Tried Waldo's last night and it was good!! I had the medium classic buffalo style wings. They offer for a dollar more to get all drums OR all flats and of course I went with all drums. Very flavorful, not over cooked, and had the perfect amount of heat. Waldo's is a "seat yourself", nothing fancy, laid back establishment that offers up good wings, apps, and beer. The only downfall was the staff was a little off and the attendants at the cash register seemed annoyed and that put a damper on the experience. The waitress wasn't very attentive to our needs (I.e. she had to be flagged down to refill water). Everyone has nights where things aren't going as smoothly, so that could have (hopefully) been the case. I'll definitely be back for another trip because the wings were so good. read more

We started with the Hot Chips and Onion Rings. The hot chips were a combination of crispy and some softer slices and came with a large side of Ranch dressing. We selected the spicy Ranch, their homemade Ranch mixed with wing sauce, to go with the battered, crunchy, wide-cut onion rings. Waldo's has wings (regular and boneless), sandwiches, burgers, hotdogs, and salads. We opted for the 20 piece wing sampler tray with four different flavors, Hot, Extra Hot, Jamaican Jerk, and Mandarin Orange Sesame Ginger. You can get the specialty flavors in any level of heat. The crispy, tender wings arrived coated in sauce with a lake of Blue Cheese dressing and slices of Cheese Bread.The Mandarin Orange Sesame Ginger was sweet with a prominent Asian flair from the sesame and ginger elements of the sauce. There was plenty of extra sauce on the platter in each of the wing sections which was great for dipping. However it was not warmed, so the wings cooled down fast. Both waitresses stopped by throughout the evening to refill our water and see if we needed anything else. When the Hot wings arrived at our table, the spicy aroma made our mouths water. You could see the Hot had loads of black pepper flakes and slices of jalapenos. They made our lips warm and mouths tingle with a slight lingering heat. The Extra Hot came in a spicy paste from the depths of hell that engulfed our mouths in flames. Faces turned red, noses started running; you don't want to forget and accidentally rub your eyes while you are eating these nuclear nibbles. This was where the cooling vat of chunky blue cheese dressing came into play. You can get Ranch but we both prefer blue cheese dressing to accompany our wings. The buttered Texas toast covered in cheese helped tone down the heat when we ate it on its own, but we also used it to soak up even more sauce, rather self-defeating but so tasty. The service here is TERRIBLE! I placed an online curbside order, arrived to pick it up, asked the person who brought the order out if everything was included (only had one bag and I had placed a large order). I drove home 15 min drive only to find out several things were missing. Called the restaurant back to ask about the rest of my order and was hung up on. Called back again only to argue with the person about what was in my order. Finally after several minutes, they admitted that the person who brought my order out didn't bring out the 2nd bag!!! They had the nerve to ask me if I was going to come back up to the restaurant to pick up the 2nd bag with the rest of my order. REALLY? Yeah I paid for it. Waldo's is not a bad little wing joint. The pub chips are 5 stars alone. Perfect balance of crisp. Best pub chips I've had. The wings were about the same as East Coast or BWW. We tried the sampler. The dry rub were ok. Had a hint of brown sugar. BBQ had way too much sauce. The garlic were strong but if you like garlic then you'd be good. My favorite were the gold rush. The sauce was the right amount and the favor was mild enough that it didn't over power the wing. Strangely, I did not see Buffalo on the menu. Could have missed it though. These wings hold up to the 2 AM munchie test. Sure, they are great hot and fresh; but, they are still awesome when you didn't realize you passed out on the couch and wake up shaking a leg because the beer is wanting an escape route and, well, since you're up, you might as well grab a wing or two. We have ate here before and for whatever reason this time was not good! It took a long time for our waitress, drinks and our order. Our waitress was training another girl and was not doing a good job herself so not sure how the trainee will learn from her. There was only a couple tables in the establishment so I'm not sure why everything took as long as it did. We were to the point of getting up and leaving! My co-worker and I go here for lunch about once a week. They have a 6-piece wing special (bone-in or boneless) with a side. I prefer boneless wings with the rub me down dry rub then use the hot sauce they have on the tables for a kick. They have quick and speedy service. Been here twice now for take out. Each time I get the hot buffalo wings with ranch and cheese toast. The ranch is incredible! The hot wings are the perfect level of spice for me. I also like that there is a ton if sauce and jalepeños. The wings are always crispy, which is how I like them. Fiancée got the fried chicken salad and really liked it. it came in a tortilla bowl which I don't think was in the menu description. This is a great place to grab dinner or lunch on good days and bad. The staff are friendly and helpful. I tend to share the Pittsburgh garbage fries and a pitcher with friends. They hype up their wing sauce, but like most North Carolina sauces, its just a bunch of vinegar. Not my favorite. When I was transferred to Oldtown my coworkers quickly introduced me to Waldos. In our little strip mall they offered dogs, burgers, and wings. We always got the dog basket for five bucks. A loaded dog, tons of cut fries and pickles. Always packed at lunchtime the wait was short and the service was quick. Fifteen years later - Waldo's has moved closer to Wake Forest U. Same great food. This time I tried the wings. A little pricey compared to other wing joints in the area but worth the money. Never a fan of celery they waste it on me. Not a great selection like East Coast Wings but they are pretty tasty. Still in the neighborhood. You left one gang area for another. Wake Forest is one of the greatest universities in the US but the location is surrounded by ghetto. Move into the burbs Waldo's and you'll reap the benefits. Stop relying on student cash. read more

