I recently switched eye doctors because I couldn't stand how rude and stuffy my old eye group was - Eye Elements. My husband goes to Vision Source Insight and he hasn't had a bad experience so I thought I'd join him here. Pros: - Friendly, organized staff that's clearly working hard - They use a mix of new and old technology - I saw Dr David Sweeney who seemed really knowledgeable - Purchasing annual contacts was actually cheaper through them than going the 1-800 Contacts route. - When I submitted a rebate for my lenses, I had no issues at all with the receipts they gave me for my rebate submission. Cons: - I was really disappointed at the wait time, but it sounds like it was a fluke for the day I went because Dr Sweeney had a family emergency come up. - I'm not a fan of the location because it can be hard to make a left turn out from the office - it looks like a house that was converted into a business So far, the experience at Vision Source Insight has been much better than any other franchised vision place I've been. I'd give this office another visit next year to see if its better/worse before I go anywhere else. read more

We have been patients at this center for multiple years and was happy with the service provided by the doctor. The front desk, however, is not the best one can expect. I recently switched jobs, causing my kids dropping off my vision and dental plan by mistake. Apparently stuff like this happens often and was promptly corrected. Knowing the situation, our orthodontist, periodontist, and regular dentist office were all happy to file our claim at a later date, so that services were not interrupted. Not at Vision Source. Although I have the insurance company staff on the phone confirming that this mistake has been corrected, the receptionist refused to accommodate the appointment on that day because they have a "policy". Over a course of one hour, we struggled in the office on the phone in the hope not to reschedule the appointment to next year. All to no avail. So no more Vision Source for us. read more

We went in for an eye exam to this location. Unfortunately, the woman at the reception was extremely rude. She made us feel very uncomfortable. She provided us with bad customer service and we walked out of the place. When we told them we were leaving and walked out of the office, they did not even try to stop us. It was the worst customer service I have ever seen in any eye care place. The office needs to address this issue. It's so unfortunate because it ruined the rest of our day. read more

A friend of mine recommended Dr. Sweeney for my eye exam. I had previously been going to the Marietta Eye Clinic, but after moving to Atlanta I decided I didn't want to have to drive 30 minutes to see the eye doctor. This was a mistake on my part. I was having some problems with my vision and decide to go in for a routine examination since I was probably due for a new prescription. I went through the whole eye exam process, got new trial lenses, and went on my way. The next day when I put in my lenses I couldn't see anything. It took two more visits to get my prescription right. I don't know that it was Dr. Sweeney's fault entirely, it may just be that I have bad luck. It was easy to switch out the contacts that were wrong, but I ended up getting the shaft on my glass prescription which they insisted on changing out. It turns out that after getting my contacts prescription correct my glasses lenses never needed to been changed out from my old prescription. I never got a refund for the new lenses I had put in my glasses and didn't even need. Also, Dr. Sweeney does not dilate the eye. I have done some research and the technology Dr. Sweeney uses is not comparable to eye dilation. It is better to have the eye dilated to check for eye disease. read more

I was pleased that the eye doctor just across the street from my house was in network. I did have to schedule my appointment about a month in advance since I needed one later in the day. From the moment I walked in the door, the staff was super friendly. I filled out some forms, only providing information that I hadn't already given them on the phone. They were very clear about how one of their diagnostic tools was not covered in most cases by insurance but that it would cost $58. I appreciated that honesty and that they let me make that decision with no urging other than the printed information they asked me to read. I did opt for it. Within a few minutes, a technician greeted me and walked me through a series of exams for my eyes and vision including the optional test. Then I was taken to an exam room where the technician did a little more, asked me a few questions. Within 5 minutes, the Dr. David Sweeney arrived to interpret the results and do some more exams. He was personable and thorough. I felt that there was a little bit of upselling, providing information about fish oil that could be purchased through them of higher purity than the generic brand that I buy, but in general, still a very pleasant experience. After getting my prescription, the technician walked me over to the glasses side of the building, where the employee chose frames for me (at my insistence, since I've never had glasses and have no idea what to expect or need). While I was encouraged to get transitions lenses, I chose not to for this pair. The employee understood and didn't try to sell me either way. He checked me out for the entire visit, and they'd already confirmed costs with the insurance company. The whole process there took less than 10 minutes. And I was given to $20 vouchers for new patients, one of which my husband was able to use a few weeks later! While I was told that it would take a week, I got a call 2 days later that I could come pick up my glasses. I don't have much experience with eye doctors, but the folks at Vision Source InSight seem to be top notch. read more

