My family and I have been coming to wahoos since they first opened! The regular Baja rolls are my absolute favorite. So when I came in tonight and they were sold out I was so bummed but understood, #1. They are freaking amazing! And #2 they were closing in 30 mins. The reason I'm writing this review is not because of the food, even though that's a huge plus, But the service! The GM Eric had such amazing energy and was incredibly helpful to each costumer that I watched him interact while I was there waiting for my food. He worked quickly as well as the coworkers in back creating the amazing food! It truly makes your meal when the costumer service is also outstanding! Thank you Wahoo's for hiring great team members! A restaurant full of stickers and beach like vibe. If you've been to a Wahoos you already know. They have tacos, salads, burritos, plates and combos. It's definitely more of a california style cuisines. It was my first time getting a salad here so I got their signature salad which is the Wahoos salad. It has guacamole, your choice of protein and tortilla strips. I requested my dressing on the side so it didn't get too soggy. The salad tasted good and was pretty good sized as well. Got home- my order was wrong, drove all the way back- spoke to the manager, because it was 15 minutes after closing- they wouldn't fix it. I showed the manager the receipt which was correct and was simply told that was the only mistake they made all day. I had to go get food somewhere else after driving home and driving back. A good option surrounded by a lot of different fast food options! The service was a little slow when we ordered but the food came out pretty quick and everything tasted good. One of the batches of chips that we had ordered were very stale and we brought them back just asking for a new basket of chips. I assumed we had just gotten the older chips and as we did pay for them was hoping to just get switched out and was friendly when I asked. The server that we asked was very rude in response but did grab a new basket of chips for us which were much better and not stale. It was taking so long that the server came to my table to give me an apology and free chips and salsa. We've been looking and trying the local restaurants and have been very lucky at finding good "Grindz" well we were Christmas shopping and drove past this Wahoos Fish Tacos restaurant. I love Wahoos. I told my wife we MUST stop here. I haven't had Wahoos in awhile and that's sounded sooo good. We both had fish tacos, mine were "old school" and hers were the slaw style. I have been going to the #1 store for Wahoo's for decades. this store is located on Placentia ave. in costa mesa and has always been the flag ship location. The new staff that are now taking orders at this store have consistently failed to get the order right. not just for pick ups but also in store orders. i took a client to lunch there the other day and the order was not right. it was not busy so i don't understand how something this simple can get so messed up! Okay so I've been to this location twice and both times Lee has made such a great impression ! He is exactly the type of person you expect to be greeted by at such a dope eating spot. He's super personable , knowledgeable about the menu with great tips on how to spice your meal up, and he's just all around a super pleasant person to speak to when ordering or eating at this location. The sauces create a great combination with heat and coolness. My coworkers and I like to visit when we want to break away from the lunch norm. My single guy coworkers especially enjoy the "scenery". I got the 2 fish taco combo with a drink, rice and beans and chips for $17 with tax?? I tipped $2 too which maybe I should not have but the cashier woman was very friendly and was training another girl. The rice and black beans were kind of cold, nothing special, and they only gave me like 10 chips. I tried the red salsa they provided in the bag and it tasted gross. Luckily I had grabbed other salsas from the stand and those were a bit better. I did like that they had a wide variety of flavored iced teas to choose from (green, black, mango, passion, etc). It seemed to take them like at least 10-15 min to make my food so I felt that wasn't very quick service. They had a girl training and she was kind of awkward and felt the need to review every item in my order while handing it to me (not a huge deal and she was still friendly). I am obsessed with the bonsai burrito from Wahoos. The fusion of Asian flavors from the teriyaki grilled veggies with the Mexican spiced rice and beans is such an excellent combo. I have been here so many times and always get the same thing, grilled fish, brown rice, black beans and a side of their super tasty cilantro dressing, too good. Portions are pretty small which always tempts me to order two burritos, but its a nice change to not leave lunch super full and feeling weighed down the rest of the day. So I have passed by this place many times. My son has been asking for the longest time to go here. So today we finally decided to take the chance. Ordered the Paleo bowl with spicy fish and carne asada and the citrus slaw. It looked good on the picture but did not look like the picture. Reminded me of when I try and make Chinese with my Wok and the veggies look all over cooked and brown. The carne asada was not what I would consider carne asada... cooked over a grill but instead I think it was just cooked on a pan. To me it lacked much of the flame broiled flavor and color. The spicy fish was very dry. However, the citrus slaw actually was tasty. The veggies were browned due to the over cooking. The place seemed clean and the service was good. However now I know I will need to get my fish elsewhere. read more
