My first visit to Via Real was a good one. I came here for lunch and we were greeted warmly by the valet. Once inside there was a bit of confusion with someone who looked to be the manager visiting with someone just inside the front door. From behind them, a hostess waved at us and motioned us over to her stand, which given the situation would have probably been more professional of her to have come over to greet us. Either way, we were greeted and eventually seated, after they took our name and then immediately sat us. I am always curious as to why, when you are being seated immediately, a place records your first and last name...Maybe someone reading this review can enlighten me as to why restaurants do that. Once seated we were immediately greeted by our waiter and we were brought chips and salsa as well as our drinks. The service was friendly, professional, and pretty on top of it given that right next to us he was handling a 20 top. I ordered chicken fajitas and they were good. The order was a bit heavy on onions for my taste, but it was all good. The people I came with all enjoyed their dinners, which ranged from shrimp quesadillas to enchiladas, to a variety of tacos. One of the real hits at Via Real that should be noted in any review though is the the ambiance. I am here visiting my family and was staying across the street and was told to give Via Real a try from staff. Not seeing a dress code my sons fiancé was wearing shorts and felt out of place but decided to keep reservation any way . Our waiter was both inattentive and very curt with his answers to our questions. I watched him multiple times go to other tables and talk in depth about things but not to us. When our food came we were short one knife since the waiter removed it and tried multiple times to get his attention and he never once looked our way but still checked on other tables. We ate most of our meal sharing a knife until at the last few bites we wanted he stopped by to see if we needed anything. At this point I was not hungry anymore at the way we were treated and wanted to leave before I said something I would regret. I can forgive average food any day over poor service. You should never judge a book by its cover and unfortunately for him he did. I don't want to judge the food because I really only at the appetizer. I don't feel as if my commentary was understood, in the slightest. However that is their prerogative. Also the online picture of the shrimp cocktail would lead you to believe that it included some slivers of avocado, on my latest visit there was no avocado to be found. I've been here twice with two of my fellow yelpers and I have to say something about this restaurant. Each experience has been better than last. There is never a long wait even at lunch time, it's a spacious place. The atmosphere and feel of the restaurant is noticeable, you have to admire the place. The staff is first rate: your greeted by everyone when you walk in, the waiters are attentive, everyone is friendly and approachable. I tried the Sea Bass because I never had it before especially having it in the enchiladas. I wasn't disappointed even the black beans were good. Came into town for a family get together and had a room reserved. This restaurant is first class from the minute you walk in the door. Staff member constantly greet you with a warm welcome and a smile. Our staff consisted of Giovanni & Luis who did a great job with the table of 20-25 people. Easily one of the best examples of customer service. The wine selected (a Cabernet) was perfect. I ordered a garden salad with a basil vinaigrette, pecan crusted sea bass in a pineapple/jalapeño sauce with asparagus & a carrot. We visited for the first time back in Nov 2020 and were impressed by the quality and taste of the food. Fran is the sweetest and makes sure you are well taken care of. The staff is great and is always close by. After our 2nd visit, Via Real makes our top favorites list. The steak & lamb specials are such great cuts of meat and cooked perfectly. Flavors are on point and nothing lacks seasoning. The squash enchiladas are the best we have ever had. Bonus is that the chips and salsa are excellent too. read more

What's a trip to Texas without some Tex Mex? I may have been full from turkey, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie during my Thanksgiving trip to Dallas, but I've always got room for some good tex mex. And it sure was good... My brother works at the oh so beautiful Four Seasons Hotel across the street so we made reservations here mostly out of convenience, although I knew after reading the Yelp reviews that we were in for a treat. However, the yelp reviews didn't even do Via Real justice because the entire experience was pretty fabulous. Our largeish party (7 people) was given a table in the backroom where it was nice and quiet. We were greeted warmly by the owner and treated like royalty by the waiters. They definitely know the meaning of southern hospitality here! We were celebrating the bday of one of our dining companions. They even snapped our photo when they brought out the cake and then brought out a printed pic to take home a few minutes later...such a nice touch! The food was incredible as well. I started my meal by way too many chips and