If you decide to pop in for a haircut, I would recommend considering Claude Kim, especially if you have Asian hair (thick, straight, heavy, mind of its own) and you've had issues with hairstylists really achieving what you envisioned for yourself. Claude is fantastic with your ideas and wants , even the ones that are a little ways off the beaten path. I've had a stylist cut my hair against my wishes and adamantly ignored my requests because he said it wouldn't work, but Claude? She'll always try to make your vision work, somehow, some way. She gets my hair exactly how I want it, every time, and many other clients as well. So my 5 star rating is strictly due to my stylist Gabriel. He is AWESOME! Seriously the best stylist around. I've been going to Gabriel for over 4 years and he has not disappointed me yet. I'm mixed- black and Indian- and my family is from the West Indies. I have had so much trouble my whole life with finding stylists that really understand my naturally curly hair. Often the products used are too much for my hair and it ends up a greasy mess that I have to immediately go home and wash OR the products are not enough and I end up with a dry frizzy mess on my head. Gabriel gets my hair perfectly straight and it always looks sleek and stylish when I leave. Everyone who knows who does my hair always compliments me after a visit to the salon and they almost always say "I know you've been to see Gabriel!" My hair is always cut perfectly and he recommends great products for me to use at home. I can't say enough about how great he is as a stylist. In fact he'll be cutting my one year old son's hair (his hair is just like mine) in a few weeks! The rest of the salon is good as well. I've never had a problem making an appointment and I'm always checked in pretty quickly. My only complaint is that some of the folks who wash your hair don't wash thoroughly enough for me. Most of the time though Gabriel will send someone over to do my hair wash so they are usually on point. Also they don't take American Express so be aware if that's how you usually pay. read more

I love going here, and that is saying something, because it's a bit out of the way for me! For my cuts and styles I go to Jin Kurai. He does a great job of taking something and bringing out it's potential. Now I don't go to anyone else, because he knows my hair the best. I'm at a point where I go in and just let him style the way he thinks may work the best, and I have no been disappointed a single time after years of visits. For color, I go to Marcus. I was super nervous to get colors done, but Marcus was awesome, and gave me all the information I needed. I showed him a picture, and I got exactly what I wanted. I went in as a walk in after calling and getting a quoted price, which was $25. After checking in and waiting, I spoke with someone (wish I got her name) and she was such rude. When I told her I wanted an undercut and nothing else, she asked me if I was sure because my hair was gonna look weird and she looked and spoke to me like I was stupid. She then told me the price would be $65, a whole $40 difference, I was confused and told her the person on the phone told me it was $25. She looked annoyed and left to go find someone who would do it for that price. A stylist came and he asked me if I wanted a fade and I said sure since I've gotten a few before; he said it would $40. Again I was confused but I was already frustrated and just wanted a haircut since I had to leave out of town the next morning so I said to just do it. He did asked if I wanted something done to my length, I personally wanted a trim but I knew they were just gonna charge more without saying the reason. I do like it from the sides but the middle part is uneven now that I washed my hair so I'm not completely happy with my experience. I visited the Galleria location of Visible Changes on Friday of last week. I had not been to Visible Changes since I was in high school and had encountered some bad haircuts before at the Memorial City Mall location. Fed up with how expensive hair cuts go nowadays and desperate for a hair cut, I decided to try this place again. I'm glad I gave Visible Changes another chance because the haircut I receieved is one of the best I have ever gotten. They set me up with Katrina (I paid $44 for wash/cut/syle) and she was awesome! I have super thick, wavy/curly hair that seems to confuse most stylists, but Katrina knew what to do with it! She gave me a super fun shorter cut that is easy to deal with and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it as well! I will definitely go back and ask for her again. I did find it weird that you have to pay for conditioner for your hair (if you want it), but I guess everyone is trying to make extra money. You can always say no and go home and wash your hair yourself, I guess. read more

So for most of my life, I went to the typical North Side neighborhood hair salon in to get my hair cut. You know the kind - the ones with pictuers of glamour models from the 80s/90s posted everywhere and Tejano music blasting on the radio. You could tell just by looking at the staff that these people aren't the best trained, maybe a class or two at a local vocational school. But at $8 a cut, what would you expect. I don't know why I've wanted a change recently, but I'm glad I finally moved up a notch. I was initially shocked that simple cut with a master stylist would be $30. But I braved the Galleria traffic, so I was going to go through with it whether I liked the prices or not. On both occasions, the stylists Daniel and Ricky proved to do what no hair stylist has ever been able to do - give me a cut I'm cool with. I have a TON of hair, and it's very curly once it has grown out. Previously, stylists would cut it all wrong, leaving the sides and back just as long as the top, giving me an awkward look for at least two weeks. It's like these guys have been trained specifically to deal with my hair. Even if both cases were a fluke, I'm still gonna come back here and risk them getting it wrong then go to a neighborhood salon and know for certain that they will get it wrong. read more

