team at SAGE exceeded my expectations in every way. * We rushed our dog to Sage Emergency in Dublin after he choked on a dental treat that got stuck…read more The X-rays showed that it was lodged at the junction between his esophagus and stomach. Dr. Beth Lieblick assessed everything quickly and chose the least invasive option first. After anesthesia, she was able to push the blockage down into his stomach so he could digest it naturally instead of going straight to a major surgery. Our dog stayed overnight for monitoring and came home the next morning safe and stable. Communication was clear the entire time, and the team was professional, calm, and genuinely kind during a very stressful situation. * In terms of cost, this is emergency care, so it is expensive. The initial diagnostic alone was around 1300 dollars. With bloodwork, X rays, anesthesia, the procedure, overnight monitoring, and medications, the estimate initially went up to 14000 dollars. The final total ended up being about 6600 dollars after adjustments. Even knowing emergency care costs more, it is still a financial shock when you are facing a possible life threatening situation for a family member. * We are giving 4 stars. The doctor and team absolutely deserve recognition for their professionalism and friendliness. The only reason we are taking off one star is the price. While we understand emergency care is costly, the numbers can feel overwhelming. Our advice is to get pet insurance if possible. If a bill in the thousands or potentially over ten thousand would be difficult, it is worth researching emergency options ahead of time. For us, what mattered most is that our family member came home safe.

I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.

We played around with the numbers to help us fit it within an easier budget. Veronica was very thorough, patient and informative. My baby was sick so we had to do something. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Within a matter of a short period, diagnostics came in with not so good news that left us with two options. Neither of which I was prepared for. After hearing the extent of my babies sickness, it was evident we needed to set her free. As painful as those words and that decision was, it had to be done. We drove back to that hospital to be with our baby. Sage has a special room just for the letting go process. Although we were not ready to say goodbye, we appreciated the quick return on labs and such, that gave us the answers needed to make the right decision for our girl. If you have been trying and struggling to piecemeal answers for your ill pet, I'd suggest going to this one stop shop. They have the doctors, staff, equipment and specialists on hand to get you the answers your pet and your family deserves. We love you Tabitha and miss you greatly. Instead of acting quickly, the receptionist was incredibly rude and told me to wait for a nurse just to decide "if they could stay or not." I ended up waiting for over 40 minutes. While I was waiting, three other clients walked in, and all of their animals were taken back to see a nurse immediately. When I questioned the staff about this, they claimed the other animals were emergencies. How are 4 starved and dehydrated kittens not considered an emergency? What makes this worse is that this place is supposed to work with local animal shelters, yet they couldn't care less about these rescue animals when it actually mattered. It felt like because these were rescues and I wasn't a standard high-paying client, they didn't want to bother helping them. A veterinary hospital should care about saving animal lives, regardless of where they came from. The lack of care, terrible communication, and rude behavior at the front desk are completely unacceptable. Avoid this place if you actually have a real emergency.

