What a wonderful place to visit, drink beer, eat delicious food and enjoy time with the ones you love! The drive is worth it. Winding roads through woods up the mountain. Lots of parking was available and of course best time to go is off season. We had our choice of tables. Inside, out on the patio or in a sort of sunroom that's air conditioned. Our waitress was super friendly, professional and attentive to all our needs! We ordered a charcuterie board for starters and then a brat sampler with pork belly. All the food was delicious! They have the best beer. Something for everyone. We definitely enjoyed the trails through the woods to get up to the coffee shop and visit with the cows! Our first time coming to Stowe and it did not disappoint! This establishment was in our list to visit. My family and I came Memorial Day Weekend. At first, we tried to get reservations for Sunday evening but it didn't workout out. We tried again the following afternoon and were able to get a reservation for lunch. Staff was very friendly. Food was delicious and plentiful -- family style meal portions to share and there was a great selection of beer that we enjoyed. The brewery had the German euro feel to it with very good beers and full food menu. Bratwurst, schnitzel, sausage, and pretzels available. Really enjoyed our meal here! This was our first stop upon arriving in Stowe on a snowy day, and it really was picturesque. The interior is open and spacious, but cozy. It has the perfect bier hall vibe. It was pretty quiet because it was an off time and due to the snow. I have been here when it's bustling. Service was friendly and fast. Their lagers are always great and pair perfectly with your food, whether you're having snacks or a meal. We shared a schnitzel style chicken sandwich with fries and fresh spatzle with roasted vegetables. We had a lot of great food on this trip, but this was one of my favorite meals. The chicken sandwich had great flavor and the chicken was crunchy without having too much breading. The fries were crisp and well seasoned. Let's talk experiences.. a brewery tour can be boring if you aren't into beer. But the Von Trapp Brewery has so much family history behind them (can I get a "the hills are alive" ) that this was an enjoyable tour. Set in the hills of Stowe, with beautiful views, you are immersed into a proud, strong, family run legacy. You start off in the event space that overlooks the entire brewery for some really stellar Birds Eye views of the space. Then they walk you through all the different areas explaining the process for famous Austrian beers. Standing next to the huge vats was super cool, as well as seeing the canning process. After the tour of the facility, we got to sample about 4 different beers. As someone who does not like beer, I was impressed that I liked one of the golden lagers, Helles! Maybe I'm a Sound of Music fangirl, but the only thing I ever knew about the town of Stowe is that the von Trapp family had a brewery there. I just kind of thought everyone knew this, but when I sent friends and family photos from the brewery, they were all surprised. So I'm here to tell you that Johannes von Trapp, the youngest and (as of 2025) last surviving child of Georg and Maria von Trapp, manages the Trapp family resort/brewery in Stowe, VT, where the family eventually settled in the 40s. Since we were staying in Burlington and had a free day, we decided to check out the brewery and Ben & Jerry's. The brewery is large and has lots of taxidermy to look at. The outdoor area was perfect for the sunny day. We each got a beer to try - I had the radler, which was less citrusy than I usually prefer, but refreshing. We didn't have any food, but it all sounded really delicious, with specialties like schnitzel, spaetzle, bratwurst, etc. They have a small gift shop that was full of some really cute items, and we all liked the logo - I was lucky enough to get some coasters as a free souvenir. So happy to have checked this one off my list. read more

Lovely restaurant with quality food. We were seated in the solarium which gave us a nice view of outside. The food was excellent. Everything was expertly prepared and perfectly seasoned. They have a terrific selection of beers and a few wines. Our waitress was missing in action for a period of time but I think they were understaffed. She was fabulous when we had her attention and we weren't left without anything for too long. I think if you are visiting the Von Trapp Lodge, the Bierhall is worth a visit more than their main dining hall. All of the best offerings can be found here. read more

