The care room is an open concept so you get to see what is going on with your pet if you choose to do so. Because it is walk in only, expect long wait times if there are people there already. I grew up on a ranch and my mom's best friend was our large (and small at times) animal vet so we were spoiled. Now, as an adult, I would consider myself "newer" to veterinary services/offices. Tonight we brought a chicken in. She was showing beginning signs of distress with a very enlarged crop. They had us seen right away and a vet was present less than 3 minutes in. And... at the time, they were busy. Two different doctors examined our little chickie lady. They presented us with options. They were very helpful, kind, and loving. ANGELS WORK HERE!! My leopard gecko quickly developed tail rot (a deadly issue for reptiles) and has never had any health problems in the past (so she's never been to a Vet). Scrambling to find a Vet that specialized in reptiles since time was of the essence for my gecko, I was referred to Veterinary Emergency Group through a couple standard Vet offices in the area. My husband and I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER with how the entire experience went! I first took her in to be evaluated by Dr. Kevin Baker who not only diagnosed her, sent us home with antibiotics & pain medications, but was able to determine the best steps to move forward with. He reassured me the whole way through and even spoke with many other reptile Vets that he's connected with to ensure he provided me with the best options for care/treatment. It was clear that her tail had to be removed in order to save her life - and fast. After spending a couple days looking into reptile surgeons, her future was looking very bleak since everyone either didn't perform surgeries on reptiles or, they were completely booked up for 2 months - she'd be long gone before then. Once I told Dr. Kevin Baker at Veterinary Emergency Group this news, he decided to do the surgery for her in order to save her life. He was fully transparent with us and explained that although he had never performed a surgery on a leopard gecko before, he had spent a lot of time researching/learning about it, had consulted with other reptile surgeons on the prep, surgery itself, what to expect, post-care, etc. He was well equipped to perform it and was eager to lend a helping hand! He even worked with us on getting a great price since it was his first time performing a surgery! He was able to perform on her within a couple of days and the surgery was a massive success! He also did an x-ray on her as well to confirm the cause of the tail rot (due to trauma) - she had 5 fractures in her tail cutting off the blood supply! He and his team took us from a nightmare of a situation, to an absolute miracle and we cannot thank them enough! Thanks to Dr. Baker and the team, our leopard gecko is back to her happy, healthy self and we look forward to many more years with her! I have been to several local emergency clinics over the years and after my latest experience, VEG is now my go-to. The care my pet received was excellent and timely. The staff is attentive and knowledgable and they truly care about your pet. Emergency Vet services can be expensive, but I felt that the VEG team did their best to keep costs reasonable while still hitting a high standard of care. Dr. Baker was terrific and has helped with some follow up questions afterwards, along with transition back to our reular vet. read more

Don't take your pets here if you want them to be treated as a priority and with compassion. We were told my dog need stitches in her ear within 6-12 hours from her being bite by another dog. When we arrived we were treated wonderful, told that we were going to be next to be treated. After 6 and a half hours, and got told 3 different times that a higher priority case had came in and they weren't stable and needed to be dealt with first, we left and went somewhere else. This emergency vet is a very open concept floor plan, you can see just about everything. So when I am told that there are more important case and there are animals that aren't stable but these animals are just being put into cages because there owners need to leave. It doesn't make sense. Also to be told that they run just like a hospital does, but when nurses leave and doctors leave nobody new comes on for a few hours. They are left empty handed. The nurses and assistant were absolutely AMAZING. Since it is a very open concept floor plan, we heard the nurse ask about 5 times what are we doing about the ear laceration. So for a doctor to say we have a timeline to get her ear stitches since the tissue will die, but then be told we aren't a priority doesn't make complete sense to me. I care about my dog like it's my child, if you feel the same about your animals. I recommend you DO NOT go to this vet. read more

Money & inexperience runs this place. The idea of being seen right away and being able to stay with your pet is the great appeal of this place, but there is nothing else that's great about this place. Early in 2023 my dog was not eating or drinking, and started to have very bloody diarrhea. I took him to VEG and that would be my biggest regret ever. After the first night they ran some test and said he had hemorrhagic diarrhea and that he would get better in a couple days. I trusted them and decided to keep him hospitalized there. After 2 days he hadn't gotten any better, and to make things worse, he had an AWFUL FECAL BURN on his bottom because THEY WERE NOT CLEANING HIM. I would have to visit my dog AND CLEAN HIM MYSELF when i saw how they just let him sit in his own diarrhea. My gf and i asked his doctor if we should transfer him to a specialist but they still insisted