THE FIRST TEMPERATURE CHECK CAUSED SUDDEN DEATH On June 22, we had the traumatic experience of losing our cherished guinea pig under the care of VEG San Ramon. We hold Rhiannon Desideri and Nurse Tye Laver primarily responsible for this grievous event. The unprofessionalism, lack of transparency, and sheer negligence displayed during our visit were deeply unsettling. Upon arrival, our guinea pig was diagnosed with lung issues and recommended an X-ray. Despite the clear distress and vulnerability of our pet, he was subjected to sedation twice. When Nurse Tye faced difficulties with the initial X-ray, Rhiannon Desideri rejected to provide necessary assistant and let Nurse Tye "just give another sedation" without adequately addressing the potential risks. The facilities, too, are ill-equipped to handle pets like ours; our guinea pig was placed in proximity to predators, and all animals and equipment were housed within a single room. The troubling events further unfolded when Tye handled our guinea pig roughly. Despite our guinea pig's crucial need to remain inside the oxygen box and without any prior communication of her intentions, she abruptly grabbed our guinea pig by his upper body, forcing him out of the oxygen box. Her strong grip made our guinea pig scream twice distressingly. When we tried to intervene, Tye used her shoulder to obstruct us from reaching our guinea pig and rebuffed our offer to administer the medication ourselves. She quickly moved our guinea pig to her workspace, ignoring the clear distress it caused our already stressed and weakened pet. Tye hastily administered three oral doses to our guinea pig before enlisting the help of another nurse for a temperature check. In a distressing sequence of events, our guinea pig was forcibly being in a belly up position while one nurse held him upper body and the other rapidly inserted the thermometer into his rectum. No prior explanation or indication of the invasive nature of this temperature check was given to us. Our guinea pig then peed and died while the thermometer was still inside his body, within a few hours after arriving at VEG, instead of what they suggested at the beginning - 3-day hospitalization. The subsequent attempt at CPR was fraught with further errors, including their inability to find suitable equipment in a timely manner. While the entire process was heart-wrenching for us, Rhiannon's actions post the incident, including downplaying critical events in her report, were particularly jarring. We were contacted by Jason Dombrosky, who identified himself as the owner, after we reached out to them seeking clarity on important details including the rush of performing an invasive temperature check immediately after forcefully feeding three antibiotics shots within a few minutes, which ultimately caused the sudden death of our pet. Instead of providing clear answers, Jason Dombrosky focused on deflecting blame and emphasizing medical jargon and non of our questions got answered. As pet owners, we sought compassion, understanding, and clarity, but were met with defensive responses. This facility showed a stark lack of care, professionalism, and expertise when handling our beloved pet. The upper management lacks basic veterinary ethics. We trusted VEG San Ramon with our pet's life and have been left utterly devastated by the outcomes of their negligent practices. I urge pet owners to consider our experience before seeking care here and hope no one else has to witness the unnecessary loss of their pet due to medical malpractice. We have submitted our complaints to the California Veterinary Medical Board. Regardless of the outcome, we determine to pursue justice. read more

Life-Saving Care for My Frenchie - Amazing Staff and Compassionate Service I cannot thank the team at Pleasant Hill Emergency Vet and San Ramon Emergency Vet enough for saving my dog Frenchie. After he had his teeth cleaned, things took a terrifying turn when he developed pneumonia and had to be placed on an oxygen machine. He was very sick and, at one point, I honestly thought I was going to lose him. For over five days, Frenchie fought for his life, and it was touch-and-go several times. The level of care, professionalism, and compassion from the staff at both clinics was absolutely incredible. Dr. Dombrowsky and the entire team at Pleasant Hill Emergency Vet, along with the staff at San Ramon Emergency Vet, were amazing. They treated Frenchie like family, and I could see just how much they genuinely cared for him. Their kindness, attention to detail, and constant updates gave me hope even in the most uncertain moments. They went above and beyond to ensure Frenchie's comfort and recovery. I also want to specifically mention Dr. Casa at the San Ramon office, who was truly exceptional. She was not only compassionate but also incredibly honest and transparent about Frenchie's health. Her words, "Take it one hour at a time," really helped me stay grounded during such a stressful period. Her approach was exactly what we needed, and I'm so grateful for her care. After Frenchie was stable and back home, I went back to Pleasant Hill Emergency Vet a couple of days later with him in my arms. The staff was so excited to see that