I booked a night July 18th 2023 (as I usually do) on my way in to Vegas.. wasn't feeling super great, but figured it was the heat & not having eaten much that day.. I & my service dog went to grab some dinner.. I have eaten here MANY times over the years & usually have had great service.. that night .. was completely different. since I had my larger dog with me they sat me in the back (which I generally prefer) but I waited & waited & waited.. no one came to take my order (it was a pretty simple one.. a glass of water & the prime rib special) they then seated a group of about 6-7 people near, who must've been locals because they were stopping all the workers to say hi.. finally someone came to take my order, during my wait.. my dog started alerting me.. I figured I was doing ok as Prime rib is already cooked & should come pretty quick.. when I ordered I asked if I could also get a box, since I would only be able to eat a couple of bites before I need to get back to my room.. ( I have seizures & that is what my service dog is for) the lady who took my order then proceeded to go to the larger table & converse with them (not take their order.. just chat) my dog really "upped" his alert & I knew I had to get back to my room asap.. I couldn't find the waitress to tell her I had to go so I went up front to find the manager (who was also in a deep chat with another waitress about how the heat was affecting her pregnancy) I told them I was sorry to interrupt but could I pay for my dinner & go.. the manager said "you ordered the prime rib.. you CAN NOT take it to go" I informed her I was having a medical emergency & needed to go NOW.. I was starting to shake already.. she said NO.. I couldn't discuss this anymore I had to get somewhere safe before I went "full blown seizure". had the amazing front desk girl not put me in the accessible room VERY close to the casino.. I would not have made it back & had a seizure in the parking lot in 114 degree heat. When I went back in the morning to talk to someone, they were VERY cautious & even after telling them what happened & asking for the managers name.. they brought me a comment card & wouldn't tell me her name. I went to the front check in desk to hand them the card & asked for the property manager.. (who was not in at the time) but at least SHE was nice. I am absolutely APPALED at the treatment.. I wasn't trying to get a free meal.. I had a legit medical emergency & was asking to be able to get my dinner.. needless to say.. I didn't eat that night & still have heard NOTHING from the resort or mgmt.. horrible horrible service!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes Mrs Manager (who's name no one would tell me!) Wife and I went here after getting into town from Baltimore. She ordered the French dip and I ordered the Steak sandwich. Her French dip looked identical to my sand which but mine was on a roll. The au jus sauce for the French dip was flavorless. The French fries were mediocre at best and service was slow for a late dinner. Half way through the meal I found a massive hair in my sandwich and stopped eating. The waitress asked me to show her the hair, then pull the hair out of my meal, then place it on a napkin for her to take to the back. I'm guessing they have a hair CSI lab and need to make sure the long blonde hair wasn't mine. After a few more minutes of the suspenseful findings on whether or not we won or loss the DNA test. We won! They took the sandwich off the check and we skipped over to McDonalds to get a real meal. Won't be returning unless it is to cross examine more hair DNA. :( read more

My husband and I had not so friendly service the night prior but food was good. Upon checking out in the morning we stopped in for breakfast and had the most delightful waitress and the best service ever. Let me not add the night before in the casino area was at a table and trying to get a Dr. Pepper from the cocktail waitress was non existent she literally told us she'll be back so I can ask for a Dr. p and I never got that soda. Back to the waitress she is amazing and best service. My husband and I thank Cheyenne for the great service and experience throughout our stay at the establishment. read more

At 5:30pm on a Wednesday, we waited 45+ minutes to enter the restaurant. That's okay. When we were taken to our table, we could observe that, in fact, there were many empty tables. This means that, in reality, they were understaffed. Well, in COVID times, that could be understandable. We were waited on by a nice waitress and were, generally, satisfied (although one of our party didn't even finish their ribs because they were too dry). We were 3 couples dining together. As was experienced earlier that week, we were told by the waitress that she couldn't prepare 3 separate bills, but, rather, separating the bill would be handled at the register. One of our party went to pay their part early and was told that all parties needed to be present for the settling up. We all went up together and the supervisor herself attended us (as if it required a supervisor). It took several _minutes_ to handle this breaking down of the bill. The supervisor complained about how the waitress somehow didn't facilitate the separation (as if we cared to hear this). A member of our party told the supervisor to place all of the drinks on their bill because that was the portion that she was having difficulty separating out. Then, we finished and left. This processing of a check is really okay .................... if we lived in the 1990s. In the 2020's, it seems absolutely ridiculous! While we are at it, I don't understand why we are still being asked to sign for purchases made on our credit cards. All 4 major companies (Visa, MC, Amex, Discover) stopped requiring this some years back. This is annoying. read more

