A fellow Yelper Ron R. had reviewed this place, and I was in Jacksonville for work so I decided to try this place when I was headed back to JAX Airport. The parking lot is small, but I was able to find a parking spot. During busy times, I'm sure this could be a struggle so keep that in mind. When entering, I was a tad bit confused on the setup of this location and wish I read more reviews to know. I ended up wandering slightly to get a drink, then find a seat. A staff member in animal print advised she'd be with me shortly and brought a menu. She was incredibly friendly and attentive during my visit. What I Ordered: - Coffee: you grab yourself, which does mean you'll also need to refill yourself. I was not personally a fan of this setup, but I don't like counter service style in general. - Pancake: Just as stated in other reviews, these are delicious. I loved the flavor and texture of these. Definitely a must order item here in my opinion, and I see why they'd have an all you can eat pancake special on Tuesdays. - Turkey Sausage: after a couple weeks of my hotel only having Turkey bacon, this was a nice treat. Typical restaurant supply order you'd get at most restaurants, but cooked well with the flavor you expect. - Over Easy Eggs: slightly overdone on one egg for over easy, but still delicious regardless. - Hashbrowns: these were surprisingly delicious and the perfect amount of crispy. I want to commend Linleigh for her outstanding service! After we placed our order, she repeated it back to ensure that she understood us correctly, which demonstrates someone who is truly committed to their occupation! Management needs to commend her! The pancakes well, I'm not sure where to begin not only where they are the best I've ever had and the pecans were plentiful, but they made it exactly how I wanted it. It is very hard to find a restaurant that will make pancakes to the specifications of the customer. I was most impressed with how they did it today because it truly was perfection. Our Men's Breakfast church group enjoys visiting Village Bread Cafe twice a year - June and December, a they've never disappointed! They are a terrific place to visit if you want to treat yourself and/or family to an awesome breakfast! This is a classic ma and pa shop with the appearance that it's been around for a decent number of years. They offer all the good stuff you'd expect from a mostly breakfast shop, with some variations of classic breakfast dishes. The Village Breakfast I ordered on this day was one of those variations. It was a nice mix of veggies (onions, green bell peppers, etc.), potatoes, along with scrambled eggs on top (you can choose how you want the eggs cooked for your plate. I love scrambled eggs). This breakfast reminded me of a southwestern omelette, except it wasn't wrapped. Its size was good and filling. I left a happy hombre! I noticed from some of the plates the men in the group chose that they seemed to be favorable to the pancake and eggs courses. In all they really looked good and I'd like to give it a go perhaps on the next visit in December! In the past, I chose the biscuits and gravy. It was a little too salty on my last visit, so the new dish I tried this time was a good replacement. You'll find some nice booth seating here, table areas that are good for groups, and a separate room in the back for larger groups as well, which, I believe, needs to be reserved. This restaurant is roomy, spaced well in the seating, and has a terrific coffee and condiments counter. I give them credit for the coffee they brew here. It's really terrific! I save my final remarks for the servers here at Village Bread Cafe. They are truly outstanding! They all went the extra mile to see that we were checked up on regularly and handled any special needs we had immediately. I had to come back to my old stomping ground, Village Bread! The have Pancake Tuesdays. All you can eat for $8.50. What I did not like this go around os the build youe omelet. Each addition cost $1 a pop. It is the way of the economy now. Customers ate nickel and dime for everything. The omelet should have been bigger but it was tasty with the 3 items I got mushrooms, peeper.and onions. I did not get the cheese for another $1. I ate and ran. It was a nice quiet breakfast Village Bread is doing table service. I thought they always did table service. I will be back to take Wifey to all you can eat pancakes on Tuesday!! read more

EVERYTHING WENT WELL! My friend & I were in the mood for breakfast & we found a spectacular breakfast at the Village Bread Cafe! We both had the country breakfast: eggs (cooked perfectly), bacon/sausage & hash browns (also cooked perfectly!) The setting is bright & welcoming. You can get table service or use self service. We opted for table service (we're both over 80 so carrying drinks while using a cane is a challenge.) The service was pleasant & excellent. I'll be back again & again! I've heard about this place for years but I always remember it after I've eaten and pass by the new location (and the old location). I finally stopped by on. Saturday between breakfast and lunch. The place was much larger than I expected. Since it's in kind of an industrial area I was expecting a place with several small tables. There's lots of seating