Four of us dined at Vis Bologna's and had an awesome evening. Each of us ordered a different dish and each was amazing. They had a nice wine selection and our service was good. We enjoy the ambiance of the small dining area. They do not take reservations. I have eaten here many times and will be back. I highly recommend Via Bologna's. read more

Tucked away in a strip mall, it can be easy to miss this gem. The food is really great. I love the gnocchi with palomino sauce and the lasagna. The veal is pretty good but not as tender as I would have hoped. My date loved the Traverse City Chicken. The Limoncello Martini is divine. The service can vary. Sometimes can be slow, but the servers are very friendly and I think they may be stretched too thin. All in all, I definitely recommend. read more

Excellent Italian restaurant starting with the best calamari you'll ever have. Not the deep fried tentacle type, but the perfectly prepared steak variety. Every entree I've had has been superb, and don't miss the Tiramisu in a glass for dessert, it's sinful. read more

I visited the Clarkston location one evening specifically to purchase the Almond Tiramisu. When I arrived, I made it very clear to the first staff member who greeted me that this was exactly what I was there for, and she acknowledged it. I then confirmed--more than once--with the person taking my order that I was being given the Almond Tiramisu, and each time I was told yes. However, after getting home and trying the dessert, it was immediately clear that it was not what I had ordered. It tasted sour and off--definitely not the Almond Tiramisu. I was extremely disappointed, especially after going out of my way to be clear about what I wanted. I'm not sure how such a specific request could have been misunderstood. What made the situation worse was the inconvenience of having to potentially drive all the way back just to fix a mistake that shouldn't have happened. I contacted the restaurant and requested a full refund for the incorrect and likely spoiled dessert, and agreed to return it in person. The owner gave me the option of either coming back to the restaurant or receiving a gift card. I chose to return to the restaurant, expecting to receive the correct dessert and a refund. Instead, I was overcharged again--without any correction for the previous error. After this entire disappointing and frustrating experience, I am seriously considering never returning to this restaurant. I expected better service and accountability. read more

This is the best kept secret in Clarkston . Great family owned and run with amazing food and service . Nothing overly fancy or trendy...but just plain great. They have an awesome Wine collection, but if you prefer a cocktail like I do, they can make the basics or surprise you with something unique. I love their pasta sauce ...always fresh pasta and the Traverse City Salad. Never had a bad meal here! Update 2020 Quarantine Danny and his team are heroes of Quarantine 2020. We have never been big carryout people..preferring to sit down and enjoy with the great staff. Quarantine forced us into carryout and these guys go above and beyond! read more

Small and very clean, nice ambiance and friendly servers. No waiting at 4:40 on a Friday. By the time we left people were lined up. Tasty bread and soup of the day. Everyone was happy with pizza and pasta. I can't eat red sauce so I ordered Traverse City Chicken which was very good. BUT for $24 the meal comprised of a thin chicken breast and broccolini, no pasta or salad. Very pricey for a chicken breast. I doubt I'll go back. read more

The waitstaff were all very attentive, hostess, our waitress, and even other waitresses. All of our food came out very hot and was delicious. The atmosphere was very welcoming and full of guests who went there often, based on interactions with waitstaff. Highly recommend! read more

The two of us visited Via Bologna's last Saturday around 5pm and were seated right away. The hostess was very friendly and promptly brought us waters and bread. That's unfortunately where the good service ended. We waited another 14 minutes for our server to come greet us and take our drink order. A table of 6 was sat after us and by this point they've already received their drinks and had their order taken. When our server (she did not give her name, short blonde haired woman with slicked back pony) came to the table, no apology was given to us nor any sort of greeting was given. It was simply "what can I get you to drink?" And that was it. No friendliness at all. The espresso martini was one of the best I've had! It was delicious. The food: the bread was served warm and it was really good! the "bolognese" dish w the meatballs and Italian sausage was ok. I would say what they call a bolognese was just a regular meat sauce. The gnocchi was ok as well, not the best I've had. I would say overall the food was good, but the service unfortunately made us not want to return. read more

Warning:Drink Your Wine At Home Before Going Here Went with family after getting back in town, and have been here a few times a few years ago. Ordered 3 glasses of HOUSE wines to go with the meal. Wine was fine, but when we received our bills I noticed a $19 charge for the HOUSE Chardonnay, $17 for a HOUSE Cabernet and $17 for the HOUSE Chianti. You notice I capped the word house, usually a house wine is usually anywhere from $6-$10 on the high side at most good Italian restaurants. I mentioned to our server the prices and it looked like she knew what I was talking about and immediately offered free Cannolis to us. I asked for the manager, and she returned with the owner, guessing son of the owner. I told him that the owner of the most expensive Italian restaurant in metro Detroit area (name starts with a A) does not charge $19 for a glass of HOUSE wine. His answer to me, quote" JV does not have a restaurant in Clarkston". Wrong Answer. Now to his defense, our pours were 8oz not 5 oz. But we we just asked for a glass of HOUSE wine. We were not offered any pour options when ordering. So that begs the question, how much is the 5oz pour? $12,$13 or $14? Total rip-off. Thus my warning for ordering wine here, drink at home first. Food was just okay, not outstanding. But the free Cannolis were not great, not sweet enough and actually a gritty texture. read more

