Working in Green Hills/Berry Hill area, I'm always eager for new restaurants to combat the chains. I heard about this place from Style Blueprint and wanted to come check it out. I don't know much about Vietnamese food but am always up to try anything. I got the pork bahn mi and was absolutely not disappointed. Super flavorful, had the best texture to it and amazingly fresh. I'm already plotting my next visit. There was a salad I was going between, so I'll try that next. The only reason I gave this 4 stars was because the tables on the patio are used wire wheels, which props to them for reusing, reducing and recyclying, but the one we were at was so low, we were having to awkwardly bend over our plates. I'd give Viu's an emphatic 'meh.' Everything is very attractive--the dining room, the food, the dishes, the staff...and attractiveness (or cuteness, cleverness, hipness, sexiness, trendiness, etc.) seems to be a very important feature of new Nashville restaurants these days. That's great. I'm not opposed to attractive. I like attractive. But I like good food more. I love Vietnamese food for its bold, fresh, complex flavors that are well balanced in each dish. While the food at Viu's is definitely fresh--it is certainly not bold or particularly balanced--at least not the dishes my lunch companion and I had (noodle bowl with shrimp; lotus root salad). They were both very tame, bland affairs. I will say in both dishes the shrimp were cooked perfectly, no small feat. OH, and a note to all recent Nashville emigre restaurateurs: You don't open a restaurant in the South and NOT offer real brewed iced tea. It's just obnoxious. Vegan pho was very tasty. Lemongrass tofu was very tasty. Not sure why the banh mi baguette was blackened (and potentially slathered with butter...). Never had a cooked french baguette on a banh mi and I've had lots. read more

My friend and I came in for the soft opening and were very impressed with the friendliness of the staff. It kind of has a coffee shop feel to it with its simple menu and decor. You place your order at the counter where you are given a number and then take seat. There are two cute, little patios along with the regular indoor seating. This place has a lot of potential. Anytime Nashville gets a new Asian restaurant, I'm all over it! Vui's soothed my aching heart for good LA Asian food. I went with my friend, who's also from LA and is Vietnamese. While we agreed the food was overpriced compared to Cali, we also realize this place is one of a kind in Nashville. We both got the noodle bowl- hers with beef and mine vegetarian. They were really yummy and totally hit the spot. The staff was great- friendly and fast. The interior is adorable. Definitely pops and makes the whole space feel bigger and very clean. The staff was very nice and the atmosphere was cute. I also liked that they had vegetarian options but I have to be honest, the food wasn't that good. The pho broth was not authentic (bland and salty). I've eaten a LOT of Vietnamese food and this was definitely 'trendy white people pho' . It was over priced and the portion was way less than your average portion at other Vietnamese restaurants. Deliciousness in a bowl! Ordered the noodle bowl with lemon grass tofu, the tofu was perfect with just the right amount of texture to leave the middle juicy and tasty. We also ordered the Banh Mi with tofu, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my Banh Mi-it was good, had the right amount of vegetables to pate, not a fan of the bread that it came in-but it didn't stop me from eating the whole thing! Glad we gave each other another chance, Vui's! 10 months ago I visited Vui's for the first time, for veggie summer rolls and a vegan pho. While they definitely got it right with excellent customer service, the food needed a lot of work. For example, my pho broth was bland, the tofu was raw/uncooked, the mushrooms were tough and gritty, there were no jalapeños, and the summer rolls were mostly romaine. Thankfully, Vui's sends receipts to email by Square, and I was able to fill out the short form to give some specific feedback about my experience. The owner contacted me right away to respond to my concerns in a respectful way. They invited me back with a coupon to significantly discount my next meal. Best part: the coupon was good for a year out, so I could take my time. 10 months, in my case, but I'm so glad I made it back. My experience tonight was outstanding! They continued to get it right on all parts of the customer experience. Even the guy bringing out food and bussing tables, Nicholas, was a total delight--I could tell he really cared about his job and making people feel comfortable and welcome. I also had positive interactions with the stylish woman with the cool hair who keeps everything buzzing. And this time, the food was fantastic. The vegan pho had a nice deep, complex flavor. All I had to add was a squeeze of lime and a teaspoon of chili garlic sauce to kick up the spice. And the banh mi was everything I wanted in a sandwich: generous pieces of seared tofu that were creamy and smoky; a nice quick-pickled carrot (and perhaps daikon?) slaw; good-sized pieces of jalapeño; and a nice crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside demi-baguette. Pho is my MOST favorite but this was far from what I expect of good Vietnamese. Tasted more like canned soup than the Pho I have had at many different places in and around Nashville. You can get get far better than what feels like the McDonald's of Vietnamese cuisine. It seems lacking in so many ways. read more