salsa. We skipped the queso since my Floridian parents didn't even know what such a thing was, but the salsa made me very happy. For my entree I went with the seabass special. After indulging in chips I planned to only have a few bites, but ended up finishing the entire fish because it was too good to leave on my plate. No margarita for me, but I did have a taste of my stepdad's and thought it was pretty stellar. And I did like my glass of Riesling. And the slice of chocolate cake they brought out to celebrate the bday rivaled the pumpkin pie I'd devoured the night before. Came in for Mother's Day brunch. We had my Grandmother with us and she forgot her medicines at home so we had to go back to get them. We arrived a little bit late and they were able to hold our table for a couple of minutes while we arrived. The customer service was nothing less than extraordinary by our waitress and management. The food selection was great and always hot! My favorite dessert was the flan. It was like the one my grandmother used to make-AMAZING. The flaming filet was impeccably seasoned and cooked to perfection. Enchilada was delish. I don't recommend the chili relleno; it was stuffed with what tasted like repurposed pork succatosh, and it reminded me of cruise ship recycle dining. OVERRATED and OVERPRICED! Been in Las Colinas for a year. We love Toyota Music Factory restaurants and LOOOVE Hugo's Invitados (Mexican Restaurant). Decided to give Via Real a shot. Very disappointed. Great atmosphere and great service (Eddie our server was friendly and Mr. Juarez kept our water glass always full). But boy were we disappointed with the food and drinks. We ordered the Via-Rita Martini ($13) and it came out in less than a minute, it obviously wasn't made to order. It was decent so we ordered the recommended Top Shelf margarita on the rocks ($14). It was borderline terrible. Very sweet and an inorganic taste. Eddie offered to take it back and got us another Via-Rita. Smoked brisket flautas were good. My wife and I split the Adobo Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas. Eddie offered to split the plates for $3, we respectfully passed. Our main entree came out with two enchiladas and four shrimps. They were going to split two enchiladas, four shrimps, and a dab of mediocre cooked spinach. All this to say, thank you but NO thank you! We wanted to love this classy place, but the heart wants what the heart wants (or stomach/pallet). And unfortunately Via-Real wasn't it. Due to my visit being a Dinner course planned through my work, our menu was limited unfortunately. I ordered the Chile Relleno meal which was ok along with a side of pretty good borracho beans and some bland rice for my taste. The mousse pie for dessert was really good. The complimentary chips and salsa good as well as the salsa had that perfect kick for me. The service was excellent and very attentive. I really remember the place for the Chips/Salsa and the mousse pie however, since the entree meal wasn't really something I'd recommend. I have seen their full menu online and I'm definitely willing to come back to try the other items thanks to the great service and also other recommended items that I wasn't able to order read more

I went last night with my 5 year old daughter. I was nervous about taking her because the pictures made it look too fancy. But we are not from this area and she wanted chips and queso. From the moment we arrived it was fabulous. The valet guy was extremely funny. The hostesses just doted on my daughter and made us feel welcomed. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive to both of us. The manager came by several times and treated my daughter like an actual person. She loved him. For kids, this place is great. The queso wasn't one of those more artisanal types with a bunch of extras in it. Just really good cheese and seasonings. The kids menu had the basics but also had steak tips and fries. These were cooked to her liking (medium rare) and were so good! They also provided coloring sheets and crayons with 4 colors (red, blue, green and yellow). This was huge because she's always upset when she doesn't at least have the primary colors at restaurants so she can make different colors. My food was equally as wonderful. I had a martini and the bartender did not hold back on the pour. So yummy! My quesadillas were just as wonderful. Several types of choices for adults ranging from traditional Tex-mex to higher end fish/steaks. Our favorite had to be dessert though. This restaurant still brings the tray with the desserts to choose from (replicas of course). My daughter LOVED this. We got the chocolate and raspberry cake and it was extremely good! If we ever find ourselves back in this area, we will be back. The manager mentioned they have a brunch on Sundays and said it's really kid friendly as well. This was my first visit to Via Real and I have to say, I was very impressed. Me and one of my buddies from college that I haven't seen in over 20 years decided to give this place a go. There was a mix up with the waiter at the very beginning and when one of the Managers noticed that we didn't have drinks on the table within 5 minutes he assigned another waiter and apologized several times throughout the night. Honestly, I