A whole restaurant centered around the concept of waffles; I was intrigued. I didn't think it was possible to pull off a full menu based off of this concept, but boy was I wrong. WAWN puts out a creative and tasty menu. This is an extremely welcomed addition to the Eagle River neighborhood, and definitely worth a try. We dined here on a Thursday afternoon so we weren't overwhelmed by a crowd, but the place was decently busy for that time of day. It's a very small restaurant so there is limited seating, and even at the time we dined there were not many tables available. The service was quick and efficient. I could see how other guests complaints may be valid as there is room for improvement. There wasn't really any follow up to see how our meal was going, and when we needed and extra plate/hot sauce we had to flag the server down. I don't think this is intentional though just probably a lack of experience. Luckily the essentials like napkins, cutlery, syrup, salt, pepper, butter & cream are already on the table. The ambiance is a diner like atmosphere, and the interior is a bit tired. They did have a lot of cool art work hanging for sale. Don't worry about it though, the food is certainly worth the visit making up for the lack of ambiance. We ordered the biscuits & gravy and full order of chicken & waffles. The biscuits & gravy is actually waffles & gravy and it was absolutely delicious. The savory waffles were crispy and had great flavor. The gravy was excellent. There were chunks of pork and reindeer sausage. A lot of times breakfast places makes a gravy that lacks any presence of meat. WAWN did not disappoint In this department. It was well seasoned with just the right amount of kick to it. It was lick the plate tasty. I highly recommend this dish The chicken & waffles has a different spin to it. It's served with a regular waffle, not a savory one. We were asked if we wanted whipped cream & chocolate drizzle on the waffles, which we politely declined as that's a bit of a strange flavor combo with chicken. An addition of some type of sauce or aioli to this dish would be welcomed and add to the flavors. The chicken was delicious and flavorful. It was well seasoned, crispy, not greasy at all, and you could taste the spice blend. These were some excellent chicken tenders! The waffle was crispy and tasty too, but that chicken was the star of the show. I think WAWN puts out a really unique, high quality breakfast/brunch. This restaurant concept is one of a kind, and they do it very well. The menu is extensive, and they are able to cater to many dietary restrictions/needs. Short version: Good food, good portion! I'm not a breakfast person but came by since I've heard great things about this food truck turned restaurant (same plaza when you see the food truck). I saw this spot on DDD from a few years back. When I saw the waffle sandwich I knew that I must try it! I made the trip from Washington State up to Anchorage and I must say it was worth it! I ordered the BYAB Daddy. The waffles were light and perfectly sweetened. The chicken was crispy and juicy. I even bought the waffle mix to take back home. Was greeted into a very open and welcoming restaurant with a unique experience. Red picnic tables out in a backyard feel and the scent of delicious fried chicken and waffles fill the room. Walked to the counter overwhelmed by the options and honestly wanted to order everything, the gentleman said they chose what we eat if it's our first time-which it was- and if we didn't like it after two bites to let them know and they'll make it right. The aesthetics of this place made me like it right off the the bat. I ordered: EGG CHEESE/ VEGETARIAN SAUSAGE: This was soooo cheesy but not overly cheesy so it was perfect. Our first time visiting was when they had a sit in restaurant in Eagle River. One Sunday we planned on stopping by and it was closed! I started to follow them on Facebook and they have now relocated to NorthEast Anchorage off of Muldoon! I honestly haven't had a bad plate from here. Veteran/family owned, I love to support locally owned establishments. My favorite dish so far has been their garlic Mac and cheese with chicken strips. It was creamy, melty, flavorful, seasoned correctly? What more could you ask for. I also love their sweet waffles (cookie butter and Nutella please!). Finally had a chance to try this place. Someone picked up for me, so can't comment on ambience, but food was delicious. I had the 'Crazy Auntie.' Picture a waffle with fried chicken and macaroni and cheese and then another waffle on top with a spicy bbq sauce. Yes - the Mac and cheese we IN the sandwich! Delicious. Portions are large. Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 - # 70/100 Their food truck was at the Japanese Summer Festival 2017 at UAA (University of Alaska Anchorage). The big boy wolfed down the waffles and wings, I didn't even get to take a picture. So I ordered bananas with Nutella and dolce de leche waffles. Both were good although nothing really stood out to me. I was expecting the dolce de leche to be the better choice but when it came out, the sauce was too runny it tasted more like condensed milk. I also didn't like that it was topped with strawberries and drizzled with chocolate. Mind you I love chocolate so I know that, that was all I would taste. I like strawberries too but this pairing didn't do it for me, imho. Then again it just might be my own personal taste. We tried Waffles & Whatnot for the first time. The food is pretty good here, partner had a carnivore omelet and I had the veggie scramble, both were smaller potions than we were expecting for the $, but not too bad. What you may want to consider when coming here is there is a single line at the order window, and the only menu to order from is above the window, that requires a quick look to make your selection. It was a busy Saturday morning and our food was ready pretty quickly. Painted picnic tables, paper plates and plastic cutlery makes it easy cleanup tossing it all in the trash on your way out. I would like to suggest to them 1/2 sheet of paper menus as hand outs for patrons in line and to take with them. There is a menu on line as well, we did not know of until we sat down and a placard had it for us to scan. We can now say "we tried it". read more
