One-Stop Shop | It's a full-on grocery store with nearly everything you need in every category! You will find the bakery, deli, fruit, food, snacks, drinks & so much more! You name it, Von's has it! Fresh Flowers | Once inside, my first stop is always to see the gorgeous flowers, as they're right when you walk through the door! They always have such beautiful, colorful & vibrant flowers & nine times out of 10, I buy some!! I've also purchased flowers for the women/girls at the counters at the front desk of the hotels I've stayed, at as a thank you for excellent customer service! The element of surprise is fantastic once I hand them over! Stay Hydrated | I'm a water girl, as it's my favorite drink! After I check into my hotel, I always walk over to Vons to stock up on bottled water for my refrigerator! You Decide | You can stand in line or checkout in the express lane on your own! Also, customer service is awesome & often nearby in case you have questions! Earth Love | I purchased two pretty reusable Vons bags that has gorgeous scenery of Catalina Island on the front & back! I understand that unfortunate circumstances can happen to people but for a store to not provide staff to step into a role when there seems to be no other option the island to provide services is ridiculous! I realize it's an island, but that means being able to have someone to make a cake for a wedding should not be a stretch, especially as many weddings are promoted on Catalina. What other option do you have when you just need a simple cake for an elopement. I'm already having to bring literally everything with me on the ferry. It's just astonishing that there's not something in place as the backup plan. It's not like I was asking for anything truly custom - just a simple round cake that has frosting. If you're on Avalon and you need food, this is the place to go. This would actually save you a lot of money too cause you can go here. The deli is great. They have a lot of sandwiches and foods everything you would want at Vons. Could save you money from going to any of the restaurants they also have a fresh bakery and everything else. Their service is great on the staff is super nice and it's a nice clean store to go to when you're on the island always remember that they have a Vons there. This vons is pretty stacked considering that it's basically the only spot to shop on the island. Everyone is friendly and they always have some great things on discount. Produce is always fresh and in good shape. I have yet to come across a product that is bad. This Vons in Avalon is an absolute game-changer for Catalina Island! Built in 2019 (learned that fun fact in our adventure tour )it's modern, clean, and impressively well-stocked for an island grocery store. You can really tell this was a major upgrade for the community. The store layout is spacious and easy to navigate, the produce is fresh, and there's a great selection of everything from everyday essentials to vacation snacks and drinks. Prices are reasonable considering the location, and the staff is consistently friendly and helpful, exactly what you want when you're on island time. Only downfall: the restroom felt like a sauna. It was so hot in there that it was genuinely uncomfortable, and I came out sweating. Please turn the AC on in the restroom, it would make a big difference! Overall, whether you're a local or visiting Avalon, this Vons makes grocery shopping convenient and stress-free. Still highly recommend! read more

BLAS: THANK YOU! My wife and I had a fun time on the island. As with all travel involving hotel stays, we missed certain items from our home. Fortunately, Vons came to the rescue. We were happy to load up on our favorite items. In addition to being pleasantly surprised with how well stocked the store was, we left very impressed with BLAS, an excellent Customer Service Associate/Cashier. Blas was incredibly helpful; he provided upbeat and tireless excellent customer service to not just us but to all customers he assisted. We visited the store often and always chose Blas' line. Other customers were visibly just as pleased with Blas as we were. Blas helps create a warm, happy atmosphere -- often missing in supermarkets. Great store! Being one of the few grocery stores in Avalon, this Vons was pretty good. I was able to purchase reasonably priced breakfast for the next day as well as energy drinks. I felt the prices were on par with any other grocery store back at home so a great spot to grab microwavable foods and other needed necessities. read more

This Vons is great, especially considering the location on an island where it must be a logistical challenge to get products to stock the shelves. Prices are actually very good, and this a great place to buy drinks, snacks and bottled water. I even saw some pretty reasonable selection of souvenirs. The store is clean and the employees I interacted with were all friendly and professional. They actually pointed me to some of the better deals in the store to make sure I got the best value for my purchases. If you're thinking of maybe having a picnic on the island, or just want to buy reasonable drinks and snacks I recommend walking a few blocks from downtown and giving this Vons a try. read more

Betina is very rude and ruined the first night of my trip. She asked if I had bags (which I did) so I raised it to show her and said I do and smiled. She rolled her eyes and said in a very aggressive tone and snapped at me "so yes" then she yelled at me that she doesn't have time for my long winded answers and threw my items at me down the line. Great to have options on an island where food is expensive! It's definitely island prices, but use your app and make it work for you. We bought a loaf of French bread from the bakery and cut that in half and bought spinach and sale cheese and used the mustard from our Airbnb to make some sandwiches for our 11-mile hike. Was like $7 for all that v. just one deli sandwich for $10 and 2 for $20. Beer is also expensive, but again, cheaper than anywhere else. Look for markdowns with little red stickers because expiration is looming. Can get some great deals that way and make your stay CHEAP. Cutest parking lot ever with like 2 car spots and the rest of the spots for golf carts only. Mini for sure. read more