Went for our first 69 cent wing night at Waldos. The waitress told us that the special covered any increment we wanted to order after I asked (most places make you order at least 5 in a flavor). When we went to order based on inclement, the waitress told us that we had to choose any of the wing size options on the menu. We chose the sampler 20 wings, four different flavors. Then the bill came. A $30 bill quickly turned into 60. When we asked the waitress about the charges, she said "the sampler isn't a part of the special, I thought you knew". Nice place and service was great. Our server Amy did a great job and kept our drink full. My daughter had grilled buffalo sandwich which was delicious. However, I ordered the wings. The wings came out on a nice tray but the wings were so small. The size remind me of wings from fast pizza places. They used to be a nice size. We've done takeout for wings from Waldo's before, and while the wings are good - they're not as big and juicy as the wings at East Coast Wings. BUT, I digress... the burgers. The burgers were juicy and HUGE. Cooked to perfection. Husby got the waffle fries, and I got the homemade chips. I really wanted to switch sides, cos the waffle fries were so good. I mean, the chips were good (came with ranch dipping sauce), but the waffle fries were WAY better. They were perfectly seasoned, crispy, yet still potato-y and tender on the inside. If you are looking for wings then Waldo's is an excellent choice. They don't offer dozens of gimmicky flavors like East Coast Wings and they don't have the national advertising power of Buffalo Wild Wings but when it comes to getting a big basket of fresh-made wings accompanied by fast, friendly service they definitely deliver. We've been going there for years and have never been let down. In fact, we recently went to Buffalo Wild Wings for a friend's birthday party and were disgusted by the size and relative sliminess of their wings. I guess we've been spoiled :) Bottom line: Waldo's Wings is a REAL local business where REAL people go to eat. Went here with a friend for dinner. Our waiter was okay, he just wasn't attentive and left us waiting several times. I ordered an appetizer of fried zucchini and the ranch had a curly blonde hair in it! My friends hair is red and mine is brown LOL. The waiter brought us more ranch but didn't even offer any type of discount, and i'm sure it was the same batch with the hair in it lol.. Our food came out finally and our fries were cold! We told our waiter and he dropped them again, leaving them crunchy and overcooked!! We finally got our check and asked for them to not charge me for the appetizer.. The manager told me they could only give me a discount and it took a whopping $2 off my total. What a joke! Thank you Waldo's for offering fat free dressings OTHER than Fat Free Ranch and Italian. Contrary to what many restaurants believe not everyone loves Ranch Dressing and do want some flavor to their salad besides an Italian Vinaigrette. The Ginger Sesame was delicious. The service was great as usual and my waitress, Brooklyn, even converted by previously called in order to the typical plate service when I decided to dine in. The variety on the menu is impressive so most everyone can find something to their liking. Have always loved the wings but today did a salad and it lived up to my expectations from Waldo's. By far the worst service in Winston! I showed up to pick up my order and the person at the counter didn't even acknowledge me. The other person that was on the phone attended me once she was off the phone. They gave us the wrong order of wings and the onion rings were downright disappointing. They look great but have NO SEASONING AT ALL. When I called to let them know about the wrong wings and the missing side of ranch (they do charge extra for it too) and they said they would replace it. Then I get a call back from an employee telling me that I need to bring back the wrong wings (after I told them I couldn't go back today to get the new order)!! I have never a manager ask an employee to call a customer and tell them to bring back the wings. No wonder the wings I had were soggy, they are probably reselling the bad food. It's your basic wings establishment, and it's local, which may be a reason for choosing it over a place like Buffalo Wild Wings. I'm admittedly not the biggest wings fan, but they lack the menu options of a more mainstream establishment. Wings were decent and the restaurant was clean. However, the service was awful. I would give our waitress Kristina zero stars. She was rude to host in front customers. Updating with a bad review again :( Last two times the wings and hot chips have come undercooked. More oil than sauce on the wings. At this point, I'm thinking it depends on who is cooking that night, because either my whole order is perfect or my whole order is undercooked. Really disappointed.
