    Eggplant parm; spaghetti (4/12/25)

Holy Moses! Tremendous old Italian restaurant nestled on 9th Street. I actually loved the understated decor (brick walls, family photos, religious statues, etc!) This place is the epitome of Italian culture and reminded me of how very much I love being Italian! (We have the love, the food, the clothes!) The meatball app was sick good tender, and the gravy was amazing (you can buy jars of it!) I had eggplant parm and my dapper date, veal parm. Both so tender and just perfect! I know I said OMG a few times and was SMH!!! I really liked my spaghetti side too - I usually don't eat spaghetti but forgot to sub it because Im "in like" so deep ;) Ahh, the bread from Sarcones that we dipped in olive oil with grated cheese, salt and pepper! Dear God in heaven- lol! I need to go back and eat my way through the extensive menu (look on the wall or on their sweet small paper menus!) Long bar when you walk in to chill and socialize at. I had a Malibu Bay Breeze; "he" had two chocolate martinis. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Big time props to the darling owner , Pippy, and our on point stellar server, Rita! I honest to God have no negatives. We were shopping in the Italian Market, and the kids needed to eat something quickly, so we stopped at Villa Di Roma. They graciously made us feel at home - even with a 9 month old infant and 3 1/2 year old very hungry toddler! I got the meatballs - they were delicious! Others had spaghetti and raviolis, which they also enjoyed! If you're at the Market, and want to have a delicious Italian meatball, Villa Di Roma serves them up!

I read a lot of reviews that the waitress was rude, we did not have that experience! It is busy and she tries to be personable so the waitress time may vary for her to return back to you. Our waitress recommended that we try another local gem for dessert when she found out we were visiting from out of state. The other reviewers also mentioned the meatballs! They did not dis's appointment! We had two sides (4 total meatballs) and soaked up the sauce with the complimentary fresh bread. Meatballs were a 10/10 My date got the lasagna. I prefer more noodles and meat with less ricotta cheese. It had pieces of the meatballs in the lasagna and they use the same red sauce. I think it was very good, I give it a 8.5/10, however I was ready for a complete change of my pallet. I got the shrimp scampi and it was perfect! Huge shrimps that I cut into threes to ensure I had enough shrimp for each bite of my pasta. I had the penne pasta with helped soak up all that delicious buttery and lemon flavored scampi sauce. This is a true local gem, small family business in the heart of the Italian Market District in Philadelphia. Support local and enjoy the best home cooked Italian meal in Philly!

Enjoyed everything about Villa de Roma. Dined solo and ate at the bar. Had a friendly chat with the bartender while I waited for my meal. Highly recommend the veal Sicilian.

Everything about this restaurant is charming. Food is great! It's honestly like visiting family each time I go.

Real classic spot We got there right at opening, seated in the back room. Free bread and butter, some pricy items -- the few things I tried was tasty (salad n eggplant) Cash only

Our trip to Philadelphia was to go to a Phillies game and we had a great time. However, one of the biggest highlights of the trip was our dinner here, at Villa Di Roma. It's located on 9th Street in "The Italian Market" and the street alone set the tone for what was to come as we entered this restaurant. The decor was old school, it made me feel like I was on the movie set of a good mob movie and/or Frank Sinatra was about to walk in. The service was fantastic and the food was amazingly authentic Italian. We started with an order of Garlic Bread which was mouth watering good. I ordered the Sausage & Peppers and Renee had Chicken Marsala. Our meal was flavorful and felt like "My Nona" cooked it. I'm not Italian but my "Grandma" was a great cook. I'm not sure when we will return to Philadelphia but whenever that is we will definitely return to Villa Di Roma.

What took us so long? How did we not come here before? This is the real deal - old world Italian family dinner. It doesn't get much better than this - a comfortable "going back home to Nonna's place" where you're treated like family. It's loud, it's fun, it's real life with great food and nostalgia. House Pisano in carafe, meatballs that people drive across multiple states to experience, al Dente pasta - each dish one better than the next. Veal parm with eggplant, Sicilian style pasta bakes, Sarcones seeded bread to spounze up the tasty gravy and traditional desserts like Tartufo are off the hook. The quality of the food and atmosphere will bring us back again and again. Don't sleep on this one, bring cash, and Saturday's are walk-in first come first serve. Modest wait so enjoy the bartenders with a glass of vino until seated. Pip makes the place hum like a well oiled Singer sewing machine.

Great food, very warm & friendly staff. Enjoyed their stuffed mushrooms with crab meat. Their classic Spaghetti with meatball was just perfect. Pasta Di Linguine has this seafood broth sauce with lumps of crab and shrimp, the star of the day for me. Overall, it was outstanding! Parking is a bit tough along 9th, but there are a few space along Christian St. near John's Water Ice, a 5 min walk.

