If you have a pet, definitely check this place out. My cat Zoey vomited 7 times in a row, my normal vet office was closed, and they referred me to VEG. That was a blessing in disguise; I got to experience great, fast, caring service. I especially appreciated how I was able to stay with Zoey for all her treatments (except x-ray); it made it easier. And, I had easy access to the doctor the entire time. They have an open floorplan setting; no walls, rooms, offices -- so you can talk to anyone and ask questions anytime. Very convenient, productive, and efficient! If you're in the area, stop by the facility to learn about it, take a peak at their open floor plan, and be prepared in case you need emergency services! read more

I cannot say enough good things about VEG! When i first noticed our Todd was not feeling well, i spent an entire day calling every local clinic, no one could see him. The other ER hospitals told me 6+ hour wait in the car, VEG told us to come right down. Over the course of two weeks we had multiple visits and even a hospital stay. All the Docs were great, but Dr Jason went the extra mile. Caring and compassionate, listened to all my concerns and answered all my questions. And i had A LOT of questions. They are even open concept so you can stay with your fur baby the entire time. Our Todd is feeling much better now. So happy we found this gem during such a scary time. read more

We brought our cat here when we thought she had eaten Tylenol. The staff worked incredibly fast and efficiently. They were very friendly and kind. No pushing for procedures not needed. 10000/10 stars for this vet!! We have 3 guinea pigs and just added a 4th to our herd. I immediately saw signs of a URI in the newest baby and took him here instead of our primary Ohana. We love Ohana, but they are booked out so I wanted to make sure he got seen and got some meds. First off, I love that you get to go in with your pet and see the whole day to day operations. Most weren't wearing a mask which was okay with me since I'm vaccinated, it really felt like a home-y place. The check in process was so easy and we were treated like family from the start. They even have drinks and treats for the humans as well. Dr. Jason D came by and did a quick exam of our pig and agreed with me about the URI. He prescribed an antibiotic and 10 minutes later we were on our way. I observed how the staff handled the other patients like a bunny, dogs and even a lizard. Everyone was extremely nice and professional and handled every single animal with a smile and with the highest care and love. I will definitely be back for our animals and highly recommend them to anyone needing care for their loved pet! read more

So going to the vet, let alone the emergency vet just sucks all around. We were at VEG for 6 long hours with Jack, our small dog, with GI issues, after seeing our regular vet, who said we needed a sonogram. So good luck getting one of those, I was told it could be 6 weeks at other places, VEG had one sorted the next day!, with Dr Okine who was great. Every single staff member we dealt with was caring and professional, they know their stuff and felt like we were in the best place we could be, and in safe hands. They made an otherwise crappy situation the very best that it could be. This is an open treatment space with everything being done in the open, we saw lots of interesting stuff, including surgery (but if you are squeamish there's a nice waiting room), you can be with your pet the whole time, and I mean the whole time-we only had to step out of the x ray room while they did the picture-that's it!. There was a lot of waiting between stuff being done but it made it interesting, and better than being in a waiting room. So all that said-its a vet ER, so just be prepared for a wait, the staff here do regular check ins to keep you up to date, so give them a break-as you will see they all never stop. One last thing-yes its expensive, as are all ER experiences-If you love your pet please get pet insurance, we have had it for 4 years now without any claims to date-but this 1 visit, and 12 hour hospital stay we will be reimbursed at least what we have spent on 4 years of insurance-just saying $30-40 a month is worth it. read more

VEG--This is the best most caring animal rescue or veterinary group I have ever been to or even contacted for help with an animal! This group of animal lovers truly show their caring for all animals, hurting strays and owner brought in kitties and doggos! Every person I spoke to here cared and wanted to help my feral kitty who was hurting and suffering after a long time. They didnt ask me anything for $$, it was all about the hurting kitty and I admit I lied, but called back to come clean because they deserved the truth and I will sing their praises to any who have a hurting animal friend, family or found new friend! We should not leave suffering animals out there just because we can't afford to help them and this is the only clinic that truly wants to help and support us to that end,,,their main concern was not $$, it was the animal and how it was suffering or hurting or both! I was so impressed and amazed that I want to tell anyone who knows of such an animal to pick them up and bring them here to VEG because they care and will help you to help them! I know The Lord led us here and is working with these wonderful animal lovers here at VEG clinic! Took our 10 yr dog here last night and by far the best emergency vet in East Bay. In past 2 yrs dog had to go to VCA in San Leandro- never again, dog came out in worse shape than went in and Sage in Dublin - they weren't bad but neither compare in quality of care to this place. Dog ended up having UTI but she was panting and trying to pee for few hrs. Base d on recommendations we went to VEG and will never go to another emergency vet. 730pm check in, allowed to stay with dog during entire process, other emergency vets make you wait in car. Labs and scan for kidney stones done and home before 11pm. Other emergency vets hold pet hostage for several hours. Dog had to get stitches replaced at VCA, took 10 hrs, Sage she had severe limp, xray and see Dr took 8 hrs. Now I realize triage is done but a couple pets at each other vet when we went and told it would be 1-3 hrs. VEG gave us timeline, with over 12 other animals there and pretty much stuck to it. I never write reviews but after being to so many vets for my elderly cat, VEG has given the best emergency care.

