The pho had a rich, flavorful broth, the bún bò Huế packed the perfect amount of spice and depth, the spring rolls were fresh, the nem nướng was grilled perfectly, and the bánh bèo was one of the best I've had. The portions are generous, the prices are incredibly affordable, and the food tastes like it was made with care. It's definitely one of those hole-in-the-wall spots that deserves way more attention. This is a small Vietnamese spot out in the Northridge/Reseda area that my girlfriend likes and has been going to for a while. She's been coming here since before they upgraded the space, and from what I understand it's run by brothers. The family is really nice, and it definitely has that local neighborhood spot feel. The main reason she brought me was for their **bún riêu**, but I have to be honest -- it didn't really taste like bún riêu to me. It was still good, but the broth had more of a tomato-y, clearer base and felt like its own soup rather than a true bún riêu. I was also surprised they didn't have **shrimp paste** available for it, which felt kind of odd. They do have **bánh bèo** and some other Vietnamese dishes, which I thought was cool, and overall everything we tried was okay. I've had a different soup from here before, and I've also gotten it delivered, and I'd say the experience is pretty much the same across the board -- decent, solid, nothing bad, but nothing that really stands out for me either. That said, I'd still come back because my girlfriend enjoys it, the family is sweet, and there aren't a ton of Vietnamese spots I've tried out in the Valley yet. It's one of those neighborhood places that's nice to have around, even if it's not something I'd personally go out of my way for. read more

We ordered the filet mignon pho, banh xeo, vietnamese coffee, and lemonade. Everything tasted fresh and very delicious. The restaurant is located in a plaza on Lindsey right before Saticoy. This time around, we ordered Pho #1 and Pho #5, a filet mignon dish, spring rolls (crunchy pork) and 3 orders of the egg pancake thing, its ahhhhmazing!! First time here and I was impressed by the food and the service from Jack even though we arrived the hour before closing. The food and drinks taste fresh and delicious. The egg rolls were definitely hot for some time so be cautious before taking a bite to eat. I would have wished there were more than two shrimp given. Pho is the greatest hangover cure that the Vietnamese ever came up with every culture has their version of chicken soup and I suppose this is it. I always get the soup with the wackiest amount of meat and tripe and brains and guts and ears and eyeballs and it's always delicious. Scored a little Sriracha and some hoisin sauce in there and you're good to go. Service was really good. they have an open kitchen so you can watch your food being cooked. If you're standing up the Thai tea is gigantic and the pad kee mao : hot was so spicy. My nose was running and I love that it really cleaned you out and revives you gives you just the right amount of noodles, meat, and broth and veggies. Highly recommend if you're in the area. I am still on the hunt for a good pho here in SFV. This place is legit! Tucked in a shopping arcade (I see parking as a challenge). Pho is delicious! It's similar to the ones I visit in SGV (but this place has a smaller bowl). The pork egg rolls are wrapped using the popular wrap--I prefer egg rolls wrapped in rice paper. It co five pieces with only two lettuce leaves. The place was not busy during dinner on a Wednesday night. The servers are very friendly, and the service is quick. This is by far my number one go-to Pho place here in SFV! I need to try out the other dishes on their menu. read more