Frenchie had pulled through and was doing well. It was such a touching moment and really showed how much they care about the animals they treat. I am forever grateful to Dr. Dombrowsky, Dr. Casa, and the wonderful team at both of these emergency vet clinics. The love, kindness, and dedication they showed throughout this stressful and emotional time made all the difference. I don't even write reviews but I had to come on here and write a review because my heart aches for my dead cat every single day. My 1 year old cat was having a hard time breathing and all they did was put him in an oxygen cage and give him an antibiotic that made him sleepy. The whole night they kept walking past him ignoring him but gave their full undivided attention to the dogs that came in playing with them giving them love and attention. Then when it came to my cat there was a complete change in energy (clear bias) Finally gave him an x-ray and said he has pneumonia. Prescribed him with an antibiotic and said he's good to go. Literally the next day he collapsed had foam coming out of his nose and experienced the most painful passing Brought his body back and another doctor "suspected" heart failure and he "should've" stayed at the hospital that night to be monitored. That's two different opinions from two different doctors that work under the same building so be cautious that your care will vary depending on the doctor you have. Even realizing they messed up and offered to cremate him for free as an "apology" for the miscalculation This place is a joke. Expect to pay 1k minimum just to pay for medicine, hours in an oxygen tank and a foot in the behind out the door. Don't be fooled by the ratings. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! VEG San Ramon staff provides Excellent care. Each time that I have came to VEG San Ramon, I have received great customer service and extraordinary fur baby/pet care. On 6/8/2024, I brought my puppy KoKo in to be seen and per usual, we left feeling much better. VEG San Ramon doctors, the front desk staff and all of the care staff are AHHHHMAZING! The staff work together like an award winning orchestra, which is extraordinary for an emergency center. I drive from Stockton to VEG San Ramon without hesitation and with confidence knowing that my fur babies will be in great hands and that VEG staff will do everything possible to identify and resolve their health concern. As a pet parent, great veterinary care is extremely important. The front desk staff promptly emails invoices and medical records to pet parents and they are extremely sympathetic and understanding. I appreciate the staff at VEG San Ramon and their dedication to uphold VEG's mission statement. The staff radiate a calm and soothing vibe, which is beneficial in an emergency situation. I recently brought my small dog (3.5 lbs) to VEG after she ingested a raisin, which can be extremely toxic (although the vet did provide reassurance that this is rare. I wasn't willing to risk the health of my beloved pet). From the moment we walked in, the care and compassion we received were outstanding, not just for my dog, but for me as well. The staff was kind, patient, and attentive, clearly understanding how stressful this situation was. I was impressed by how they got down on the floor with the animals, meeting them at their level to provide comfort. They even tried a couple of different foods to find something my very picky dog would eat before safely inducing vomiting to help her expel the raisin and avoid toxin absorption. Their calm, compassionate approach immediately put me at ease. They explained everything thoroughly, cared for my dog as if she were their own, and also checked in on my well-being throughout the process. We had an amazing experience at VEG in San Ramon after bringing our little one in after midnight. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted right away and made to feel welcome during a very stressful situation. This is not your ordinary veterinary visit. The open layout was incredibly unique and reassuring, no hidden back rooms or closed-off areas. You can actually see the equipment, the medical teams working, and the level of care being provided in real time. It was very eye-opening and created a sense of transparency and trust that we really appreciated. The waiting area was also so thoughtful and comfortable, with coffee, tea, and cookies available for guests. The atmosphere overall felt calm, modern, and supportive rather than cold or overwhelming like many emergency clinics can feel. My experience at VEG has been exceptional, and it truly stands out compared to most other vets I've visited. While their services can be pricey, the level of care and transparency they provide is unmatched. For example, during my cat's ultrasound, they brought me into the room to show me exactly what was happening in real time, ensuring I understood the situation fully. This is a refreshing contrast to other clinics, where they often take your pet to another room and return with a generic "everything's fine" update. The staff at VEG genuinely care about the well-being of the pets they treat, and it shows in every interaction. This level of compassion and professionalism was