I actually celebrated my birthday here last year and this place is always a hit, never a miss! We started with the cucumber and tomato salad and the country bread, and what a delicious combination! We also ordered a side of olive oil, and they seriously have some of the best olive oil I've had in a while. I definitely recommend getting some on the side to dip your country bread in. Trust me! We paired everything with a pitcher of sangria, which gives you about four drinks and was much more economical than ordering individual cocktails. I finally tried the chicken Parmesan, and boy, am I kicking myself for not trying it sooner! The chicken breast was thick, juicy, moist, and perfectly crunchy. Some places make their chicken Parm so thin that it barely feels like you're eating chicken, but this was an actual substantial piece of chicken with the perfect bite. Our waitress told me I could swap out the pasta and sauce that normally come with the chicken Parmesan, so of course I did! I got the rigatoni with vodka sauce, and it was DELIGHTFUL. The portion was massive, so I took leftovers home and yes, I absolutely ate them the very next day! My fiancé got the branzino and wanted something lighter so he could help me with the rigatoni. His plate was beautifully presented, the fish tasted incredibly fresh, and it was exactly what he wanted. Overall, we had another wonderful experience. This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll definitely be back! A special shoutout to our waitress, who was absolutely delightful and told me I could change the pasta and sauce with my chicken Parmesan. You changed my life! You have no idea how happy you made me. I wish I had gotten your name, but truly, everyone there is always so lovely. Thank you for another amazing experience!

The arancini was so decadent and the garlic bread came with a head of garlic confit - both were perfectly appetizers. We also got the shrimp pasta and lobster pasta and both were delicious! The lobster pasta was very filling, so I recommend the shrimp pasta if you want something on the lighter side. The service was good, but there was a wait both times we strolled by (Sunday and Tuesday), so would recommend making a res. The only caveat is that I would not recommend coming here with a party larger than 4 people, the restaurant is very small and rustic and can't fit a larger party. It was fine for us as we were able to push some outside tables together (and it was a beautiful evening), but I do wish we could have sat inside.

Our server apologized for a delay in taking our drink orders. She was attentive the rest of our meal. I ordered a Charles deGaulle whiskey cocktail. Lemon, aperol and simple syrup added a refreshing twist. For entrees, my wife ordered the pacherri; a simple pork ragu with tender broccoli rabe, Parmesan, stracciatello and basil. The dish was delicious. I enjoyed my plate of sea-inspired tonnarelli nero. Bay scallops in crab ragu with fennel sofrito. Served with squid ink pasta that imparted a slight brininess. The pasta was cooked pangrattato style-- coated in panko bread crumbs and garlic. The dish had many flavors but they all came back to the theme. The short rib over polenta was probably my favorite thing on the table - it fell apart easily and the polenta underneath wasn't as heavy as I expected it to be. The restaurant has a great two-level layout: a bustling coffee bar and small Italian market on the lower level, and a wine bar restaurant upstairs. It was a beautiful day, so outdoor seating was available, but after the hostess explained that the full menu is served on both levels, we opted to sit upstairs in the wine bar. Our server was fantastic--friendly, immediate, and quick to offer sparkling or tap water while handing us all the options. They offer a main lunch menu, a specials menu, and a great lunchtime deal with a limited $20 per person fixed menu. We started by sharing the mussels in a white garlic sauce. They were delicious, and the table bread dipped into the leftover garlic juices was absolutely delightful! For our main courses, my daughter got the spaghetti carbonara, and I ordered the chitarra pasta with red chili. Both pastas were cooked perfectly al dente and came in very satisfying portion sizes. My daughter's carbonara was even served with a savory bacon-flavored gelato on top! My only minor critique of my dish was that the pork was a bit fattier than I prefer and wasn't cooked as crisp as I'd like, but the flavor was still great. We couldn't leave without dessert, so we both got gelato. I had the amaretto and salted caramel, while my daughter went with dark chocolate and salted caramel. Both were insanely good--super creamy, rich, and full of flavor. Overall, the bill was surprisingly reasonable given how much quality food we enjoyed. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu, but especially for that unbelievable gelato!

Everything was as perfect as it could be why is that because this restaurants been doing it for over 126 years they know a thing or two their customers and had to prepare plate delicious meals. Our server, Justin came over to greet us. We got into some conversation before we even touched upon the food. He was exceptional at his run through the menu, his explanations on preparations handling questions. This was definitely not his first, not his second and not his third rodeo he's definitely a professional at what he does. Upon review of the menu we started off with steamed clams and a spicy marinara and actually asked for fra Diavlo hence they gave it an additional hit of spice. It had a nice kick. It was very tasty. My wife was going back-and-forth between their signature lasagna and a little weak weenie with crab Bianco and in the end she went with the baked lasagna oh my goodness the size of that piece on the plate we took half home. She certainly enjoyed her. For me, I went with the veal Catherine, the medallions veal with shrimp, lump crab meat, and fresh tomato and a Bianco sauce the plating presentation I can't describe you'll just have to see my photograph. I've never seen it like this before and it was extremely tasty. Very tender I would certainly get that dish again. And since I am not a pasta eater, I ordered a side vegetable of broccoli Rob. And we ordered a bottle of the Italian Montepuliciano wine, what was the perfect compliment to our dinner? And this was my birthday. My wife was surprising me she had already pre-ordered their homemade tiramisu with ladyfingers, which would wind up taking with us cause we were kind of full and had later that night at one of our favorite coffee houses in Philly and boy that dessert was perfect and I'm glad we waited. Again, everybody was smiles, friendly, and helpful. The place of spotless and you really feel like you're in someone's home.
