I've lived in Owings Mills for about a year now. I knew this place was just around the corner, but for a while it had been closed for renovations. I am a huge fan of Korean BBQ and having a quality place nearby is always a treat to have. Thankfully, this was actually one of the best experiences I've had at a Korean BBQ. The usual experience sees a server prepping and cooking in front of you upon your order à la carte. However, at this location, things are buffet style and for the nighter quality meats and items, that was upon ordering from the direct staff. My family and I went to Volcano Hot Pot for my brothers birthday and had a blast. Our wonderful serve Jenny provided us a complimentary plate of wagyu steak and all you can eat options. She made sure to attend to our every request. The vibe is super cool and vibrant and modern with plenty of colors and music. I highly recommend paying this spot a visit. Checked out Volcano hot pot and kbbq recently because they were running a 50% off promotion and had a great experience! I was very happy with the genuinely kind interactions I had with our server and staff; everyone was so helpful! I was so surprised to see that they also included sushi and sashimi in their All You Can Eat hot pot and kbbq deal. This was a nice bonus that I was not expecting and their sushi tasted freshly made. The variety here was amazing; there was an appetizers bar, sauce bar, and large selection of meats, vegetables, noodles and more to choose from on the iPad for your hot pot or kbbq. Definitely left feeling very full and happy! For the kbbq, lots of the meats were marinated. My only critique was the meat quality was a bit of a hit or miss, where some options like the thick cut pork belly and short rib cooked up nicely but others like the garlic brisket ended up being overly chewy and not tender. I was grateful for the frozen selection of meats because eventually I was feeling some flavor fatigue after eating so many marinated meats.. we cooked up the frozen beef belly and thinly sliced pork which were DELICIOUS! I came for a special promo for 50% off the bill! For that, it was incredibly worth. They likely don't often do promotions like this, but it was fun to experience. This concept is similar to KPot, which also has Korean BBQ and hotpot combined. What's different at Volcano, is that you order the KBBQ items on the iPad, but you can get your own hotpot items at the self-serve bar. I actually like that, because it means I don't have to wait for those items to be delivered. For the food items, they had a great variety. They had many cuts of meat, seafood, vegetables, and even appetizers at the food bar. I came in a party of 6, and while we all got our own broth pots for the hotpot, there was only one KBBQ grill! And it was on the far right. So I found it a little inconvenient to be reaching over other guests. Anyways, the food tasted fresh but not outstanding. Which is expected, given it's all you can eat. The servers were very nice. When there was a mistake on our bill, they rectified it super quickly! I did notice they were swamped this day (probably because of the promotion), so I was impressed they kept up well. My food orders did get lost once, but not a huge deal since we had the iPad to order whenever we wanted. Food was delivered quickly. This makes it a lot easier to see what is offered and grab as little or as much as you want of an item. For this visit, I got the hot pot with the soup base Tom yum. I got a bunch of ingredients to go into my hot pot but what stood out to me was the vast seafood selection which included crab and oysters. First time at the volcano. This is one of those experience restaurants. Not sure if I would frequent here very often. It's one of those places for me to say I have tried it and knocked it off my list. Stag is very friendly and attentive. They did a good job of explaining the restaurant and how the process works with the food. The food could have been seasoned a little better but I get why it's not seasoned. When cooked it made some of the food a little dry and not very flavorful even though I tried to season it as beast as I could. They have a common area so you have to get up to get your own raw food, but that lets you bring as much or as little as you want. It is efficient and you don't have to wait for staff to bring you stuff. There are a couple of extra stuff like free milk tea that are not much to write about but different to KPOT. I also hear that you can get sushi and stuff on weekend nights, but I was here on a weekday lunch which was about $20. All and all a solid AYCE hotpot/bbq place. Taste: 2 paws Value: 2 paws Service: 5 paws Overall: All you can eat hot pot and Korean BBQ with less variety and quality when compared to KPot. Good if you're looking for something local in Owings Mill, but otherwise not worth the drive. This is Volcano Hot Pot & BBQ's first expansion into Maryland, and unfortunately, was very underwhelming when compared to other established AYCE hot pot / Korean BBQ restaurants likes KPot. My main complaint with Volcano Hot Pot & BBQ is the low quality and excessive fattiness of their meat. Their meat had almost no marbling, which made for a fairly tough and chewy meal. None of the excess fat was trimmed off either. The selection at Volcano was also significantly more limited compared to KPot, who offers many more cuts of beef, chicken, pork, seafood, vegetables, etc. The one "advantage" of Volcano is that you get to pick your own ingredients to cook with, which unfortunately didn't really matter when the quality of meats was just so uniformly inferior to what's offered at their competitors. Had their meat quality been similar, this would have been a potential selling point as those who preferred leaner/fatter cuts can self select. The service was Volcano was great and was on par with KPot; the servers were attentive and refilled water and changed out the grills frequently. The cost of the AYCE combo was ~$34.99 + a 18% gratuity, which is about the same as KPot. Ultimately, when the price of Volcano is almost the same as KPot's, they need to either offer the same quality, variety, and/or give some other reason to come here. And unfortunately they did not succeed in doing so. Unless you are limited to Owings Mills, I would strongly recommend going to KPot in Catonsville or Towson for a much better experience. read more

So, my girlfriend had a birthday today and she wanted to come here. We arrived at 130pm and noticed that the parking lot was virtually empty..aside from 4 vehicles. We went inside and there were no customers visible. We stood at the podium waiting to be seated. There was a guy setting a table(I think that was what he was doing) towards the back and another guy sitting at the bar...approximately 10 feet from us.He had to be an employee because he was wearing the company's shirt. I saw some of the comments talking about the seasoning of the meat and I get it to a certain extent. If I was getting a plate of steak as a main dish I would expect it to be seasoned but in this case the meat is more of a side while the broth and sauces are meant to elevate it. There were BBQ meats that were seasoned well but the other meats to me were just fine since I put it in my soup. I loved the variety of vegetables, meats and eggs and cooked foods. Everything was clean and presentable. I liked being able to try things that I would normally have stayed away from but you can get a little bit and not feel like you're wasting it. The service was good and the waitress was attentive cheering off the extra plates and filling up our drinks. Overall I would come again and try the other spicy soup. I really like this place. Other Hot Pot spots require you to check off what you want from a list and they bring the whole thing to you. I like the buffet style better so I can pick what I want and how much I want. I was impressed with the variety and freshness of the food. I've been there 3 times already.