We happily found Vui's after some morning shopping in the neighborhood. As we walked by, we could smell the most delicious aroma wafting out of Vui's. Once we confirmed they offered vegetarian items, we were undoubtedly going. I opted for the bun aka noodle bowl, which includes vermicelli noodles, romaine, arugula, fresh herbs, carrots, cucumbers, pickled daikon and carrots, peanuts, fried shallots, and scallion. I opted for the lemongrass tofu vegetarian option so skipped the fish sauce dressing. I told my boyfriend it was like an unwrapped spring roll. It was a perfect lunch option - healthy, filling, and giving you a boost for the rest of the day. My boyfriend opted for the pho, which has a twelve-hour bone broth. It includes white onion, scallion, cilantro, Thai basil, bean sprouts, lime, and rice noodles. He went with the tender beef slices protein. Again, this was very clean tasting and a most generous portion. If you're looking for a quick, bustling neighborhood spot for a lunch that won't bring on the need for an afternoon nap, this is your spot! read more

very disappointed if u look at the beef pho from the first pics to the 4th u will see they changed there beef. there beef pho was absolutely amazing. why they changed the cut meet to nasty hard strips to save money and loose customers over saving a possible 1.50ma bowl is beyond me!!!!! the soup is still amazing there sandwiches r great but the noodles and beef need to go back to when u guys first opened charge more if u have to people will pay it trust me!!!!!! keep on doing what u do but put the LOVE back in the food read more

We used to eat here all the time. Loved the personalized service and particular items on the menu (cabbage salad with chicken, noodle bowl with shrimp) that are no longer available. I loved those homemade rice crackers! I loved the original dressing....Clearly a big infusion of capital, lots of new restaurants--would be good if it were the same menu but the last time we ate at the original store, our entrees were not as good and the regularized hassle was irritating in the extreme. Just tried to order online (can't order over the phone) and stopped--how to request one gluten free sauce on the spring rolls for me and a regular sauce for my partner?! Can't. Menu looked fine. ordered the salad with no cucumbers. When it arrived, several items shown on the menu board were not included. When the waitress was asked specifically about the jicama, she disregarded it and stated it was in there, just look for it. It clearly wasn't so she then took the salad back to the kitchen where a cook added the cilantro. I was told that because I said to leave items out, they left it all out. I replied, I requested no cucumber. The cook arrived at my table to see why I was upset and we said for the third time, no jicima. He replied they've not carried any jicma in a long while and he wasn't sure why it was still on the menu. Not sure when I'll return. As a native Vietnamese, the food that was offered was not great at all. I got the Pork Belly Rice Bowl and I'm not sure what it was. It felt like I was eating straight fat. Everything else was fine but for me, if you are going to offer cultural food, make sure it tastes like it would at another Viet restaurant. We went here while it was freezing cold outside for some hot soup. We had the Vui's Original Pho. It was good, I mean I had better but it was still good. The bowls were big but I feel like there's not enough meat or noodles in there, you will have plenty of broth tho... We also had the fresh spring rolls, the ingredients were fresh but the rolls were pre made hence the rice wrapper is a little chewy instead of soft. All in all our tab was 2 bowls and an appetizer= $37 with tips and we only had tap water to drink. If you're looking for cheap pho place this is def not the place for you. read more

Really enjoyed our first visit to Vui's quick casual restaurant. There's plenty of picnic tables to eat at outside and a fair sized dining room. You order at the counter, then they bring your food to you. We tried the shrimp noodle bowl- the shrimp were grilled and had that slight black char to them, you could tell they were fresh off the grill. The flavors are very fresh and the bowl was s good size, not overly huge but plenty for lunch. The definite highlight for us was the warm coconut pudding- be still my heart! Warm sweet ooey gooey goodness, topped with chopped nuts and seeds. It's so delicious my husband stopped the other day to bring us home a bowl! A great place for a healthy quick meal.
