The 2nd Waffle House I've ever been in that were doing to-go only -- no dine-in service even though there were two employees on-duty and no other customers there at 6:00am on 3/7/2023. The first time was in Statesboro GA 9/21/2022 and now this one. I've been to a Waffle House w/ one person working and she was taking care of 5 tables all by herself. She was getting it done despite the no-show staff that left her running it all alone in Springfield, MO. This is not how the Waffle House brand runs. On my travels, I've stopped at many Waffle Houses located near highway exits, which is very popular with the truckers and offers good honest delicious food at very reasonable prices. The Chopped Steak Dinner ($6.99) served with a garden salad, hash browns & Texas toast is pretty darn good! However this Waffle House location seems more like a neighborhood diner, lacking the parking accommodations for big rigs here. There are laminated menu placemats at each seat. Recently, I had a delicious breakfast and quick and friendly service with many refills offered on fresh hot coffee. The coffee beans are freshly ground and brewed. I had the tasty Bacon Egg & Cheese Wrap Combo ($3.99) served with hash browns & hot coffee and Buttermilk Waffles ($2.85 each). Staff was really nice. I sat at the bar since I was alone. The only off putting things was my server was on the phone on speaker with her daughter. Just go in the back if you have to. And there was another woman coughing for 10 minutes straight on one side of the place. And an elderly woman coughing two booths away. With everything going on right now it caused my anxiety to peak. I got the all star special which is my normal go to. And the chef cooked my bacon to almost burnt perfection. That way there's no bubbles or extra grease. Coffee was good, but as I was finishing the cup, I noticed some kind of dried on food particle in the cup and stopped drinking it. Restroom was clean and there's also a double parking lot for this location too. Eggs and grits were great. Coming here is what I imagine transporting to an isolated cultural zone on another planet would be. From the camouflage Waffle House hat on the waiter, the incredibly strong southern accents, and the country music blasting over the speaker complete with "Yee Haw!" yells at appropriate points in the songs, I felt like I had left my home behind and transported to another galaxy. I checked outside to ensure my car was still there so I could escape quickly if necessary. Luckily the aliens inside were not aggressive. Well this is just a typical late-night, cheap, greasy, kind of ghetto food. But we all knew that coming in. The staff at this location is SUPER nice. They were so awesome. The chef made us a fresh batch of the sausage gravy. The place was a little sketch and honestly I was kind of nervous, but we made it out alright. The food is just typical late night breakfast food. I ordered the hashbrowns with chili, cheese, and onions. I also got a chocolate chip waffle. Can't go to waffle house without getting a waffle. The hashbrowns were delicious. Freshly prepared and had that nice crunch that I personally love. The chili had quite a bit of meat to it, which was awesome. The waffle was just well, a waffle. Nothing too special about it. Example of awesome staff - * One time I walked in at 2 am and yelled out to everyone inside, "I have a waffle house virgin people, let's make her feel welcome." The staff promptly joined in an appropriately embarrassing manner of virgin jokes, so perfectly executed you would have thought it was all staged. Absolutely love it. On to this particular location - I work out in the community, so I have stopped by here several times for a late breakfast. If you have been to a Waffle House before then this is your run of the mill Waffle House (except it's cleaner). Not today - while my food was not properly cooked (a consistent problem with this particular Waffle House), our server was muttering under his breath to the cook and his fellow servers about what a "pain in the ass" I was. I was never rude, in fact, I was courteous and respectful, and took into consideration that it was at the end of his all-night shift, and perhaps he was tired. Bottom line - it's maybe not what you did... But it was HOW YOU MADE ME FEEL - like crap. I thought about not leaving you a 40% tip, but why - that's not me. You got your 40%... Why is it such a big deal when the food's not prepared properly, and you have to make such a big deal out of it? It's simple - I like my waffles "light"... Hey Mike - guess what?! This place is truly made by the excellence of the servers. I went to another location, but this one hits you right in the feels, everyone is so genuine. I had a pecan waffle, eggs, & canadian bacon (they call it City Ham). I really felt like I was at home, how sweet they were with my daughter, too. If I could give this 0 stars I would. We came in around 12pm and the place was pretty busy. We weren't greeted at all so we asked the Togo woman where to sit. She cleared a table for us and said a server would be right over. About 5-10 minutes later a serve came and gave us silverware and would be back to take our orders. Another 10+ minutes go by as we watch her take others orders who came in after us as we still have no drinks. After about 5 more minutes we decided to leave. My eyes and stomach were delighted by the price and deliciousness of the all star special. Just Left this Waffle House due to horrible service. Not only did I receive cold grits I also had a debate with the cook about his cold grits. While I waited for new grits I decided to eat my waffle. In my first bite I felt something crunchy which hurt my tooth. As I spit it out I find glass inside of the waffle. Then I look in my sweet tea to find particles floating in the bottom of my cup. Came in around 7pm on a Saturday night. Not busy at all. We were one of three tables. I was with my kids (both under 5 yrs) and our waitress brought them regular glasses. I didn't specify but I thought it was common sense to bring toddlers cups with lids? I ended up just helping them drink through the meal.
