We had beautiful omelettes with bacon and sausage and cheese à la carte! No need to buy a whole meal if you are keto! No changing table but the bathrooms are accessible! The incredible service and experience provided by Darnell and the chef at the Carlisle Waffle House made our trip home from Ohio to New Jersey over Memorial Day weekend. Darnell was outstanding, friendly, attentive and with food suggestions that were awesome -- particularly the Pork Chops!! The chef on staff, who unfortunately I did not note her name, was so top notch, too. Everything, including my mother's crispy waffle, and my side of grits, were done just right. All over Pennsylvania you'll find a Waffle House with plenty of parking. The one we visited had the friendliest staff who we found quite accommodating to all our little requests. The line cooks, here, really take their cooking seriously even though this place is basically a Basic Breakfast Stop sans all the cafe lounge bells and whistles which most fast food places are emulating these days. We can say that the waffles here are not the thick Belgium kind you might be more accustomed to. These were thin, crispy, yet fluffy to eat with a variety of toppings and add ons to make it the meal you want. We got cheese, bacon, and grits to accompany their chili waffle plate. Check out the menu. They have two basic restrooms here too. My husband and I have dined at this Waffle House location many times since moving to Mechanicsburg. We usually opt to take the food to go on weekends, as it can get pretty busy with the amount of truck drivers and military families coming from that end of the Pike. I typically go with the All Star Special, specifically scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, and a regular waffle. We have found that the servers are very kind and remember us when we return. I took one point off for the lack of cleanliness, with understanding to the fact the restaurant is heavily frequented. read more

I work in the restaurant industry so I strategically waited to go up to the registry for my to-go order until I saw every table had their plates and waffles. They had just seated a table and gave them their silverware and there was one family waiting. The cooks had a lull and were standing waiting, so that was the perfect time to put my order in. I was going to put my to-go order in and then wait in my car with my dog. The waitress told me "our in-house customers come first we are a long way off from to go's." Uh? No, whoever puts there order in, gets their food cooked first. That's how it works. The entire restaurant has to get their food before taking to go orders?? That is laughably a huge lie. Considering I specifically waited until everyone had their food and the cooks had no orders.... there was no reason for her to turn me down. She just didn't want to deal with a to go. Servers think they won't get tipped. I was going to tip big because I felt bad two servers had called out and they were running around. I drive by this waffle house a couple of times a month on my way South to visit my mother. Not only did she not get my tip and a bad review, but I'm never eating here again. We would give 10 stars. 6 of us came in on 5/21/23 at 1053 am. Fenix greeted us as we filled the seats at the bar. Then we witnessed pure magic. Team work, leadership, friendliness, cleanliness, and the food was delicious. Watching this well oiled machine in action was so impressive. We tried to come into Waffle House Store #1394 (1249 HARRISBURG PIKE, CARLISLE, PA 17013) this morning for breakfast, only to be turned away because we were wearing masks. We were told, "For you, take out only. Get out and call your order in." They don't know our story or reason for wearing masks. Our masks don't hurt them. It's SHAMEFUL and DISRESPECTFUL and DISCRIMINATORY. Our health and our dollar are worth more than Waffle House is worth. Came here at 1 am with nine people knowing that it would be slow to get our food. Man was I surprised. Our server/cook's name was David and he was alone, but somehow this is also one of the fastest experiences I've ever had at waffle house, with elegance and ease David cooked and served our food (which was freaking amazing). Decided to stop by on a Saturday night around 1am and hands down had the best service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. When we walked in it seemed as tho we shouldn't be there but the Manager Ray turned around and greeted us with a good smile and showed us our seats. We have never been to a Waffle House before so we had no clue what to try or get. Ray gave us some of his favorites and talked us up on what all they got. We ordered and chatted with Ray until our food was done which was pretty quick then talked for a good hour afterwards before we headed out. One star feels generous. My experience there was truly horrific. Much to our chagrin, our arrival was met with the odor of rancid oil and a floor in need of cleaning. Our waitress seemed confused with our beyond simple order, begging the question of how she was hired in the first place. How could this visit get any worse? Oh, don't you worry, friend, it did! It's a Waffle House, for starters. If you don't know what that means, it means a throwback to diners of yesteryear where the kitchen and dining room share the same airspace. So you'll walk out smelling like you work in the kitchen. You hear the chefs and waitresses yelling at each other. It's just part of the atmosphere that you either love it or hate