Last night, we made the difficult decision to help our 10 year old golden retriever pass away with dignity and without suffering any more pain from the tumor causing repeat pericardial effusion. We have been to VEG twice in the last 5 weeks as the fatal condition revealed itself. Both times, all the personnel at VEG were professional, attentive, friendly, warm, and action-oriented. We felt a lot of compassion for our situation. Everyone was so patient and loving to us and to our dog as we faced the end of his life. The facility was itself designed in a thoughtful manner. It has an open floor plan. There is something comforting about seeing other people and their pets being helped and treated instead of just a bunch of hallways and closed doors. The place is clean and spacious. There is a special room devoted to "last goodbyes" with a comfortable couch, LED candle, art, candy and biscuits, and a journal. Nobody rushed us -- Charlie spent his last moments in comfort with us. The process was explained clearly and calmly. Dr. Falk and the team of technicians were absolutely wonderful. It was a terrible night for us, but VEG of San Ramon was a silver lining. They even gave us a handmade botanical memento as we left. read more

Unbelievably awesome hospital, doctor, techs and staff. I took my dog Luke here last night with an injury on his paw. They got him cleaned and stitched up - and I was able to stay with him the entire time which was amazing, I'm so appreciative of that since he's utterly terrified of vets. Everyone here was super kind and their process for new clients was so easy, it all made dealing with a stressful situation so much better. Their open space is just fantastic. My dog actually did significantly better there than he has in most single rooms at other places. That surprised me - maybe because he could see what was going on and they would stop to check on him while we were waiting? He even laid down for most of the wait, which wasn't long at all, and stopped shaking. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Background info; I'm also a veterinary professional of ten years with ER experience. -- The only two "Cons" are at the bottom. Thank you, VEG. I don't like seeing my heart child sick but her exorcist vomiting seven time in an hour was ... not what any owner wants to see. Yesterday while working from home, Caroline consistently vomited. First bile, and then food after attempting to get her to keep anything down. I packed up my reluctant sickie patient and headed up to San Ramon. It was a little weird for me to find but I also totally missed the ENORMOUS sign for their building first so, that's on me. I'm terrible with names but here we go; Dr. Maxwell, you were very compassionate in telling me your honest worries and giving me options for inpatient vs outpatient care, trusting me with my word about my own veterinary skills and at-home abilities with my cat. She listened to me about not wanting to jump on board with sedation because that could push my sometimes sassy momma over the edge--the restraint for needles, that is. Luckily, she was extremely compliant with the nurses. The primary nurse who helped us out was Yayoi! She was *super* friendly and reassuring. She also did the xrays and I know she was gentle and patient for my kitty because when Caroline was returned to me, she was in a good mood still. Also shout out to the client care rep, Karlee, for being a master at juggling a ton of tasks up front, having a wonderful sense of humor with me and also genuinely being interested in Caroline's prognosis. She *might* have had a mechanical obstruction, but luckily, this morning, my six year old kitty cat is a happy, affectionate girl and I couldn't be more relieved. If you're still reading my novel of a review, here's some run down info; TONS of parking. Right next to food if you need to leave your pet for diagnostics. No sitting in your car. Come in, go right into their treatment area. No dreaded 'I'm here to take Fluffy to *the back*' -- Stay with your pet, through exam, vitals, injections -- just about everything including mild sedation (I witnessed another couple stay with their male kitty while he was sedated for a live-saving procedure) ... but obviously not surgery or xrays for safety. Everything was CLEAN and organized. I have two tiny bones to pick; In the registration, they had me choose my pronouns. I am a male he/him with a different body type and was misgendered the entire time I was there. I was focused on Caroline so I wasn't stressed. Yelp does say they require and currently wear masks. Neither are true. I wore mine, a few others had theirs on, but major or staff did not. We had to visit the San Ramon location in the middle of the night for my daughter's bunny. Sadly we had to make the decision to put him down, but I cannot say enough good things about Michael and the rest of the staff. The doctors and nurses at Veterinary Emergency Group saved my young dog's life. He had gotten into something toxic, and his liver was failing-at one point they gave him a 10% chance of making it. The doctors were able to provide state of the art care (2 plasma transfusions, etc.) while also just be incredibly kind and caring towards our family and our pup during this traumatic time. What's also so apparent is that the staff really like each other and like their jobs-- it's great to see such a positive environment. I cannot say enough good things - even though it's about 40 minutes from my house it's the only place I'd go for emergency care. read more

