I stopped by Via 313 for pizza while driving from Fredricksburg to Austin. We wanted pizza and had heard about Via 313 so we wanted to try it. I have one friend that's from Detroit and Via 313 is known for having Detroit-Style pizza, so she wanted to see. We arrived and was quickly seated and given menus. The waitress was nice and pleasant. We didn't know what type of pizza to try so she suggested a few. We went with one traditional pizza that had meat, red sauce, and cheese which was The Ambassador. The other one we went with sounded a little different having gorgonzola, fig preserves, and balamic vinegar called The Cadillac. We all liked The Ambassador. The crust was really nice and crispy and the cheese, meat and sauce on the top was nice. None of us liked The Cadillac. It was too sweet and the combination of gorgonzola, fig preserves, and balamic vinegar didn't go well together. My suggestion is to get The Ambassador. I'd honestly pass on The Cadillac. We also got the chance to get the Boston Cooler. It's an nice refreshing drink that is based out of Detroit. It has Vernors ginger ale and vanilla ice cream. We also had ginger snap cookies on top. This was a really nice refershing drink, so definetly ask for this while you are here. read more

Really good pizza and drinks. The staff were very friendly and our waitress gave us some complementary pumpkin bread sticks. Fun atmosphere not too loud, lots of seating and good selection of pizzas to choose from. The best salad was delicious and so was the arugula salad. I am not a huge deep dish pizza lover so I just can't give it a 5 star rating. There is more than enough toppings on each slice and the pizza was cooked perfectly. I do enjoy more sauce than what was on the pizza but this is Detroit style, so I get it. Well definitely be back! Maybe I can learn to love deep dish pizza and change this to a 5 star. read more

This review is about their take-out orders. One advice - DON'T DO IT!!! I have never ordered from a place that handles their take out orders worse than Via 313. If you want to order mid day/week, you would probably be ok. But ordering on a weekend, is like a suicide. 5 pm order is not ready for pickup till 7:30pm and then you have to wait another 40mins "because they are behind". What kind of crap is that? Why would I want my pizza 3 hours after I ordered it? Management is doing poor job handling incoming orders flow. We tried ordering multiple times over a span of a few months, and always the same issues. And the "best" part is when your online order you paid for in full "cannot be located". So annoying. Tried to celebrate my birthday at this location on Nov 22 as I love their gluten free pizza. Only 5 of us. Had to sit by hostess stand at the door or wait in the car. There were spots at the bar but we could not sit there. After an hour we were told kitchen was backed up for an hour. By my calculations that would be 2more hours before we could eat. I felt the hostess had no concern for my special day. Could have called the other location and pulled strings etc. or let us sit at the bar. BUT NO!!!! I love the food but when you don't care about me then I am not giving you my hard earned $$$$. I had the email subscription which had drink specials on my birthday but I couldn't get anything. This location is in my neighborhood so I go there quite a bit. It is sorely in need of a Happy Hour. Enjoying even a couple of beers will drive your bill sky high. We have repeatedly asked staff about it and have been told more customers need to complain about the lack of happy hour because management doesn't listen to them about it (not cool management!). We normally eat and then go drink at Detours which is much cheaper. The staff is always super friendly and service is usually pretty fast. The Detroit style pizza is amazing, I've tried several and all are good. Everyone in Austin that has eaten at Via, knows this pizza is legit. The Omnivore is my favorite, it's basically a supreme. Their cheese sticks are awesome, well seasoned and very cheesy. The bar style pizza was shockingly not at all good. I see a lot of people order it, but honestly I ordered it once just to see if it was as good as the Detroit style and it was awful, burnt and flavorless. It was like eating pizza from a completely different restaurant. My friend who also loves Via was equally shocked. After sampling their Detroit style pizza from a humble food truck, FINALLY made it out to Via 313's first B&M (they now have two and two food trucks as well) about two years later. Home of the thick crust square "pie" (or can order Bar Style thin & crispy), Via 313 does not disappoint. Their signature pizza selections range from traditional (e.g., The Carnivore" aka meat lovers) to more refined an innovative (e.g., The Cadillac with fig and balsamic). Toppings are a bit sparse IMHO; however, the crust is so thick it is super filling. Think crispy on the edges, just the right bite to