The ambiance is romantic and quiet... which is hard to find these days! So happy to say it is still amazing and will always be one of my favorites in the DFW area! We went there Saturday night. Much to my surprise, we got right in without a reservation. From the moment we stepped inside until we were out the door, the service and attentiveness of the staff was impeccable! The food was outstanding! My boyfriend said that the sea bass special was one of the best seafood dishes he's ever had and my filet mignon was cooked to perfection. Not usually a Tex Mex fan, but really loved the food here. Our appetizers and drinks came out fairly quickly, and the queso and guacamole were top knotch! Loved the paper thin tortilla chips too! The margaritas come in these awkward glasses and they fill it to the brim, so it does slosh and spill at times. However, he did not take our dinner order until an hour later, which made us all full on the chips. I decided to go with the sea bass enchiladas with shrimp because it sounded so unique. The sea bass was cooked perfectly, and loved my dish very much. The shrimp however were very overcooked. Everyone seemed to really like their dishes, ranging from fish to steak. Ordered the bread pudding for dessert and it was not the best I've had. A bit on the drier side, not very moist. Overall, pretty good place. It is a bit pricey, but good quality food. read more

It has been 15 years since I'd been to the Dallas area. And, I seriously missed supreme Mexican food. Yes, I can find good fare here in Milwaukee, but it really is night and day. Decent tex me flavors at a higher price. Not so much a fan of their queso, it's ok, but there are so many better quesos out there. Their salsa is a bit bland, the chips ok. Guacamole is advertised as "serves 4", but actually it's more like a generous portion for 2. I think when they say "serves 4" they really mean "sorry, it is a little expensive, isn't it". Enchiladas are undersauced, best to ask for extra sauce. Although requests in the order for a side of habanero sauce fell on deaf ears, so keep expectations low on any special requests. Overall gotta say 3 star for now, though hoping for good experiences to bump them up after future orders and visits. read more

Gorgeous decor, wonderful drink and food menu, attentive and knowledgeable staff (shout out to Rafael for the phenomenal care!), flavorful plates, generous portions, exquisite presentation, complimentary valet parking, ... the list goes on. Just finished a delightful lunch at Via Real. The restaurant's vibe is elegant casual and the food matches the atmosphere. Our waiter Eddie put our party of 8 at ease immediately as he explained the menu to our out-of-state guests. His humor and service was flawless throughout the meal. The guacamole appetizer was described by one in our party as "the best" they had ever tasted. The complimentary chips are served warm and are light and crispy. The salsa, also complimentary, is very good and the perfect companion to the chips. Every entree was beautifully plated and we wanted for nothing during the meal due to Eddie's attentiveness. The portions were plentiful and even though half the table was leaving with "take home" containers, we managed to order and finish 3 desserts for the table. All were out of this world. A buzzing energetic freestanding restaurant near the Dallas Four Seasons. A catered dinner in their private glassed-in room with choices of filet, salmon, vegan. A salad or tortilla soup, mouse or flan. Salmon, recommended by the waitstaff-- steered well, for a remarkably flavorful presentation of an oft-blundered bland farm fish. Cooked to the perfect point, a nice side sauce, and sidebar veggies. Simply very good and an easy re-order at another visit. Companions suggested the filet was very good. The tortilla soup,simple, fine, but hardly a standout-- can a tortilla soup ever stand out? And the flan? Super. But I'm a sucker for a flan, crème brûlée and all their cousins. I ordered the chicken poblano lunch special. It came with chicken with a sour cream sauce over some slices of cooked poblano peppers plus pico, beans, rice and 3 homemade flour tortillas. My wife ordered spinach enchiladas that came with corn and black beans. We ordered guacamole which was tasty and thicker than most. The salsa had a good flavor and everything had a lot of garlic. Really good. I parked across street as they have their parking lot out front is blocked off for complimentary valet parking - seems goofy as it's just right there with so many spots open at lunch. I've had a few friends that said this place is great but I'm sorry I have no idea why they would ever say this?? Let's start with the margaritas, we ordered the house margaritas that where so tart and zero tequila, tasted like a lime slurpee .. but our sever told us it's because the Tequila is so smooth and strong that we can't taste it.. sorry but they are not good! We ordered combination chicken & beef fajitas and a combination plater, the fajita's where covered in so many onions I could barely find the meat. The fajita meat was terrible lacked flavor and was very tough to chew. My husband who had the combination platter was terrible also, his comment to me was he's had a better meals from El Fenix than this and we haven't eaten at El Fenix in 12 years. Perhaps the other items on the menu are tastier than the Mexican food side is. The Chips and salsa were good along with the Queso had a nice flavor to it and a cup was enough for the two of us . I have to thank our server Edgar for trying to make things right, great service! My wife now works in the area and we try to get together a couple times a month for lunch. We like trying new places each time we go to lunch. Since it was a cool rainy misty day, Tex Mex fit the bill. I checked Yelp to see what was in the area and Via Real popped up. I hadn't eaten at Via Real for decades! So many of the places we go to lunch are loud and bustling. Sometimes you just want a nice quiet place for lunch. Via Real fits the profile perfectly. It's a white tablecloth restaurant and quiet. There were several business meeting taking place. It has many reasonably price lunchtime options on the menu. Eddie was our server. He made some menu suggestions and took excellent care of us throughout our stay. Next time we return, we'll definitely request him to be our server. My Del Rio platter was fantastic and my wife fell in love with the chicken quesadillas. We both like spicy and the salsa was a bit tame for the two of us. Eddie brought out some habanero salsa to spice up the regular salsa. The chips and thin and non-greasy. We can't wait to return again real soon for another wonderful lunch. read more