This hidden gem you don't wanna sleep on. Walked in...felt like a little escape to Vietnam. Super clean, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated. Ordered the pho combination and some spring rolls on the side. Service was quick, portions were solid, and the flavor was Deep, rich, and straight-up authentic. That broth hit all the right notes. Spring rolls were fresh, and dipping them in that peanut sauce in Perfection. Had some soup left, so I threw in steamed rice--texture was spot on. Everything just felt right. Pho Viet Cali is as down home as it gets for Vietnamese in the San Fernando Valley. Group of preschool kids of the owners are being fed early dinner with mom & dad presiding over their large dining table. One charming, little girl even brought over a dish of herbs to pair with a bowl of rice noodle soup.  1) Nem nướng cuốn: A raw spring roll containing a slice of leathery, grilled, salty, porky sausage. Watery crunchy cucumber, lightly pickled, chiffonade of Daikon radish, extremely crunchy fried rice cracker adds shards of rough texture with all the above ingredients wrapped in green lettuce leaf. A taut, rice paper wrapper with almost a snap surrounds this savory roll.  Accompanied by a peanut & Hoisin sweet, earthy soybean Miso paste. This Nem nướng cuốn may be the signature dish of Pho Viet Cali.  2)  Phần Chả Giò: Wrapped in very thin wheat sheet rolled many times around ground pork, glass noodle, cloud ear mushroom, touch of garlic, nước mắm/fish sauce, black pepper and deep fried. Accompanied by Nước chấm sweet fish sauce.  The wheat wrapper doesn't quite have the superior crunchiness & thiness of rice paper. The filling lacks the meatiness and volume as witnessed at iconic Golden Deli in SGV, Pho Quang Trung in Westminister/Garden Grove, Cordon Bleu in San Francisco. However, I have yet to find an exemplary Phần Chả Giò in SFV.  3)  Chạo tôm:  Steamed shrimp pâté wrapped around a piece of sugar cane. Shrimp is soft yet firm with a bit of sweet, meaty,  sea minerality. The fibrous, undigestible cane has a caramelized, toasty sweetness upon being chewed.      4) Huế has a rich culinary legacy linked to the former royal court of Annam.  Bún Bò Huế: Clear broth is mostly nước mắm/fish sauce, fermented shrimp. Didn't sense a deep beef stock, and lemon grass infusion typical for this dish faintly echoes. Rice noodle is thicker, round, slippery, soft.  Generous thin cuts of tougher, dark coloured beef & more tender, lighter pork. Huế style sausage reminds me of a denser, firmer "Mortadella".  Garnish of healthful raw cabbage, bean sprouts, Jalapeño chiles, lime, purple & green Vietnamese "Shiso" leaves to put into the soup.   There is a touch of sour, sweet, salty, and umami flavours. Spicy chili oil is added later during the cooking process to add piquancy. There is a lingering, strange, metallic, after taste. May not be the most richly aromatic version, but adequate.  Food here is simple & unpretentious and may need a bit more culinary fine tuning. However, the Nem nướng cuốn is as good as it's going to get in the SFV.  3+ stars read more

This review is long overdue. This is by far the BEST Pho spot in the Valley. Their service is fast and friendly. The Filet Mignon Pho never disappoints. The broth is savory and the meat is tender. The rice plate comes with some veggies and a fish sauce dipping sauce. The house special fried rice has a lot of different meats including Chinese sausage! Delicious. Delightful Vietnamese food with attentive and friendly service! During out last dine in, we ordered and started off with Vietnamese spring rolls, banh beo (steamed rice cakes), and banh xeo for appetizers. They are great for sharing and so that you can try various items. The grilled chicken was flavorful and the skin was crispy. We also liked the catfish hot pot. You place in the veggies and herbs into the portable pot on your table which consists of sweet and soup. Enjoy them over vermicelli noodles! Tucked behind the Just Tires, in the strip mall is this PHO-nomenal little restaurant. We were shopping in the area and decided to get lunch. Hubby suggested Pho so I Yelped some suggestions. Parking can be a little tight but we found disabled parking by the Dollar store and there's also another spot by the market. We were seated right away and immediately noticed the clean condiments and bright interior. Service was fast and they refilled our ice water regularly. The only thing I can ding them on was that there was a tiny piece of cilantro in my ice water but I didn't ask for a replacement so, not a deal breaker. I really liked the eggrolls! They were crispy (hot!) and crunchy and came served with fresh lettuce, mint/basil. Good deal for the price. The steak slices in my pho were tender and tasty with no fat. The basil, limes, jalapeños and bean sprouts were exceptionally fresh too. I've been to other places where the side veggies look, well a little sad. But not here! The portion was perfect too. Sometimes you get a lot of broth or too much noodle and not enough broth, but it was just right. We will definitely return and recommend this place to our friends! read more

Solid spot for Vietnamese food in the valley. I came by for weekday lunch with a friend and it was pretty empty when I walked in at 1. Only 1-2 other tables were occupied. There is parking, but I missed the parking lot and accidentally turned into the lot for Just Tires instead and had to circle back around. Everything on the menu looked really good, and I had a hard time deciding what to order. I was bouncing back and forth between pho to other noodle soups to a rice dish to bo luc lac. Finally I decided on the bun rieu ($12.99), which is mixed crab tomato soup. My friend and I also shared the Vietnamese egg roll for $9.50. I thought both dishes were really good, especially the bun rieu. It was a big bowl of broth and noodles and was filled with other toppings like tofu, eggs, and pork.
