This is a terribly filthy place where you literally sit outside, though there is a small bar area inside. However, when you sit outside, homeless people wander all around you, and the air smells foul everywhere; right in the middle of all this, you sit and eat. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise--the service is terrible, The young blonde woman who served me was incredibly rude. She barely spoke at all, and was extremely insolent simply because she claimed I had given the wrong order. As for the food, I have no complaints--everything was delicious. We were seated in a corner both and there was barely enough space to sit and once seated my stomach was almost touching the table. A table was seated next to us and as they sat down, part of their booth broke. Although we went when the restaurant was mostly empty, the waitress made us feel like she was not happy we were seated and rushed us to order. Just an overall bad vibe from the waitress. Wabi is a little pricier, but the quality is lovely - the very important food breakdown is below. What we ordered: - Crispy Rice: This was made hot & fresh out the kitchen. Cute app, but have definitely had better/experienced more flavor elsewhere. - Broccolini: Comes in a smaller portion but was SO good. Not overly oily & perfectly seasoned. - Puck You!!! Roll: Delicious - I recommend this one. Spicy yellowtail, Thai Basil & Yuzu?! Say less. - Moonlight Rain: This one was actually my absolute favorite. Presentation on one THOU and flavor was perfectly balanced. Highly recommend. - Criss-Cross Lemon Sauce: Solid roll. We went here on a day date and I haven't been here in ages. I was impressed by the quality of the sushi. We got the 8 piece sushi with couple of rolls. The sushi was so fresh and melted in your mouth. The rolls were inventive, but not over-sauced, so the fish was still the star. It's such a cute vibe and the cocktails were really good. Hostess was really cool when we dropped by on a Friday night without a reservation. We opted to stay at the bar since we were just having drinks as it was very busy Friday night in the dimly lit, hip local restaurant/bar. There are a lot of outdoor seating options on both the sidewalk and patio. The circular bartop in the back of the restaurant is a great alternative to a regular table if you are stopping by without a reservation since they also offer their full menu there as well. One of the bar staff Eric, makes a really good Tom Collins and recommended a spicy margarita while my friends opted to try French 75's which paled in comparison to the Tom Collins. Wabi entails a cute bar-lounge ambience that just happens to emphasize a Japanese menu. This is not really what I'd call an authentic sushi place, and that's okay, but you'll want to know that because you'll be paying a similar high price for pretty but not amazing sushi. Most of the indoor seating is around the bartender's bar, with a separate small sushi bar area off to the side (probably because it's not meant as the focus), a few tables scattered around, and an insane amount of outdoor seating on the sidewalk with very limited heating options. Even with a reservation, they tried to sit us at a table outside during LA's cold spell - no, thank you. Then they said the bar was walk-in only, so we walked right up and sat at the bar. I came for dinner, and our food wasn't entered in properly so we ended up waiting ~40 minutes while asking for updates - only to find out that they made our food as a takeout order instead and had to send it back. Then another 15 minutes to wait for everything to be prepared again. For the price, just know you're here to have a good time and catch up with friends - but not to have a serious, amazing meal. read more

My friend and I caught up over dinner and received great service while never feeling rushed. I started out with the refreshing Wilde Irish Ginger cocktail which paired well with my food. If you're a fan of mushrooms you have to order the Mushroom Trip. They're served in a porcini shiitake butter that just made them so rich and tasty and almost gave them a meaty quality. I also enjoyed the Spicy Wagyu Dumplings which were packed with flavor, but I ate the whole order to myself and would pass on this unless I was sharing it next time because it got to be heavy. The rolls don't come cheap. We're talking almost $30 for a special roll. But I went for it anyway and ordered the Rick James and let me tell you, it was worth it. It's made with crispy halibut (I was enticed by it being crispy), spicy tuna, avocado and yellowtail and topped with lemon aoli, sriracha, spicy eel sauce and serrano chili. I enjoyed the combination of fish and sauces and would 100% order this again. We ended our meal with the Orange Ricotta Donut Holes which were served piping hot and nice and pillowy in the middle. Wow, what a treat it was to have takeout from this place! My friends who live out here rave about this place so we had to try it. The sushi is pricy but when you see and taste it, you will understand why. For example, we got a simple California roll, which almost anywhere else will be imitation crab, but here it is real crab meat. The delivery boxes that these came in are beautiful, I kept one! My only complaint was that we didn't get any wasabi or ginger, but after a couple bites, we didn't miss it.