on the diagnosis and that he would get better. His day doctor and his night doctor were always saying two different things and were not consistent at all. After about 4 days of him just not getting better and VEG racking up the big bucks, we decided to pick him up and told VEG to call OakVet to tell them we are coming. After just ONE DAY at Oakvet, Bruno was running, eating, and just overall so much better. He was my Bruno boy again. OakVet went into action right away and did an endoscopy alongside another blood test. VEG had already done a blood test but must've just done a terrible job because at OakVet they were able to tell me that based off of the white blood cells in his blood test, that he could officially be diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The staff are so empathetic at Oakvet in not wanting clients to spend money if not needed and told me that he could be treated at home, it was just require a lot of work, but i was willing and couldn't hospitalize him even if i wanted to cause VEG dried up my bank account. IBD is a chronic illness so Bruno will be living with this for the rest of his life, and he has already had some minor flare ups since then, but the doctors at OakVet were able to give me life saving medication that Bruno will be on for the remainder of his life. If i kept him at VEG any longer, Bruno would probably be dead. I will end by saying that through Bruno's days at VEG, i spent a lot of hours sitting there with him and saw a lot of dogs receive good help, but they were all minor medical things like a puppy eating rocks and allergic reactions, but when it comes to major medical emergencies and illnesses, i can't safely recommend this place. No one wants to have to go to an ER vet ever. But if you are needing one, this is the one to go to. Our dog was bit by another dog at daycare and the Oakland ER we called had an 8 hour wait and recommended this one. It was worth the drive because the experience was that amazing. We got there, he was triaged and the vet checked him over. He needed to be sedated and we came at a busy time so we had to wait for a table to open up. The Dr. kept checking on us and they were right there so we never felt we were kept out of the loop. They even administered pain meds to help him while we waited. The wait room has coffee, water and cookies so that was a nice touch especially since we left the house in a rush. The facility's model is great.. you never leave your pets side. He was never separated from us, we watched the procedure and was able to hold him during blood work and injections. Every staff person we encountered was amazing. Took my rabbit Thumper there that I just recently took under my care. Staff was amazing. From the front desk employees to employees working and asking if I needed anything. Dr. Dombrosky was AMAZING. I have called VEG twice recently. I did not know that they existed until my vet told me about them. My 15 year old Miniature Dachshund hurt his back on a Friday morning. We called SAGE but they refused to see him. They said they were full and no longer have a neurosurgeon on staff anyway. Our doxie has had 2 major back surgeries at SAGE in Dublin. I had a feeling there had been a change at SAGE. I found out later that they went corporate and the specialists on staff weren't considered cost effective anymore. We resigned ourselves to the fact that he would not be seeing a neurologist and sought pain management instead. The front office staff at our vet, referred us to VEG. He said wonderful things about the staff and the vet. We called VEG and a vet talked to us. He was happy to see him and would try to treat his pain. We found a closer location for pain meds so, we didnt see the vet at VEG but we were really impressed by the courtesy of the staff and we were thankful that the vet took his time to talk to us. Today, I accidentally gave the same dog a double dose of his medication. I called my vet but had to leave a voice mail. I called VEG and a very professional and pleasant woman named Dana took my call. She asked me a few questions and then put me on a brief hold. The vet, Dr. Ogg, advised that the double medication was still within a safe limit. I hope that I don't need an emergency vet visit again but realistically, I probably will and I will be happy and confident in choosing VEG. read more

This review is for Dr. Jason. I am the kind of person who's very busy and never writes reviews. This time, I think my experience at Veterinary Emergency Group requires sharing. 1) Awesome open facility and everyone was friendly despite the stressful nature of their work. 2) I arrived with my pup with following symptoms: Vomit, Diarrhea. My pup has history of ingesting foreign objects (socks). Dr. Jason took my case and asked a few questions about history of the dog. While he was chatting with me, a nice lady who was a surgeon petted my dog and mentioned that she has the same breed at home. DR JASON, JOKED BY SAYING MY DOG MIGHT END UP ON HER TABLE TONIGHT. That was very inappropriate and insensitive from his part. I've been through a surgery process and it is not funny to me. That said, the unprofessionalism did not stop there. Knowing that my pet ingests soft objects (socks) that are invisible on x-rays, he still recommended an x-ray instead of ultra-sound as I suggested initially. I have been through this process in the past a few times already. After proceeding with an x-ray he came back to me and said he is almost sure my pup has obstruction and that there is a foreign object in his intestines. But just to make sure he will check with radiologist. The Radiologist said that the objects are bones which makes sense since my dog has raw diet. Lastly, the biggest concern for a vet when a dog is vomiting and having diarrhea is hydration. Dr. Jason never asked me about that and never offered to give my dog an injection of water under the skin ( This is a standard process in these situation ). He prescribed an anti vomit medication at least. THANK YOU His suggestions were: 1- leave the pet overnight with them 2- take dog home and comeback at 8am to check if the bones are gone. Well, I took my pup home and decided to take my pet to another place in the morning. I am waiting for results but will update this post once I have more news. I have no bad comments about the facility or the rest of the personnel (everyone else was extremely professional, thoughtful and nice). I hope Dr. Jason learns something from my experience with him. read more

