The pharmacy staff, and in particular Sara, went above and beyond her call of duty. I had been literally waiting for over 30 minutes in line for my prescription. When it was my turn and I got up to the counter, I asked for my prescription refill (that I had called in earlier that day). She checked the computer and they had no record of my call but seeing that I had already waited so long and my crestfallen countenance upon hearing that they had no record of my call, she went and filled the prescription herself on the spot....and there were literally 10 people in the queue behind me...Great employee and she deserves a raise. :-) read more

I have received mixed experiences in this location. The ladies at the makeup counter tend to be super positive and helpful which is why I go in. I can order what I need online but I enjoy supporting the people who run brick and mortar store fronts. Today when I checked out, I was received by a girl with major attitude. I waited in line behind an older gentleman. She asked him whether or not he wanted to use his $3 off. He asked her to repeat what she was asking because he didn't understand what that meant in terms of how he achieved the discount. She responded by raising her voice, yelling very loudly, "You save $3! Do you want it or not?!" He apologized for not understanding and said that he would accept it. Next was my turn. I walked through debit/credit card prompts on the screen but wanted to get cash out. I didn't see the option pop up and asked if I could still get cash out. She huffed and said, "you should've known to press that option before hand." I said, "I didn't see it pop up like it usually does. I was waiting on the prompt when it gives you the option to accept the amount or add the cash back option and it didn't come up." She stared back at me and stated that it did and it must've come up and that I obviously wasn't paying close enough attention. I wasn't sure how to respond because I was so taken back by her brazen, rude and sassy attitude that I walked away. I saw that there was an ATM so I got cash out. I was ready to leave when I thought to myself, "no this is ridiculous that this person is treating their clientele like this." I asked her for management and she called someone named Michael over the sound system. Michael never showed up. I walked out of there 15 minutes later, appalled with spending my time and money for that experience. Statistically, people are frequenting brick and mortar store fronts less: retail is down and online shopping is up. Those who continue to shop the store fronts, do so because they're getting something you cannot online: quality Human interaction and personable help. Worst pharmacy ever!! The service here is extremely slow with a complete lack of customer service. I was told my prescription would be ready in 5 minutes- 40 minutes laters I was still waiting and decided to leave out of frustration. Their pharmacy department is the absolute worst. I cannot believe the sheer incompetence and to top it off, they're not even apologetic. Our Covid booster appt was 7pm. They could not even find us. Lucky I took a photo of my confirmation. I also signed up for a flu vaccination. They couldnt find my daughters insurance in the system even though I gave them my card. They said they couldn't call my insurance to verify so they tried to turn me away. The manager tried but could not verify my daughter Then they said they could use a coupon but not for the flu vaccine. I got a hold of my insurance. I had them on the phone and magically my daughters insurance went through on its own. Omg, bullshit. Then the pharmacist escorted us to the room and I asked if I needed to sign any forms. He said I did already...but that wasn't my form!!! Omg, then the forms came. It did not say flu vaccine. I asked why and they said it would cost $40. Fine! I'll pay it. Fricken communicate!!! Distrespectful service: My friends and I run an art camp over the summer, and stopped by to pick up some extra supplies. While buying our supplies, the cashier kept telling us to "hurry up girls" in a condescending way as we had trouble getting our cash together. She kept repeating this as we got progressively more stressed -- my friend even begged "I'm going as fast as I can" as she kept repeating to us to hurry up. Overall, we felt disrespected and stressed. We understand that a long line can be stresseful to a cashier, but the way she handled the situation could be improved. read more

The pharmacy has very poor customer service!!!! They have several pharmacy techs working at the back but only 1 attending to customers who are picking up/dropping off prescriptions. This is despite having a long line during the lunch rush hour or after work!! There were 4 occasions wherein my prescriptions were not ready after ordering 4 hours ahead of time! With the poor customer service I received several times during the week, I decided to pick up my medication on a Saturday at 1:15pm only to find out that they cannot release it because the pharmacist is out to lunch! I understand that it being written as a new prescription I need a consultation with the pharmacist. But I think they need to have a better back up support. I now make an effort to call ahead to find out if my meds are ready for pick up even after ordering them online a day or more ahead. In doing so, I still get a rude pharmacy tech on the phone (her name is Sheila). The corporate management team needs to work on improving the customer service at the Los Altos, CA location. read more

