My very first review and I have to say this place is terrible. The service was horrible to the point where we had to ask for refills on coffee up at the counter. The waitress ignored us, never bothered to check on us and the food quality seemed really poor. I got taken to breakfast here by a friend who suggested an omelet, which for some reason I have drawn a blank on, The California "Delight" Omelet , is quite delightful!. So I'm now addicted to breakfast here. Im not one to usually eat breakfast out, but I definitly made it a point to do so again. Now as I would suggest w/ any omelet go w/ egg whites only...it's lighter and healthier. Also I love the vibe I get from the family run, homey atmosphere, I run a family restaurant as well and take pride in that! BTW their fresh salsa (spicy) is a nice addition to the hash browns and eggs or anything. You can taste the fresh cilantro, tomatoes and all! I don't know about anything else they serve because I'v only been there twice before, but I have a feeling it will be quite a few more visits before I try anything else b/c I love the omelet so much! read more

Every weekend my son and I awake with a singular happy thought in mind -- VIP's for breakfast!!! This breakfast place is as old school as it gets but with the added charm of having the most friendly owner and staff we've encountered at any local restaurant. Better still the food is both excellent AND a great value. Particularly of note, the fresh OJ. Make sure your kids watch the automatic juicer! They'll sit quietly transfixed for at least 20 minutes while you enjoy an extra cup of coffee and read one of the many papers left out. And don't miss out trying the LOCO MOCO, a Hawaiian breakfast delicacy of rice, egg, hamburger patty and gravy. Definitely not for dieters but easily and by far the BEST Loco Moco this side of the Hawaiian Islands! And your kids will love saying it over and over! And if they have the fresh strawberry Belgian waffle special DO NOT MISS IT! Even the pancakes taste way better at VIP's. But if breakfast is not your thing -- lunch at VIP's is equally good. They serve one of the best egg salad sandwiches I have ever eaten. And their Won Ton Soup is to die for! My son and I live on it throughout the cold winter months. I cannot say enough about VIP's -- every single item I have ever ordered tasted great! My ONLY negative -- their wonderful patio has, because of our smoking laws, become the de facto seating area for the nicotine-addicted so if you dislike smoke and have kids -- sit inside! We stopped here and met my sister in law and her husband for breakfast on our way home from San Diego. I'd certainly never heard of Vip's when we lived in Woodland Hills 5 years ago, but the breakfast was spectacular, service was wonderful, and we got some great grub for the value. The fresh squeezed orange juice could make this place a 5 if were a juice spot. This is one of the few simple breakfast spots in the Valley. I was craving a breakfast place that was just regular, none of the fancy brunch stuff - I'm talking plain pancakes, waffles, eggs, normal hashbrowns - a southern breakfast. There was plenty of seating when I walked in and the staff was very nice. This is the type of place you can just go in with a newspaper and relax while you eat breakfast by yourself. I ordered scrambled eggs, potatoes, wheat toast, and turkey sausage. My reason for 3 starts is because there wasn't any flavor in the food. I had to add Tapatio, salt & pepper to give it some zing. I was also a bit disappointed that they didn't have any homemade jam - just packaged jelly. I'll give them another chance when I'm craving pancakes and more of that amazing orange juice. read more

Outstanding Mom-n-Pop spot we stumbled onto after a doctor's visit. Good food for a reasonable price, prepared without pretense. The wait staff made us feel like we were old friends, even though this was our first time. We liked it so much, we christened it "our spot". Next time, we'll sit outside, next to Buddha. Went here for breakfast a couple weeks ago and sat on the patio with our dog. It's a classic diner restaurant with surprisingly delicious food for super cheap prices. I had a veggie scramble which was fresher and more delicious than I was expecting. Our server was so sweet and accommodating. This place isn't anything fancy, but it doesn't try to be. Ok where do I begin; the Asian guy welcoming patrons at the door was really inviting. He was the best thing and really only good thing about this place. I ordered the chorizo a breakfast burrito. It was dry and flavorless. Bad choice. My girl had the mocoloco, it was absolutely horrible! Safe to say I will not be going back for seconds. overpriced greasy dinner food. the food is NOT delicious, is average at best. people are very nice here, and they have a pretty cool terrace (which can get pretty hot later in the day). convenient parking in the back 1 caffee + 1 muffin (from Costco) = $5 1 soda = $2.50 their Chinese food sucks their burgers & fish burgers sucks they have some good dishes but nothing (egg & tuna salad is good) and deserts that I haven't tried. The best chicken and waffles! My son was very polite and told me they were almost as good as my waffles.... My family and I went for the first time about a week ago after church and as packed as it was we were seated within minutes of our arrival. The stuffed french toast with cream-cheese was delicious! Speedy service and no hassle and good food, lots of it actually. I ordered the California omelette which had mushrooms. Spinach., fresh garlic and tomatoes. It came with hash Brown or Potatoes. And I always.get hash browns. Did not disappoint, I could not finish it, buy gave it a good try. Mike had the western omelette with pancakes. He gobbled up his food. Been going for at least 30 years. Not so much anymore. I asked the owner today if he offered an AARP discount. He told me he would mail it to me. I guess he was trying to be funny. He ran after me not once but twice to say he had never heard of AARP? Really??? From someone who has owned a coffee shop for at least 10 yrs?? The food has always been just average but the last year or two, it has dropped a few notches. These days, I go to see the staff, not for the food. The owner, while very pleasant to customers, tends to treat his employees poorly. We have witnessed him berating waitresses in front of customers. read more

My husband and I visited VIPS for breakfast on our way to Santa Barbara today. Delicious breakfast and great service. Watched the servers and owners in action. I come here for breakfast or lunch take-out since I work next door....but even if I didn't, I'd still make the drive from LA to eat here. It's ALWAYS busy and the food is always tasty.