I have come to visible changes many times before to get my hair colored and left overly satisfied every time. My visit on 4/10/18 however was a disaster- I literally went to my car and cried out my frustration. I arrived at 3:00 and was immediately checked in. I waited about 15 minutes which wasn't a big deal. I was assigned to Privyah (honestly not sure if I even spelled that right). I explained to her that I was looking to bring up my previous caramel balayage/ombré hair and add some lighter pieces around my head using the balayage technique. Prior to the services my hair had dark roots that gradually faded to a brassy brown and some parts had Beige/yellow highlights. My hair was the perfect canvas for a balayage. I showed her a picture of what I wanted my results to look like. She took a look, and said that it will be difficult to lighten my hair to match the hair color in the picture and the use of bleach will damage my hair and may break off. She also mentioned that my hair had to be "color corrected" which didn't make sense to me because I wasn't asking her to change my overall hair color nor was it a complicated task (I have colored my hair long enough to know that she had an amazing canvas to work with) After a few times of her repeating the consequences of what I wanted, which seemed more like hesitation from her end and perhaps consciously knew she wasn't capable of giving me the results I wanted, she told me she had to get her manager to take a look at my hair and see if it's "do-able." Her manager came over to speak to me and ask me what it was that I wanted so I showed him the same picture I showed her before. He took a look at my hair and said that yes it's doable. So Privyah went ahead and told me she would do a color melt, add some blonde pieces, and darken other pieces, so all in all I had 3 colors that will blend in to match the photo. She started the process around 3:30 and finished by 7:30, so a total of 4 hours. During the shampoo process, she was VERY rough it hurt my scalp, but I'm not the one to complain I just wanted to get it over with. After shampoo and conditioning, she took me to get a rough blow dry since I did not want a full blow dry. The stylist that dries my hair a bit so I was able to see my results was very friendly, handed me a mirror so I can see the back of my hair. originally I liked it it looked decent. I walked into the restroom to take a better look and I was extremely disappointed. She had added 2 random highlights on the left side and one chunky highlight on the right, you can see the harsh lines of the highlights that I'm assuming were supposed to frame my face. These atrocious highlights started almost at the top of my roots and I told her not to mess with the top base in the first place. I walked back out to the salon and told her my concern. After explaining and showing her my hair, she began to blabber none sense essentially blaming it on my hair. She said that she didn't want to leave the bleach on too long or it'll damage my hair. What the hell did that have to do with the fact that I had ugly disproportionate highlights? Not ONCE did she say she was sorry. She offered to fix it, but after 4 hours and seeing as she already did the damage, I refused to go back to her chair. She damaged my hair with bleach which I agreed to, but because she messed up my hair has to be re-processed which now will DAMAGE MY HAIR EVEN FURTHER-and it's all because she did a horrible job. Paid $175 for her to ruin my hair. The manager rescheduled me for tomorrow with Becky(who did my original balayage that was perfect) to correct the mess. However, I feel like $175 was far too expensive considering my hair was light already AND she messed up. They have messed up my moms roots as well in the past and she warned me not to go there again, I should have listened. read more

Update to my original post (which was made a couple of years ago) I guess, if a company apologizes, they always don't mean that. This is the case that happened with Visible Changes. They tried to correct and apologize for my previous bad experience with a complimentary gift card and a handwritten card saying they were apologetic. However, I guess, that also means ban the client right after the service is complete because I find out years later today when I'm trying to book an appointment at another location in a different city that I'm no longer allowed service there (at any locations). It's unfortunate their apology in the first place really wasn't an apology. I would have not accepted the gift card, their "apology", and come back again if I had known this would happen. I gave them a second chance and paid for their services with additional money on top of the gift card and for their products thinking their intentions were sincere. I gave them a five stars review (as seen posted previously) thinking this company was being genuine... However, I would have never gone back, never taken the gift card, or accepted their apology if I knew that's how they truly felt and if they were going to ban me for voicing a complaint and speaking about how I felt. Regardless, even if they don't stand by their apology, I will still stand by my original complaint two years ago at the Memorial City location that I don't believe a manager or anyone should talk down on someone to the point where they leave the store in a panic attack and in tears because of miscommunication. I have been here a few times and I am never satisfied with the customer service. The people working behind the counter are constantly rude and unwelcoming. I kept coming back because my hair is all one length and super easy to cut and this place is convenient. Most of the time the stylist does a good job but I had an appointment yesterday and the woman (Meta) cutting my hair couldn't be more rude. She started off by telling me I was cold because I was "basically naked." I was wearing long sleeves and some shorts and I don't think it is appropriate for her to comment on the way I dress. Throughout the hair cut she kept making jabs at how awfully damaged my hair was and how I basically didn't take good care of it. Literally all she could talk about is how bad my hair was and tried to sell me product. I am a swimmer and have been since I was 6 years old. I also teach swim lessons so I am constantly in the pool and having to wash my hair. I try to get a hair cut every 6 months and really don't need her to tell me my hair is frizzy or dry. Even after explaining this to her she made it sound as though I just shouldn't be in the chlorine that much (like I have a choice). At the end of the appointment she tells me she is a level 5 stylist even though I have only requested a level 1. I was not informed of this on the phone. I was put with her because she had an opening earlier in the morning but it seems like she felt sighted because I was only going to end up having to pay for a level 1 stylist and she's more of a "professional" than that. She still had the nerve to give me her business card and pretend like everything well great and I should come back and see her! When I checked out the guy barely made eye contact and just gave me my change. I paid with cash and received no receipt (SKETCHY) and it was incredibly awkward because there was no okay you're checked out or have a nice day or come back and see us again. He maybe said 3 words and I was left standing there like okay thats all? He seemed as though he couldn't have been bothered. I am done putting up with the awful customer service here and do not recommend this place to anyone who would like to be treated with some decency! read more

