We went to dinner on 2/22/14 and our dinner service started a little rocky. We had a 7pm reservation for 4 and the manager was no where to be found to seat us. Finally, another staff member sat us. When we went to place the app order we mentioned to waiter that we would like to wait to place entree. He seemed very upset by this and told us that if you don't place the entree order now we might not get our food. I've never heard this before from a waiter!! At the end of a meal the waiter swooshed away the dishes, even the one my guest was still eating! I've never felt so blatently rushed at a Saturday night meal!! The only saving grace was the delicious food. Also, it is VERY noisy in the dining area. Don't dine here if you want a romantic dinner or to be able to converse across the table. read more

Fantastic service. Baked clams were fresh not salty. Shrimp cocktail meaty, chilled presented nicely. The portobello pizzetta was tasty drizzled with a delicious Balsamic. Went with a couple of girlfriends and our experience started off nicely but then went downhill. We requested to be outside, which they accommodated and we were greeted by our waiter immediately. Some friends ordered sangria and said it tasted like juice so they did not get anymore after their first glass. We found our waiter to be too over bearing (trying to make jokes every other minute, standing right next to our table after we said we need more time to look at the menu) but I understand that he was trying to be nice. Once our entrees were dropped off we didn't see him again until after we were given the check! In between We suddenly had a new waiter who offered us dessert, which is fine because I understand servers can get busy with others tables. However After dessert and coffee was served to us we waited approx 30-45 for anyone (either waiter 1 or 2) to come back to us. Not to mention 3 out of the 4 desserts were pretty terrible... do not get the creme brulee (it was cold), apple strudel (no taste), or Italian cheesecake (did not taste good). After finally receiving the check The waiter had no explanation as to why we havnt been checked on in a long time and was sorry that dessert was bad so he took some money off so we were happy about that. The good things we had: artichoke heart, shrimp scampi, steak, and pasta dish with chicken and arugula (forgot the name). I'll give it another chance because I loved the live entertainment and the fact it was by the water but I would love it if we received the same hospitality as others. It seemed like if you weren't well known there or not old school Italian or not buying a lot of drinks, you were ignored. read more

We went to this restaurant for the second time, even though the first visit resulted in our reservation not being honored. This past Saturday, our reservation was honored within a reasonable amount of time, but,unlike the regulars who like to extoll the virtues of this restaurant, the Service was past invisible. We waited 20 minutes with no menus being presented or any waiters making themselves available. I went out to the front to find the cordial owner, and he was nowhere to be found. Another waiter sensed our growing disappointment and had menus brought over. Our waiter finally appeared and, nothing about specials, etc. Another 10 minutes went by and a different waiter came and took our order. Nothing from our waiter until it was time for dessert ( not a chance) and the check ( not a moment too soon). Waiter was left a minimal tip , which, by the way, was the same amount as the car valet, who was appreciative. I'm sure this place will continue to be busy withy regulars on weekends, but I can assure you of two patrons who will never return. This is a white tablecloth restaurant with commensurate pricing. The specials are recited by waiters with heavy accents and prices not given; I prefer that specials be put on a separate page where you can see the ingredients and the prices. The waiters take your order and note which seat gets which dish -- which is the right way to do it. However, the food runners don't compare the food orders to the seats and bring everything to that table and ask "who gets the ....?" -- which is the wrong way to do it. That's what they do at a diner, not at a place with these prices. Wish the service was as good as the food is! Update: had dinner for 6 - each person had a drink, appetizer, entree. No dessert or coffee. Total with tip was $330. The food runners still don't know who gets what dish. They try to clear plates before all are done eating. This place is a hidden gem. It's located on the water in a residential area. It's so nice and quiet and isolated from everything else that's going on. I've been here many times with my extended family and I haven't had a bad meal yet. In the nice weather, it's great to sit outside, and during the winter it's a nice cozy traditional Italian restaurant inside. The wait staff is excellent and the owners are great! My mother and I went for dinner on a Friday night. We expected to have to wait. The hostess told us 10 minutes. We were fine with this, and said we would be waiting at the bar. After about 25 minutes, we realized people who had arrived after us were being seated. We asked how much longer, and the hostess said 10 more minutes. 40 MINUTES later, we still had not be seated. Finally, we complained to the owner, and he sat us. Once we were seated, our table did not have any place settings and we did not have menus. We Waited ANOTHER 20 minutes with no attention from the wait staff. We never got any place settings. No menus. Finally, we got up and walked out. My family and I eat out a lot, and we are neighborhood people. This was legitimately the worst I have ever been treated at a restaurant. We went there for my wifes birthday. We were seated @ 7pm did not get our food until 8:45pm. One of the orders was to include mash potato's we recieved sliced potato's instead when we questioned the waiter he said what would you want me to do. The waiter had a major attitude problem. The food was just ok and the portions were small. Depending on what you value most in a restaurant, Villa D'Aqua could fall anywhere from 1-5 on a 5 star rating system in my opinion. The food is some of the best I could expect to have and worthy of a 5 star rating. The portions however, are somewhat small relative to what I have come to expect at similar restaurants, but not unsatisfying and are fairly cheaper than these same restaurants. The one negative I feel the need to highlight is the poor service. While the staff is very friendly and polite, they move extremely slowly and are unresponsive to requests. My party sat, on a Monday night, for over 20 minutes waiting for menus and had to remind the waiters several times for items we ordered. read more