We are so grateful to have this place in the area! My family took in our dog last night and we were seen immediately. The staff was amazing, super nice and not at all judgmental about the situation. Our dog was a rescue and isn't great with strangers, so we were so relieved that they let the owners stay with their animals the whole time to keep them comfortable. OMG OMG OMG, this place couldn't of opened fast enough. My daughter has rats, and two got in a fight last night at around 10pm. She drove out there and they we perfect. I would not had taken my dog any where else. Since the first consultation I had with the Doct via phone she provided me with great information. The 5 days that my dog spent at the vet from Parvo, staff/doctors where alway attentive to my dog. Everyday Doctors will provide me with updates wether they where good or bad. Billing wise, when it's a dog emergency just know the bill it's never cheap. i thank them for being comprehensive and working with my budget. Even though my Dog "Luna" did not make it. I took my toy poodle in for an emergency at 2am because he had a bad reaction to medication his primary Vet had prescribed him for pain. His primary vet had only prescribed him pain medication that only worsened his symptoms. They took us in very quickly, and began treating him immediately. The staff were very sweet to him and were very careful when treating him. The staff was very knowledgeable and explained things thoroughly. They were able to give him medication to flush out the primary vet's prescribed medication that my fur baby had taken and then gave him medication that really did help him with pain. My dog has IVDD and they were able to prescribe him medication that helped with the pain and inflammation. After taking the medication my fur baby has improved his pain management and mobility. I am very thankful for Margaret and the entire staff that treated my dog that day and were able to find the treatment that really helped my dog. May God bless this team of experts and all the wonderful things they do for animals. Thank you to all the staff that was showing so much love and treatment to my dog. After our pet rat had been wheezing, lost weight, and was lethargic it was time to find a vet. She normally does not like to be contained. She is like a dog and loves to play and run. We contacted several vets that did not take small animals. The two that did were booked out at least 3 weeks. The few we got into contact with referred us to this facility. I had a really great experience bringing my bunny in. She was in pain and not eating. I was worried because not too many ER's take rabbits. The technician Amy handled her very well. She knew how to pick her up properly and handle her gently while administering shots. Of course my bunny went in there freaked out, trying to escape while being held steady. But it put me at ease how the staff handled everything. Dr Greenfield assessed my bunny. She helped in getting my bunny comfortable asap and getting some fluids in her. The bonus part is, you can be there with your animal. Other places do drop offs only. This is my new go to place for emergencies. read more

I can't thank their staff enough for the care and attention that they provide. Wait times are short, they communicate openly and allow you to be part of every step. They are kind and considerate and constantly making sure that you and your pet are comfortable. Not to mention, the facility is very clean and organized. It's very difficult to find exotic pet vets in the Bay Area, let alone an emergency clinic. I had to come here twice over the last month with very sick Guinea pigs. Both had conditions that were out of my control and were no longer treatable. The staff here gave me answers, comfort, and care when my pets and I needed it most. Came in last night with our dog after he had been attacked by a coyote. Thankfully all wounds were superficial and only one needed stitches. This was our first time going to VEG and it's an amazing vet ER. It's like a open clinic and we were able to stay with our dog the whole time(even during the sutures). My 15 year old cat was in distress late on a Friday night. The staff, and Dr. Ogg in particular, were incredibly professional and compassionate. Even though they were very busy that night, I always felt like we were a priority. They were good at keeping everyone informed as they triaged patients. Took my yorkie Remy here on December 27th around 12am. Our experience was positive right off the bat with a really sweet and helpful receptionist. The whole place was packed and I could see how hard all the staff was working to take care of all the animals as gently and quickly as possible. Around 1am the receptionist even made a batch of cookies for all the folks waiting for their pets to be seen. The doctor who assisted us was knowledgeable and sweet with Remy. We interacted with 4-5 staff members and every single one of them was kind and patient with us and Remy. Would HIGHLY recommend VEG. read more

My puppy was throwing up/having diarrhea off and on and I couldn't get in with my regular vet for a few days. I brought her the VEG and we received great care. I believe our vet's name was Dr. Greenfield and she was kind, patient and thorough. She was negative for parvo which was a relief. We talked through the options and ultimately, since my puppy was still eating, drinking and playing, we were sent home with probiotics and prescription food. We had an appointment with our regular vet a few days later and I felt like that helped guide the treatment we received. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again. Last Wednesday was a horrible day. We found out that our little girl had extremely aggressive cancer, was in pain and there was no cure for her. By the end of the day we had to say our goodbyes. I'm so glad I went to VEG instead of our local vet emergency room in Oakland. VEG was able to see us right away (the Oakland vet quoted us at least 4 hours to be seen). The vet at VEG explained what was going on with our little Abby in a practical and compassionate way. She helped us make the right plan to help our little girl and they helped guide our whole family through a tough decision. The facilities were comfortable, the staff was kind and compassionate. I won't lie--I waited 2 hours to be seen with my cat, but what else can one expect at 9pm when they are the only place open for miles? Everyone who helped us from the front desk to triage to the dr was amazing. So kind, truly cared for myself and my pet. And Dr. Cat--the best vet I've ever met. She was so kind and even though she'd probably been having a crazy, stressful night she gave us all her attention and didn't feel rushed. She gave me a clear price break down and didn't judge or make me feel guilty for foregoing the x rays (taking my bill from $1400 to $900 ). Bo had an abscess that needed to be lanced so, as it was 11:30 pm, I decided to leave him overnight. It was obviously way more than I wanted to spend on a cat, but hey what can you do. If I have to spend that much I'd rather do it here with the best treatment ever. 10/10 recommend for emergent situations--just make sure to bring your patience because these nurses and drs are working their tails off to care for yours. read more