Don't use this store for photo processing!!! I probably should have taken it as a sign when there was literally nobody in the photo department when I went to drop off for development the disposable camera my boyfriend used in Hawaii. But I had them page someone and dropped off the photos. They told me it would be $9.99 for the prints and $2.99 for the CD. When I went back that evening to pick it up they again had to page someone to the photo department since it was deserted, and then they told me it was $15-something. I said that sounded a little high and could they tell me the pre-tax price? The guy kept insisting it was $15 before tax (no, then it would be $16-something with 10% tax...), but then finally told me it was $13.85 pre-tax. I said that I had been told it would be $12.98 pre-tax. It's 87 cents, so obviously not a HUGE deal, but I wanted to know why there was a difference in price. The first guy I talked to was extremely insistent that $9.99 + $2.99 was $13.85. Big endorsement for the California public school system right there. Finally, someone else came over and explained that I had 27 prints instead of the standard 24, so they charged a bit extra - fine, thank you, that's all I wanted to know! I'm not sure why it took 20 minutes. I got home and looked at the prints and the CD and discovered that they failed to print 5 of my photos! They were all there on CD, but had only given me 22 prints. This was especially annoying, because they charged me extra for having more than 24 prints, when in fact they gave me 22. So I called them this morning and spoke to a very sweet woman who barely spoke a word of English. I explained that I had only received 22 of the 27 prints for which I had paid, and could I please have my card refunded without having to come into the store, since its rather out of the way for me. She was very nice, but kept repeating over and over again that yes, I could come into the store and they would give me the extra prints. I thought I was finally making headway when she asked for my phone number so she could look up the order (she couldn't even understand my phone number no matter how slowly I said it so I eventually had to tell her the numbers in Spanish), but after she pulled up my order she said "Yes I see the order... ok you can come into the store and we'll give you the prints!!" My Spanish isn't good enough to explain that I didn't want to come to the store, so I gave up and got put on hold for the manager. I FINALLY got connected to her manager and after going through the whole story over again managed to get a the money refunded to my card (in theory, although I wouldn't be surprised if they actually end up charging my card again, they seemed so incompetent). There was so much drama & time spent just trying to get a single roll of film developed at the right price - I would never use this place again. Like others have said, the pharmacy is atrocious. Sangita was "assisting" me as well as a new guy. They were extremely slow, ignorant and rude (and not just myself but also my insurance rep I had on the phone). Sangita told me that there was an issue with them billing my insurance and it would take a few hours to process. After calling my insurance, they said they've had no issues and received my request for other medications I made with another pharmacy earlier that day. After explaining this to Sangita, she continued to claim it was my insurance who was having issues until I handed my phone to Sangita to hear from the representative. Not only did she lie about her name to the representative, she continued to claim the error was not Walgreens fault. I never card who's fault it was, all I wanted was my prescription. Today is my first and last time I'll be getting my medications from Walgreens. And in cases like today where it was urgent, I'd rather skip it and take the risks than deal with Sangita and the staff here. read more