Crowded and energetic with mainly a business crowd on this Tuesday. By request, we were seated out at their serene enclosed patio. For lunch, nice was their "Chips & Salsa"; heavily seasoned was the "guacamole"; bland was their "Cabo San Lucas Shrimp" yet great were the grilled vegetables and a very tasty cilantro-pepita sauce. My husband and I were in the area and decided to stop by at 9:35pm on a Saturday. I checked open table and they were accepting reservations till 9:45 so I made one. The restaurant didn't seem very busy. We were seated and promptly given chips and salsa that was just ok. I ordered the guacamole, crab cake and lobster bisque. Crab cake was disappointing because it was this patty with corn and a basic remoulade. Guacamole was premade and in a taco shell that was soggy. It was also just ok. Lobster bisque had no lobster chunks in it. For our entrees my husband got a taco, enchilada and some pork dish, again just ok.. I ordered the chicken cilantro which was good, but the dish was just warm. Veggies were seasoned nicely and the rice was just a regular Spanish rice. We ordered two drinks, the top shel margarita and the via something.. it's basically a martini. Both drinks were good. I just didn't feel like it was worth the money honestly and won't be back. Maybe it was because we got there at 9:30? Not sure. The waiter did tell us after we were seated we needed to order fast because the kitchen closed at ten. read more

We first visited Via Real prolly thirty years ago, and have been a good number of times since then. We would have been more but living in the Mid Cities it is out of the way for us and not on the way to anywhere we go. This restaurant is spectacular on so many levels. Decor, ambiance and vibe; gracious, friendly, and attentive service; excellent food remarkably quickly prepared; and lovely cocktails An A+ dining experience from when you enter till you leave. I began with a Top Shelf large Margarita on the rocks, with salt. In my book de rigueur here. Be forewarned, large is, well, large. Marg perfection. The super thin tortilla chips, still warm when presented, are terrific as is the delish salsa they serve as a carrier for. I ordered a lunch special, shrimp scampi. This was a very unusual rendering of a shrimp scampi that is very nicely done and so good. My wife ordered a mixed fajita plate and likewise everything about it was excellent, just twelve bucks. We could have easily shared either of these two meals, especially the fajita platter. We resolved today to make the effort to visit Via Real more frequently. Came here for Sunday brunch, and we were seated immediately in homey room next to the main buffet area. They do not offer a la carte on Sundays. They do offer coffee, mimosas, and poinsettias (cranberry mimosas). I had a poinsettia, but I thought it was on the sweet side. The buffet spread here is quite extensive - a variety of meat and seafood dishes, salad bar, omelette station, carving station, and dessert table. I had a bit of everything, and everything was up to standard. I was disappointed, however, that the desserts were not labelled whatsoever. There were several different flavors of macarons, and I'm positive one of them had peanuts...which I am mildly allergic to. I asked the server which nut was in it, and he wasn't sure, so he asked someone else, who confirmed it was almonds. I'm not allergic to almonds...so why would my lips be swollen after that macaron? Could be cross-contamination, could be a mistake in remembering which nut. In any case, not very safe practice. Another issue occurred when one of my dining partners had a corn tortilla that was prepared on the same surface as the flour tortillas. She was sick immediately afterwards. Allergens at buffets need to be labelled! Otherwise, I enjoyed the ambiance of the place, from the charming chairs to the walls. Service was decent. read more

Everything amazing about this restaurant that I can't even begin to write it all! You may see famous people there if you go often enough too! My oldest daughter used to work there and we saw so many celebrities:) but this is not why I say go there to eat.....go there because the service is impeccable, and the food is so phenomenal you don't want to get full it tastes so good! Our server, Christina was perfect, always appeared just when we needed something, knowledgeable regarding the menu and offered some very good advice on helping us decide what to order. We had a wonderful chat with the owner, Fran. What an impressive story! The food was delectable. Since we are just passing through, we asked Christina what we should have. She recommended a combination of their two signature dishes. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection and included a fun table side presentation (see photos). The sea bass was equally tasty. Hats off to the chef. We want to go back just to try other things from the menu. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Raspberry Cake. Fantastic! This was one of the best experiences you can ask for at a restaurant. Went here, for the first time, for a birthday celebration and I couldn't have picked a better place. From the ambience, to the food, to the presentation of the food, to our superb waiter...Paul. If you go, it's a must that you get Paul. The rest of the staff were great as well. The drink fillers were always on point and not overwhelming. The Chef came out to check on the served appetizer. The Manager came over to fill our glasses as well as check on us. And even the Owner walked around and conversed with the guests. The seabass was very tasty, as well as, the ceviche, chocolate raspberry cake, and the blacken fish (can't recall the name).
