The food here was very delicious and made in QuickTime. I had shrimp with vegetables, and they let you do half chow mein and half rice, which is really good. The food was not greasy at all or even oily. The vegetables were very fresh. There was only one waitress who was answering the calls for food to go, busing tables and waiting on people. She was really hustling; And I'm really happy the patrons in the restaurant were very patient with her. The restaurant was very clean, no sticky tables or salt and pepper shaker issues. Sometimes the hole in the wall joints make THE best food; and sometimes, you kinda wish you hadn't stopped. I am always in search of great Chinese food, and despite trying some of the same places over & over out of convenience, I still havent found what Im looking for. Villa Fat was that off the beaten path discovery that I was totally excited about. We ordered take out, and crossed our fingers. The inside was average, not much to write about. It was also devoid of people and good food smells. My number one rule is that with the exception of 5 star, white linen table cloth restaurants, most great food joints should smell like good food is happening all around. If you dont smell goodness, leave. Really. This is a proven theory that the food will taste like what you smell. I hate when I'm correct like this. We ordered mongolian beef with light onions, chicken chow mein, and orange chicken. The to go boxes were sizable, and I had asked for chop sticks for four. They only gave us two sets go chop sticks, and two stale fortune cookies. The prices are around $10.00 per entree. The thin plastic bag could barely hold the food, and I wondered why they hadn't used an additional bag. The chow mein was overflowing with noodles, and some chicken. The mongolian beef container was sparse, and while my pics look like some good eats were about to be enjoyed, the blandness was enhanced by the same blandness as the noodles. Look, when you have to add any sauce to a meal, all you're doing is covering up, or trying to make your food taste like something. Soy sauce shouldn't be given a star rating. We let the beef sit in hopes that it would soak up the juices, and taste like something good. Meh is all i can say. Do you believe in miracles? Well, nows the time to start! The orange chicken was DELICIOUS! Don't ask, because I dont know how its even possible, but the orange chicken was tender, did not have that overly fried coating that was greasy. It had a light orange flavored sauce, that just balanced the light coating, and juicy chicken. I loved that they added two large slices of fresh orange, as well as, some chunks of orange. It was one of the best orange chicken dishes that I have had in a long time. I might go back if im craving orange chicken, and if youre daring, you may want to give it a try. Maybe their other dishes are better. Maybe not. My fortune in my cookie said that I would be making new discoveries that would bring me happiness. Definitely do not recommend! Food is alright. I've been to this place about 3 times now and this is the last time for sure now. First time, I dined in and after we were heading out server demanded tip. I was shocked as I've never had that happen but my husband is too nice and he still provided her a tip even though they never came once after they brought us our food. I provide tip based on service. Second time food did not taste as good as first time so I thought maybe it was because we arrived during closing time. And this last time I only bought one chow mein and one rice plate. Once again, we stopped off at our delicious local Chinese restaurant for a "to go" order of mushu pork (with extra plum sauce) and sesame chicken. Both were fresh and yummy--the sesame chicken was still crispy after driving 10 minutes too! Staff was very friendly and things looked very clean. If we hadn't been in a hurry we would have felt comfortable dining in. I highly recommend this neighborhood restaurant! read more

One thing I have noticed is that when they start to be less popular and are headed out of business they cut down on how much they give out each meal... I have noticed that the portions at Villa Fats have been getting smaller and smaller. We live half the yr in Hawaii and the food there is just not as good not close. So I have been ordering it often and noticed them smaller. Today I ordered my 3rd one in the last week General tao Chicken. It was just a little over half the size of the ones we got when we came back in March. Advice that will surely end the business you have. People notice. But still tasty to bad. This longtime local Chinese restaurant changed hands about one year ago. We decided to finally give it a try and were pleasantly surprised. They finally got their liquor license so we could enjoy a beer with our egg rolls, pot stickers and rice! I had been missing that. Everything is fresh and much cleaner than before. However, the prices are a couple of bucks higher. The food was crisp, hot and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We'll return soon. read more

I really want to love Villa fat, because it's a local small business, and the greeter was so kind and friendly, but for you Rio Linda folks, there is so much better Chinese Food than Villa Fat. Here was my take on the meal today: The House wonton soup was good, but the wontons were below average small, and they are skimping on the dumpling size. The house egg Foo young is supposed to have chicken, pork, and shrimp, but I only got pork in my pancake. And, the pancake was either burned or the oil was rancid, I couldn't tell. The sauce was good however. The kung pao shrimp dish we order was average, nothing to blow your socks off. So, my impression of this restaurant is that the cook needs to put his heart into his recipes, add a little pop to his dishes, don't skimp on portions sizes, don't burn your customers food or use rancid oil, and give your customers your very best. You have a local community that wants to support you and see you succeed. Give Rio Linda your best and they will stay loyal. I will come back and give this restaurant another shot. I ordered takeout from here last weekend while I was in the area. I ordered 2 lunch special plates- one with orange chicken and one with sweet and sour chicken- both with fried rice as the side. The restaurant was clean and the lady working was very friendly. The prices were very fair for the lunch specials. However, the portions were slightly smaller than other Chinese restaurants. I found the fried rice to have little flavor and it had a strange flavor....I wouldn't want to eat it again.