Something I hoped would never happen, happened. My dog Cody of 14 years told me it was time for him to go. I heard about this place from a colleague and knew that I would be able to be with my baby the whole process through. Within minutes, we were seen and diagnosed my pup with a condition we couldn't fix and I knew the right thing to do was to let him go. The entire team here was so extremely supportive and truly showed they cared about what I was going through. They even had a special room called their "comfort room" that is set up so incredibly well. I was able to lay on a comfy chair with my pup and hold him through the whole process. I honestly couldn't have wished for a better way for things to have gone. I feel completely at peace knowing Cody is no longer in pain and was able to have my love with him during this hard time. I was recommended here by my primary vet because my dog Remi was diagnosed with Parvo and needed to be admitted to the hospital right away. From the moment we got to the here we were treated with so much care. Every single person I talked to from the receptionist to the nurses to the doctors have all been so kind, so understanding, so patient. During Remi's three night stay I would get two phone calls a day from the doctor, one in the morning and one in the evening, keeping me informed on Remi's condition. They answered all my million and one questions patiently and made me feel like they really cared. Another thing that I really like is how open it is, so you see all the doctors & nurses working on all the pets right in front of you. I would recommend this place any pet if they were to allow it. Wednesday night we had an unfortunate issue happen to our Redtail Boa. There was no vet In the San Jose at 6pm that would have taken in an exotic reptile. We called and had to hurry to San Ramon at commute time. When we arrived they checked us in and moved us to another waiting room that was a little bit quieter. The doctor came to ask what had happened. After the initial check it looked like our snake had to be put down. They then put us in an room to have some quiet time alone with our snake. The process very difficult and it took a while to get her body temperature up. During this time the doctor came in several times checking in on us. They were very helpful and compassionate in this hard time. I would like to thank Veterinary Emergency Group. You made the process a little bit easier. Great service when needed. No wait at all. Quick assessment of the problem and a cost estimate for full transparency. We were in and out in no time. However, 3 stars as the person at the reception desk was very grumpy. She saw us and started asking questions without greeting us. No smile at all. She didn't have enough patience. Later when we were checked in, we saw a white couple come in with their dog and the person at the reception was all cheerful and nice to them. It felt weird that her mood changed so quickly. But then another white couple came in and she was good with them too. Now I started feeling that this lady was being biased. We were not happy to take our dog to VEG, she's been throwing up and having bouts of diarrhea from too much training treats but our experience with this hospital made the load a little lighter for us. I like their open floor plan the most because it allowed us to stay with our dog while she waits to get treatment. Ours is a very anxious dog around people and new things so we asked to stay at the lobby instead. The staff happily obliged to our request. We were seated on the 2nd lobby right in front of the TV and the snack bar from 11:30pm to 3:30pm. When we arrived we were not the most urgent case, ours was probably the least serious case so it was understandable that our wait time was excruciatingly long. We tried to make our dog comfortable during the wait. We didnt have insurance and the initial treatment plan offered to us was just too much for us. Dr Tara Murphy helped work out an alternative plan that can address the immediate and most critical diagnostic tests. All the staff that handled us, Shella and Rachel, were kind and experienced. My dog did not flinch one bit when they drew blood and inserted the needle for hydration. They sat on the floor to be within eye level with us and our dog. They were conservative in their approach of our dog but for probably all the right reasons, I'm not a vet. They treated her vomiting but said diarrhea can resolve on its own. (Not for our dog though, her Vet at Banfield eventually placed her on antibiotics and we ended up taking all the blood tests and xray originally ordered by Dr Tara). We were sent home by VEG with a free can of dog food and were pleasantly surprised with how reasonable the ER bill was. Oh and while we were waiting in the lobby, we saw an unsuspecting ad that says send a feedback and we might win back our exam fees. I thought this cant be real but I got a call 5 days later and got told I won, we are getting back nearly half of our total bill. What a treat! Our dog is doing good now. We're just happy we have a reliable Pet ER here in San Ramon. read more