tooth, thick crust; nothing like Chicago deep dish. On my first visit sitting at the bar area, the 'tender lady was nice enough to send out a comp Artichoke app that was so tasty. Don't know what warranted that, but it was a welcomed surprise. Thank you, and great friendly service from all. Ambiance, staff, and food place Via at a solid 4.5 for me. A private equity firm known as Savory (!) has bought a slice of Via 313's pie, with the idea of expanding as much as possible as quickly as possible. Savory is a private equity firm out of Salt Lake City, UT; you know, Salt Lake City--the pizza focal point of the universe. I tried the pizza here: bread, bread, and more bread; I think I had a bread hangover afterward. And redolent of...Crisco? Is it possible? Is it Italian Crisco? Just asking. Fantastic service! Courtney was very friendly and helpful. We have never been here before so she explained how their pizza was different than other places and what to expect on sizes. We ordered the herbivore which has black olives, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers. The pizza sauce was served on top of the pizza, which allowed you to spread the sauce as thick or thin as you want it. The pizza had a lot of flavor and the crust was awesome. We also had an order of roasted broccoli and cauliflower which was also very good. Needless to say, once we discovered Via 313 we only used that stone to heat up leftovers from them. I love the Oak Hill one in particular as it has a nice neighborhood feel. I don't know what the hell they are doing in that kitchen but I need these folks to open a location in Phoenix, AZ. I am gluten intolerant and vegetarian. The herbivore pizza was perfection! The best word to describe the crust is spongy but I mean that as a compliment. Perfect ratio of green bell pepper, black olives, onion and mushroom. I don't even like mushrooms but with the mix of the other ingredients you didn't even taste it. The red sauce was delicious and sprinkled with dried oregano. I could go on and on and on, instead I think I will order another pizza while I'm still in town. Lastly, I'm from Chicago where we know a thing or 2 about pizza. Via 313 is mine and my family's favorite pizza place in Austin. I must confess, I had never heard of Detroit style pizza until I moved to Austin. Now, I can't get enough of it! I love how thick the pizza dough is, I love the quality ingredients they use, and I love how the cheese and toppings go right up to the edges. My favorite pizzas are the Detroiter (double pepperoni, even better with a side of hot honey) and the Cadillac (gorgonzola and fig). I also recently had the roasted artichokes as an appetizer and that was quite good - I'd order that again. My son prefers bar style pizza (thinner and crispier), so I like that I can order both Detroit style and bar style from this location. Also, I always do takeout (even pre-COVID) from this location and the online ordering process and pickup experience is easy and organized. So what would make this location even better? If they would offer the rotating monthly special pizzas they offer at the trailer locations! I really love the Big Dill (bacon and pickle pizza, yes, it's delicious), so even though Oak Hill is closer, I'll sometimes drive further to get takeout from the Rainey Street trailer to get my pickle pizza fix. Best pizza in Austin... possibly best in Texas. It is a Detroit style pizza, so comparisons are tough, since most pizza around here is styled on NY, Chicago, etc. The dough is fluffy with a nice level of crispness. Excellent flavor on the sauce and toppings are allocated perfectly. The gluten free pizza actually comes close in taste/quality to the regular pizza. I'm not gluten free, but I tried it from another in the group, and it was surprising how it could have passed as a regular pizza. Salads are average, but you are not coming here for that anyways. Just get the pizza and be happy. The Bobo is the best and the Ambassador Bridge is a close second. I have tried a few others and they are all tied for third place, so every pizza gets a medal. Have yet to find a pizza here that myself or someone in the group doesn't like. They rotate a specialty pizza and cocktail if you want extra variety. Standard booze, beer, wine available as well. Service here is good. Friendly staff and good with kids. I had a delayed takeout order once (everyone ordering on a Friday evening) and was offered a free desert on my next trip. This is my son and myself go to pizza spot in Austin! They have several locations around town. We've tried three and they are all 100% the same and really good! The pizza is on a thick crust. The ingredients are extremely fresh and the flavor is amazing. I suggest if you are in the Austin area to give this spot a shot. You will not be disappointed. The detroiter is our go to pizza. They put pepperoni on below and above the cheese. So good! They take about 25 minutes to cook. I've also tried