it. So with all that said, it's difficult to compare it to say, a Bob Evans or Friendly's or I-Hop. Those places are just at a different level of ambiance. You need to compare a Waffle House to a diner. With that said, this WH sucks due to inconsistency. Came here twice on sequential days, and had two vastly different experiences. If you roll up and you don't see a Triumph Sprint in front, just turn around and drive away. The chef who rides that bike (apparently every day) is freaking awesome. If he could be cloned and work every shift it would be a 5 star place. I had the best Waffle House meal I've ever had when he was cooking on day #2. Otherwise, mediocre at best. Day #1 resulted in a good omelet, but hash-browns that the chef thought smothered & covered = burnt and cold. I should have sent it back, but I knew I'd be back the following day since nothing else was within walking distance of where I was staying. As mentioned in another post, this place is one of the dirtiest Waffle Houses I've been in. I understand the patina of grease on the walls, but this place was just grungy compared to others I'd been in. But, I didn't feel like I needed to show when I left. They were real skinny , over cooked and our waitress served that well past when the cook yelled they were up. They were so cold, that them butter wouldn't even melt on them. Our first experience with Waffle House wasn't half bad! My wife and I tried this location out along the Miracle Mile in Carlisle (off of Exit 52 of I-81) and were overall impressed with the food and service. The standout of our meal was the waffles. As the staple of this chain restaurant, it was obvious why this place has had such a lasting presence in the world of breakfast. They were huge, cooked perfectly, and delicious! My bacon was great (they cooked it crispy for me) and my wife's scrambled eggs were good too. The OJ was decent and as far as chocolate milk goes, it was better than I usually get at break-fast-food/dinners. The flop for us was the hash browns. My wife got them plain and I got them topped with sausage gravy. They didn't taste crispy, but I think that's intentional to the style of Waffle House. The sausage gravy, for the up charge, was not worth it at all. It was bland and disappointing. Cleanliness was above expectations - for a truck stop location, the tables were well maintained and the bathrooms weren't gross at all. This location is NOT good for groups, just because it's rather small inside. Service was pleasant! We were greeted by everyone when we walked in and our server was polite and checked up on us a few times (but not too much). I have many fond memories of Waffle House. In fact, I came here specifically on my trip because we don't have them in California. Unfortunately, what I found here was lackluster food and lackluster service. I got the large hashbrowns all the way, which is usually too much food for a mere mortal to consume. Instead, it looked like a side, not even enough to fill a regular plate. When I told the waitress that large hashbrowns usually are on the big plates and a lot more, she just shrugged. No apology or offer to fix it. Both of the staff out front were surly and openly talking about calling in sick and how they need to find better jobs. At least the service was speedy. I still tipped nicely which I shouldn't have because I felt bad for people. I won't be coming back to this particular location however. read more

My wife in on were visiting friends in PA and hit up a Waffle House on the way home. We do not have Waffle Houses in NY and I've only had it a couple of times on southern vacations. I believe his name was Cassell and while we were there, he was both server, cook & dishwasher, working all by himself. He was polite, friendly and extremely efficient. Was excited to try Waffle House since I've past this many of times heading to Pittsburgh from NJ and never had it. There was a rancid odor upon entering and I along with 2 other patrons behind me were told to seat ourselves. I stepped aside to take a look at the menu since I was getting takeout. After a few mins, I was told "sorry to inconvenience you but we aren't offering takeout, only dine in". That was all, no explanation as to why but I couldn't help but wonder if it was because I had a mask on and/or because I was Black. I looked around at the other patrons and they didn't have masks on nor were they Black. Plus what is the difference in a takeout VS dining in meal besides putting it in a to go container. It would take the same amount of time to make. Meanwhile, the reason why I was getting takeout is bc we were traveling with pets and didn't want to leave them in the car for a prolonged period of time. I have been to a LOT of WH's in my travels and this was by far the cleanest, most efficient and friendliest. Walked in to a number of staffers yelling "Welcome to Waffle House@ ( a la Moe's). The place was jammed so we opted for counter service. The employees looked spotless, the counter could be eaten off of and the whole place seemed HAPPY. Big stretch from what I have seen at some - a place you go for dirt cheap food with low expectations. Stephen, our server, was polite, friendly, took our order quickly snd was super attentive. Food was lightning fast and looked and tasted awesome. Every WH manager should come here and see how they run this place. ***Add'l note: found out Stephen was the manager because when we told him how great everything was he went and personally thanked all his crew.