We just brought our Coco home from VEG, where she underwent emergency surgery, then recuperated for two days. From the surgeon and other doctors to all the nurses and staff, everyone was expert, professional, and so very caring and kind. We were able to be right with Coco at all times, which meant the world to us and to her. We were even given a private room to stay overnight in with Coco. Even though we had to visit VEG San Ramon for a sad reason, we had a really caring and compassionate time there. We knew our 17 year old chihuahua was coming to the end of her life and we weren't quite sure how to handle it. It seemed she wasn't going to pass on her own, but the at home euthanasia companies did not have availability for a few days, and our vet is always booked. We didn't want to wait any longer, as we felt it would be cruel. However, we didn't want to stress our dog out in the last moments of her life. When we called our vet, they suggested this clinic. When we got there, we didn't have an appointment. I just said we were there for euthanasia. The employee at the counter got a few pieces of basic information and asked us to wait for a moment. We waited maybe two minutes and they already had an exam room ready for us. We sat there for maybe fifteen minutes, though I had been preparing to wait for hours, and the medical director, Dr. Dombroksy, popped in and said a nurse would be with us shortly, apologized for the wait, and said it had been a very busy day. Again, I was prepared to wait for hours, so we were perfectly fine. Nurse Amy came in with Dr. Dombrosky and asked if we were ok with needles, which we were. I imagine if we had said no they would have asked us to step out for a moment or taken our dog to a separate room to put the IV in. Because we were ok with the needle, they let us hold our dog as they did the IV. Nurse Amy was amazing and our dog didn't even flinch when the IV went in. They then asked if we wanted more time with our dog or if we were ready to see the doctor for the euthanasia. We said we were ready and they said the doctor would be in shortly. They did offer us the "quiet room", but we were perfectly fine with the exam room. Dr. Kate came a few minutes later, explained what she would do, and let us hold our dog as she pushed the euthanasia drugs. She was incredibly kind the entire time. Our dog quickly passed. They offered us a coffin, which we declined. They had also offered cremation options earlier, which we had also declined. The bill was sent via text and they said to pay it at our leisure online. It was really nice being able to walk straight out of the clinic and not try to do any admin or billing while crying. In the end, we were there for less than an hour, and I had been prepared to wait many hours. Everyone was so kind and I never felt judged. I was grateful they let us hold our dog the entire time and she never had to be taken away. I think her last moments were as stress free as possible. I was also expecting a much larger bill and the price seemed really reasonable and was less than the at home euthanasia prices. read more

I can't say enough about VEG and Veterinarian Jason. Had to bring one of my three pups to VEG after I realized he had foxtails lodged in his ear that for the first time I was unable to remove myself. My regular vet was unable to schedule me for the next month and the other emergency vet referred me to VEG as they were inundated. I am so glad they did. VEG is not the closest but after their treatment of my boy and myself I will be returning regularly in those emergency situations. He is a rescue and has high anxiety around other dogs and at the vets but Jason and his assistant sat on the floor with me for the procedure and treated him like he was their own. They were welcoming, fast, and the group has reasonable emergency room costs. I will skip straight to VEG from here on out when something comes up that just can't wait. The last time I had to take one of my cats to emergency, it was horrible. I was separated from my kitty and had no idea what was going on. They gave me terrible information and I was just frustrated. When it became clear that my kitty had to go in, I was dreading the whole experience. I called OakVet, an Emergency Vet in Oakland who told me that they had a crazy long wait, and that the last they heard a bunch of other places they did too. But that I should try VEG. I called and the very friendly person on the phone told me to come right in. When I got there I was shown right in. Because my cat is was not going to sit still in any way, they gave us a room. It was clean and it was all very calm. Someone came in right away to check on my cat. It seems that just then they got a big emergency walk in and so we had to wait a while. But someone would always come and stick their head in to make sure both kitty and I were doing ok. Eventually a vet came in and all was well. I also dread an emergency vet bill. Those are brutal. Not that this one was cheap but it was not what I expected, in a good way. So from the friendly, helpful reception to the warm and comforting staff, to the clean environment and not horrifying bill, I was super happy with VEG and I'll be coming here again if I ever need to. That was a blessing in disguise; I got to experience great, fast, caring service. I especially appreciated how I was able to stay with Zoey for all her treatments (except x-ray); it made it easier. And, I had easy access to the doctor the entire time. They have an open floorplan setting; no walls, rooms, offices -- so you can talk to anyone and ask questions anytime. Very convenient, productive, and efficient!