had not felt put off in the slightest, however they run a tight ship there and want all of their patrons to have a first class dinning experience. The chips and salsa and queso were all tasty. I had the pork loin fajitas and the taste was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed the fact that the menu was as diverse as it was. The prices were fair and while it would be totally possible to drop $400 on a date there, there were many affordable options as well. The lighting and decor were very nice. I have been to this restaurant a few times since it is close to the office. A group of us from work went to Via Real during lunch time to celebrate the holidays. It wasn't as good as I remember. Let's start with the positives: Pros: Restaurant is close to the office. Chips and salsa were really good! Service was very good. There were 18 of us with separate checks and all was well (except for a small issue where some of us were charged for drinks when we had water. Ambiance - the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. It is very cozy! Great place for a date perhaps. Cons: Food - not so good. A few of us ordered the spicy chicken tacos which were not spicy and did not have any flavor. My other friend ordered the taco salad which also, was nothing special. Another friend ordered the salmon tacos and I am sure there was salmon in the tacos just not sure where. Overall, it was ok. Would I go back? Probably. But not for the food. Okay, to snap back to reality for a moment for a subjective review - First, please let me identify my essential elements of a perfect dining experience - 1) Reservation process/experience - My first impression of this restaurant was earned by a young lady named Alyssa - whom I later found out is the event coordinator, unbelievably accommodating, pleasant and genuine. Great first impression. 2) Timely reservation and table presentation - FLAWLESS!!!! Ambience was tastefully elegant without pretentiousness - a true rarity in the elegant dining circles of Dallas/Fort Worth. 3) Server preparation and knowledge of menu - Eddie was unbelievable!!! As prepared and attentive as any I have ever experienced!!! When my wife and I had questions on the menu, he went one step beyond any expectations - he sent the Executive Chef - Jesus Olivares to the table to answer our questions personally. It is called "Omakase" in Japanese culture when you allow a chef to personally select each and every course of your dining experience - here you should call it the "Via Real Experience". 4) Plating and Presentation - from the amuse-bouche (or to some, the amuse-gueule) of shrimp, to the entree of smoked beef tenderloin, the visual appeal is absolutely impeccable - only surpassed by the incredible cacophony of flavor that follows the initial bite!! The chef recommended that we experience a three part harmony of entree elegance that included a sea bass filet, scallops of two preparations - macadamia crusted and pan-seared - that were equal parts elegant and decadent and the aforementioned tenderloin filet craftily presented on a flaming chip of red-oak that provided a masterfully delicate smoky flavor. As a beef purist, I am typically unimpressed by gimmicks, however the flaming oak chip was not only visually stimulating, but also pragmatically perfect, the delicate smoky flavor was an ideal accompaniment to the prime tenderloin. At this point the dining experience went from incredible to unimaginable!!! My wife and I had, during dinner, described to our server and the GM, Michael, that we had enjoyed a flaming coffee drink at one of our favorite Dallas haunts. Much to our surprise, they spontaneously recreated our favorite after-dinner drink to stunning perfection!!!!!!!! The table-side preparation/presentation was the perfect way to cap an exemplary dining experience. To those of you who are already fans of Via Real, I don't need to tell you what a gem is hidden away in Las Colinas. Wow Great spot and not what we expected, but we are glad we went. It was about 1:30 so was not too crowded. Greeted by hostess and taken to a table. I had a salmon special that was awesome. The waiter recommended it and he was spot on. The person I was with had enchiladas and said they were excellent as well. We did have calamari starter and it was perfect. We made reservations here on the recommendation of a friend and seeing the high Yelp reviews confirmed our choice. It takes something exceptional for a Mexican restaurant to stand out from the many others, and Villa Real does this with both great food and exceptional service. The chips are light and crispy and I appreciated that each guest in our party received our own bowl of salsa. My chicken quesadillas were loaded with tender chicken and accompanied by a delicious dipping sauce. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals. What impressed me most, though, is the manner with which they resolved a complaint. After coming home, I realized that our server had inadvertently sent me home with my friend's leftovers and vice-versa. Since I had eaten less than half of my dish, I decided to call the restaurant to make them aware of this. The manager, Bridgett, handled my feedback with such truly exceptional customer service and professionalism!
