Queso dip is made in house, which I respect. Loaded potato wontons were a great idea and were probably the best things on the table. You can't go wrong with pretzel nuggets. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. The interior of FIV has a somewhat rustic/beachy vibe that works well for its Bay Shore location and feels at home on Long Island. It's got a nice bar and a decent seating area where we pulled up a table and were helped by the staff who were friendly and attentive. Besides the importance of good feels from the workers, the food and drink is where it might matter most and Fire Island Vines doesn't fall short of doing this. With a somewhat Mediterranean/Greek/Italian direction to their foods you'll find some delicious dips (spicy feta, hummus), savory chicken skewers, and crispy pizzettes which was just about everything we ordered. There's much more than that here and of course plenty of chances to wine while you dine. I instead ventured to the house sangria which was delightful while the wife had a concocted mocktail she really enjoyed. And, therein lies the biggest hint to why FIV will mean a lot more to us in just a few months as my wife and I are expecting our first child and the baby shower is planned for right here within these walls. So far all planning has been fantastic and owner Angelo has been very kind and accommodating. We're looking forward to our full festivities, but for now I'll wrap things up by saying this spot will be holding a special place in our hearts and so I wanted it to be my 1,000th review on Yelp to be even more memorable.