We left Las Vegas very early in the morning for Zion National Park in Utah. We did not have time for breakfast, while driving on North 15 Interstate freeway, I kept seeing the billboards about $5.99 and $6.99 full breakfast. So, we did a mandatory stop at the Virgin River Cafe and went to explore with the whole family. Service was super fast, Maria was our waitress and she was very friendly and fast during our visit. We went in and out within 30 minutes with boxes to go. Yes, about the breakfast was a lot of food and it was very delicious for the price. I was amazed, I was not expecting this quality of food for the price that we paid. Thank you and keep the good work!! Deuces special for $3.99 ( 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, and hot cakes) all day. Steak and eggs special $5.99 from midnight- 5AM. The ham steak breakfast is huge. I always share this. It's a huge portion that comes with hash browns, 2 eggs and toast for $4 bucks. Perfect place to grab breakfast if you're staying at the Virgin River. The entire menu is cheap. We always eat here before heading to Zion. Perfect for big or small groups. read more

The food is delicious, and a great price!!! It's just a shame the cafe is so awful, that we are very unlikely to ever go back. It's crowded, loud, extremely dim lighting, every bench seat in every booth is sprung and devoid of any actual support. There is a SERIOUS PROBLEM with the nasty cigarette/vape/cigar/whatever smoke that drifts from the stinky, smelly casino floor directly into the cafe and sits there. It is worse now than we ever noticed in previous years. If you are sensitive to smoke at all, DO NOT try to eat here, or spend any time inside this casino. This cafe had signs posted advising people to "pardon our dust" because supposedly they are renovating the cafe. However, during our recent week stay at the Virgin River Hotel & Casino, we did not notice ANYTHING actively being renovated inside the cafe. Zero. In fact, we got the distinct impression that they put up those signs to get people to overlook the incredibly poorly maintained surroundings without having the slightest intention of renovating or improving any of it. Also important to mention, the air conditioner and ventilation system is completely subpar. It was uncomfortably hot, and the system was unable to keep up with the body heat generated by so many people packed into such a small space, made smaller because they wouldn't allow people to be sat in a good portion of the restaurant due to "construction" that we never saw any indication of occurring. We saw some customers walk in, look around and walk out without ordering during our visits. We were sad to see how badly this cafe has fallen apart on our recent visit, because this used to be a bright, cheerful, clean, and still busy place to rest and eat. If we could impart any advice at all to the management in order to keep us and others as happy guests it would be to enclose the restaurant in glass to keep the stench of the casino out, up the air conditioning, and switch those ridiculously dim bulbs out for high efficiency and brighter, yet lower cost LED bulbs because you are a homestyle cafe, not a fine dining establishment. Nobody needs "mood lighting" when trying to eat french toast, smothered biscuits and club sandwiches with fries. read more

Personally, we were surprised by all of the praise. We stayed at Casablanca, owned by the same company and ate lunch there the day before we visit Virgin River. After reading so many great breakfast reviews for Virgin River we drove there for breakfast. Same exact menu as Casablanca but the reviews here were much better. I am not sure why. Standard coffee shop food and quality. The prices are not high but we are in Mesquite after all. Service was good, the food was plentiful but again, standard fare. We both thought the coffee was weak and even mentioned it to our waitress and cashier and no one seemed to care. At $2.49 a cup, that blew any real savings. If you like coffee house food without any flair or uniquness, you will like this place. If you read the reviews and expected something better, I think you will be disappointed. This is standard, run of the mill hotel/cafe food. I had an breakfast skillet, I ordered the veggie one but got the one with ham and bacon. I didn't care that much. She ordered a egg while omelette and it was fine. The toast and potatoes were, as mentioned, nothing special but average. Forget the reviews, we felt they are misleading. Try it yourself. Personally we will be looking for something more noteworthy when we go back to Mesquite. read more

So we ordered the Hong Kong Noodles and the Chicken Chow Mein. Do they have any idea how to make Chinese food? We got this gloppy cornstarched brown sauce and a wad of noodles with two pieces of meat, a couple vegetables and it was so unappetizing that I wanted a refund. They refused the refund saying everyone likes their Chinese food. I guess everyone doesn't know what real Chinese food taste like. Don't order it there!!!!!! It sucked and they took our money!!! You would think since its a customer oriented business they would know not to ignore criticism. That's how you make the food better. Hey we don't have to swallow being charged for crap. read more

