It was my first time visiting with some girlfriends on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm. The area was pretty busy with many other businesses. Parking was very limited so we parked on the street. The moment you enter, the owner makes you sanitize your hands and she never missed anyone who came. The sitting area downstairs is small and casual. There is an upstairs sitting area too. I came with a group on a Wednesday night. They had live music on the rooftop and we were told it usually cost $20 to go up but we were given a special of $10. Majority of people in the group chose not to go the the roof due to the cover. I peaked upstairs at the end of the night and it is a cute spot. There were several employees taking orders and bringing our drinks out. They were really sweet and I appreciated the service. However, only the lady I assume was the owner could actually pour our drinks and check us out. This meant that it took a long time to get drinks and check out. I'm not sure why the other employees weren't trained and/or trusted to do something simple like check us out. It led to a lot of confusion and the owner kept getting side tracked when her familiar customers came it. It honestly felt like we were put on the back burner. I just want to say I had an excellent time here last night with friends. I'm so happy we found this gem of a wine bar! The location is on Almeda, on the quite part closer to downtown. It's a two story venue, I would have loved to sit upstairs in the outdoor seating area but it was rainy. I'll have to sit up there next time. It is very clean, homey and a quaint feel with much original artwork to gaze at and admire. The wine selection is good and the owner is very knowledgeable and approachable. I'm not giving her enough credit... the owner is AWESOME! She was so attentive and friendly, and even covered my friends portion of the meal after giving her marriage advice (she had just got engaged) and making her ready eyed. She also comp'ed one of our dishes because it wasn't what we asked for, even though we didn't mind because it was delicious and we cleared the plate! That brings me to the food! Wow. I was impressed. I'm a vegetarian and usually I don't get it my way when I eat out, but the pizza was soooo green and fresh! I got the best of both worlds and didn't leave feeling guilty. The food was clean, and refreshingly light but filling. I could tell she was really taking her time to prepare every dish with her heart. I really love places like this when I find them. I was so excited for this place only to be disappointed in my first visit. This place was EMPTY, and after my visit I can understand why. The owner is arrogant and speaks in a condescending tone to guests She lost our business just based off her delivery in her spiel to us, didn't mention anything about wine, we weren't offered a menu, but she mentioned a dress code several times (that won't be enforced until the colder months, then why are you mentioning it more than once?) also mentioned that this business is a setting for professional working people (we have our own business, little did she know) gave very business cover front for "side gigs". Check all the negative reviews, this lady obviously has a certain type of "clientele" We left after not feeling welcomed. Is this a wine bar or a bar that serves wine?! Came here on Saturday evening and ughh I was highly disappointed. Not a soul was in there and the rooftop was empty, TVs off, low music playing, hardly any light, a bar with no bartender. The manager/owner has obviously never had any formal training/education, so to overshadow her shortcomings she had a very condescending attitude (I could tell she was trying to make us feel inferior because she was the one uncomfortable talking about the wine lol). Look at the other reviews that are low, they all talk about how rude the owner is. She puts on a fake smile, but very passive aggressive. We asked to sample a few wines and since we had no particular preference with a group of people, we asked her which ones does she recommend...her response was, "Well what do you got a taste for?...How do you want it? What kind do you drink?"....we had to sit there and give her all of these details before she could even make a decision.........what?!! she needs to do her homework. When you go to wine bars they always ask the customer questions and give the customer ideas/recommendations/flavor profiles/notes to choose from....you're the expert ma'm! Then she had the nerve to say, "Y'all gotta drink this one cause I'm not opening no more bottles" (this was bottle #2 or #3 by the way with about 1mL of wine, enough to wet your tongue lol)...I can't. She tried to laugh it off, but she was dead serious as she hurried to fill our glass so we can't ask for anything else. The only reason it took so long is because she was haphazardly pulling out bottles wtf lol See this is what happened when I tried to support black/small business now I gotta go back to Sable Gate Winery where I actually learned some sh*t and got great customer service. -No wine flights -No food -No menu/QR code given to us -Unprofessional -Lacked any foundational wine knowledge. -Paying for the bill literally took 15 mins and no one was there! -Sent a bottle on ice to us that we didn't ask for, we had to send it back. Her response was, "Oh I though y'all wanted a bottle?"....when tho? who said that? There are a few seats downstairs in an intimate setting and more seating upstairs on the rooftop deck. Most of the rooftop is covered. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about all things wine and always provides great suggestions. I also appreciate that this a Black-owned female business. The chef is definitely skilled and the different types of food I've had have always been delicious. I've been to UnWine at large scale events with standing room only, small events, hosted my own party, and other events. It's even nice for a date night. There should not be the owner and one other worker when there are about 50 people there. Patrons should not be told "It's only me. Apparently, making a request and stating "when you have time" is offensive! She was very short with more than one patron and she needs to be reminded it is a privilege and an honor for your business to be supported.
