I have been going to the #1 store for Wahoo's for decades. this store is located on Placentia ave. in costa mesa and has always been the flag ship location. The new staff that are now taking orders at this store have consistently failed to get the order right. not just for pick ups but also in store orders. i took a client to lunch there the other day and the order was not right. it was not busy so i don't understand how something this simple can get so messed up! So I have passed by this place many times. My son has been asking for the longest time to go here. So today we finally decided to take the chance. Ordered the Paleo bowl with spicy fish and carne asada and the citrus slaw. It looked good on the picture but did not look like the picture. Reminded me of when I try and make Chinese with my Wok and the veggies look all over cooked and brown. The carne asada was not what I would consider carne asada... cooked over a grill but instead I think it was just cooked on a pan. To me it lacked much of the flame broiled flavor and color. The spicy fish was very dry. However, the citrus slaw actually was tasty. The veggies were browned due to the over cooking. The place seemed clean and the service was good. However now I know I will need to get my fish elsewhere. read more

The crispy fish tacos were okay, not outstanding but I did not particularly like the sauce they provide with it... I got the 2 fish taco combo with a drink, rice and beans and chips for $17 with tax?? I tipped $2 too which maybe I should not have but the cashier woman was very friendly and was training another girl. The rice and black beans were kind of cold, nothing special, and they only gave me like 10 chips. I tried the red salsa they provided in the bag and it tasted gross. Luckily I had grabbed other salsas from the stand and those were a bit better. I did like that they had a wide variety of flavored iced teas to choose from (green, black, mango, passion, etc). It seemed to take them like at least 10-15 min to make my food so I felt that wasn't very quick service. They had a girl training and she was kind of awkward and felt the need to review every item in my order while handing it to me (not a huge deal and she was still friendly). Visiting SoCal for the week, my older cousin felt it necessary to take us to all the places not available in NorCal - which I think is great. What I like about Wahoo's is it's chill atmosphere - I feel like I walked into a Zumiez or Vans store in here because the place is covered in skater stickers and paraphernalia. The great thing about this place is how there's an upside down bolted to the ceiling drumset of Travis Barker (after all, this restaurant chain is his), which was cool and exciting for my younger cousin who's somewhat of an aspiring drummer himself. The absolute worst place ever!!!! I was running around and just needed to stop and grab a quick bite for lunch. I decide to order their steak taquitos. What they served me looked so gross, but nonetheless I was starving. Take a bite and it was definitely NOT steak. It was mashed up meat of some sort smothered in sauce and the taquitos were literally falling apart because they over-fried the tortillas. The meat was black and my appetite is now gone. I spent almost $10 on trash! I was already out the door and on a tight schedule so I decided to take time after to write this review. What can I say but holy cow is the food fantastic here! It never seizes to disappoint. They have so many amazing options for people especially if you are doing Keto they offer cauliflower rice which is awesome! Never disappoints. For a "faster" casual food and dining, this place hits the spot. Some complaints about wait, but this is not McDonlands as much as it isn't Cheesecake Factory. It's not so fast, but really doesn't take very long. The food is always yummy and the options are always good. I mostly come here for the seafood, so I can't vouch for other protein options. Tried out Wahoo Tacos (with the Wifey) for the 1st time today. First off, I need to mention the customer service we received from Lee, he was very helpful in explaining the menu items. This Cat has Incredible Energy and was very helpful following up to make sure everything was good. Tried different FishTacos and was happy with both selections, the Wifey had a FishTaco and a Carnitas Enchilada, she was pleased with both, (mentioned how tender the Carnitas were). My wife and I have been going to this place ever since it opened. We love the food and healthy choices they have. The service used to be so much better but now, it sucks! I brought my wife here after she got her cast on and thought I'd make dinner easy by having someone else cook. To our surprise we were rudely made aware that they were closing in 10 minutes. The guy seemed pretty mad we were even there. So, we placed our order with Adriana. She was just as rude with me, almost impatient when I was trying to confirm my choice. When we completed our order we decided to wait inside and thought we might just eat inside as it was getting a little chilly outside. While waiting, a customer had walked in and the guy who rudely told us they were closed told the customer who walked in they were closed in the same rude manner. She said she thought they had closed later as she was walking away upset and confused by his behavior. He even yelled at her telling her the hours were on the door. Another customer, possibly a nurse from the Urgent Care next door, walked in and Adriana told her they were closed. My wife was so uncomfortable with these rude employees that we decided to eat on the patio anyway. Just as were were starting to enjoy our food the patio lights were turned off. Meanwhile, I know they saw us out there and didn't even care. Then, the guy was taking the trash out and saw us there. Not once did he apologize for shutting the lights off on us nor did he even offer to turn them on while we finished. This was such a terrible display of customer service it was more like a lack of. Once we finished our food, I decided to do the right thing and throw away our trash. I had to walk to the dumpster in the back (which was grossly overflowing). I did not want to litter and look like a trashy person. My wife was so upset and disappointed that our service was so bad! I would give NO stars but don't have that option. I love Wahoo's. I've been coming to this location since 2006. The people who work there are usually great! Plus the food is always delicious! This is the reason I'm leaving a 3 star instead of a 1 star review... Because Luis could use some lessons in customer service. While I understand many places are understaffed right now, that doesn't give an excuse for attitude and poor customer service. You especially don't blame the customer for this. Wahoos does everything they can to ensure the customer has a good experience. My first time at this location was not good. The staff was rude and didn't look me in the eyes. I felt like an intruder. Corporate made sure they were going to make up for this horrible experience. I have visited the restaurant 2 times to eat since the first incident. The food was never the problem. Unfortunately, it was the staff. The last 2 times I have visited I had nothing but a pleasant experience! The staff was friendly and SINCERE. I sensed a friendly family vibe both times... very refreshing! They talked to me like I was a family member and I appreciated that very much. I like how you order at the cashier and then they bring your food to you at the table. I like how they ask you if they can get you anything else. It's such a good experience when restaurants do that instead of being forced to wander around the dining room looking for the napkins. I like their fish tacos!!! Their sodas are also really good as odd as that might sound. A few other restaurants have been to the soda tastes watered down... it tastes like club soda. NOT HERE. I've been coming to Wahoo's for years and years and to this location for like 15 years. Never had issues until today. I always order the 1988 fish burrito combo plate with sides of black beans and white rice. This time somehow, the rice n beans ended up inside the burrito. No big deal. I ask to correct the order. The girl comes back and says there's nothing they can do. I'm thinking, are you serious? She offers to give me a side of rice n beans which was nice gesture but the point is that if the establishment screws up the order, shouldn't they fix it? Its kinda like you order chips and salsa with your meal and instead of getting it separately, you get it inside the burrito, and they expect you to just eat it since you were gonna eat the chips n salsa with your burrito anyways. read more