A dump, but 6.99 prime rib? Can you beat $6.99 prime rib? No. No you can't. Because here's the rub--prime rib, and the beef rib cap, and the ribeye roast, are such fantastic cuts of meat, you really can't go wrong. As long as you don't overcook it. Whatever you do, don't overcook it. Even though the casino was one large, depressed, rundown, completely uncomfortable and entirely unattractive hotel (think Circus Circus rather than, well, anyplace else), they didn't overcook it. They overcooked the beans and the roll while undercooking the potato, but the star or the show, that little slice of beef heaven, was a perfect medium rare. Jackpot. read more

Living in Vegas, a friend of mine recommended the beef ribs to me. Let's just say that he is someone that loves great food. Needless to say, I am glad that I made the drive up to Mesquite; they are that good! Perfectly tender, nice and smoky, not too salty, with sauce that was wonderfully tart, spicy, and utterly delicious. Did I mention that it's only $5.99? As he noted, it's better to get there closer to 11am, when they typically have the ribs ready. Helpful hint: call ahead to make sure that they are serving the ribs. I think the chefs are trying to gamble and cook at the same time. The food came out cold, and undercooked. Our waiter wasn't paying attention and was never able to refill our water. I had been in here many times before the remodel and never had a bad meal. We stopped in this morning on our way home to grab a quick bite. My husband had the ham steak and eggs special, not sure how it tasted but the ham looked overcooked and leathery. I had a simple bacon and eggs. I was very disappointed. The best part of my meal was the little package of grape jelly. My eggs were undercooked, nothing like over medium eggs with the whites still slimy! My hash browns were cold. The toast comes unbuttered with little butter pats for you to do yourself, not a problem if your quick to get the ice cold butter on your hot toast so it has time to soften before spreading. My bacon was extremely overcooked, granted I asked for it to be crispy but almost burnt was a little too crispy. We should have gone across the street to McDonalds, at least there I would expect something to be messed up! read more

Now I was not happy with my room at the Virgin River, but dinner was not too bad. I was exhausted from being on the road for 12 hours so in hindsight if I had been willing to drive I probably would not have eaten here, but starving and sleepy this was just fine. My husband and daughter dined here and waited 45min for our food to come. I was still waiting for my food to come out and then I asked if they had forgotten to place my order. I asked for a manager and the kitchen manager came out and basically said that they just put it in and she watched "flip" my French toast and that it was coming out. She was so rude and unfriendly, didnt offer any kind of sensitivity to the situation. I asked her if she had a manager and said no. She was top of the food chain. I will be contacting the general manager to file a complaint on how rude she was. read more

We live in St. George and were in the mood for a little gambling, so off to Mesquite we went. Daughter, son-in-law, husband and myself. All of us were hungry and opted for the Café rather than the buffet. I had a chicken sandwich, no flavor at all, but the fries were good. Husband had the prime rib, which he loved. Son-in-law had the Chinese food, can't remember exactly what, but he really didn't care for it. Daughter had a breakfast special, which looked and was (according to her) delicious! Ok it's pretty good. I ordered the prime rib special and my friend ordered the fried chicken basket and chili. The prime rib was served as ordered (rare) but it was a very thin slice. The baked potato could have used a minute in the microwave. The fried chicken was a bit over cooked but the crust was acceptable. I'm from the south so acceptable is pretty good for fried chicken. Good bargain if you order the specials! I did try going to this restaurant twice before but was put off by the long lines. The first time we bagged it in and went to the buffet instead. Took my in-laws for lunch when we went to visit in Mesquite. Place was crowded, but we're still seated quickly. Waitress was outstanding! Our food arrived fast, and it was really good. Dad and hubby had the Baja wrap and said it was very tasty. My club sandwich was amazing, definitely plenty of meat. Mom settled on an omelette and took some home! There are plenty of people standing around talking to one another, but as far as taking orders?, good luck. I will never come to the cafe again. It is a service joke. The prices and specials are what old school casinos used to do to bring in the masses! Typical diner/cafe style food, that was good and large potions. The Deuces special was just great, and the price isn't making them any money. Had different specials each time and all were good and the price unbeatable. Even if you're just passing through, this is the place to stop and get a meal. Keno in the cafe, YES! Stopped in here 3 times in one week and it didn't disappoint.
