This place was great! My friend and I shared the Gorgonzola pizza. It was absolutely delicious the star of the meal. I highly recommend it. We also had our own Pasta dishes. I had the Beet Gnocchi with White Meat and Wild Mushroom Ragu with Thyme. It was absolutely delicious. I'm a huge fan of Gnocchi but I rarely get it because its just too filling. This was perfect I didn't feel bloated afterwards and it was absolutely delicious. I plan to come her again. read more

Let me begin by saying; I love pasta, and I'm always on the hunt for some good pasta. If I could eat pasta every day, I would. Stumbled upon Via Vai after a pasta craving and a yelp search for an Italian resto in Astoria. I first went July (2016), and in less than two months, I have now been there 5 times. The Food | Everything I've had here is delicious. From the bread that they give you when you first sit down to the dessert.The bread they offer is perfectly warm, soft, but crisp and that olive oil, yummy. Their cheeses are all from Italy and I am always drawn to their buffalo mozzarella and burrata. Had the Cappricciosa pizza, awesome. All their pasta is hand-made. I've had the Agnello pasta twice now, hands down, my favorite dish. The Orecchiette is also DELICIOUS, and that Cacio de Pepe...my mouth is currently watering. Their meatballs are perfectly juicy, tender, and in a perfect sauce. You'll know instantly once you take your fork into it. Everything new I've ordered has yet to disappointment. I can't forget the Panna Cotta, so GOOD. They have a nice selection of Italian wines :) The Service | Not sure what others are complaining about. Ther service is fine. Everyone that works there is from Italy, pretty sure. They are attentive, accommodating, and oh so friendly. They'll make sure you're happy and enjoying the food. I will start by saying the food seemed fresh. But there are a lot of things weighing this place down. The service is slow. No one refilled our water. No fork by the time the dinner came, and no one notices. The time to bring the food is an outlier for the area, in a bad way. Portions are very small, and they charge a premium. Went here for dinner on Friday night. The service was a little slow but the waiter explained they were short staffed. It was definitely worth the wait! I had the Spinaci salad as a main dish with grilled chicken. It was prepared exactly as I wanted and was absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the Manzo and I will definitely be ordering that next time. Desert ad coffee was delicious as well and very reasonably priced. Went there for an intimate dinner with a friend to catch up. For appetizers we split the tomato caprese and a pear salad with walnuts. Both very good! The pizza was so good I actually ate the whole thing! Got the pizza with prosciutto, so good. Unfortunately did not have room for dessert. Next time! Only negatives is I felt their wine selection could have been bigger and it did get a little crowded. Place is tight so it's fine for intimate dinner but not large groups. read more

Went here last weekend with my wife and sons. The restaurant was pretty empty but the experience was very positive. The place has a nice decor to it. We had 3 pasta dishes and one pizza and they were the best we've had so far after one year living in Astoria. The desserts (Tiramisu and Chocolate volcano) were also delicious. I had a really great experience the first time I came here back in February, but last night's experience was just awful. It was approximately 8:30 pm on a Friday night, so it was rather busy. I'm a reasonable person and don't expect instantaneous service, especially when it seemed like there were only 2 men being bus boys/waiters/hosts/bar tenders for the entire place. However, it was about 20 minutes of literally just sitting at a table before I was able to flag one of the guys down to get MENUS! And water! Finally we got those, but never got any pita bread and oil (which had been really great on the first visit). I forgot about the bread because I just wanted to order by the time the waiter finally came back. He kept trying to back away in the middle of my ordering, which was really strange because it was not long or complicated. My boyfriend got a beer, I got wine, one zucchini flower appetizer and one margarita pizza with buffalo mozzarella. 20 minutes later no sign of drinks. I finally flagged down the one other guy who was working there, and said "can we have our drinks please....beer and wine?" He seemed really apologetic. And came back pretty quickly, with my wine only and then ran away. I was hoping the beer was coming, but it wasn't. I eventually flagged him down again and asked for the beer. He gave me the sort of attitude where I felt like I was being demanding and/or ridiculous. The zucchini flower appetizer was delicious but on the small side and not worth $18 if you ask me. The pizza took about 40 additional minutes to come out, and was overall okay though the sauce was watery which made the thin dough mushy. Probably could have gotten a better slice at artichoke down the street for a lot less money and sass from staff. I felt like I was being ignored the whole night and the waiter kept muttering something under his breath every time he came over...something about a problem...something about everyone coming at once....something about the flour?!? Anyways, not my issues and spent 60+ bucks for an extremely lame, drawn out dinner. And I'm truly not a picky person. So, my best advice would be avoid busy times or avoid it altogether. Unless you happen to be a customer the waiter favors, in which case he will say lots of stuff in Italian and talk to you at length. I'll be going to artichoke or milk flower next time. read more

