For the most time, there is always something wrong: no cheese on things when you asked for it, grits instead of hasbrowns/vice versa, wrong type of bread, et cetera. They will not answer the phone, so even if you even if you do get a manager, let me tell you that getting any service recovery for a messed up order probably won't work because the manager either acts like fixing what they messed up comes out of her pocket, or they just don't follow through. People, this is Waffle House. This stuff should not only be so hard, but there are literally several other Waffle Houses within single digit miles. Do not go to this one. We've been to this location a few times and had an ok experience with a server we're familiar seeing and he does a great job all around, I'm not sure of his name. It sucks that this location is pretty crappy, because it's new and everybody was excited when we discovered it being built. We thought, "we finally have a Waffle House on Redan!". This time though, between 3:30PM-4:00PM today, we stopped in for a quick late lunch before work. My boyfriend ordered the hash brown bowl, double sausage, double eggs, coffee, and water. I ordered the two egg breakfast, eggs scrambled, raisin toast, grits with extra cheese, sausage AND bacon, coffee, and water. The food took no time, great, right? Nope. So we're eating, talking, minding our business when my boyfriend tells me there was something in his food. Initially, he thought these little pieces were burnt bits of sausage, but then he started to realize after eating a quarter of it that these bits tasted like soap or chemicals. We finally let the waitress know about what happened and she responds asking him why he didn't say anything earlier, saying that there's no manager available, she'd have to call him, and the only thing they can do is remake the order. We hadn't even paid yet, so I was confused as to why she couldn't just charge us for the one meal that wasn't tainted. It was almost like they didn't believe us, saying, " we don't know what that could be, we don't have anything back here that looks like that". By this point I'm becoming irritated, because I've been working in the restaurant, customer service industry for 8 years and I've dealt with situations like this and people who actually do purposely give staff a hard time. In these situations you try to accommodate, who the hell wants soap or cleaning particles/chemicals in their food? Why is there no manager on duty? Is anybody on this shift serv safe certified (it's not a difficult test and it's mandatory by the health dept.)? There should always be at least one lead on every shift who is certified. We could've been outlandish and made a scene, walked out without paying, etc. We were told to come back the next day and talk to the manager AFTER we paid for some B.S. poison, with no evidence either, because she threw it away. The only evidence we have of being there is an unitemized reciept, no printed names, no store number, no store phone number, and some illegible chicken scratch. She said she took a photo, by this point I was done with this place for good. We are good tippers (above f*** average), we don't give people a hard time, we're fellow industry professionals, regulars to the Waffle House brand, and we couldn't get a comp for an internal error. That's messed up. The serious matter is the chemicals or cleaning particles in the food man, that's not a simple error, you can make hundreds of people sick or even kill someone depending on how much they ingested. Dine at this location at your own risk, or anywhere for that matter. Attention to detail is vital when you're handling other people's food or drinks. P.S. My boyfriend called and told me he's feeling nauseous and sickly, I'll keep up on the status of what actually happens. This morning upon entering I waited several minutes then had to actually ask 1 of the 7 employees if they were taking orders so I can order my meal. I gave 2 stars because the two previous times I visited, I received good service. When they first opened they had at least 15 people in the work area. It almost looked dangerous but service was prompt and the food was good. I knew that many people was just for show/training purposes and wouldn't last. I tried calling an order around 3am today and didn't get an answer, cool no problem. I went in person, and had to wait 15 mins to even be acknowledged, only to be told to "wait a minute" when I told them this wasn't a pick up. There were only 5 other customers and 3 of them were already eating. There were 3 staff members and the server seemed completely overwhelmed. I walked out after the "wait a minute". Hate to get racial, but why is the customer service so poor for people of color? I don't expect Disney level customer service from Waffle House, but they should at least watch Disney's customer service video for training lol. I deducted stars due to the poor customer service, but the food was good. This restaurant falls in place with the other restaurants that provide AWFUL customer service in the South Dekalb area. I had to wait 10 min just to place my order and the Sales Associate, Eva, was not apologetic about it. Customer Service training is definitely training Eva would benefit from.
