For starters, we love waffle House. Been coming here since I was a teenager. Everything is always consistent and we love that. Our server was Daniel tonight. Very upbeat and had us laughing the entire time. But, the cook. Idk if he was mad about having to cook or what the problem was but every time he had to get food from the fridge, he would slam it as hard as possible. I know this isn't normal by the reaction from Daniel and the girl that was working. I don't know if you guys know this but attitude soills over into the food. The presentation was sloppy and it looks as if at any moment he would snap. Made for a very uncomfortable experience. I could tell that our server was trying to compensate and redirect our disapproving looks back to smiles. He did great, but I'll be calling up there before our next visit to make sure he will not be cooking. I forgot to ask his name, so we may just have to take our chances. I ordered the All-Star Special with sausage, eggs scrambled dry, biscuit, hash browns, waffle with pecans and coffee. The coffee was cold before I could get creamer. My plate came out with scrambled eggs that were not dry and hash browns. Nothing else! Then 6-7 minutes later I was gifted with my biscuit, no butter though. At this point I had to ask for my sausage. By the time I got it the eggs were completely cold. I sent it all back and looked forward to my waffle that tasted fine but didn't have pecans. They did my husband and son's meals correctly, it was just mine that was a mess. The manager was rude and cut me off trying to explain. Cheep breakfast place, been in the neighborhood for years, I never really tried it. Being that it was a familiar place, I never thought about it, but when my husband saw it for the first time, he has been curious ever since. So this trip we decided to try it, and we ended up going back a few more times, all for breakfast. It turns out that its really not that bad, it's standard breakfast food, with the price really decent. I have not had grits in a while so when I saw this as a side with scrabbled eggs, hash browns, bacon and sage. I jumped at it. They even put cheese in my eggs, which I didn't expect. When we walked in, we didn't feel welcomed, as it looked like a very cozy, tight crowd, it's really very small with counter seating and just a few booths. The wait staff looked at us like we didn't belong, even the regulars gave us the "eye" when we sat down. But by our third visit, we were starting to fit in, we were given a copy of the Waffle House coffee news put out by one of the regulars! I guess if we lived near a Waffle House, we'd go regularly for late night or early morning food, when you just gotta stuff your face and don't have a lot of cash to blow. I've been to this location 50 times. I never had a complaint before. This morning was the worst. Short line of people and 3 booths needed cleaned. Stood there 5 minutes waiting for a booth. As they are small, we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; however, Marcia who is the greeter/busser/hostess was amazing and kept us entertained and in good conversation while we waited. First great place to have breakfast. The waitress/server was great. Filled up our drinks and welcomed me to Texas. The environment was not at all bad. The food was really good, border line great. Biscuits and gravy were on hit! Gravy was thick, not runny. Biscuits were very fresh. The hashbrowns were a little buttery for my taste, but hey if that's how Texas does it, than cool! Love this place. It's cozy and after visiting so often the third shift knows my name and brings me a coffee (with unlimited refills) as soon as I walk in. The food is good, it's cheap, and it's available 24/7. As a smoker, I have to admit that the smoking section is a plus in my book, but I understand that not everybody sees it that way, so know that it does smell like smoke. This isn't a 5 star restaurant, and it takes a few trips to really appreciate the diner environment, but it's my standby, and I'm proud that I was a regular even before yelp made it official. read more
