On the way home from our vacation, we were hungry & just looked up restaurants in Needles. We came across Wagon Wheel Restaurant. My family & I were pleasantly surprised by how tasty everyone's meal was! We had the Meatloaf dinner, Pot Roast Sandwich, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Burger & Ground Beef Steak. Fresh ingredients, tasty sauces, cooked perfectly. Our waitress was super friendly & informative. The ambiance was welcoming. There's even a small gift shop before you get to the main restaurant. Stopped here on our trip from California back home to arkansas Serena was our server and she was great. Arrived at 11:15 and it was seat yourself... by noon there was a waitlist. Hubby had the meatloaf skillet and i had the pot roast skillet. Both were excellent but i think mine was the best... he thought his was! Good parking... easy freeway access. We loved it. Absolutely love this place!!! Needles just happens to be a convenient place for me to stay when visiting family in Arizona, certainly didn't expect to find some of the best pie I've ever had! I was staying at a budget hotel up the street from the Wagon Wheel, the front desk guy told me the restaurant was dog friendly so I decided to give it a shot. I was hesitant about just strolling in with my dog, so I carried him as to not be disrespectful, I was immediately greeted by a server telling me that I could grab a booth and that my dog was welcome to eat with me. Love that!!! I wasn't terribly hungry so I just got a salad and fries, they had stellar Ranch dressing, what I really wanted was dessert. My lovely server told me they had homemade cherry pie, it sounded great but I was skeptical. I work in the service industry, I know firsthand that restaurants can be liberal with terms like "homemade" or "organic", but I gave it a shot....it was AMAZING!!! Definitely homemade, it was so good that I hadn't stopped thinking about it, when I visited the area again, I had to go back. I had the same awesome server that greeted me with recognition and warmth, this time they had cherry cobbler...dear Lord, it was crazy good!!! I stuffed myself and as I'm writing this review I'm wishing had taken some to go. #drool The only bad thing about this place is that it's in Needles and I'm in LA. On the way to Sedona, AZ from San Jose, CA we found this gem. I posted pictures with captions. Hope that helps you a little. In terms of food portions, this is as American as it gets. My kids meals are not much different than most adult meals. The cowboy omelette we ordered was amazing. However they did forget something we were looking forward to which is the Serrano chili. It's a great compliment to the dish if you're into a little bit of heat. My wife and I split the meal which is just right because the kids always have leftovers. If they didn't forget the bacon and Serrano chili this would've been a 5 star experience. Entire meal was $35 with tip. Great value too. read more

This place was PACKED!! we called in our order as they were no longer doing outdoor service and we didn't want to sit inside(masks seemed to be optional) and we still had about a 30 min wait for burgers and pie. The burgers were OK- we had the basic(I think it was called the scout) and also one that had cheese and bacon . To be honest, I think In-N-Out has a better burger, but this one wasn't bad. The pie- we had a slice of apple and one of peach- was delicious! Really liked the crust! It would have been perfect served a la mode, but we got it to go, so didn't think to do that! read more

Driven by this place a thousand times, after consulting in a friend with a vaca place in Needles, we decided to try it. It was Saturday morning around 830, p lot was 3/4 full, we walked in and per the sign sat ourselves. We were promptly greeted by our server, nice, polite young man, super friendly. Place was 60% full, and they had plenty of young energetic staff working. (this was nice to see, btw) We ordered our coffee, then a few minutes later our food. Both the drinks and food came out swiftly, hot & fresh. Portions were fairly large and the flavor was good. Typical roadside café, maybe a notch or two above what we expected. It was around 50 bucks with a tip. Not low, but it was a nice sit down meal. They serve it fast, I gather its location and customer base appreciate this fact. But zero pressure to eat & leave. I did notice a slight home field advantage for the locals, but hey they might deserve this treatment, they help keep the lights on, right? Service was amazing, whomever hires and manages this place should be proud of this. Looking forward to trying other items on the menu, perhaps lunch or even dinner. read more

Had two great experiences here. One of the servers has celiac so he came out to advise what I could eat that was gluten safe. I had the breakfast omelette with fruit. The omelettes are cooked in a separate pan. The food was great and they allowed dogs inside so we went back for breakfast the next day. The staff remembered us and that I had celiac. I had the chicken fajitas which they didn't use their seasoning on, they replaced it with salt and pepper and it was delicious. Rice and beans with chips and salsa on the side. Great to eat out with knowledgeable servers and great food! Allowing dogs was a major plus. Wish there were more restaurants like this around! Cute little gift shop too. read more

This is a roadside diner with a lot of nostalgia pieces related to Route 66. The zucchini fritters were some of the best I've ever had, big pieces, lightly breaded and fried to a golden crisp, served with ranch dressing. Hubs loved his chicken fried steak and I had the chicken salad with a very chunky blue cheese dressing. Iced teas were very large and service was prompt. Ordered breakfast and dinner to go. At first sight of advertisement off the freeway you would think just another "get off the freeway and get a quick meal" and if you think that way, then just go to McDonald's or Jack in the Box. But no, I had to spend the night in Needles and I wanted to give Wagon Wheel a try for dinner take out. I looked at the menu and pictures on yelp and wow, it looks as if whatever you want, they will custom make it for you. But I wanted to go by pictures and I saw the meatloaf sandwich looked good and my wife was surprised to see they had albacore tuna melt. So that's what we ordered. I had to use Google to find the Restaurant and found a bright yellow building with loads of parking plus parking for semis and trailers and cars with travel trailers. I was amazed that there was only 1 Cook and one waitress doing all the orders. When I paid my bill I noticed someone on my left sitting down, he started to wave and I started to talk but found he was one of the locals, ha, caught me by surprise, his name is Pappy. Ok, the service was fast and the cooking was fast, at first thought I was thinking quantity not quality... wrong.. the meals were excellent, the experience was excellent with great customer service. My vacation completed with this restaurant being the best visit of all eateries. So if passing by, you truly need to stop by. read more

They always seat us at the first table on the left which is so noisy we can't hear each other talk because it's next to the kitchen and the servers are yelling out gossip about their weekends. I ordered the sweet potato fries for $5.99. It was a tiny portion and they were so overcooked they were a nasty brown color and no longer tasted even remotely like sweet potatoes. For a place in the middle of nowhere, this is on our list to stop for a meal. The moving mannequin at the entrance is startling, no matter how many times I've passed him. Our first time (we've been twice so far) made our whole trip! We happened upon all-you-can-eat fish and chips night. Their battered Alaskan cod was juicy and thick, worth the extra calories of fried goodness. I'd like their tartar sauce recipe (or know what bottle it came out of) - it's zippy! The server was friendly and eager to help. The decor will keep you busy just looking around while waiting for the food to arrive, which is faster than we expected. Don't let the exterior fool you because inside is air conditioned and cozy for a break in your travels. PS to the ladies, use the restroom near the entrance instead of at the back of the restaurant if you want to use the sink in private (the back one shares with the dudes). read more