The last time I came to Vermont the brewery was just opening so we had only taken a tour of it but now we have the whole bierhall! So cool! My family has a share of the guest houses at Trapp so we decided to come to the hall for dinner and trivia on Thursday night. Omg we had the best time!! Not only did we win but we had a great meal. Our friends enjoyed the wine and beer offerings and they had a black bean burger and a few other vegetarian options for us. The food was ok but you're really paying for the ambiance and environment I think. The pretzel with the mustards was the best! They have an awesome outdoor area as well as an indoor dining and bar area. Whether you are here with a small party or a giant group, they can easily accommodate your needs. The food was excellent. We began with their pretzels. The two were gone in seconds. We also ordered the following: Deer Braised Pull Pork, Johannesburger, Grilled Bratwurst Sandwich, and Chicken Fingers. Everything was delicious. I also ordered an amber ale beer (Vienna). I'm hoping that this is available at home. It hit the spot. The bartender who helped us out was great. He was very attentive. Despite MANY empty tables, we had to wait until the time of our reservation. I think it's to stagger seating for the kitchen & waitstaff? But it was a bit weird... The pretzel appetizer was disappointing- they were out of pub cheese and the pretzels were a little overcooked and did not have enough salt. The mains made up for it though. Everything was seasoned fantastically - the fries, schnitzel, spaetzle & chicken fingers. The schnitzel was super thin & crisp. Kids' chicken fingers were great - really good sized portion and the chicken was super crispy on the outside, but moist on the inside. Service overall is not amazing - it all seemed disorganized. The beer was really well made, was nice to have a choice of European style beers - my husband would have loved the dark lager but they didn't have it that time of year. Service was ok. 10/9/25 My husband, and I were traveling through Vermont on our way to Maine and made a stop at this brewery. I've known nothing about this gem until I went inside and realized this is the family behind the movie? "Sound of music." I kind of was in shock, but in a good way, I kept reading more of the book they had on display in the gift shop, very interesting book indeed. We didn't stay for food, as we just came to try out the beers on tap. They don't offer flights so we ordered a variety to be able to try some. The brewery is quite large and lively. They do allow pets outside with their picnic tables. Although the ground is mainly gravel, so not perfect for pets paws, but their tables make for a good environment. It took a while to get our beers, but they were tasty and worth the wait. It was such a unique experience and we hope to return again in the future, next time to enjoy their food. read more

A funny place to visit. We stopped by for a light lunch. The restaurant is very popular but minimalist furniture except for the dead wild animal decorations on the walls. Lines can be long. There's indoor, atrium and outdoor dining. The second floor observation deck leads to a view of the facility beer making vats. It looks like it's also the place for large group parties. We tried the brat which came with a delish roll and brat and a side order of spatzle. The spatzel was nicely cooked but over salted. My cheddar ale soup was Ok, tad too spicy and bland. This place is huge and the surrounding area is gorgeous. The service was great. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and friendly. He recommended the dish I had and the food was really good. The pickles were super juicy, the flavor on the meat was fantastic and I added some of the mustard they offer. Other drinks - the bar doesn't serve anything other than beer and wine. No mulled wine or hot totties available!! Come on, you're next to Stowe! Making a warm apres ski drink is almost required! Food - appalling. Fritters - Consistently burned fritters made we wonder if the fry cook just doesn't know any better? They should be removed when they are medium brown. If you forget them, DON'T serve and try again! Radish salad - nice radishes but the dressing was absent. One of the points of a salad is to provide a counter to the flavors in the entree...add more or include an additional portion of dressing. Chicken Schnitzel- first, use pork instead, it's easier, cheaper and better. But, if you're using chicken don't overcook it! It'll be dry and a poor representation of a famous abs popular dish. read more