Worst experience ever!!!!.....This place used to be pretty good. It was a nice night and we sat outside as did most all other customers. Started off with two baskets of old stale bread for our large party and never got any better. Some of the worst service we have ever experienced. We sat for a hour and a half and still had not received our entrees and we were a party of 10. Two owners / managers or whoever they were clearly knew what was going on and did nothing!!!!!.It wasnt just our table that was lacking proper service many people were angry and upset..Our table alone spent over $400 for very mediocre food and terrible terrible service. Passed the place in bellmore 100 times and never thought of going but glad we finally did. The food was excellent! Had a shrimp in Gorgonzola cream sauce appetizer that was so good we used a basket of bread to get all the sauce up! The portions were large and filling. I had a monk fish special that was very good and my wife had the short ribs which was left plenty to take home. If I had any negative it would be the place is very loud on Saturday night when full so if looking for a quiet or romantic spot this would not be my choice. Valet parking was a plus as parking is tight and they have a bar with TV if you get there early and have to wait. I would say give them a try. read more

Spent last night (7.11.15) at this restaurant. It is probably my 7th or 8th visit there over the last 3 year. Beautiful Saturday night. The inside was packed and we made reservations to celebrate a friend's birthday and sat outside. Couldn't have been a nicer evening. Because it was outdoors and warm, we asked if the bar tender made Mojitos. The first one was barely passable and the 2nd round was undrinkable and returned. We ordered pastas and baked clams as appetizers . I have had the clams numerous times and these were overly cooked and tasteless. The gnocchi with basil was tasteless and I have this dish at this restaurant at least 3 times. Onward to the main course. I ordered the short ribs and it was very good. Others ordered dishes that were average. The problem was, it was more than 1 1/2 hours between appetizers and the main course. Not kidding. We were at the restaurant from 7:30 to 11;00 and asked 3 times for the check. I would have left well before the entrees but did not want to further ruin a friend's birthday. I have no clue why this place is so severely understaffed. The service at this restaurant is always spotty, but this was unbearable. They have a large party/catering room upstairs and you would think that they could handle a crowd with reservations on a beautiful Saturday night. . read more

My girlfriend and I wanted to have dinner outside Monday night, we found this restaurant on the Web. I called and spoke to Tom and asked if they had outside seating available, he reply's "absolutely come on down!" I should mention they had a huge 80 person function that evening and were extremely busy, but you would never notice because of the incredible service we received. They sat us immediately outside on the water, which has an amazing view, and brought us warm bread and three different spreads to accompany them. All absolutely great. Our waiter was the sweetest man you would ever meet and we felt like he was our family in a way by the end of our dinner. The food: UNBELIEVABLE! I cannot describe how good it was in words truly. The Host even offered to buy us a drink on the house just because we were first time customers and because they are so nice. But we had to make a movie and had to run. This wonderful restaurant was wiped out by Super Storm Sandy and has just reopened. The decor is updated but the standards for excellent service and food remains. Owner Tom has put a great deal of money and energy to reopen the only waterfront restaurant in Bellmore, and his loyal customers are grateful for that. I will get the positive elements out of the way before turning my attention to what I didn't like. The food was fantastic, perhaps some of the best Italian food on Long Island. Try the salmon ravioli if offered, it was unbelievable. But now let's talk about Tom and his staff. We were greeted at the door by nobody. There was a terrible lounge singer at the bar. We walked through the bar looking for anyone resembling a host or a hostess. We advised a waiter of our 8pm reservations. He nodded and disappeared. There was a guy roaming the restaurant with his tie hanging around his neck. The tie was not in a knot, it was hanging on him with each end draped over each shoulder. It looked ridiculous. This turned out to be Tom. Tom got us a good table in the back. The wait staff was weak. They overcharged us for wine we did not drink. This is certainly a place to check out, the food makes looking at Tom's tie and dealing with his apathetic wait staff worth your time. read more