This place used to be so much better. The food is still slightly above average, but they consistently deliver the most disappointing dining experience money can buy. On our most recent visit, we waited 10 minutes for our server to greet us, then another 45 minutes for our food. One of our entrees wasn't even hot. The table next to us was seated before us, and still waiting for their food when we received ours. All of this while the owner chatted with his buddies in the foyer. read more

I was so happy with our visit! We were welcomed with a very friendly greeting by Brandi who was amazing throughout the whole night! We had some of the best bruschetta that I've ever had! Then we had pasta with palomino sauce, which was a wonderful creamy tomato sauce. It came with a side salad with their amazing sun dried tomato vinaigrette. We also had the carbonara which was incredible. They make a real carbonara rather than an alfredo. We finished up with the tiramisu. Everything was wonderful and delicious with plenty to take home for the next day. read more

Saved the night! Hubby and I wasted our time having dinner at Carrabba's, which left us severely disappointed. They ran out of cannolis which I was desperately craving!! Called Via Bolognas when we got back in town and ordered a dozen mini cannolis for carry out. Omg they are soooooo good!!! The night has been saved! Next time we will have dinner here too, screw Carrabba's! read more

Service was horrible, my son and I had to keep asking for a plate for bread, etc common sense necessary utensils..the lasagna was salty & they tried to pass off a fish (?) supposed to be Sea Bass..i asked to talk to the chef, NO SHOW..would not waste my money..big prices for food & service, really a t-shirt & leggings I lost my appetite read more

I've been wanting to try this place since I live nearby. I finally went with a friend a few weeks ago. The service was poor. It took forever to get drinks and then I had to ask the busser to get our waitress. She was quite odd. Not unpleasant but just really odd. The food came out fairly quickly but it was just average at best. The decor was ok but nothing great. I guess I should expect this when it's located in a 90% vacant strip mall. I will say we were greeted by a very nice young man when we entered. (I'm not sure if he was the Manager or not) The same guy smiled and said have a great night when we left. Unfortunately his hospitality did not compensate for the poor waitstaff and quality of food. read more

The original Bologna's was a great place to dine. My most recent visit (new owners Dan and wife) was terrible. I ordered Lasagna, take-out. Besides waiting even though I phoned in my order, the Lasagna had a burned area about three to four inches by one inch. Burned. Black. Burned cheese. We ate around the burned area, but after paying $18 and still having the lingering taste of burnt cheese, we threw out most of the burnt area and still had a small portion left. I decided to return to the restaurant to show the owner and request some adjustment to my bill. After seeing the burnt portion, you can imagine when Dan, the owner came out and told me..."THERE IS ONLY A SMALL PORTION BURNT AND THAT CAME FROM SCRAPING THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN." I could not believe what he said and he refused to give me a credit!! Refused to give me a credit since "only a small portion was burnt!" My advice, find someplace else to dine in Clarkston since there are some terrific places. Just avoid Via Bologna's! This is a terrible example of a restaurant. read more

First time we dined here. It was a recommendation. We had the greatest experience! Although you might not expect too much being in an half empty strip mall, we were positively impressed. The food was excellent. We had chicken Marsala, Cajun Tips and Spaghetti Bolognese. All three were great! The Cajun tips with Risotto. Risotto perfectly prepared, Cajun spice just right. Our visit was a disappointment. This is what I'd call a wanna-be Italian restaurant trying to act upscale. Food prices were out of line from the food quality. We eat out a lot so we have many experiences and a variety of price levels to compare against. The prices were about 25% higher than I expected. When we walked in, we were asked if we had reservations. Seriously? In a strip mall? Half the tables were empty! It took forever for someone to take our drink order and service all night was horrible. The young girls working there weren't very conscientious about the needs of the patrons. One girl seemed to wander around wondering what to do. She could have wandered with a pitcher of water. That's what restaurants get for hiring kids who don't know what good service is all about. They've never experienced it so how would they know how to provide it. I try to go out of my way to give deserving restaurants amazing reviews but I really couldn't think of anything good about this place. We will not be going back again. It was a terribly pricey, poor quality experience. What a shame because we love to give our service to small locally owned establishments. read more