and the staff are very friendly. I had the chicken panini with a side salad. The panning was cooked perfectly and the taste was great excellent. I would have given them five stars but I got seated and then the realized they forgot me. They apologized. I wasn't upset since I had my iPad and was able to catch up on some email. Longtime lover of VBC but it's rough with the new model of ordering at the table vs the kiosk. Servers seem stressed and service is unfortunately slow. Food was delicious as always but portions seem smaller (minus the pancakes, they're massive). Our group will continue to visit because we have been coming for years but I could see how the slow service could deter new customers. Service was excellent but the food was just okay. It was slightly confusing as a first time visitor to figure out that you seat yourself, self-serve your drink at first and order from your table. My drink was refilled by my server and I was also offered a to-go cup before leaving. Unfortunately, the portion size of my meal seemed like it was for a child. The flavors were good, but my veggie panini was really small. The mushroom was unusually chewy and difficult to bite as part of the sandwich. The flavor of the feta slaw was good but the slaw was unusually stringy and also challenging to eat. The menu was large and I might return to give them another chance for breakfast. read more

4.5/5 The food is always so good and the pancakes are always so fluffy. I love the people who work here and the diner feel of the place. However, I miss the walk up service and liked the format better than the sit down they recently switched too. It feels like the wait time has gone up because of this switch. read more

Our Travel Club was on a Diamond Tour of Jacksonville, St Augustine & Amelia Island. Arrangements were made for the cafe to open for our group dinner. We enjoyed a delicious homemade buffet that included pot roast & grouper. on Jan 30. The two ladies who served us were delightful. One of them came in at 6:30 am to prepare our dinner. Just visited for my first time. The entire restaurant was clean and organized. I ordered the sandwich biscuit with eggs, bacon, and cheddar cheese along with sweet iced tea. The waitress was friendly and made sure that we were taken care of. Now, as for the biscuits, they were by far the best I've ever had. The buttered biscuits (There were two!) were nicely toasted, the bacon was slightly crispy, scrambled eggs were slightly moist but well done and the cheese was melted! I asked if I could thank the cook. He was so sweet and friendly! My experience at Village Cafe was extra special. I can't wait to go back for some more of those biscuits.! read more

Went to Village Bread Cafe for lunch this past week and had a California club sandwich. It was delicious with thick slices of bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, and an avocado spread. But I really want to go back to try their breakfast items. They serve breakfast all day! And sometimes you just want a late omelette or stack of pancakes. Service here was great too. Walking in, the restaurant is very clean and it is set up to walk up to the counter and order, sit down, and the food is brought to your table. The ladies working are extremely kind, patient, and quick with their service. The food had an average taste that left much missing. In ordering the omelet, it was asked to have the hash browns crispy, and that did not occur. There was a fair amount of onions and bacon included, but such a small amount of cheese and even the cheese that was there, it never fully melted. The eggs were bland and tasted like egg substitute. For the hash browns, it tasted like the black on the grill top that gets scraped off. Unfortunately it seems like there was much more cleaning of the grill needed. The fruit had great flavor and variety for a fruit bowl. The pumpkin bread French toast was not very flavorful, so not something we would order again, but it was ok and eaten by our children. The nuts were the most flavorful part of the bread. The crawfish soup tasted good and not something that can be ordered everywhere. For the panini, the bread and sandwich were the best out of the meal, added avocado to the sandwich. The only downfall to the sandwich was that same dirty taste of unclean equipment, but only on the edges of the sandwich, like the press was cleaned well in the middle but the outside needs to be scrubbed more. Quick and friendly staff, large establishment, but the food tasted more like the build up of the grill and press not having a thorough clean, making it an unpleasant experience and leaving an unpleasant taste. This hidden gem was AMAZING!! Everything was delicious!! I came with friends and everyone was completely satisfied. We had fluffy pancakes that didn't even need syrup, turkey sausage, buttery soft biscuits that melt in your mouth, & creamy grits (top it with the crawfish pepper jack soup trust me it will blow your mind)!!! The food is pretty good. It's definitely a step above commercial franchise places. Good sandwiches, but nothing to write home about. I go there because it's walking distance of my work. But the service is terrible. 2 times now they just forgot my order and this time they decided to be rude about it. Came in ordered a veggie sandwich doesn't even need to cook anything other than toast. 