Seconding the motion to not use this store for photo processing. If they treat customers in the rest of the store as they did in the photo dept., then don't use this store at all. The guy in the photo department said I could have my order in an hour. It was 2 CD's containing 600 photos total, so I thought that optimistic. I returned in an hour and found some of my photos in the processing machine's slots and some were spread around a cabinet. There seemed to be more photos than I expected. I was told to return in another hour. When I came back, I was told one of the orders was done (photos still spread around the department), but that they were having trouble with the second order. I got the one order , took it home and had to spend hours trying to figure out if I received the 97 photos I'd ordered. There were 3 copies of each of the index sheets, 6 copies of some photos, 3 of most and one of a few . Today when I told the manager of this problem, he told me I had made the mistake of ordering too many. He refused to acknowledge that his employee could have made the error even when I explained that the second order was too much for the employee to manage. He was able to admit the machine had made an error on the second (again up to 6 copies of some and missing others) and was going to shred all the photos and make me start over. I ended up paying about $25 for the one copy of the CD and the 33 prints that I'd ordered (plus a huge pile of unordered discards and unedited copies of photos that I had edited!) on this second order. The manager wouldn't listen to me, had fast answers, had conflicting information and had employees who seemed oblivious of the need for keeping fingers off the front of photos. i won't be going back. And I'm not sure that I would ever use any of the other departments of the store (including pharmacy) if in any way this manager has any oversight of the other departments. I never use Yelp for bad reviews, but this one is for John at the Pharmacy, who is the most unprofessional pharmacist I've ever come across. I've been a customer of his and the pharmacy for the last 4 years and have been met with rudeness, extreme laziness, and absolute incompetence almost every time I visit. It is honestly like pulling teeth every time I want to get my medication, often times it takes several phone calls, visits, and days before I can get my medication. A very typical experience of the inconveniences of this pharmacy happened last time I needed medication, when the pharmacy let me know my prescription was ready. When I arrived to pick it up, they let me know they only had 5 of my 30 pills on hand and charged me over 50% of the cost of the entire 30 pills for just those 5. Two separate people behind me in line came to the front and told the pharmacists directly on my behalf that it is not customary for Walgreens to charge patients like that and that they always get the pills for free when the pharmacy doesn't have the full prescription, and only make payment upon receiving the entire prescription amount. The pharmacists refused, and I had to pay $21 for 5 pills, and then return a few days later to pay $19 for the other 25. That was the final straw and I finally decided to switch to a different pharmacy. When I kindly asked John this morning to please send the fax of my medications over to the new pharmacy as soon as possible so they could order my prescriptions, he told me "you're moving business so you're not a priority." I told him that by waiting on sending the fax, he is messing with my health (I have an autoimmune disease and need my medication) as my new pharmacy would need to order the pills today in order to receive them by tomorrow, but he certainly did not care. I told him I would have to write a review on Yelp and he said if I did he would hire a lawyer and sue me. Not sure on what basis, but good luck with that! Hours later and two calls from my new pharmacy to John, and my new pharmacy is still waiting on the fax. This is the type of people you will get when you go to Walgreens and what I've dealt with for the past 4 years. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere, your health is a priority and I would not trust this pharmacy. I am confident this is the worst pharmacy in terms of service in Northern California and I wish I had moved years ago. read more

My doctor prescribed 10 nitroglycerin tablets. When I went to the pharmacy, I was told I had to wait, even though the Rx had been phoned in several days earlier. After 15-20 minutes, they supplied the medicine. When I got home, I discovered they had given me 100 tablets, instead of 10, and charged me $50. I called the doctor's office, and the nurse confirmed that the Rx was for 10 tablets. But when I returned to Walgreen's, they explained that the medicine came in units of 100, that they could not break up a unit, and they had called the doctor to get permission to provide me with 100. They had not explained any of this to me at the earlier time. They refused to take the medicine back or give me a refund. I checked online, and found that Drugs.com could have given me a coupon to purchase the 100 tablets for only $25. This was the last straw, as Walgreen's pharmacy always has a long line, and makes many patients wait a long time. I have now switched to CVS pharmacy. read more

Good store, staff is freaky but cool, always open!

I've been to this Walgreen's several times for it's pharmacy, and because it is convenient, since I live nearby. On this account, I had a long list of items to pick up. Not wanting to spend forever and a day looking for something, I thought I would seek help, but without my asking, one of the staff asked if I needed help to find something. She brought me to some of the things I needed, and was so kind, and pleasant about it. She really seemed happy to help. After a few items, I let her get back to work and went from there. After a browsing for a while, I approached another employee to find another item which proved to be quite helpful because I never would've found it. At the check out, there was one person before me who was purchasing her items. The first employee, who had helped me earlier, was now the cashier for this customer. I noticed she was just as courteous as she was with me, answering the customer's questions about a discount she wanted to get. The customer seemed impatient, started making comments about how rude another cashier was. The cashier gave a neutral response, after which the woman proceeded to aim her attitude at the cashier. The way the cashier handled it was amazing to see, responding with much tact and reserve, very wise responses to everything this woman said, that the woman pretty much could not argue and simmered down. I surely would not have had that much patience in the cashier's position. This is coming from someone who used to work in retail. This made me think, some people act so entitled as customers. They can be so demanding and rude, treat workers as servants and belittle them. They don't need that. I see these folks working hard already. So with that, I give 5-stars for the employees who deal with a range of customers like me and that very rude customer. read more