VC in the Galleria is very well kept and organized. I have been going for a couple of years now and each time I walk in it is stress free and relaxing! I may add too that it is very clean. You will never see hair just sitting on the floor after a hair appointment has finished! :) Check in is simple, after you have done so at the front you walk to the back and sit in very comfortable couches with plenty of reading material ready for you while you wait. I always get my hair rinsed and shampooed before my cuts and each time the person who does it is fantastic! They are very considerate, asking about the water temperature, my hair washing regiment, and giving me helpful tips to keep my hair healthy and shiny! Perfect! :) I have been going to Letty for a bit now and she is simply amazing. All I have to do is show her a few pictures of the style I am wanting and explain a few needs/wants, and she is off working her magic! :) She is a senior stylist so more expensive, but she does an amazing job. I have never left an appointment from her feeling upset. She does a great job explaining what she is doing and very friendly. I never thought I would say this about a salon inside the mall, but I LOVE my colorist and hairstylist at this location. Amanda does the best highlighting on my blonde hair and Juany is one of the best hairstylists I've ever had. I am picky as my hair is very fine and it's easy to get a brassy blonde color. But both Amanda and Juany hit it out of the park every time. Most recently I had extensions added to give my fine hair lift and curl and the results have been AMAZING!! Amanda did a beautiful job with the color and then worked with Juany to match the extensions. Juany cut my hair and blended everything so it's beautiful and natural looking. My five star rating is solely for my colorist Chemeka. I grew up in Houston and have been heavy highlighting my Asian dark brown hair blonde for about 6 years now. I started with a few highlights at this exact location actually but shortly thereafter moved to Austin for school. Now that I am back in Houston, I have been on the search for a great colorist. I have been in the woodlands (worst!) and have tried numerous random places around the city. I've even gone back to my colorist in Austin a few times because I just couldn't find someone great. I'm not too picky with my hair; my only requirements are that my roots are touched up and that they blend with the previous highlights. You know, the basic things you want when you're getting your roots touched up. In a desperate attempt to just get something done (I had an event to attend and couldn't make it to my colorist in Austin), I scheduled an appointment here and crossed my fingers. I can honestly say that no one could really fit the bill for me in Houston until I found Chemeka!! I will be coming back here for sure!! read more

Doralee Chavez colors my hair - we've become good friends and I love to get caught up with her during each visit. She only has positive things to say about everything and she does a fantastic job to get my color just right. Rey Reyes cuts my hair in a style that is unique for me. He gives great suggestions! Previously, I used to get a standard haircut... and nobody ever made comments. When I met Rey, he promised me, "When I cut your hair, you will get compliments." And he was right. I get compliments all the time. I can't imagine getting my hair cut anywhere else. After previously going to the chain salon for 10 years (and typically using the same stylist,) they never called me by name. I went to Visible Changes for a hair coloring appointment and they kept me waiting for over 45 minutes and never even colored my hair in the end. I finally left when closing time approached because I didn't want the colorist to rush through my hair, nor did I want a bad hair coloring experience. My hair is very long and full and cannot be colored in a hurry. The salon should not have booked me for a same-day appointment if they couldn't fit me in. My colorist said that she was told to squeeze someone else in before my appointment and push mine back, which is why I was kept waiting. Very unprofessional. I left dejected with my grey roots still showing. I have been a loyal customer at VC for some time now, but will never venture there again for coloring. This is an unacceptable way to treat a customer. And for the record - a manager at Visible Changes responded to my review saying that they'd like to make it up to me after this bad experience. This was all for show! I called and emailed the number and email address he gave me numerous times and never heard anything back. My Stylist Rhian i wish i could give her more stars!! Shes so amazing, i came in not having my hair cut for over a year and i showed her pucs of what i was looking the end product to be and she talked woth me throughout the whole process to make sure i got what i wanted amd bevause there were some parts where i didnt know how I wanted it to looki just wanted it to all mesh well amd she totally mads thay happen! Rhian is amazing and she deserve 10 stars. The only bad thing i could say is the manager there. hes an asshole and unprofessionial. The people at the front wrote my ticket wrong but on the phone they didnt ask if i wanted my hair washed or blow dryed. They asked "what do you need to have done today?" I said i needed my haircut. Its so unprofessional for anyone to come bug and bitch at a stylist while theyre doing another persons hair. It was the person making the appointments fault not the stylist.
