I tried Viet Kitchen and honestly... it was a NOPE for me. I stopped by while I was in the area grabbing water from ALDI and decided to pick up a quick appetizer before going home to cooking dinner. I ordered the shrimp rolls and the egg rolls (the combo with shrimp, pork, and other fillings). I will say the service was fast and friendly and the place itself looked super cute. I got everything to-go. But the food (and quality) was a SUPER MISS for me. The shrimp in the shrimp rolls tasted really low qualitY almost mushy. I even took multiple bites just to make sure I wasn't tripping. The egg rolls were okay. Long story short, I didn't finish any of it. Within about 3-4 hours, I started feeling sick and it completely turned me off from even making dinner. I know this spot seems popular, but my experience was not the best. Maybe it's just a difference in taste, but for me, I should've trusted my gut. I'm usually a sucker for shrimp rolls, but this time lesson learned. It was really cold day and my wife and daughter were feeling under the weather. What better meal than a hot soup, specifically a pho when you're sick? We ordered via Postmates and they packaged everything perfectly. We ordered the Oxtail Pho and Pho Viet Kitchen. Both phos had the meats and veggies in a separate bowl and soup/broth in another container. It was great! No soggy noodles or overcooked meats here! The meats were soft and tender, the broth was so comforting and full of flavor. Simply delicious and still hot! We also ordered the Banh Mi Viet Kitchen to save for dinner and it too was good! Bread was crispy and fresh - just a great sandwich all around! The jalapeños this time were spicy and gave it the right amount of kick that I love. My wife loves Banh Mi sandwiches so I jumped in the car and off to Panorama City to grab lunch for my her. She wanted the Viet Kitchen Banh Mi, a Vietnamese version of a Poor Boy She liked the ratio of vegetables to meat. My wife isn't a big meat eater so she liked that the sandwich had more vegetables than meat. The bun was soft and chewy, the right size sandwich. The broth isn't the best I've ever tried, but it was packaged well and came quickly. I loved the oxtail - it literally fell off the bone and was really satiating on an empty stomach. I ordered the V.5 Viet Kitchen Vermicelli Salad (lemongrass beef, grilled shrimp & egg roll vermicelli salad). The noodles were previously cooked and microwaved in a plastic bag. The grilled shrimp were old and nearly rotten (it had a really funky sour taste). These shrimp were not freshly grilled and were also reheated in the microwave. The egg roll was soggy. My dad ordered the R.8 - Shaking Beef Rice Dish. His orange rice was also microwaved! His beef also had a funky sour taste. My boyfriend ordered the R.2 - Grilled Beef Rice Dish. His meat was super tough and dry. Probably microwaved... My aunt didn't comment on her pork vermicelli salad, but it didn't look too appealing. Viet Kitchen is my new go to pho spot in the Valley. I haven't tried much Vietnamese restaurants in the valley yet so take my advice with a grain of salt. I came here with my friends on a friday afternoon and there was limited seating available (probably around 14 seats in the entire restaurant). I ordered the Pho Viet Kitchen soup which is a combination beef pho with brisket, tendon, tripe, and flank. Overall the soup was tasty! I'd give the soup around 4 stars because I wish the flavor was a bit stronger. The reason i'm giving this place 3 stars, however, is because the cashier made a mistake in charging each of my friends $14 extra for a tip since we paid separately. If my friends did not catch the mistake, they would have been scammed $14 each! I will be sure to come back to this restaurant in the future and update my review to 4 stars if no mistakes are made. read more