This restaurant is a waste of time and money don't even think about it worst experience ever first the food was not delicious I ordered the kalamari it was just ok then we had the Funghi E Salsiccia pizza worst pizza I have eaten in my life then I ordered a glass of carbanet and the waiter came and measured an ounce or so and poured it was so little that I only sipped 3 times and the wine glass was empty and it was so expensive more than the pizza we ordered.l was so disappointed that I went to the food trucks afterwards to just get some real food.fancy for nothing ! read more

If I could give this place less than one star I would. My friend and I went last night. We were seated near the front of the restaurant near the bar. Someone came over and asked if we wanted sparkling water or tap. Filled our glasses with water and never came back. We sat and waited and waited and waited ... patiently by the way. One guy was setting up a table right next to us for the next customers. Looked at us, walked away and also never came back. There was yet ANOTHER person that made eye contact with us quite a few times but continued to polish wine glasses that were not needed at the moment but I guess that was also more important than waiting on customers. We got up after a HALF HOUR of patiently waiting and told the bartender we were leaving and he said okay with a shrug of the shoulder. This place was recommended to us by my friends cousin who told us he's friends with the owner and was told it was really good. We wouldn't know since we never got a chance to even have our order taken let alone taste it. The only taste I left with here was a nasty one with a staff that's even nastier !!! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU'RE HUNGRY AND WANT TO ACTUALLY WANT TO ORDER SOMETHING AND EAT !!! read more

Great start! Seriously Delicious food. The zuchinni blossom special with mozzarella was to die for. Also one of the best tiramisu I had in a long time. Really attentive staff and comfy interior. I've been wanting to try Via Vai since it opened. Last night wife and i finally made it over and I can't wait to go back! We started with the fichi pizza (fig) it was outstanding. I had the gnocchi rolatini she had the pasta special with shrimp zucchini and shallots. Both were homemade and delicious. I couldn't resist the tiramisu for dessert when I saw it on the table next to us. The happiest words I've heard in a long time was my wide saying she was full and I could finish it! 1) The food is bland. We ordered a pizza and a gnocchi special that visibly looked good but wasn't. We also ordered a spinach salad. The spinach was quite damaged/not-so-fresh. 2) I ordered a pizza that normally has meat on it. I specifically asked to not have the meat on it. The pizza came out with meat on it. They just took MOST of the meat off and gave it back. I am not strict about meat and I was very hungry so I just picked off the remaining parts but geeze. Pretty good food but the overall experience was horrible. The start was a good 15 to 20 minute wait from getting served water just to order our food. The appetizers were good ( buffalo mozzarella and a specialty lasagna) and fairly quick but somewhat small for a party of four. Dinner took over an hour to arrive after ordering. I had the pork tenderloin with truffled mashed potatoes and asparagus. Well, the Serving size was good for a child. There was three thin slices of pork, a tiny scoop of mashed potatoes and 2 small straws of asparagus. For the entire dinner we were at the restaurant for almost 3 hours for a mediocre dinner that cost almost $300 (although we had 4 bottles of wine). I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Went there for the first time with my husband the other night. The food was fine...nothing to write home about. Very good ambience. However, our food took such a long time...I don't know what happened, maybe the waiter forgot to ring it in, but we were there for over three hours, and all we ordered was an app, a salad, a magherita pizza (the easiest ever) and pasta with olive oil and garlic (again, not complicated at all). It took over an hour for the mains to come out after our salad. When we asked about it, twice, the server said they were busy (even though there were only four other tables in the entire restaurant, mostly two tops). No apology. We almost got up and left because it took such a long time and I was getting tired, but my husband didn't want to be rude. At the end of the meal the server ended up bringing out a complimentary dessert, but I didn't want that...just my food! All in all it was not worth the hassle. Next time we'll definitely go elsewhere. This place will not get our patronage again. read more

Loved this place! Not only was the food amazing, but the service was impeccable. The staff was constantly checking on us to make sure we were ok and if we needed anything. The food came out fast and tasted amazing. Portion sizes were perfect. They did not have the wine my boyfriend and I wanted and the waiter was able to suggest something comparable. It was great! So where do I start the prices of this restaurant are as if you are going out to dine in the city but its located in Ditmars. The prices are way too high one glass of wine costs 16 dollars in which they do not even give you half a glass full of wine. Five dollars for the smallest glass coke bottle you will ever see. Food is good but the service needs to be improved. I asked for marinara sauce for my calamari but it never showed up and they were not even busy. I would not recommend this place you can find a better place with good food for cheaper prices. read more
