    Pizza was very bland
    Jim J.

We have eaten here many times and have always had delicious food and great surface this visit, however, was on a Friday evening and we had reservations. upon arrival We had to wait quite a bit before we were seated. We then waited a very long time before they brought waters to our table, it seemed like forever before they brought any bread to the table and and then took our order. my wife and I split the pizza and I can say the crust was done nicely, but the pizza was very very bland and would not recommend it as always. The ambience was like an upscale Italian place. Our food was bland, and the service was slow.

Hands down the best Italian place to eat in Indianapolis. I can't believe we had never tried this restaurant. The server was friendly, and she went over the menu and provided recommendations since it was our first time there. Their bread is so good, and dipping it in the Alfredo just took it to a whole new level. Their salad tasted so fresh and the dressing was great too. My husband love his shrimp pasta and I don't normally order lasagna out but was told it was some of the best lasagna ever made. Now they were not lying! The lasagna was next Level delicious! The cheese on top was quality! The filling was perfection and the noodles were cooked just right was well. All these components made the most perfect and delicious lasagna. If you have not tried this place you are missing out! The prices are reasonable, the food memorable, the staff super friendly. Sounds like the perfect combination to me!

    - Great Local Spot with Thoughtful Service Vito Provolone's has a unique vibe--somewhere between relaxed and refined. The staff had great energy, very attentive and friendly throughout the night. We started with the cheese bread, and it was excellent--crispy, cheesy, and flavorful. She ordered the Chicken Alfredo and loved it. I had the Filet Marsala, and I was impressed they nailed the medium cook just right. The filet itself was good (a little charred in spots), and while I liked the wine sauce, the pairing with spaghetti didn't quite hit for me. Dipping garlic bread into the sauce actually made it more enjoyable. We finished with tiramisu, which was okay but a bit watery for my taste. I also grabbed a cannoli to go, and that ended the night on a high note--really tasty. Overall, it's a solid local restaurant with great service and energy. I'd definitely come back--probably to explore the seafood next time.

This local hang out is well know and for sure you want a reservation if going on a 'normal' hour! We spontaneously chose to try it and had to wait about 30 minutes - but it was well worth it! The menu is a decent size but don't expect everything, so it is more manageable and this all options are good. I was craving pesto so asked for a pasta with pesto, and even though not on the menu they did it! Much appreciated! The ambience is nice and feels a bit more upscale but casual as well. Our server was professional and helpful and prompt. The food was amazing and it was so plentiful we ended but brining almost half home. We will for sure go again and get another option, and make a reservation this time. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been.

Ask the Community - Vito Provolone's

Do they have Gluten Free Entrees?

They have gluten free spaghetti and you can get it with any of their sauces.

Do they offer any entrees with gluten free pasta?

I asked for a gluten free option when I went and was pleased to be able to get GF spaghetti. They can put any sauce you like on it. This helped me out having gluten free pasta.

Do they hand make their pasta?

I'm not sure. But the food is delicious & service is excellent.

Phone number stated it has been changed and the new number is unknown. Has this restaurant closed?

We ARE OPEN! We were having phone trouble the last few days. I thought it was fixed yesterday. Did you have trouble today (Friday)? Thank you!

I'm not a deli kind of guy…read more But, there's just something about Shapiro's that makes me smile. I'm a lifelong hoosier, and I've always had times when I simply needed to go to Shapiro's. I've shared, quite often, of my deep appreciation for the Shapiro's response when I had accessibility concerns about their Fashion Mall location. They did a remarkably beautiful job of responding well, adapting, and yet also honoring their own business needs. The end result became a more accessible layout that was still customer friendly for everyone. I will always appreciate that response and should their praises. But, there's something special about this location. It's the look. It's the feel. It's the vibe. It's just everything. A little bit of Shapiro's history - you can trace the Shapiro family back to 1795 Ukraine. Louis and Rebecca Shapiro landed stateside in 1905; within a couple years opening a small grocery/deli. In 1925, they leaned into their cultural and faith roots after the election of Ed Jackson as governor (Jackson was a well-known Klan member). They added the word "kosher" to their building and a Star of David. (As someone who's traveled over 7,000 miles by wheelchair, I love a good act of subtle rebellion). They more and more leaned into their cafe routes, and in 1984 added a second location on the northwestside. I probably frequented this location the most since I went to Pike High School. As we all know, that location eventually closed. Fashion Mall lasted about five years. There was a Carmel spot, too. But, for me, it always comes down to this location. It's warm. It's friendly. The food is a premium deli experience. I love the meatloaf (like seriously). They have breakfast, they have a ton of baked good options (cakes, cookies, others), soups, salads, hot deli, cold deli, sandwiches, entrees, and a whole lot more. I love the baked goods. I love the fried chicken. Is it a bit pricey? Yep. You also get enough for at least a couple meals (if you can truly hold out that long). Accessibility is solid here. I've already talked about their attention to that kind of detail. It's real AND it's sincere. Strangely enough, I've never had the Reuben here. It's one of their acclaimed sandwiches, but there's always something else I want more. While you can spend a fair amount here, you can also eat here pretty modestly. Shapiro's, at least for me, is one of those places that defines Indy. I'd likely weep if they ever left our city. Good food. Great family. Wonderful location. Fair pricing. Accessible. Quite honestly, it's just about everything I want a restaurant to be.

It was a little confusing. Several of the items on the menu were very appealing, the B&B Omelet, Croque Monsieur, and Ribeye French Dip to name a few, but I opted for the Little Gem Caesar with Blackened Salmon. My husband ordered The Traveler with eggs over-medium. Everything was perfectly prepared. The proportions for the salad were just right and the salmon was juicy, flavorful and crisp from the blackening. My husband wasn't expecting the somewhat unique preparation of the breakfast potatoes, but I found them to be satisfyingly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I also ordered the seasonal Strawberry Margarita with a sugar rim. It was light and refreshing. The atmosphere is very chic, stylish and feels very upscale. The dining room, and even the restrooms, boast this amazing natural light from all of the great, big windows! Our server, Roop, was kind and attentive and the hostess was warm and inviting. We will definitely return to try some of the other offerings in the future. Very cute brunch spot!

Honestly, we wish they'd been served more simply because we wanted to compare them to the ones we've had in Japan, and all the sauce made that tough. Still a fun order though. Skip the Seafood Pot, in our opinion. It tasted like Bird's Nest to us and just wasn't anything special compared to everything else. Bottom line: come for the sushi.