I'm rating this Walgreens primarily for it's pharmacy, where the pharmacists are incredibly friendly and have taken the time to get to know me--they're great! On the other hand, the employees in the rest of the store seem to be very antisocial and don't enjoy interacting with customers. While this can create a terrible experience for a customer shopping, I have been there so many times that it's kind of entertaining dealing with the employees here. read more

Walgreens Los Altos is where my family goes for prescription needs. Geoff Ngo, pharmacist and his staff often goes out of their way to fulfill our prescription issues. One time we showed up to pick up a prescription on a Sunday afternoon (on our way to the airport) when it just closed. We were frantic because the prescription was important to have on our trip. Geoff saw us on his way out and turned around to open up the pharmacy to get what we needed. We are so grateful for his exceptional customer service. read more

I had the absolute worst service from the pharmacy this past week. I went to pick up medication for my mom on a Friday--Walgreens said they had no order. I called the nurse the following Tuesday who had had proof of a faxed order which she resent on Tuesday, then she called five times to verify their receipt of the FAX. She kept getting put on hold, even asking to talk to the store manager, who also did not pick up the phone. The nurse called me with the news and the assurance that the FAX was received on the Walgreens end, and that she could spend no more time on hold trying to speak to someone. And guess what? No medication was ready for me last night! I had to call back the nurse this morning who finally resolved the issue. I am switching to Los Altos Pharmacy. read more

What terrible service at this pharmacy. I repeatedly tried to have a prescription filled. I left two messages for the pharmacy to find out if this had happened. I finally received a call back. The pharmacist said that the prescription was filled a month ago and I should have received an automated call letting me know that it was ready; I did not. I had been using this Walgreens for the last 5 years and found the service to be adequate but as of today I am taking my business elsewhere. I went in to buy diapers and the store was out of the size I needed. I asked the clerk who was working the front register to please help me order the right size. She said that I would need a manager so I asked for the manager and she told me that I needed to walk through the store to find one. I was in a rush as most mothers are and asked her to call the manager. She refused, again telling me to walk back and find the manager. Meanwhile she rang up the diapers of the wrong size. I asked to return them and was told again that I needed a manager and that I needed to walk back to find one because she could not call one. Needless to say, it was an unpleasant, frustrating experience and I am frankly shocked at the poor service. I have changed all my prescriptions to CVS. When I got to CVS I asked to speak to a manager (again to order the right diapers) and the clerk called one up to the front register--nothing doing! read more

Their pharmacy takes random lunch breaks during weekends. The breaks are not announced on the web -- the information online is that this pharmacy is open from 10 am to 6 pm. I've been a customer of Walgreen's Pharmacy in Los Altos since they opened, and I have found John to be a most helpful and cordial pharmacist. The staff are nice and I have never had a problem at the pharmacy with prescriptions, or any of the Pharmacists - they've all been helpful over the years. But it IS a busy pharmacy. Try to figure out the optimum time to show up! On the other hand, it's a drug store full of junk which does not, in my opinion, belong in there (there's all manner of stupid items which belong in a dollar store or a inexpensive toy store; Los Altos is NOT the demographic for a lot of this crap. ALSO !! I can NEVER, EVER, find the "name brand" items which I like. I refuse to buy the Walgreens brands, no matter how much cheaper. Other items I like have just totally disappeared. I complained once to the 'manager on duty' who said, they have to stock "what corporate tells them" and I find this is true for CVS also. So! like others, I order what I need in the name brand that I WANT, on line - either via Amazon or Drugstore.com, or others. Walgreen's loss, not mine. read more

Once again, Walgreens has underperformed. I got a text telling me my prescription was ready, went to Walgreens about 1:00pm, and the pharmacy was totally shut down for "lunch". They claimed that there was a phone message informing customers of their hours, but I did not get one. There is always a wait at this pharmacy, but closing down in the middle of the day is ridiculous. This pharmacy purports to provide an essential medical service. What happens when an elderly person, perhaps with ambulatory problems, arrives only to be told they have to wait or return an hour later? Additionally, I've gone to pick up prescriptions several times when they were supposed to have been ready, but I was asked to wait 15 or 20 minutes. And, frequently they cannot find the prescription and have misfiled it. I have experienced rudeness from John, the pharmacist, as well, on other occasions.