We've been to Vons a few times over several trips, and it has served us well. First, as far as I know, it's the only full grocery store on the Island, second it's easy to walk to, and third it has most of the common items that I'd expect to find mainland. It's small and tightly packed, and the grocery carts are small. We plan on this store to buy items that we have either forgotten, or snacks and light groceries so we aren't eating out at restaurant prices all the time. (A bottle of wine from here helps this cause considerably.) Our checkout has always been uneventful. read more

Giant modern Vons in Avalon. I believe this is where all the locals go. Still more expensive than the mainland, but the prices are actually reasonable--way cheaper than anywhere else to get food on this island. Service is quick even though they don't have to be. Store is always clean and stocked--which is impressive considering how difficult it is to ship to this island (I believe they get supplies boated in every day). This is the island's equivalent to the neighborhood Costco. It's a great option if you're vacationing on a budget. read more

This is a Sister store of Albertsons & Tom Thumb, with "U" deals in app. BRING YOUR REUSABLE GROCERY BAGS FROM HOME (there's a charge to use their paper bags & they have no plastic bags) & get their app for best savings. They have pretty good variety just like a typical Albertsons/Tom Thumb, at a little smaller scale, but they are 3-4X busier during tourist seasons! They do run out of common things by late afternoon, such as bread, common snacks, certain fruits, store-made sandwiches, some meats. However, there are plenty of other options for almost everyone. We got strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, frozen dishes, preseasoned fish, store-made potato wedges, store-made sushi, cookies, chips, & ice cream, during our 4-night stay. The sushi's were ok, wouldn't go for them again, the rice they were kinda "wet", more so than most good sushi. Potato wedges were good. Prices on everything else we got were comparable to normal groceries since I used the app for the digital coupons & savings. read more

So I was able to purchase every single item on my grocery list. I've only been to this store once prior like five years ago so I didn't really know the layout. I'm a loyal Vons shopper and come to Avalon multiple times per year. I just had the worst experience with a very rude check out person. He was so unfriendly I was actually surprised. He has checked us out in the past but this was terrible customer service. I will be calling Vons corporate when I get home to make a formal complaint. read more

Glad they had a grocery store on the island, and it is close to Avalon harbor and all the hotels, easy walking distance for sure. It is probably the smallest Vons I have ever been to but I was able to find everything that I was looking for. Was there right before new years and they must have not received a shipment because they were almost complete out of some basic items like salad. I heard that there used to be a different grocery store in the area that went out of business so I am happy there is something there for the residents. There were long lines to check out but they do offer self check out as well. Prices seemed a little bit more than on the mainland but I am sure that has to do with supply, demand, cost to get the products over o the island, etc. read more

I am pretty sure this is the smallest yet fully stocked Vons and probably the only grocery store on the island. There are liquor stores and other retail locations that carry a few things here in there, but the name is your one stop shop for multiple items and probably for those who live on the island. It was within walking distance from our hotel. You can definitely tell this isn't your average Vons with a parking lot full of golf carts! We needed a few items on our trip and made separate trips. They have a few self checkout registers As well as cashier's readily available to assist you and check out. The employees were friendly and Efficient, we did get carded for one of our purchases. This bonds is definitely on the smaller side compared to other locations in California, however it basically however they had everything except for bath bombs but we ended up substituting. read more

The last time I was in Avalon the Vons was moving from their old location to this new one. This was my first time shopping in here. I'm a comparison shopper so I pay attention to prices, and I was blown away to see their were no different than the mainland. I just assumed everything would have a markup for the inconvenience fee of transportation to the island but no, the prices were an even match with the Vons in my mainland suburb. Also, there was a big selection considering the size of this store. I bought a reusable VONS shopping bag with Avalon on it just for the novelty of having a shopping bag that says I came here. It's not going to make me look like a bigshot when I go shopping in my VONS back home, but it's still cool to have. Also, the people were nice which surprised me. To some extent I assume the locals are tired of tourists filtering into their places but they weren't. Thank you to everyone there. read more

The good: I got a strawberry rose coconut water here from my favorite coconut water brand Harmless Harvest. I've never seen this flavor carried before! I came here and got a fruit tart and tres leches. The tres leches was good and moist. The fruit tart was beautiful and tasted alright. The worker at the bakery was friendly. Their bakery section was great and offered a huge variety of sweets in different sizes. They also sell a lot of pool floaties here. The store was clean and organized. They have self check-out kiosks that made things quick and efficient. The bad: The market is on the smaller side but it's the only market I know of on the island. Therefore, it's "woohoo! As good as it gets!" The interesting: They have a lot of Mexican foods available here like conchas, tres leches, and more. The parking lot is tiny because it's catered to the golf cart parking. read more

Apparently this was the smallest Vons across the country but our tour guide told us that they recently expanded to take over the entire lot which previously was shared with a nursery. This is the new Vons and only grocery store in Avalon. We'v been to the old one before and it was super cramped. As new locals here we were very happy about this brand new location. It opens late everyday which is very convenient to get late night food and beverages. Store is very well stocked and has everything we ever need. The prices are the same as any other Vons. This is one stop shopping for all either you are locals or tourists. We don't mind making a couple runs here in a day to stock up on snacks and alcohol. It's one minute drive on our Polaris GEM cause we live pretty close by! read more