This LOCAL restaurant came recommended by a friend. We eat out often and always try to support our local business.. Our family(myself, my husband and our two children) arrived at about 7pm on a Saturday night. No One greeted us, there was what appeared to be a waitress or hostess sitting at a table in front doing what appeared to be administrative duties. The owner/manager, looked past us to THREE other parties. There appeared to be several tables available, while live music played.. He finally approached us and while giving us the once over asked "How many"? "Do have a reservation?" Oh NOPE sorry....ok good night." Thumbs up to villa d'aqua. Went there for the New Years Eve party. This was my first time there. The food was excellent and the portions were more than adequate. The waiter was great---- after taking the order for food there was not a long wait for it to get to the table and it was the right temperature. I went to this place with my wife and another couple. This place has changed over a few times over the past few years. It is right on the canal on the East Bay peninsula South of Merrick Road in Bellmore. We had 8 PM reservations and they took us as soon as we arrived. We were greeted at the door by the hostess and the owner of the restaurant who were both very friendly. I ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer which was good, but I didn't love the brown sauce it was sitting it. It wasn't bad, just not what I'm used to when I order stuffed mushrooms. I ordered the Shrimp Fra Diavolo for my entree. It was excellent. The portion was a moderate size with very fresh jumbo shrimp over pasta that was Al dente. I was expecting it to be a little spicy based on my previous experience with Fra Diavolo dishes, but it wasn't. I was ok with that. I had the Tiramisu for dessert which was also excellent. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food they have to offer.. The service was very good. The only complaint I have about this place is the noise level. When the restaurant is full the acoustics make it very noisy. It was difficult to have a conversation without talking really loud, almost yelling. I would definitely go back. read more

She put the deposit down and had a contract with them and upon calling to confirm a menu, they told my friend that they couldn't put them in the room because SOMEONE WITH A BIGGER PARTY WANTED THE ROOM!! Had a reservation for 4 for Sunday, September 22nd, celebrating a milestone. We were not greeted when we arrived, in fact we were ignored. After about 5 minutes of standing in front of the hostess, the annoyed looking hostess asked if she could help us.. We said we had a reservation, she checked it and then said "Lets go". Really? It went downhill from there. We should have left. Service was extremely slow and a cold attitude from our waiter. Each course was served way too slow and when drinks were finished, there was no one asking if we wanted another cocktail. We had to ask for another round. We asked for a glass and lime for a beer, which never came until we asked again. The bread basket was cold and tasteless. Our waiter never checked on our table or asked if we were enjoying the food. The friendliest people were the water person and the food runner. We did enjoy the taste of the food itself, but the rest was very disappointing. Just came from home from dinner, where do we start. Ok let's start from beginning hostess or whoever she was brings us outside and points to a table for me and my wife to sit, it's dirty and has just one chair. Great so we sit at the table behind that one, doesn't get better from here folks. Waiter was terrible never got menus took our drink order and got it before handed menus. Never complain about getting a drink that fast but when it's the only drink you have the entire dinner because the waiter doesn't come back to your table the whole time. Finally comes back after sitting for 30 minutes after finishing dinner, if he was attentive to his customers we would have had another 4-6 drinks. To end the nite give waiter my credit card and it ends up at the wrong table. Safe to say not going back to this place. Came here on the fourth of July expecting it to be crazy or dead because of the holiday. Much to my surprise the place was a little busy and was absolutely beautiful outside with the flowers, water and singer. Our server was phenomenal, and was so nice. The appetizer was great, the martinis were great but my issue came with the Lobster special. The lobster was extremely over cooked and at some point I gave up on it and ate the clams and mussels on the plate. The lobster was also in the shell covered in red sauce which inevitably was covering my hands, the table and my dress because of how difficult it was to open it up and eat it. I would have preferred if it was opened for me or not covered in red sauce. My boyfriends white clam linguine was fantastic, I would come back for that. I did recommend it to friends and will give it another chance, its to beautiful and relaxing with a great wait staff not too. read more