Great food, wine and service. We eat out often and have made this place our Friday night regular. The pizza is amazing with fresh made dough. My son and husband get one every week. The risotto and salmon has to be the best thing on the menu. Great antipasto salad with shaved Italian meats. Their house dressing is a tomato vinaigrette that is tasty and unique. Goes great with the antipasto. My husband often gets the chicken parm and the Caesar salad topped with Cajun chicken. Also very good! Well seasoned and fresh. I always look forward to see the specials also...I've never had a bad one! It's all so good, we have taken many friends and family there who agree. read more

had a dine in meal tonight. service was slow but cheerful. problem was we went off menu. asked for a Gluten Free Veal Saltembuco. VS is a great menu item but chef did horrible job attempting to make it GF. it would have been much better for chef to let us know he couldnt make it right then serve the shoe leather pictured. Casalinga, ordered as offered was spectacular as usual. i suppose this post is to let you know....Order only GF items offered, do NOT ask for any menu item to be made GF of not offered that way read more

Empty tables don't exist for more than a few minutes, and they are packed in. Servers are laid back, knowledgeable, and friendly. Not in the "corporate wants me to smile", but genuine. I think the employees like working here! The food was amazing. If you want to pair the wine, ask for a suggestion. I'm so glad we did, both the red and the white wines we had complemented the food perfectly. The menu changes regularly, so what we ordered likely won't be available next week. Except the bread - I rarely eat any bread, but I'm glad I did this evening. Tables are small, but so are the plates. Share your food, there's just too many good things to try. And yes, even dessert was amazing. Dress up or not, doesn't matter. Anything goes. A sport coat is fine, but so are sweaters and sneakers. Entrance is a really plain door on the side, not at all where we expected it to be - and with very little indication of where it was. Top twenty of meals I've ever had, and probably in the top five I've ever had in Detroit.

They also have wine tastings here as well, and if you check in, you get 50% off. Guy seemed knowledgeable and passionate about the business. I love that I'm dealing with someone who KNOWS what their selling, and can educate me during the process. I was offered a free sample of wine, which I passed on, but definitely a positive! The negatives: Prices are a bit steep, and even though I'm sure it's quality stuff. $50 a bottle is a bit much for me. Sometimes I want a $9.99 bottle because sometimes it's just a matter of picking up a bottle to take to a party or serve at my house with dinner. They have a cute bar, but the seating is limited. I wanted to sit down and drink after I walked around, but a birthday party walked in and the one chair was in the middle of the party. Not the Wine stores fault, but a bigger bar would have been good. I don't think they serve food. I don't require a full meal, but snacks with wine seems to help hold the stomach, and absorb the wine when doing a tasting. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure they don't serve food. I want more wine knick knacks! Hardly any merchandise for sale! Overall a great place. I would love to return for a tasting and learn about wine again.

Many of the wines in this store are from small little known vineyards where the owner has developed a relationship with the vitner over the years and has arranged small allotments to his store that you will not find anywhere else in the area. The owner is also extremely knowledgeable on the wine industry in general, the various vineyards, many of the wine makers and the grape sources for the wines he carries which is the main driver in all good/great wines. It was a real pleasure and education discussing his wines with him and what his store has to offer which includes weekly wine tastings on Saturdays, quarterly wine clubs and upscale gourmet dinners with wine pairings. Quite a lot going on this one store. If you're in this area and your interest is full bodied reds, than this is a business you should definitely visit and spend some time talking to the owner who is readily available.

We sat at the bar and have had hit or miss service at bar seating over the years at other places because they don't seem to have any process for order fulfillment and order management, but the two bartenders were amazing. They clearly enjoyed working with each other and are professionals at their jobs. They were friendly and talked with us but didn't stop to goof off at all. They kept order turns moving while making a little small talk. I really like that they didn't spend too much time with any individual at the bar and that they kept working. I can't imagine how tired they were by end of their shift! Ambiance is great. We're looking forward to trying their outdoor seating when it gets warm enough to do so. Size wise, this place can manage large groups but be sure to call in advance so they can staff accordingly. It looks like there's a banquet room and that they can also accommodate larger groups in the main area. They really hustle. The owner was nearby, checking on things as the evening wore on. Hovering occurred.. desert question asked and my husband (fast eater) had not eaten 1/2 dinner.. Food was good. Joy was missing Rushed was evident Noise from outside dining increased. Bills were left on table then. Waitress hivering but no refill on drinks... Both tables on either side of us were comped for issues that occurred. All in all not a relaxing time. Someone on a mic began talking. (out in patio area). We had a lot of fun memories from when it was nicolodeon.. We both drove a ways to get there.

The flatbread a couple of years ago to now, omg... the mushroom flatbread with ground waygu is fantastic! The buttery crust plus the surprise of waygu. Can't go wrong!! We ordered the meatballs and olives too. Everything was great. Love the vibe of the wine grotto too.