especially appreciated after a frustrating experience at SAGE, where they misplaced my carrier and then implied I wanted to take someone else's property--despite paying $4,000 for their services. If VEG had a more extensive oncology department, it would truly be the perfect place for specialized care. Evidently I am not the only person who feels this place is by far the best for vet care. I brought my dog, a Labrador Retriever, in because he was very lethargic and making wincing sounds - totally like the bouncy, happy dog he is usually. As I came to the door a young lady greeted me and asked me what was wrong. She signed us in, had me sit on a lovely bench seat, offered me coffee or water and said to get her if we needed anything. Within a few minutes the vet came over, Dr. Ogg, and she examined Buddy in the most tender but thorough manner. Buddy was never uncomfortable or upset. The vet techs who drew blood did so with such kindness, Buddy didn't even know he had blood drawn. After the diagnosis and meds we were sent home but with reassurances to contact them if he didn't begin to be better. Honestly, I felt they treated my dog as if it were their own. Believe me, this is truly the most outstanding animal care facility I have ever been to.Thank you so much for the wonderful care you gave to my dog. read more

I brought my 9-year-old dog to VEG after noticing some rapid and concerning changes. They got us in immediately, helped us bring her in from the car, and quickly began evaluating her. Within minutes she had an ultrasound and the doctor was already talking me through possible options. What ended up being the worst day of my life happened there, but I'm incredibly grateful we were at VEG. They gave us a private room, made sure my dog was comfortable, and consistently checked in on me throughout the entire process. The care and compassion from the staff meant everything. One of the nurses went above and beyond and brought me paw prints, nose prints, and clippings of my dog's fur before I left--something she absolutely did not have to do, but did because she could see how much I was hurting. Our doctor was also incredible--patient, kind, and understanding. While I wish I never had to be there, I'm so thankful for the care VEG provided on the hardest day of my life. read more

100%, hands down, the BEST Emergency Vet Clinic. I arrived at VEG after being turned down by 4 other Emergency Clinics for wait times over 12+ hours! VEG took in my 1.5 year old Golden Retriever (Cooper) who had been vomiting all day in immediately. After a series of x-rays it was confirmed that my pup had eaten something he shouldn't have and surgery was immediately scheduled. All staff were comforting, professional and caring. I was even allowed to stay 2 nights with my pup and held his paw through it all. During what was a very scary time, being able to be right there with my pup made the world of a difference (to both of us!). The staff made me feel at home and even took care of me (reminding me to eat and sleep!). Dr. Jason, Dr. Melissa, Morgan and all the other incredible team members (sorry I am horrible at remembering names) at VEG that took care of us - thank you, thank you, thank you. Our 9 yr old Aussie Cooper was in bad shape on a Sunday. VEG took him right in and to say they did a fantastic job is an understatement. We have been to a lot of vet clinics. This one is different. None of the, "We haven't seen your dog/Cat before so" (take a hike...) None of that. They had a crew on him within one minute of walking in the door before we even filled out any paperwork- shocking right-, it was crazy good compared to the 10 other vet clicks we have been to over the decades. I really liked the way the place is laid out- all open with the tables there in full view. We stayed with Cooper the entire time and everyone can see exactly what's going on. all of the staff worked together well- Special thanks to Michaelia but everyone was great, I just didn't catch all of their names. One of the last places that you ever want to find yourself is at an emergency vet. It's something that strikes great fear and anxiety in most of us; I know it certainly does me. My puppy recently ate something that he shouldn't have (hair brush bristles) and I immediately rushed him to VEG - and though he appeared stable - they still took him back right away. In the meantime, the staff and techs went out of the way to make sure that I was also ok. They were so kind, calm and polite. The vet also came out and introduced herself to me and walked me through everything and was so sympathetic and wonderful. They let me be present for his imaging and when they had to induce vomiting - which was both a comfort to my fur baby and me. I honestly can't say enough great things about VEG. I can't express enough how amazing and accommodating VEG is they truly saved my dog's life. I've visited the Pleasant Hill location, and every experience has been exceptional. Unfortunately had to come here recently with my sister's cat who was very ill, and everyone here was amazing. They are all so kind, full of compassion and great at what they do! They offered for us to stay with our cat and did everything they could to make her comfortable.