I just can't put my finger on it. Or is it just me, as it is with many things? I get the strange irky feeling whenever I call or am called by this place. Then, dealing with the extremely professional staff (I say extremely because it feels so devoid of that something I can't put my finger on, not in an entirely good way...) I continue to get irked and find myself trying to rein in my nerves. Oh, these people are every bit professional. I'm not trying to diss the business, no way. I just think I'm not suited to the aura/feel I get from the very professional people at this place. I found Insight because they were listed as a provider for Ogi frames. I came in with a prescription that was about two months old from a doctor I'd been seeing for about 10 years from California. I called to inquire about the frames and John ordered me the frames I inquired about plus a few additional options that were similar. I didn't even have to go in to the office or give a deposit. When the frames came in (in less than a week) John called me personally. I selected the frames and had my glasses made up. John provided a detailed itemization of all of the costs, which I was able to quickly use for reimbursement through my health insurance plan. Yes, they were costly, but I got the thinnest lenses with expensive frames. When I got the glasses I thought that looking at the computer was a little blurry so I went back and Dr. Sweeney evaluated my vision. He changed my prescription and did not charge me for the exam. I was also not charged for remaking the glasses, even though it was not their fault. Dr. Sweeney's exam was more complete and took more time than any exam I have had in 40 years of wearing glasses (I have since had exams with both of the doctors Sweeney, the experience was similarly positive). John was very helpful in the selection process. New glasses are such a big investment and you have to wear them all of the time, so selecting a good frame is very important. He spent a lot of time explaining the pros and cons of the frames I was considering and tactfully steered me away from a frame color that, looking back, was probably too extreme for my career situation. When I got my new glasses they were fabulous! John said that their goal is a "wow factor," which I can agree that I got. Everything was much clearer and my lenses were extremely thin and light! They even said that it was ok for me to order lenses with no frame on the bottom, something that no other optician would permit (my prescription is very strong and they said that it would make the lenses susceptible to breaking and the thickness too noticeable from the side). John told me that we could try the frameless and if I didn't like them we could order a different style and if they broke within two years they would be replaced with no charge (this type of guarantee usually costs extra, it is included at Insight). I have received many compliments on my glasses and have referred one person, who was very happy with her experience. My husband also got his glasses made at Insight and he is thrilled with the results. His prescription is extremely strong (-8.0) and his lenses were impressively thinner (we always paid for the high index lenses before for both of us, but the labs that Insight uses can apparently make the lenses even thinner). He got a pair of glasses with dark blue silicone sides (arms), which are very comfortable under his motorcycle helmet and do not slide down his nose when he rides his bicycle and gets sweaty. Yet they don't look like "sports" eyeglasses. We are both extremely happy with the service, products, and especially the lens quality at Insight. The cost may be a little higher, but there is a big difference in the exam (they take the time to really determine what is going on with your vision), the consultative service, and the final product! You wear your glasses on your face every day, and they help you see...I think it is worth it! August 2012 Update Both Doctors are very caring, professional and skilled. Dr. David Sweeney helped me through a very scary eye condition with weekly exams and detailed instructions. It was a condition that causes 10% of blindness. The doctor was very patient answering my questions and it was very easy to schedule my follow up appointments. I can't say enough positive things about this practice. Total waste of money. Doctors never got prescriptions right. They only see you as a paycheck and only care about money. I paid $800 for a pair of glasses that didn't fit or have the right prescription and that price was after insurance. I went in multiple times to get it fixed and they wanted to charge me $600 to fix THEIR mistake. This happened to another family member as well. read more

I read the older reviews that were less than ideal, but couldn't resist the convenience of the location of Insight. I had a checkup with Dr. David Sweeney, and my kid had one with Dr. Rachael Sweeney. My daughter had a great appointment with Dr. Rachael. She is great with kids, and did a fantastic job with the exam, explaining everything to my daughter and to me. It was a very positive experience for both of us. As for my appointment with Dr. David, I was impressed with how thorough he was. He took his time and explained the process to me. He addressed my concerns, and explained what he saw. After our appointments with the doctors, my daughter and I looked at glasses for me. The selection was decent, and stylish, but not insanely expensive. The staff helped me quickly narrow my choices down. In the end, yes, the office is professional, in a very good way, as far as I'm concerned. The doctors did great with me, and my child. While in Atlanta on business last week, the lens popped out of my reading glasses again...yes, it happened a few weeks ago too. I found this office not too far from where I was working, explained that I was passing through and, though it was the lunch hour, they took care of me right away and treated me as though I were a longtime patient. The technician (sorry, forgot her name) fixed the glasses quickly and even took time to explain that the screw was stripped and how she fixed it. And they wouldn't accept payment. I was impressed with this office...very clean and professional. If I lived in the area, this would be my eyecare center! If they treat a stranger like that, imagine the service you'd get as a regular.... read more