30 minutes later, I've got to get back to work. So I politely ask if I can get it to go instead of for dine in. Simple request, I didn't make a fuss. The cook mocks me about it. "Oh no, he wants it to go instead of for here, guess I took too long" in a loud  sarcastic voice. I didn't say that, but yes, 30 minutes for a sandwich is far too long. Now, you are probably thinking. "They were probably super busy. Long waits happen." Nope. There was one other table that already had their food when I arrived, and no other people came in while I was there. "Well, it must have been close to closing time." I came in at 2. They close at 3. There is plenty of time for a sandwich that doesn't require cooking beyond toast. This is also the 2nd time it's happened. There is a Village Bread Food truck here at the hospital every Tuesday. I ordered grits and bacons and the grits tastes like someone accidentally pour a salt bottle into it. So I threw the whole thing away. You're at a hospital for goodness sake. Please reduce your salt Give them another shot, so for lunch, I ordered Chef's salad. Half of the lettuce were rotten. I have written reviews under my other account "Dianne M". This place has the freshest bread here. The sandwiches and salads are wonderful. I love their potato soup. I've had breakfast and you can look into the kitchen area. They are a well oiled machine. The kitchen is clean and the service is friendly. The chicken salad is wonderful. I usually grab a muffin for the next day's breakfast. I also grab a loaf of freshly made bread. Today I ordered a potato soup and 1/2 pastrami. Everything was good except they gave me a fish chowder instead. I didn't send it back because in looks- it looked like potato soup and it wasn't the front of the house's fault. I was able to get a loaf of bread even though they were running short for the next day. I also got a cupcake to go. This is our go to place when we go to Jacksonville. Hidden gem. This place is hidden in a big office/warehouse complex on Phillips blvd near Emerson. We went here cause our neighbors raved about it. We are not your common going out for breakfast people as I think I can cook most egg dishes at home and pretty well if I say so myself. Everything we tried was really good and we love their coffee as it is stronger than any other restaurant we have been to for breakfast until now. I'm not sure how we ended up here for Sunday brunch, but we did. I wasn't sure of the clientele as mostly everyone looked to be over 60 and coming from church. We heathens were in our sweats and sneakers. We ordered our food, our friend order her food and we sat down to wait. I will say the staff is really nice. They are very attentive and entertaining. My friend asked for eggs fried hard and they came out runny. The waitress was quick to correct the issue. My bacon, egg, and cheese bagel was so dry and chalky I almost scratched out my larynx. My wife ordered some kind of scramble with cheese and they sprinkled 6 shreds of cheese on and sent it out to the table. Cheese not melted or anything. "You might win some, but you really lost one" If I'm basing this review purely on the staff, this place is 5-star all day. The employees are extra friendly, which is a nice change of pace these days. They're all willing to go above and beyond to help. Now, this can't be just about the service because we're all really here for the food. Due to the fact that I'm low-carbing it out here lately, I couldn't try the village's bread. Maybe the bread is where they rise (no pun) and in the words of Queen Oprah, "I. love. bread...I love BREAD." I digress. I ended up getting the Meat Lovers Skillet Sensation with no hash browns. I was expecting vegetables, cheese and eggs all two-stepping together on my plate. Unfortunately, that is not what I got. I got vegetables having an uncomfortable blind date with cheese and cheese brought its socially awkward cousin, eggs. The cheese wasn't even melted, like they really didn't want to be there. It was a tense moment between us all. My wife had a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel. She wanted a croissant, but the village doesn't make croissants. I've been in here twice in two months and both times my expectations were exceeded. Today I tried the Meat Lover Skillet. Oh my gosh was it delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection, just as ordered, topped with (my favorite) marbled rye toast. The meats, the cheese, and the egg to order were dinner perfectly. From the moment we were greeted and our order taken, to the delivery of our food to the table, and our departure out the door, we felt like long time customers and family. It's legit the best breakfast spot spot Cafeteria style aka food pronto. Upon walking in we had a large menu to choose from, we placed our order immediately with the cashier and paid. Following we Hit their help yourself coffee and drink station with everything you could need; their coffee is real good! The sweetest waitress delivered our food to the table. Portions were plentiful and cooked perfectly. I had eggs and the Belgian waffle. So yummy!!! My family also thought their food was delish with plentiful portions.