the carnivore which is really good as well but I think the detroiter is by far my favorite pizza at via 313. Solid pizza spot along 290. I've never had Detroit pizza before so can't attest to the authenticity, but it was definitely delicious! The cheese bread starter was amazing and a good intro to their pizzas - the dough is not too thick but not so thin that it leaves you yearning for more. We got the omnivore and bobo Brazil to share, and my personal favorite would have to be the bobo Brazil. I'm a sucker for spicy and sweet, and the hot Calabrese and Mike's hot honey is exactly that! I ordered the house with dressing on the side and my husband ordered the caesar side salad. The salad was nothing crazy but still good. Now on to the good stuff, the pizza!! I was raised in the Ohio/Michigan area and know all about the Detroit style pizza. I had called my mom up about this place the next day and she was like so the pizza was square and thick crust? Yup! Anyway, my husband and I ordered the gluten free dairy free small Detroiter pizza. The Detroiter is listed as: Smoked Pepperoni under the cheese, Natural Casing Pepperoni on top. When it came out the pizza was divided into 4 slices. At first, my husband was a little taken aback since he said it looked like an old school lunch pizza. The pizza was really good and it pleased my picky eater of a husband. You could barely tell it was dairy free and it certainly didn't taste gluten free. We enjoyed a late lunch here after a morning of hiking in West Austin. We had all heard of Via 313, and happened to pass one (there are multiple locations) on the way home...and what a wonderful treat it was to stop by. A momentary pause of recognition and thanks to Chelsea, our wonderful server from entrance to exit. There weren't fully staffed because it was literally like 2 in the afternoon, but she was so attentive and gave us amazing service. The menu is extensive with selections for all eaters. Start with the style you want--traditional OR Detroit-style. We all did Detroit because it seems like they were famous for their rectangular style. AND WHAT A GREAT CHOICE. I got the large size because I wanted to take some home for leftovers. You're able to do half/half for flavors, so that's always a plus for someone like me who loooooves to try different things. I got the Herbivore (substitutions are possible!) and Cadillac (the fig and ricotta intrigued me). The Cadillac was a little overly sweet for my tastes with their fig jam drizzle...it might have been interesting to have it with the prosciutto, but I don't eat meat...so that might have thrown the flavor profile off a bit. EVERYTHING was tasty though, including the cheesy and crisp edges of the pizza. Also, in case you're wondering...pop it in the oven if you have leftovers the next day--it tastes just as good. The one thing I do wish could be different would be the wait time for pizzas. Chelsea did mention at the beginning that the pizzas would take about 20 minutes to come out, and she was right. The wait is excruciating when you're hungry and don't want any salads or other starters. That's something to keep in mind! Come to Via 313 if you are looking for a sit-down spot for quality pizza and fabulous service. Parking is a-plenty, and they have clean restrooms and a full bar. You might even get a surprise sweet treat at the end of your meal :) We had a deliciously salted pretzel and vanilla bean treat. Even the whipped cream was slightly salted--so delicious and the perfect way to end our meal. Very nice restaurant in the location that used to be the old Flores at the corner of William Cannon and 290 (near the Detour bar). They have several large booths that can seat up to 8 people as well as a really long communal picnic bench style table for a large group and some regular tables, of course. There's also a full bar. They are know for their thick, square Detroit style pizzas but they also have thin crust "tavern" style pizzas. For two of us pretty hungry people, we ordered 2 of the small tavern pies as well as 1 of the antipasto salad. It turned out to be a ton of food. We ate all of the salad and took home half a pizza each. We got the small tavern style Supreme (meat combo) and the small tavern style veggie pizza with artichoke hearts and spinach. They were both really tasty but we didn't think to say "extra crispy" which we should have. We will definitely do that next time. It was soft and bendable on the bottom. The pizzas were very good but we prefer the bottom to be more firm and crisp. We are looking forward to heating up our leftover slices at home in the cast iron skillet to crispy perfection! The antipasto salad was really yummy! It's huge and more than plenty for 4 small servings or two big servings. It has a really light vinaigrette dressing, lots of meat slices, cheese cubes, cherry tomatoes, romaine lettuce. Service was great. Friendly and professional. We will definitely come back! read more