I had been a patient of Dr. Sweeney's for well over a decade, and had always been happy with their service. However, recently I started noticing surprise charges on the bill. Be careful when they if you like the current pair of contacts you are wearing, because if they make a recommendation ()regardless of whether or not you elect to use the new brand or style) it will cot you $100. During my most recent visit with the doctor, all had gone well and upon checkout, was offered a new test they offered to determine if patients suffered or were prone to a particular genetic disorder. The test seemed like something in which i would not be interested, but after they assured me that my particular insurance would cover the costs, I went ahead with the test. The $255.04 bill i received from the diagnostics company is not why I will no longer visit Insight- their utter lack of sympathy or ownership of their mistake is the reason. I've always had a great experience at insight. I am seriously nearsighted, and this means I need to make sure my eyes are well taken care of to keep them healthily and seeing clearly. I've made the mistake of going to cheap eye places, but have found they don't take the time to address the whole picture of my eye health. Highly recommended! I absolutely love Insight Vision. They are always available to answer questions and always take great care of me. They immediately know my name and face whenever I walk through the door or call in with a question. I have very dry eyes and Dr. Sweeny has been extremely knowledgeable in the most current treatments and therapies available. He came recommended to me from an optometrist in Florida as one of the few providers in Atlanta that carries the type of punctal plug that my old optometrist wanted me to have. Also there was a new brand of daily contacts that he gave me and that I loved...and after looking online I found that these contacts were BRAND new and 1-800 contacts didn't even carry them yet. I appreciated having access to the most current contacts and other treatments out there. Dr. Sweeny works with me to get me whatever eye drops/glasses/eye exam I need and always is considerate of my time and the price. He makes sure to give me any discount coupons or anything else that is available - which is much appreciated for a poor student! When ordering contacts or glasses everything arrives promptly and they even repaired my glasses once when needed new lenses, free of charge. Everyone here is kind, friendly, and willing to help. He has demonstrated great patience and willingness to make changes until he found the best solution for my needs. During my first visit they took a digital image of my retina so that they could note its present condition and compare my eye health from visit to visit. This technology wasn't even mentioned by my prior eye care professional. In my recent visit to Dr. Sweeney's office I was surprised to be examined using a fully electronic, digital prescription testing system. No more manual lens rotation to arrive at a prescription. I was so pleased when I visited Vision Source Insight Eyecare. They were polite, courteous, patient and friendly. When I told them I did not have enough money for the additional tests on my eyesight that they wanted to do, they did it for free saying "since I was older, they needed this base line information and cared about my health!" Since I am retired, it was a pleasant surprise and much appreciated and I enjoyed the genuine concern they had for my health. The doctors were patient, friendly and spent time with me and I did not feel that they were rushing to get to another customer. When I was finished with my exam, their optical shop is in the same facility and I found the staff to also be helpful and friendly and didn't pressure me to buy what they wanted me to buy. I went to Insight because my previous eye doctor was working there..(Dr Jeff Mellom)..The staff was not inviting at all... Dr. Mellom has been my eye doctor for years and I love his bed side manner. Not stuffy, gives me the real deal of what I need. Needless to say I went to Dr.Melloms office in Canton this year and learned that I was not eligible for my benefits because I had used them this year.....Guess where I used them???? Apparently at Insight...the funny thing is I haven't been to Insight in almost 2 years!!! After calling Insight and being "jerked around" for and hour or so there explanation was that they "forgot" to submit my claim so they used my benefit for this year!!! Really you forget so I have to pay??? I have filed and Insurance fraud claim!!! Get your stuff together already!!! Glad my favorite eye doctors not there anymore!!! read more

Would not see Dr. Sweeney again. It was time for an eye exam and a new prescription for reading glasses when I first visited Vision Source. Because of some internal mix-up the new glasses took twice as much time to arrive as estimated and it was impossible to read using the new glasses. When I brought the glasses back complaining that the perscription lenses were incorrect - the doctor charged my insurance for a second visit and had the lenses remade. The second pair was no improvement over the first. When I complained that the service and quality of the lenses were poor and the charges to insurance were unfair Dr. Sweeney would make no adjustment to the charges for the visit. I ultimately saw another eye doctor, had new lenses made for the frames purchased at Vision Source. read more

Before my appointment, I had progressive lenses, or no line bifocals. When I arrived for my appointment, I was not seen until 50 minutes after my appointment time. Once in, I told the doctor I wanted a bigger reading area, because my current lenses had a very small area. He suggested Computer Lenses, which I had barely heard of before then, and he said it would be great for me. Since he was the doctor, I agreed. However, he did not take into account the top part of my progressives had a prescription. He also did not explain that computer lenses are essentially readers which cannot be used for anything else, but they are just as expensive as progressive lenses. I miss the prescription in the top part of my lenses, because now without glasses, if I look across the room, things are blurry, causing eye strain that was not there before. I called to ask if these could be changed to progressives, and they said no, I would have to buy a new pair, which is ridiculous. If I had a second pair that were progressives, I wouldn't need the first pair. I also hate that I paid so much for these lenses, when I could have gone to the local drug store and picked up a pair of readers for $20 and gotten the same result. I am highly disappointed at the customer service. I will not be going back. read more

walked in, friendly attractive ladies behind the desk, made an appointment for later that morning to have an eye exam. they said it would be $150 , i thought that was a little high since i usually pay around $100 but said what the hay lets do it. came back got started with the eye exam then about a third of the way through the technician informed me that its going to be a little over $60 extra for contact lens testing,, i wanted both a replacement prescription for my glasses and my contacts... I said I had never heard that one before, ive been getting eye exams for decades,, and eye exam is an eye exam, i also thought it was a bit strange letting me know that after i was well into the testing,,, so that would be over $200 just for the exam. I told her i was done and just got out of there. i called up pearls on peachtree and made an appointment fortoday for an eye exam for both contacts and glasses for $99. Beware when anyone tells you that they want to charge you extra. read more
