So happy to have the adorable Wake Cup cafe on Haight St. They have a huge menu of drink options, as well as some tasty treats (including vegan options!) The first time I went to Wake Cup was before the pandemic. My partner and I were drawn inside because it just looks like a hella cute shop. Reminds me of something you might find in Tokyo. At the time, the space inside was fairly limited (in terms of seating) though we did manage to grab a spot by the window to enjoy our snacks. We were excited to see they had some vegan options, and a lot of plant-based milk options (including oat!) We enjoyed a small bagel with vegan cream cheese and a really well-done matcha latte. Flash-forward to the present and a lot has changed (obviously). First, they (and us, as customers) have benefited by being able to do some outdoor seating in front. Though it might seem surprising, Haight St gets quite a lot of sun, so on a weekday (when it's not super-crowded) it's nice to take a seat and enjoy the sun with your snacks. More importantly, it seems like Wake Cup's vegan options have grown quite a bit since my first visit. They now have several sandwich options, and they have some pastries too! Pretty recently I enjoyed a vegan banana chocolate bread--so sweet and inexpensive! Pair any of this with a oat milk boba and you'll be having a party. Hope that Wake Cup keeps expanding their vegan options, but either way, I will definitely be making a regular appearance here. read more

Stopped by for breakfast today and got a solid cappuccino as well as a BEC on brioche. It's a pretty close facsimile to the NYC bodega one though I think I'd still prefer a kaiser roll to brioche. But the only place you can get that in SF is Newkirks which is a bit of a trek for me. It's also a little smaller than an NYC/Newkirk's BEC which is not at all a bad thing. I'm a simple boba lover: I see Strawberry Matcha on a menu and I go. This Haight Ashbury coffee shop has an incredible amount of menu options and provided the perfect afternoon pick-me-up after our hike at Sutro. We placed an order at their window and it was ready in about 5 minutes. The matcha strawberry was delicious, but I definitely think there was too much ice (this seems to be so common at coffee shops). The drink was done in a few minutes and I was left wanting more, but it gets my 5 stars for tea quality. It was the perfect blend of matcha and strawberry puree. The wait didn't seem too long and the staff would call orders by name. Wake Cup has the best breakfast sandwich in Upper Haight, hands down. Seriously, I feel so lucky to live as close to it as I do. We started going here shortly before shelter-in-place and quarantine and it has quickly become a staple for us! The staff is very friendly and everything we've tried has tasted amazing. **Their breakfast sandwich has been my favorite thing to order and I cannot get enough of it.** Their drinks are tasty too! We get the breakfast sandwich on a croissant with sausage and make it super (w/ avocado and mushrooms). The croissant is toasted to crispy, flaky perfection. The egg is always in that sweet spot where the white is cooked but the yolk has a glorious pop (napkins required). The mushrooms and spinach are sauteed in a way that adds so much flavor and the melted cheese and avocado just tie everything together. Because the breakfast sandwich is made to order and with care, I would recommend placing an order for one by phone and allowing 10-15 min for it to be ready! You'll be so happy you did, just beware of the gooey yolk explosion which awaits an over-eager bite. :) They have a veggie sausage option as well for vegetarians, though I have not tried it myself! Drinks-wise, my partner loves getting the London fog latte and I like to get an espresso drink sometimes or an iced green tea w/ lychee or jasmine green tea. read more

This sandwich - omg!! I don't even love sandwiches or croissants normally but this is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It's the create your own egg and cheese sandwich and I added the spinach, avocado, and mushrooms option. The croissant was buttery and flaky, there were generous portions of ham and avocado, and the egg had runny yolk. So delicious - a must try. The boba is okay. Not the most amazing thing ever (like the sandwich) but no complaints either. The texture is quite good, not too soft and not too hard. The coffee is a tad on the expensive side but I don't mind since they are a local shop staying open during covid! Bonus: the sticker was super cute. Found this new coffee shop during my break and tried their oolong milk tea with boba with the option of choosing what? Organic Grass-Fed Milk? Of course I tried that! But, a wide selection of other dairy/non-dairy options are also available, just ask the staffs! The staffs were pretty friendly and helpful in helping me choose my drink since I'm indecisive. Because of the great drink and friendly service, I also came back here twice after the first, and tried their Mocha, Strawberry Matcha, and Bacon and Egg Croissant. Mocha was pretty balanced in flavor with high quality chocolate compared to other cafes I've been to. Their strawberry matcha was made with fresh strawberries and high quality matcha. Bacon and egg croissant was made fresh to order and every ingredient was epic(especially the egg), no complaints! All of this would still grant them at worst 4 stars but I dinged them another star for the customer service. I said "thank you, have a good one" & hearing back "yeah ok" left a sour taste in my mouth, especially since I was going out of my way to support local businesses. I recently moved into the neighborhood and Wake Cup is easily my favorite local spot! I've only ever had the chance to order take out due to the pandemic, but the food and drinks have been excellent every single time. They give you a stamp card too and after 10 sandwiches or 10 drinks, you get one on the house. Staff is also very friendly! One of the owners, Terry, recognizes my voice and knows me by name. Which isn't surprising, considering my partner and I order from here at least once a week. Can't wait til indoor dining opens again so we can get a chance to enjoy the space too. We swapped the milk with 100% grass-fed option. I always get Jasmine Green, whole milk, no sugar no ice w/ lychee jelly when I try new places. So, this one is definitely good. A cute little cafe that just opened up on Haight. It replaced another milk tea place that was overpriced and mediocre. I'm sooo happy about the change. The interior is super aesthetic and the staff are attentive and very friendly. When I got to the door the owner was passing out samples of their hojicha milk tea and espresso. I ended up loving the hojicha sample and ordered the exact same drink but with boba. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. I also got a chocolate chip cookie for dessert (vegan). I had a window seat and enjoyed my food while people watching. It was great. I've tried their strawberry matcha and their house milk tea (both delicious) when some friends brought me their drinks but this was my first time going in person. I'm definitely going to be a regular here. So excited to try everything else on the menu! read more