We really enjoyed our time here!! I would def say make a resy cause they get super packed and busy! We had a couple people in front of us who asked for a table and they were told it was going to be a 2 hour wait. Sooo def make a resy. We got to sit outside which was great cause the weather was amazing and honestly the views were super nice. I opted to get the chicken schnitzel while hubby got the brat platter. Both were very good and it was def a good amount of food! We also got the pretzel and queso to start and that was tasty as well. After our meal, we checked out the gift shop which is connected to the restaurant. Von Trapp is such a huge property so after we ate, we hung out around the area just taking in nature. I've been here several times since I stay at the Trapp Family Lodge every summer, but I have to stay my most recent visit to the Bierhall was really impressive. First, the atmosphere of this place is really special. Inside is a new, open, modern bierhall, with beautiful outdoor seating available. The food is always good, but this year it was amazing. We had the pretzels with beer cheese (a must-try) then me and my friends all had the chicken schnitzel sandwich... delicious! We stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge for 3 nights so we actually visited the Bierhall twice! Once for dinner and once for lunch. For dinner we sat outside, as they have a great sitting area if the weather is nice. We saw white cheddar soup on the menu and knew we had to have some. What a great decision it was to order it. I would've never thought to put green onions on top but it fabulously complimented it! The server was so nice and made some great suggestions about the menu! I ordered the beer braised pulled pork sandwich! It was fantastic and different than what your typical pulled pork sandwich is like. My mom got the chicken schnitzel sandwich and also really enjoyed it. For lunch, we decided to keep it simple. We ordered the pretzels and beer cheese to share along with the charcuterie plate. If you're not super hungry and/or not looking to get too full, sharing these two items between two people is the perfect amount! read more

Excellent experience all around yesterday. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Highly recommend - it's a busy place! Our waiter (my apologies, I forgot his name! Tall and bald, if that is helpful) was attentive and had a great sense of humor. He noticed little things...it was our son's college graduation and daughter's birthday, we had brought them each a gift. He offered to bring them a chair to put them on so they weren't awkwardly on the table. The food was really delicious. We got a pretzel app that I did not try. Only complaint about that is that you have to pay $5.00 extra for a small amount of bier cheese, most places that comes standard. The bratwurst appetizer and accompanying tomato salad was flavorful. My family each got a chicken schnitzel sandwich. They enjoyed theirs a lot. I got the roasted vegetable spaetzle and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever tasted. My daughter tried a bite and agreed. Between the 4 of us, We got each of the 3 desserts. The raspberry shortbread was the clear favorite. They each had a different beer, I had the maple lemonade. All were great. While it was rainy, and we didn't get to enjoy them, the grounds looked beautiful. Honestly, the only thing we didn't love, (and it's personal preference), is the creepy dead taxidermy animals everywhere. They threw off the vibe and don't really add anything. Been a long time von trapp fan, buy their kegs for my home bar frequently. I was excited to visit the brewery for the first time today, always wanted to go. Mister grumpy mcgrumperstein (bar server with silver beard and red readers) hardly acknowledged me after I got seated at the bar, not even a word or a simple hi, just threw down the menu and walked away. Finally came by to take my order and not even a word even after I tried to make small talk. I wasn't the only one after observing his interaction with other patrons. Poor experience and definitely not welcoming. I wanted to try a few beers so I knew what to maybe get for my next home keg but it was like pulling teeth to get service. I had my one beer and left. Too bad, looked like a cool spot and was looking forward to spending time but never mind. Bummer! If your employee can't be happy serving beers to happy customers in a beer hall, time to show him the door. read more

We split a pretzel with cheese and the mustards that were on the table. The pretzel was ok at best, I expected more. Our table also got small pours of beer, which were all just fine. For entrees, a couple of us got the chicken schnitzel, which came with an overwhelming amount of sauerkraut, and failed to provide the lingonberry vinaigrette. Both also ordered spatzle on the side, which came out overcooked. Two others got the bratwurst, knackwurst, bauernwurst platter, which were all fine. The final individual got the grilled salmon, which we collectively agreed was the best option at our table. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, but wanted so much more from the food. While I won't be visiting the bierhall again, I will be trying the other restaurants at the von Trapp Family Lodge. read more

Stopped in around 11:45 and it was pretty empty but that changed since by the time we left an hour later, it was super busy! I got samplers of the helles and trosten and liked them both! The helles I could drink all day since it's a nice light beer that is totally my style. The trosten is a bit heavier but still super flavorful. We shared the pretzels and their spicy mustard is wonderful! We also had the bratwurst sandwich and the black bean burger. Both were tasty but I think the side dishes that came with our entrees were even better than our sandwiches- the cucumber salad and the braised red cabbage were unexpected favorites of the meal!
