Stopped by this bakery on my way to work and the smell alone pulled me inside. If you have a sweet tooth, this is definitely the spot. From cookies to cupcakes and cakes, I honestly didn't even know where to start because everything looked so good. The displays are packed with fresh desserts and classic Italian pastries and they also offer a variety of coffee and espresso drinks to pair with them. Well I used to always get birthday cakes here they are delicious but they have changed. I came here to get a cake for a friend I get a cake for all housemates. They do have nice choices been around since the beginning of the century. It's a very nice location offering coffees and fresh sandwiches.and cakes made from scratch. I went to get a slice of st honore cake for my grandmother since it's her favorite cake and the boy working told us they aren't cutting into the cake until 1pm to keep it fresh for the rush. I checked the time when i ordered and it was 11:37am. Just a little odd they have a paying customer but wont cut a cake for another 1.5 hours to keep it fresh. Small pastry shop right on Washington Square. Throughly enjoyed getting a breakfast sandwich and a latte and walking across the street to eat and watch the Tai Chi ladies. So good!! We tried the princess slice and the tres leches. Both were delicious. Princess cake was def a lil too sweet and I would never be able to finish a whole slice myself, but worth getting. We come here for the tasty selection of Italian cookies that they sell by the pound.. mix and match.. Our favorites include Allumette Raspberry, mini Palmiers, crunchy sprinkle cookies and especially the Amaretti (almond macaron) and Pignole (Amaretti's with whole Pine nut toppings). Get maybe 4-6 of each and you'll have a pounds worth to take home in a tidy bakery box in no time! They pack the cookies in groups carefully separated by bakery paper (caution - the raspberry cookies stick to this, so transfer to a cookie container as soon as you get home!). We've come here for years, even back when they were in their old location on Stockton St. The prices seem pretty reasonable for the cookies, at least compared to what we've seen elsewhere, yet the quality is easily comparable or better.. The service is friendly and cheerful, and the vibe is classic old school as if this was in NYC or somewhere! There's tables and chairs just outside to enjoy your treats, or head on over to Washington Park to the park benches if the weather allows! My family and I usually LOVE this place! However, we did not have the best experience yesterday. The gentleman behind the counter who helped us was quite rude and told us, "you need to have more patience!" When we asked to pay. A little too aggressive for me, especially with a 4 year old present. Some of their cakes are good (strawberry) some are nothing to write home about (Princess). Authentic ambiance and typically the service is friendly. However, I don't think we will be back. Preface: I was on a mission to find the one of the best tiramisu cakes in the bay area for a good friend's birthday, and initially settled on Stella but found out they get their tiramisu from Victoria Pastry so off to the source I went. I preordered and paid for the cake online at 11pm and got an immediate confirmation that my cake would be ready by 8:30am the next day. I happened to submitting my passport to the China Consulate for the visa so this was only an 11 drive from there. Parking was awful due to ongoing construction, but I was able to quickly get my cake. My friend sent me a video of her eating the it later that night ands said it was delicious. I personally picked up a cannoli for me and my partner. It was not too sweet or heavy, but had a fantastic shell and texture. read more
