I really enjoyed my visit to Vito Provolone's. The service (Amy) was pleasant and efficient, the food cooked perfectly, and the atmosphere was comfortable and well suited for Italian dining. After parking in their lot out front, I was one of the first customers and was greeted and then seated on the right side of the restaurant. They have a partial brick wall that blocks off the view of the rest of the restaurant unless you are standing. It also helps reduce the effect of the opening of the door when it is cold out. After hearing about the day's wine special ($3.50 a glass), I opted for a nice Chardonnay. I placed my order for stuffed mushrooms (lots of cheese and spinach), and Orange Roughy Florentine which comes with choice of a side salad or a cup of soup. I chose the salad. My server then asked if I would like the salad brought out before the mushrooms since they would take a while to prepare. (Great move!) I said yes and enjoyed my salad (dressing came on the side...another plus) while waiting. And before I finished the salad, an entire loaf (8") of sliced garlic bread arrived hot from the oven. Very tasty and hard to resist eating it all at one time. The mushrooms (6) were covered with cheese that was melted and stretchy, but not impossible to cut or bite through. Just about perfect! Some were bite sized and others I simply cut in half and had no problem finishing them. Highly recommended. Note that my server was clearing plates whenever she passed by and kept my water glass filled as well throughout the evening. A pro! My entree came out and looked fantastic. There was a bed of spinach (with roughy bits underneath) and two fillets of fish that appeared to be covered with paprika and two slices of lemon on the side. It looked great and was cooked perfectly! Most and flaky. The only problem was that there just wasn't much flavor. Not sure what the chef was going for. The white fish doesn't have a lot of flavor on its own and though I added the lemon and even a little bit of salt, I couldn't get much flavor out of it. The paprika was not adding much to the flavor, so I was a bit disappointed because it looked so yummy. There was nothing wrong with it, it was simply less flavorful than I had hoped. I passed on dessert and was quickly processed after letting my server know I was finished. Came with a group of about 8. They sat us in the back room so there was plenty of distancing. I hadn't been here in about 10 years and I was so excited to learn this is where we were headed! It loved those chicken Alfredo and chicken Marsala back in the day. Faced with the dilemma of which one to get, knowing I wouldn't be back for a long while again, I decided to go with the one I thought was mostly likely to be the same- the Alfredo. It was as delicious as I remember. In hindsight I wish I'd gone the other direction and just asked others for bites of theirs but now I just have a reason to go back. Vitos is absolutely worth the try! So to start they are a smaller business so it can feel really packed and limited seating so I always order my food to go. The customer service has been great to me, I can't speak for others. They are super nice people. I usually get the Vodka Sauce pasta ( I add chicken for protein ) and it's delicious!! I love a family owned Italian restaurant. Waited just a few minutes for a table--they were busy on a Tuesday night--which is always a good sign. Our waitress had quite a few tables, but she was fantastic and had it all under control. Based on Yelp recommendations I order the vegetable lasagna. Our waitress recommended the Chicken Diablo when my husband asked. Nice simple, fresh salad and bread prior to the entrees. Entrees served piping hot and were delicious. My boyfriend and I came in an hour and a half before close on a Sunday night because we had a coupon from the Indy Entertainment book. It is a very small place, with a nice ambiance. I ordered the Seafood Alfredo with a salad and he ordered the Spinach Tortellini with bacon potato soup. He also requested that the chef add some ham to his tortellini. He loved the soup, it was gone in seconds. He really liked the tortellini a lot as well, and it was nice of whoever was in the kitchen to allow his request. I thought the Seafood Alfredo was okay. I think it was a little salty, and kind of boring- it was noodles with a few shrimp and some imitation crab. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend it personally. The salad was great. For dessert i had a slice of tiramisu and he had something I can't remember the name of- ice cream rolled in hazelnut powder. I liked mine, but I would have preferred it without the overwhelming chocolate sauce. I thought his ice cream was good, but he thought it was boring "it just tasted like ice cream" A couple at the table next to us complained about their meals as soon as the waitress was gone they said they hated the pizza and she made better Marsala at home. I can't say whether this is true or not because I didn't taste either. OVERALL: Overall the food is mediocre and a little overpriced. Don't go with high end expectations. I would have even given three stars, however the service was impeccable. The single waitress was on the ball the entire hour we were in there, and took some customer rudeness in stride. I loved this place. It is so cute and the service was wonderful. Our server was super nice and on top of everything. We went on a Wednesday, so wine bottles were half off. Yay! I ordered the pasta with vodka sauce and I added an Italian sausage. It was spicy, saucy and amazing. My hubs ordered the clam linguine and it was really tasty. Vito's is my favorite Italian place on the south side! It's reasonably priced, boasts good service, and the food is both delicious and obviously made from scratch. My go to meal is penne with vodka sauce and grilled chicken. The sauce is thick, rich, and spicy. I will note-- I find that there is often variation in how spicy the vodka sauce is. It's supposed to be spicy, but I've had it so spicy at times that I couldn't eat it without either sending it back or, if I got it as take out and brought it home, adding cream to it and warming it in the microwave. Regardless, it's delicious and filling and the portions are large enough to have some leftovers. If I'm in the mood for seafood, their seafood fettuccine is to die for!! It's buttery, creamy, and rich beyond belief. If you're feeling seafood tonight, get this one! Vito's in a south side tradition. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time so I met my son and his family there. It was my Christmas to them and my daughter in law's birthday. I was not impressed at all and I doubt I will ever go back. The service was a little slow at first but she was a little busy. That's fine because I get it. I work in the industry and I saw she was busy. We finally got our food ordered and I got the linguine with clam sauce. The noodles were way overcooked and the sauce was too watery. My daughter didn't care for her dinner. And my grandson couldn't eat his. I'm really not a picky person but 3 out of 4 dishes were inedible. She took our dinners off but put the salads back on the tab. Our dinner ended up still being $88. And I left completely dissatisfied and I had to fix something to eat when I got home. The Absolute BEST Italian food in the US. I've been to many Italian restaurants and this one is by far the best ever. I always have the Chicken Marsala and the salad with honey mustard poppyseed dressing with a glass of white wine. My husband always got the Chicken Limone, which I don't think they offer anymore. The accompanying garlic bread is to die for! My kids used to always get the fettuccini, but as they have gotten older, they have broadened their choices. We picked up Vito's for my birthday several years in a row and prior to this, we would go there. Once when my daughter was about 6, I took her to lunch at Vito's as a special event. She had a blast. I've also been there with colleagues from work. They don't take reservations for under 6 people, so get there early or you may have a wait. At one point they had a second restaurant in Downtown Indy, but that didn't last. Too bad!! We need more finer Italian restaurants in Downtown Indy. read more
